[GCW] Super Cade - 6/27/04

Snabbit888Posted on 08/24/04 at 09:45:21

The long wait is over! After weeks and weeks of build, we are here live in New York City, the Big Apple, the City That Never Sleeps for what should prove to be one of the biggest pay-per-view events of the year, Super Cade! Nine big matches! Five titles on the line! A night that you will be proud to say you were a part of. And we wasted absolutely no time getting right to the action, as after the impressive pyro display went off, it was Cruiserweight Title time!

Match #1
Cruiserweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. Teddy Hart
We started off this spectacular with Rey Mysterio Jr. defending his Cruiserweight Title against third-generation superstar Teddy Hart. Hart earned this shot by winning Cruiserweight Chaos last month at Mayhem, beating seven of the best cruiserweights in the world. The match started with Hart coming out fast, trying to catch Mysterio off guard as he came in the ring, but Mysterio saw it coming and sent Hart flying over the top to the floor. Mysterio then jumped on Hart with a corkscrew plancha before getting back into the ring to a huge pop.

At this point we went to the back where we saw The Hurricane watching the match on a monitor. We learned that The Hurricane will face the winner of this match tomorrow night on Monday Night Explosion for the Cruiserweight Title. Back in the ring, Mysterio and Hart proceeded to bring the house down. Super Cade needed to start out with a hot match, and this was definitely the way to do it. This match featured some of the best high-flying in the world, with both champion and challenger putting their bodies on the line all for the Cruiserweight Title. Mysterio got Hart in position for the 6-1-9, but when Mysterio tried, Hart got out of the way and caught Mysterio with an inverted DDT. Hart cockily strutted around, even slapping Mysterio in the head. Hart went up to the top, calling for the Open Hart Surgery, but Mysterio jumped up top and brought Hart to the mat with a top-rope huracanrana. A groggy Hart got to his feet, but was immediately brought back down with a drop toehold from the champion onto the second rope. Mysterio hit the ropes and nailed the 6-1-9. From there, the crowd was to its feet as Mysterio hit the West Coast Pop and made this title defense a successful one!

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Teddy Hart with the West Coast Pop in 0:10:12.
Rating: ****
(Rey Mysterio Jr. retained the GCW Cruiserweight Title.)

As Mysterio celebrated with the NYC fans, a shot was shown of The Hurricane clapping in the back. We now know it will be Rey Mysterio Jr. defending the Cruiserweight Title against The Hurricane tomorrow night on Explosion. Teddy Hart may not have won the gold tonight, but he certainly has nothing to be ashamed of as he gave it his all.

[In the backstage area, we get a closeup of the GCW World Heavyweight Title. The camera pans out and we can see the World Heavyweight champion Chris Benoit. The crowd pops at the sight of our champion. He has a bandage on his head, presumably from wounds he suffered as a result of going through a car window last week on Explosion. The camera pans out more and we see that with Benoit is his wife, Nancy. She is on crutches as a result of Kurt Angle breaking her ankle two weeks ago. With them is GCW interviewer Mario Riviera.]

MR: I'm standing here with GCW World Heavyweight champion "The Crippler" Chris Benoit, who in our main event tonight, will defend that title against Kurt Angle. Chris, the past couple of weeks haven't been too good to you. First of all, how are you feeling after last Monday?

CB: How am I feeling? HOW AM I FEELING!? I am feeling PISSED OFF! I had a concussion. I got 9 stitches in my head. But most importantly for Kurt Angle, I got PISSED OFF! You see Mario, Kurt Angle has made two huge mistakes. He attacked me like a coward, for starters. I've been brought up my whole life to carry myself like a man, and a man deals with things head on. He doesn't attack someone from behind in a parking lot and put them through a car window! And secondly, Kurt Angle attacked my wife, Nancy. That was the cardinal sin, Kurt. I can handle attacks on me. I may find them cowardly, but I can handle them. But if you lay a hand on my family, you might as well have just signed your death certificate! Take a look at her, Kurt!

[Benoit indicates Nancy and her crutches.]

