[GCW] High Voltage (Pre-Super Cade Hype) - 6/27/04

Snabbit888Posted on 08/22/04 at 03:21:18

We are live here in the Big Apple! In just 60 short minutes, we will be broadcasting all around the world for what could prove to be the biggest show of the year, Super Cade! Nine big matches, five titles on the line, and a sold out arena gives us all the makings for tonight to be a classic event! Just before the pay-per-view goes on the air, we will give a preview of the nine matches at Super Cade, but first, we had a couple of matches right here on High Voltage, Super Cade Preview Edition!

Match #1
The Amazing Red vs. Eric Angle
A big mismatch of styles in our first match of the night as the high-flying Amazing Red locked up with the mat-based Eric Angle. Red dictated the pace of this match early, flying all over the ring and not letting Angle ever really get himself set. Red got a couple of near falls after some various headscissor takedowns, but Angle was able to escape each time. Red went for another rana, but Angle caught him and dropped him face first backward on to the top turnbuckle. From there, Angle went to work, wearing Red down and eventually hitting the Angle Slam. However, instead of putting Red away there, Eric showed that he is an Angle, which means he's cocky. Angle went to the top rope and nailed Red with a moonsault, and an impressive one at that, just so he could say he beat Red at his own game. Eric Angle gets the victory in this one.

Eric Angle pinned Red after a moonsault in 0:07:11.
Rating: ***

Eric Angle continues his impressive streak in GCW. Red put up a good fight, but tonight was not his night.

Match #2
"Ironman" Rob Conway/Nick Dinsmore/"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown/The Hurricane vs. Triple X/"The Big Shot" Hardcore Holly (w/ Daffney)
We had an 8-man tag team match to lead us into the pay-per-view as Rob Conway, Nick Dinsmore, Monty Brown, and The Hurricane took on Hardcore Holly, as well as the three members of Triple X, Low-Ki, Elix Skipper, and Christopher Daniels. This was a fun match, but due to the amount of wrestlers involved, not much of a flow was established in this one. Everyone got their regular spots in, and at the very least, the crowd was really into it. The biggest thing of note was that Low-Ki and Elix Skipper seemed very put off by Christopher Daniels' strange actions. Daniels was once again blessing his opponents and acting all-around strangely. All of his weird rituals couldn't keep his team from losing though, as Nick Dinsmore caught Hardcore Holly with a small package, which was enough to pick up the win for his team.

Rob Conway, Nick Dinsmore, Monty Brown and The Hurricane defeated Triple X (Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper and Low-Ki) and Hardcore Holly when N. Dinsmore pinned H. Holly after a small package in 0:14:28.
Rating: *** 1/2

With that, all of the matches for Super Cade were officially previewed.

Hardcore Match
"The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer vs. "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam
The past month has shown a great change in the personality of Rob Van Dam. Since not winning the North American Title at Mayhem, falling to Randy Orton, RVD has lost it. On the May 31st edition of Explosion, Tommy Dreamer got an upset victory over Rob Van Dam, pinning him with the Dreamer DDT. Dreamer offered a handshake, but RVD swatted his hand away. The next week, Van Dam apologized and challenged Dreamer to a rematch. We thought RVD had turned the other cheek, but after once again losing to Dreamer, RVD slapped Dreamer across the face! The next week, Dreamer took on Hardcore Holly in a Hardcore Match, when RVD came out and cost Dreamer the match by nailing him with a chair. After the match, RVD busted Dreamer wide open, leaving him bleeding in the middle of the ring. Dreamer wants revenge, and he wants it bad. He'll get his opportunity in this Hardcore Match.

Lance Storm vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
Steve Bradley made his debut at last month's pay-per-view, Mayhem, saying he was going to make an impact, which he did by brutally assaulting Lance Storm after his victory over Justin Credible. The next night, it was revealed that Bradley was brought to Global Championship Wrestling by Kurt Angle, who feuded with Bradley back when they were both breaking into the business. Angle knows actually what Bradley can do, and brought him in as the fourth member of the Sensationals. The Sensationals are trying to get rid of Storm, who has been a thorn in their side for weeks now, earning pinfall victories over both Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho. Will Bradley be the one to beat Storm, or will the Calgary native continue his winning ways over the Sensationals?

Television Title Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles (c) vs. Goldust
AJ Styles has a big mouth, no doubt about it. He's arrogant, he's cocky, he's a jerk. But he's been a fantastic Television champion. He has taken on all challengers and put them down one after another. Goldust, on the other hand, is quite bizarre. He's a very eccentric and colorful personality, but he is also a veteran of the ring who has shown he can get it done. Goldust has also taken Brock Lesnar to the limit several times, so he has shown that he's not intimidated by anybody. Styles has tried to intimidate the Golden One with sneak attacks, but there will be no sneak attacks at Super Cade as Goldust tries to become the Television champion.

Cruiserweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. Teddy Hart
Teddy Hart's greed has gotten the better of him. He had friends and he had the fan support. However, the third-generation superstar is fueled by his greed and has shown he will do anything to win the Cruiserweight Title. Teddy Hart won the instant classic 8-man Cruiserweight Chaos match at Mayhem to earn this title shot, but little did we know that Hart had jumped his supposed good friend The Hurricane backstage and took him out of the match. A couple of weeks later, Teddy Hart turned on his partners The Amazing Red and Rey Mysterio Jr., costing them a match against Triple X. Since then, Hart hasn't made many friends, once again attacking The Hurricane before revealing that he was the one who attacked him! Mysterio has since promised The Hurricane a Cruiserweight Title shot if he retains the title, but Hart might have something to say about that.