CB: You broke my wife's ankle! You had a beef with me, so you broke my wife's ankle. I don't need the extra motivation, Kurt, to get pumped up for a big match. I am the best technical wrestler in the world today! But you had to make me angry, didn't you, Kurt? Well if that was your intention, congratulations, because I'm angry! So now, Kurt, it's not just about retaining the World Heavyweight Title. Oh no. This title means a lot to me. Being the World champion is something everyone in this business strives for but few ever achieve. It is an honor and a privilege to hold this title, to be the first World Heavyweight champion in Global Championship Wrestling. But nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is more important to me than my family, and you crossed that line. So I'm not only going to beat you, Kurt. I'm not only going to make you tap, but I am going to BREAK YOUR DAMN NECK!

[Benoit stares at the camera with a look of intensity that is enough to get the crowd to pop. After a bit, he and Nancy walk off.]

MR: As you can see, Chris Benoit is more than pumped up for tonight's main event. But is he too driven by revenge? Only time will tell. Joey, Brian, back to you at ringside!

Match #2
Hardcore Rules Match
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam
Both of these individuals know how to be hardcore, so we knew we were going to see some brutal stuff in this one as Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam went at it in a Hardcore Rules Match. Dreamer already holds two pinfall victories over RVD in the past month, but those were in regular matches. Dreamer came out first with a trash can full of goodies, and armed himself with his kendo stick as RVD came to the ring with a steel chair in hand. As RVD rolled in the ring, Dreamer immediately went after him with the kendo stick, but Mr. Pay-Per-View deflected the shots with the chair. Dreamer kept trying, but RVD continued to block until he managed to kick Dreamer in the midsection. RVD cocked back and blasted Dreamer in the skull with the chair, and the violence was on.

From there on, these two absolutely tried to mangle each other. They hit each other with about anything they could find: road signs, chairs, trash cans, cookie sheets, etc. Where these guys found all of these weapons is beyond me, but never the less, they were used. This match spilled all over the ringside area as Dreamer punched RVD up the ramp to the staging area. Dreamer set RVD up for the Dreamer DDT, but RVD caught the Innovator of Violence with a low blow. RVD then caught Dreamer with a big spin kick that floored him on the metal stage. RVD brought Dreamer to his feet, and then in a show of pure malice, threw Dreamer off the stage! The crowd started chanting "HOLY SHIT!" as Dreamer feel about 10 feet to the floor below. RVD wasn't done yet though as he got a sick look on his face. RVD set up a table and put Dreamer on it as he climbed back up onto the stage. RVD got a running start before jumping of and hitting Dreamer with the Five Star Frog Splash, breaking the table, and almost breaking his own ribs in the process! RVD crawled over and flung an arm over Dreamer's lifeless body and got the 3 count in this brutal, brutal match.

No-Countout-No-DQ-Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Rob Van Dam pinned Tommy Dreamer with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:07:09.
Rating: ***

Rob Van Dam got even with Tommy Dreamer and in a big way tonight. Dreamer had to be helped to the back by the medical staff as RVD gloated about his victory, holding his ribs the entire time. He put his body on the line, but RVD picked up a win because of it on the biggest stage of them all.

[Mario Riviera stands backstage with the team of Billy Kidman and Paul London.]

MR: In just a few moments, the Basham Brothers will defend the World Tag Team Titles against the World's Greatest Tag Team, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. But right now, I am standing by with another one of the top tag teams in Global Championship Wrestling, Billy Kidman and Paul London. I understand that you two have some words about this match.

BK: That's right, Mario. There is no denying that the Bashams and the World's Greatest Tag Team are two great teams. That's why they're wrestling for the World Tag Team Titles tonight. But I think we've shown that we can also be put on that level.

PL: A couple of short weeks ago, myself and Billy here defeated the World Tag Team champion Basham Brothers 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring in a non-title match. Now I'm not so sure, but I think that should qualify us for a title match, am I right, Billy?

BK: That's right, Paul. So what we're doing right now is issuing a challenge. Whoever wins tonight, whether it be the Bashams or Haas and Benjamin, we want the winners tomorrow night on Explosion.

PL: We know we have what it takes to be the champs; all we need is the opportunity. We're hoping that whoever wins tonight will step up to the plate and give us our shot.

MR: There you have it. Billy Kidman and Paul London are looking for a World Tag Team Title shot. Back to the ring with Joey and Brian!

Match #3
World Tag Team Title Match
If the World's Greatest Tag Team don't win the titles, Shelton Benjamin becomes Shaniqua's slave for 30 days
The Basham Brothers (c) (w/ Shaniqua) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
Shelton Benjamin had a lot on the line tonight. Not only did he and partner Charlie Haas have the opportunity to become two-time World Tag Team champions, but if they didn't take the titles, Benjamin was going to have to be Shaniqua's slave for 30 days, and the thought of that is not pleasant. Benjamin has been very confident the past several weeks, but early on in this match, he was making some unnecessary mistakes. The nerves and what was on the line were getting to him, and that led to him being on the receiving end of a lot of the Bashams offense in the early going. Doug Basham caught Benjamin's foot when the former All-American from Minnesota tried to boot him in the midsection, but Benjamin reversed out of it by hitting a back brain kick and making the quick tag to Charlie Haas.

After this, Benjamin settled down and this became a very even matchup, both teams using a variety of double-team moves and frequent tags. In the end, Haas was in the ring with Danny Basham. Haas had Danny down and set up for the Haas of Pain when Shaniqua jumped up on the ring apron holding one of the GCW World Tag Team Titles. Referee Antonio Santangelo cut Shaniqua off and went to get Shaniqua off the apron as she threw the title belt into the ring behind his back. At that point, Doug Basham jumped in the ring and picked up the title belt and went to clock Haas, but Shelton Benjamin dropped him with a superkick before he had the chance. Danny Basham had Haas set up at this point for the Brain Damage, but the ever opportunistic Benjamin grabbed the World Tag Team Title and nailed Danny in the head with it! The crowd popped loudly as Charlie Haas locked Danny Basham in the Haas of Pain. Danny Basham was unconscious by now and couldn't fight out of this painful submission hold as referee Santangelo rang the bell!

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) defeated The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) when C. Haas defeated Danny Basham when Danny Basham passed out in the Haas Of Pain in 0:10:08.
Rating: *** 1/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team won the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

NYC exploded as the referee presented Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin with the GCW World Tag Team Titles. Shaniqua was distraught knowing that she lost her opportunity with Shelton Benjamin as the World's Greatest Tag Team are now the tag team champions for a second time. And thankfully for Benjamin, he does not have to deal with the horrors that would have gone along with having to comply to Shaniqua's every whim. Congratulations are in order for the new World Tag Team champions. It will be interesting to see now if they accept the challenge of Billy Kidman and Paul London on just one day of rest. Knowing the type of competitors they are, I wouldn't be surprised if we see that match tomorrow night.

[Kurt Angle sits on a bench in his locker room. He has a white towel draped over his head, hiding his face. He has his elbows on his knees as he begins to speak.]

KA: It's in the air... I can smell it in the air. Tonight is a night of change. Tonight is the night that a man who is actually worthy of being the World Heavyweight champion ascends to his rightful place. Chris Benoit, I heard what you had to say earlier. I saw the passion, the determination in your eyes. But you know what I also saw, Chris? I saw a man on the brink of losing it. I saw a man who is on the verge of making mistakes. And that just goes to show that the three I's really do work. What's one of those I's, Chris? Intelligence? Exactly. I'm in your head, Chris. You know that you can't beat me. This fire that I see in you, it isn't confidence. It's fear. You're scared. You're ashamed of yourself for letting your wife get her ankle snapped! You're scared of what I might do to her if I knock you out and it's just me... and Nancy at ringside. You're scared that you're not all the way healed from your concussion. I've already got you beat, Benoit. The match tonight, is just a formality.

[Angle takes the towel off his head and stares at the camera.]