World Tag Team Title Match
If WGTT loses, Shelton Benjamin becomes Shaniqua's slave for 30 days
The Basham Brothers (c) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
Shaniqua likes Shelton Benjamin. A lot. Shaniqua has done everything she can to win the affection of Benjamin, in her own unique way. Giving him odd gifts like a ball gag and constantly bugging him, all the while leading her charges the Basham Brothers to the World Tag Team Titles, winning them in a triangle match last month from the World's Greatest Tag Team. Benjamin and Haas tried to get a rematch, but Shaniqua wouldn't grant them one without some sort of counter offer. Shelton Benjamin came up with the stipulations for this match. If he and Charlie Haas do not win the tag team titles tonight at Super Cade, Benjamin will be forced to be Shaniqua's slave for 30 full days (and more disturbingly, 30 full nights). This is a huge risk by the World's Greatest Tag Team, but could really pay off for them in a big way if they can become two-time Wold Tag Team champions.

North American Title Match
Randy Orton (c) vs. "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels
Since the start, Shawn Michaels has been given all kinds of problems by the Sensationals. It all came to a head at Mayhem when HBK and Kurt Angle were the final two left in the Fatal Fourway match to determine the number-one contender for the World Heavyweight Title. Randy Orton got involved, hooking Michaels' foot as he went for the Sweet Chin Music. This distraction allowed Angle to roll the Heartbreak Kid up and become the number-one contender. Michaels has blamed Orton for this loss, and rightfully so. Michaels still has a chance at gold at Super Cade, trying to take the North American Title off of Randy Orton. Will HBK get his retribution, or will the 24-year old prodigy beat the legend?

Steel Cage Match
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho have literally been fighting since Day One here in GCW. Things have gone from professional to personal very quickly. To this point, Guerrero and Jericho have traded victories, Jericho getting a win on March 29th with the Walls of Jericho and Guerrero getting the duke on April 26th with the Frog Splash. They have been involved in a variety of tag team matches against each other and numerous backstage and post-match brawls, but GCW President Niemiller wants to end this one once and for all, and what better way to do so than inside a 15-foot high steel cage? This one will not be pretty, but hopefully these two can solve their differences once and for all.

Booker T vs. Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar has absolutely destroyed everyone who has crossed his path. He is big, he is powerful, he is technically sound, and he's an all-around monster. Back on April 5th in his debut, Lesnar made a statement by not only defeating Booker T, but putting him out of action for several weeks by injuring his knee with an F-5 on the ringpost. This knocked Booker out of the Deadly Draw and thus he lost his chance to become the first World Heavyweight champion. Booker came back at Mayhem, attacking Lesnar during his match with Chris Benoit and essentially cost him the World Heavyweight Title. Since then, any time these two have been in proximity, they've been all over each other. Who will get the upperhand in this struggle? Will Booker T be able to derail the freight train that is Brock Lesnar, or will Lesnar put Booker on the shelf once again?

World Heavyweight Title Match
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit (c) vs. Kurt Angle
This one started out simple enough. Chris Benoit won the World Heavyweight Title by defeating 29 other superstars to win the Deadly Draw and become the inaugural champion. Kurt Angle became number-one contender by defeating Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Jericho in a Fatal Fourway at Mayhem last month. Simple enough, right? Not quite. Angle wanted to get into Benoit's head, throw him off his game, and he's done that. On the June 14th edition of Explosion, Angle shockingly assaulted the wife of our World Heavyweight champion, Nancy Benoit, severely damaging her ankle by locking her in the Ankle Lock. Benoit ran out to save, but he was jumped by the rest of the Sensationals in an obvious setup. The next week, Benoit attacked Kurt's brother, Eric Angle, opening him up with a chair and putting him in a Sharpshooter, demanding that Kurt fight him that night. Kurt agreed to save his brother, but GCW President Ryan Niemiller told Benoit he was too unstable to compete and was sent home. Chris Benoit went to leave, but he was jumped from behind by Kurt Angle in the parking lot, which culminated with Benoit being thrown through a car window! Benoit went to the hospital with some lacerations and a mild concussion, but he has been cleared to compete tonight and he is angry. Will Benoit be able to control his emotions tonight enough to not make foolish mistakes? Kurt Angle is in Benoit's head for sure, but he may have bit off more than he could chew by getting the Rabid Wolverine this mad.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's now time for Super Cade! This is your last chance to call your cable company and see this event for yourself. You won't want to miss it!

I already laid out my predictions in an earlier thread, but the card looks very intriguing. Of course, the big one is the title match. As it happens, my mate just did his big yearly card in his circuit and had a Benoit/Angle main. Benoit won that one, I'm suspecting Angle wins this off the face of the build up.

There's a slim chance I'll have this card done late tonight, but more than likely in the next couple days for sure.  I'm really looking forward to getting this card out there to see what people think.  People should give predictions now and stuff. :)

A quick check at my past predictions, shows I said Angle, Orton, TWGTT, Goldust, Rey, Jericho, Brock, Bradley and RVD to win. There ya go.