KA: You are looking at the next World Heavyweight champion, it's true! [Crowd boos loudly] You had your fun, Benoit. You fulfilled your dream. You became the heavyweight champion of the world. It's something to be very proud of. It must have been a great feeling, Chris. Getting over that hump, finally proving all of those critics wrong who said you couldn't win the big one. But fantasy camp is over, Chris. I'm a born winner. I've been a winner my entire life. You caught a lucky break. But now, Chris, your fun is over, and it's time for a REAL athlete to take his rightful place as the World Heavyweight champion! And Benoit, you say you're going to break my neck? Well, good luck, because that's going to be very hard to do when you have a BROKEN FREAKIN' ANKLE! It's true... it's DAMN true!

[Angle stares into the camera for a few seconds until we cut back to the ring.]

Match #4
Television Title Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles (c) vs. Goldust
Goldust came out in this one a house of fire, trying to be the man to dethrone the thus far dominant Television champion "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Styles might not be a very likable guy, but they don't call him phenomenal out of the blue - he can do some absolutely amazing things in the ring. Goldust appeared to have Styles' number tonight though, as the Golden One had the TV champion well scouted. Every time Styles would try one of his moves, Goldust had a counter for it. Goldust continued to wear Styles down, countering moves and methodically picking Styles apart.

The turning point in this match came after Goldust hit Styles with the Curtain Call, but he was too close to the ropes as Styles got his foot on the bottom rope in the nick of time. Goldust got a little frustrated for the first time in the contest, placing the Television champion in the corner in position for the Golden Globes Kick. Styles had great presence of mind though as he grabbed a hold of referee JD Sanders' shirt and pulled him in the way. Goldust came and picked Sanders up, moving him out of the way. During the time Goldust had his back turned, Styles got himself free. When Goldust turned his attentions back to Styles, Styles caught him flush in the head with a jumping enziguiri. Goldust was knocked loopy, which gave Styles the opening he needed to hit the Styles Clash. Three seconds later, Styles was still the Television champion.

AJ Styles pinned Goldust with the Styles Clash in 0:10:23.
Rating: *** 3/4
(AJ Styles retained the GCW Television Title.)

It took Styles being quite resourceful, but he continues his hot streak and somehow managed to escape Goldust with his Television Title still in tow. Could Styles hold on the Television Title be slipping? Due to it being defended each and every week, holding onto the TV Title for a lengthy amount of time because exceedingly difficult. Styles is still the champ now, but how long can he keep this up? Goldust certainly has nothing to be ashamed of after putting on a great performance here tonight. If a couple of breaks would have come his way, we might be looking at a new Television champion.

Match #5
Lance Storm vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
In the past, Lance Storm has beat both Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho of the Sensationals. He was looking to beat a third member tonight at Super Cade, but he wasn't going to have an easy go of it as he took on the always impressive Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley. Bradley had yet to face defeat in Global Championship Wrestling, but this was his toughest test to date. Lance Storm isn't particularly flashy or have the most outgoing personality, which leads to many of his opponents overlooking him. That is a huge mistake, as Storm is one of the most competent and smoothest competitors in the ring. Lance Storm reminds me a lot of a guy like Ricky Steamboat, who just knows how to get it done in the ring, without the need of the glitz and the glamor.

Lance Storm wrestled a near flawless match. What Storm is very good at doing is making his opponent wrestle his style. Bradley is by no means a bad technical wrestler, but he isn't on the level of Lance Storm. I'm not sure if Steve Bradley's ego got in the way, but Bradley tried to go hold for hold with the man from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and that was a huge mistake. Storm had a strategy and he put it into play perfectly. After successfully working over Bradley's left leg, Storm got out of Bradley's Smashmouth attempt, brought Bradley down with a Russian legsweep, and locked on the Maple Leaf. Bradley tried to fight it, but he was stuck right in the middle of the ring and rather than risk injury, wisely submitted.

Lance Storm made Steve Bradley submit to the Maple Leaf in 0:13:47.
Rating: ****

With this big victory on pay-per-view, Lance Storm has now beat three of the four members of the Sensationals. With victories like these, Lance Storm has shown that he is a man who is going to have to be contended with, and a man who deserves to be in contention for some gold here in Global Championship Wrestling. One also has to wonder how Kurt Angle and the rest of the Sensationals are going to take Steve Bradley losing cleanly here. Not a good start for the Sensationals, who still have three matches this evening.

Match #6
North American Title Match
Randy Orton (c) vs. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels
Many regard Randy Orton, the current North American champion, as the future of wrestling. At only 24 years of age, Orton is one of the most gifted and promising athletes to come through the wrestling world in a long time, showing that by already becoming the North American champion here in GCW. However, he had a huge mountain to climb tonight as he defended his title against one of the all-time greats in this business, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels. And not only was he going up against the Icon, the Showstopper, the Main Event, but Orton was facing a man who was quite upset with him. Michaels was motivated, and Orton was going to have to bring his A-game to leave NYC with the North American Title still in his possession.

Well, Orton had a lot of pressure, but he did indeed bring his A-game as he and Michaels brought the house down. This is the type of match you love to see. Two men, wrestling their heart out, trying to prove which one is the better man. I apologize for the cliche', but these two pulled out all the stops in this one. Shawn Michaels was doing things I haven't seen him do since before his back injury in 1998. Orton knew he was in for a fight, and he tried some things I didn't know he had in him, such as the impressive flying crossbody onto Michaels on the outside.

After a brutal and hard fought match, Randy Orton appeared to have the match won after he avoided the Sweet Chin Music and caught HBK with the R.K.O. as he turned around. Orton was exhausted though and couldn't capitalize right away to make the cover. After several moments, Orton crawled over to Michaels and threw an arm over Michaels' body as referee Petey Pluck counted the one... two... thr... Michaels kicked out! The crowd exploded as Shawn Michaels somehow managed to get his left shoulder up at the last possible moment. Randy Orton couldn't believe it as he pulled Michaels back up to his feet and went for another R.K.O. The Heartbreak Kid was able to counter though, shoving Orton into the ropes. Michaels went for another Sweet Chin Music, but Orton ducked, and grabbed Michaels' head again for yet another R.K.O. attempt. However, HBK turned his body and trapped Orton in a small package. Orton kicked wildly, but he was unable to break HBK's grasp, and in a classic match, we had a new North American champion!

Shawn Michaels pinned Randy Orton after a small package in 0:18:17.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Shawn Michaels won the GCW North American Title.)

The packed house in New York City was on its feet as an elated Shawn Michaels was given the North American Title. The Heartbreak Kid held the title above his head much to the crowd's approval, but the celebration was cut short as STEVE BRADLEY and CHRIS JERICHO darted into the ring, blasting Michaels from behind. Bradley, Jericho, and the recently dethroned Randy Orton all started to put the boots to the new champion until EDDIE GUERRERO ran out to a massive pop and started fighting off the Sensationals. Shawn Michaels got to his feet and started fighting them off as well, dumping Randy Orton over the top rope as Guerrero threw Bradley out of the ring as well. Michaels turned and tried to hit Chris Jericho with the Sweet Chin Music, but Y2J ducked and the Heartbreak Kid leveled Eddie Guerrero instead! The crowd ooh'ed as Jericho quickly got out of Dodge and Michaels checked on his fallen friend. Michaels helped Guerrero up to his feet and tried to apologize, but a groggy Latino Heat shoved Michaels back, causing the Heartbreak Kid to hit the mat. Guerrero jumped out of the ring as Michaels got back up and grabbed his North American Title before eventually heading to the back himself. Shawn Michaels is the new champ, but I don't think this is how he envisioned the first moments of his title reign panning out.

[Mario Riviera is standing by with Brock Lesnar.]

MR: Congratulations to new North American champion Shawn Michaels. I'm now standing by with...

BL: Shawn Michaels? Give me a break. The story isn't Shawn Michaels. The story is the monster that is Brock Lesnar! Super Cade is a huge night, a lot of big happenings, but what people will be talking about most tomorrow night is what I do to Booker T in that ring. Booker feels cheated, Booker is upset with me for injuring his brittle little body back in April. Well that's just too damn bad! Booker, I've done it once. What makes you think I'm not going to snap you in half again tonight? Are you really that stupid? Everyone in New York City, and all of you watching at home. I want you to watch this match very closely. I want you all to especially get a good look at Booker T, because tonight will be the last night that you will EVER see Booker T being able to walk under his own power! Booker T, HERE COMES THE PAIN!

[Lesnar shoves Mario Riviera out of the way before storming toward the ring. Riviera tries to compose himself as we cut to ringside for match introductions.]

Match #7
Booker T vs. Brock Lesnar
You've got to hand it to Booker T. Booker knew there was a good chance that he was going to be on the wrong side of a beating, but he came to Super Cade ready to fight the monster that is Brock Lesnar. Booker feels that Lesnar has wronged him, and he stood up for what he believed in in this one. As has been documented, Brock Lesnar has mowed through just about anyone who has been across the ring from him. Lesnar tried to do the same with Booker early, using his distinct size and power advantage to pound away at the man from Houston, but Booker showed a lot of guts by continuing to fight back. Booker brought the fight to Lesnar like no one has yet to date, not even Chris Benoit.

Booker had a sound strategy as he channeled his rage effectively. Booker worked over Lesnar's left leg, trying to do the same to Lesnar as Lesnar had done to him. It started with Booker wrapping Lesnar's leg around the ringpost before dragging him to the outside. Booker tossed Lesnar into the announce table (almost causing play-by-play man Joey O'Donnell to soil himself in the process) before pulling out the ringsteps. Booker separated the steps into two pieces, setting Lesnar's left leg on the bottom half. Booker picked up the other section of the steps and brought them down hard across Lesnar's knee, causing the former NCAA champion to let out a loud scream. The crowd cheered Booker on, seeing an intensity they hadn't seen before.

Brock Lesnar pinned Booker T with the F-5 in 0:11:40.
Rating: ****

You have to admire Booker T's guts. He took it to Brock Lesnar like no one else has, but Lesnar is a machine, plain and simple. A great match from these two, and a big win for the monster that is Brock Lesnar.

Match #8
Steel Cage Match
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
Two men who absolutely despise each other locked inside 15 feet of solid steel. What more can you ask for? The first cage match in the history of Global Championship Wrestling did not disappoint, that's for sure. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero and "Y2J" Chris Jericho have history with each other since day one here in GCW, and they had every intention of settling their differences here inside the steel cage. Nobody gets in, two men fighting to a finish.

Guerrero and Jericho wasted no time in beating each other, and they didn't let up the entire time. Both of these men connected a part of their body with the cold hard steel more times than I can even remember. One guy would throw the other into the steel, and then later, the other guy would make it his mission to return the favor even harder. What was very interesting about this match is that for the first half or so, neither Eddie Guerrero nor Chris Jericho made any serious attempts toward escaping the cage, choosing rather to beat on their opponent, and beat on their opponents they did. By the end of this one, both Guerrero and Jericho were bleeding profusely, Guerrero after Jericho threw him hard into the cage, and Y2J after Latino Heat nailed him with a pair of brass knuckles he smuggled into the ring.

Both men were exhausted when Jericho attempted to hit Guerrero with a flying forearm, but the man from El Paso ducked and the Canadian King of Bling-Bling nailed referee JD Sanders, knocking him clean into the cage and taking him out. Jericho turned around and was dropped to the mat with a brain buster from Guerrero. Guerrero climbed the turnbuckle as he crowd came to its feet, but instead of continuing over the cage, Guerrero stopped and hit Jericho with the Frog Splash! The NYC crowd was giving Eddie a standing ovation, but he was too tired to capitalize for awhile. Guerrero eventually got up and started to climb the cage, but Jericho recovered and caught Guerrero on the top. Jericho punched Guerrero a couple of times in the stomach before bringing Guerrero down with a superplex from the top of the cage! The crowd broke into a "HOLY SHIT!" chant as both wrestlers and the referee were all laid out in the ring.

Finally the King of the World got to his feet and stumbled to the door, opened it and jumped to the floor, thus winning the match. Or so he thought. JD Sanders was still unconscious in the ring and thus didn't see Jericho standing on the floor. Jericho was furious at this, so he grabbed a chair from ringside and climbed back into the ring. Jericho went to hit Latino Heat with the chair, but Guerrero had recovered by this point and dropkicked it back in Y2J's face! Guerrero could barely stand by this point, but he managed to begin climbing his way to the top of the cage. Guerrero threw a leg over the top when he saw Jericho laying in the ring. The crowd started buzzing realizing what was happening as Guerrero got fired up, standing on top of the cage. In one of the most spectacular things I may ever see, Guerrero jumped from the top and plastered Jericho with a Frog Splash from the top of the cage! The building was going crazy as both Guerrero and Jericho were wiped out. After several motionless moments, Guerrero inched over to Jericho and a groggy JD Sanders made a slow 3 count, giving Guerrero a brutal victory.

No-Countout-No-DQ-Cage Match:
Eddie Guerrero pinned Chris Jericho with the Frog Splash in 0:19:18.
Rating: **** 1/4

It was an absolutely brutal affair, but Eddie Guerrero has walked out of Super Cade, albeit not under his own power, with a victory over Chris Jericho. Hopefully after watching the sheer torture these two put themselves and each other through, this feud is over. But what a way to end it.

Match #9
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit (c) (w/ Nancy Benoit) vs. Kurt Angle
With that, we only had one more to go, and that was he big one. World Heavyweight Title on the line as "The Crippler" Chris Benoit defended his title against the number-one contender, Kurt Angle. A lot of emotion in this one, and the place was ready to see a war for the biggest prize in the game. Benoit surprisingly was able to keep his composure in the early minutes of this match. Angle was doing everything he could to throw off Benoit's focus: yelling at Benoit, making fun of him, getting him down and slapping him, but Benoit kept his cool. It wasn't until Angle caught Benoit with a overhead belly-to-belly suplex and went to the floor that things picked up. Angle saw Nancy Benoit on her crutches standing on the floor, so he started to approach her, threatening to break her other ankle. Chris Benoit got up and saw this, cutting Angle off with a suicide dive to the floor. From this point, Benoit went crazy on Angle, bouncing him off the ring apron, ringsteps, announce table, and just about anything else he could find out there. Benoit threw Angle back into the ring and started systematically picking the former Olympic gold medalist apart.

Benoit was about as intense as I have ever seen him, which is saying something, because Chris Benoit is intense all the time. Benoit wore Angle down, but it was obvious that Angle had gotten to Benoit, as he started making unforced mistakes. Benoit brought Angle down with a German suplex and went to the top for the swandive headbutt, but it was well too early in the contest, as Angle recovered and sent the World Heavyweight champion crashing to the mat with a huge throw. Angle had been wrestling a defensive match, allowing Benoit to almost punch himself out so to speak. Angle saw his opportunity and went right after it, and had Benoit exactly where he wanted him.

Angle showed that meanstreak that he has for the next several minutes, hitting Benoit with a variety of high impact suplexes and weakening up the champ's leg, setting him up for the Ankle Lock. Angle showed exactly why many feel he has the potential to be the biggest star this business has ever seen, working Benoit over with picture perfect precision. Everything Angle does simply looks crisp. Angle looked as if he was on the verge of becoming the new World Heavyweight champion, but he too made a big mistake. Angle, in his arrogant wisdom, decided to try to hit Benoit with a series of German suplexes, which is one of the Rabid Wolverine's signature moves. Angle managed to hit Benoit with two, but something in Benoit's reserve tank kicked in, and Benoit reversed it with a go-behind. Angle tried to fight out of it, but Benoit had a tight grip on and hit Angle with not one, not two, but FIVE consecutive German suplexes! It is well known that Angle has neck troubles, so five German suplexes couldn't have been too kind to him.

Benoit had Angle on the ropes now, and after almost 30 minutes of fighting back and forth, was looking to put Angle down and out once and for all. Benoit ascended to the top rope and just like his idol Dynamite Kid, Benoit soared through the air as flashbulbs flickered behind him, hitting Kurt Angle with a beautiful swandive headbutt. This took some out of Benoit too, but something didn't seem right as he stood up. Benoit tried to keep going, but he stumbled into the ropes holding his head. It was safe to assume that Benoit was experiencing some dizziness due to the concussion he suffered last Monday on Explosion thanks to Kurt Angle and a car window. Benoit finally got to Angle and started to bring him to his feet, but Angle countered with a low blow that he shielded head referee Jimmy Appleseed from seeing. Angle showed his explosiveness and his stamina by hitting an Angle Slam on Benoit at around the 35 minute mark. Angle went for the cover, but Benoit somehow managed to get his shoulder up at 2 9/10 to a thunderous ovation from New York City, who knew they were watching something special here.

Angle was frustrated by this point and let it show by taking down the straps of his wrestling attire and locking the Ankle Lock on Benoit. Benoit let out a scream as he tried to get to the ropes, but Angle pulled Benoit back to the center of the ring. Benoit held on for a few seconds as Angle twisted his ankle as far as he could. Benoit finally was able to roll onto his back and kick Angle off into the turnbuckle. Benoit hobbled to his feet and tried to charge at Angle with a clothesline, but Angle ducked an hit a second Angle Slam. Instead of going for the win though, a frustrated Angle went for the kill shot. Angle uncharacteristically climbed to the top. Angle jumped from the top with an absolutely breath-taking moonsault, but the only problem was, Benoit wasn't there when Angle connected hard with the mat. Instead, Benoit countered and had Angle locked in the Crippler Crossface! There wasn't a fan in the building in his seat as Benoit pulled back on the neck of Kurt Angle. Angle tried to counter by rolling over, but Benoit held on like a pitbull as his wife Nancy cheered him on at ringside. Angle held out and held out, hoping for an opening, but that opening never came as Angle tapped out as all of New York City roared their approval!

Chris Benoit made Kurt Angle submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:37:32.
Rating: ****
(Chris Benoit retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Chris Benoit had done it! Despite the setbacks the previous few weeks, despite the hell that Kurt Angle had put him and his family through, the Rabid Wolverine persevered and beat Angle cleanly in the middle of the ring. What a wonderful ending to a terrific evening! We have two new champions in the form of Shawn Michaels and the World's Greatest Tag Team, and Global Championship Wrestling established that we're not going anywhere for a long, long time! The telecast went off the air with Benoit holding up his World Heavyweight Title while celebrating with Nancy Benoit. What a night!

5/9, I got over 50% and that's all that matters.

Fantastic card too, the match write-ups do a great job of selling the matches and in most cases, I thought I was reading an epic encounter of ***** proportions, regardless of the actual rating. Nice work.

Thank you.  I like to write in that style, because hey, if the writeup doesn't show that the matches are important, why should the reader care?  That's why I always hate writeups for circuits where the writer will poke fun at his own wrestlers and make such blatant insults if it's a bad match,.  If the writer hates it, I will too.  Thanks for your comments.

Oh, you'd really hate my stuff then...  :P

I agree with 91 I really feel like I am reading an epic match when I read your writeups. You're cards read like watching an episode of RAW...which is a compliment I would hope.

As long as you are writting them, I'll be reading them.

Thank you.  That's the style I'm going for.  Iw ant each match to feel like it means something, even if it's a "throw away" match.  My goal is to make people care about who wins and loses, who did what to who, not just se who wins.  Thanks for your kind words.

Here's to Stevie DeMento and the GRS!

You know, I was thinking a while back, and forgot to mention, but I thought Nancy might turn on Benoit and help Angle win the gold. Mind you, I thought Lita would turn at Summerslam, so what do I know...

More than likely, Nancy isn't going to be a permanent fixture around GCW.
