Cerberos's SUMMERSLAM!!!

cerberosPosted on 08/15/04 at 18:35:32

This was a short quick match for the Raw Heat match.  La Resistance had managed to hold of the former ECW Team but it wasn't enough this time.  Tajiri kicked the hell out of both men and Rhyno hit Conway with the Gore for the win.

Tajiri and Rhyno defeated La Resistance (Rob Conway and Sylvan Grenier) when
Rhyno pinned Conway with the Gore in 0:04:57.
Rating: *
(Tajiri and Rhyno won the World Tag Team Titles.)

In the back we saw Eddie Gurerrero arrive when he is practically tackled.  He quickly went defensive but turned to see Eugene.  William Regal is trying to pull him off.

Regal:  Sorry Eddie.  You know the young lad is quite excited.  You know tonight he gets to take out that young Randy Orton.

Eddie:  Don't worry about essa.  Personally I will be watching as you and Eugene along with my hommie Chris Benoit finally put an end to Evolution.

Suddenly Evolution attacks Regal and Eugene.  Eddie drops his belt, spins Flair around and drops him.  He doesn't see Orton sneak up from behind and he gives Eddie the RKO.  We go to break with Eddie, Regal and Eugene on the ground.
The Smackdown Heat match was Booker T, Funaki and Johnny Stamboli taking on the Japanese team of Akio, Sakoda and Kenzo Suzuki.  This was a short match that surprisingly the star was Johnny Stamboli.  Stamboli was bandaged from the shot he took on Velocity.  Booker quickly brawled with Kenzo to the back.  I the ring Akio accidentally hit Sakoda with a spin kick sending him to the floor.  In the ring Stamboli hit his Fuhgetaboutit slam for the win.

[Heat Match]:
Booker T, Funaki and Johnny Stamboli defeated Akio, Sakoda and Kenzo Suzuki when Stamboli pinned Akio with the Fuhgetaboutit in 0:04:10.
Rating: *** 1/2

In the back we see Kurt Angle watching the footage of Eddie Guerrero getting attacked by Evolution.

Kurt:  Perfect.  Hell I won't even need my little insurance policy tonight.  Tonight will be perfect.  I might not be General Manager anymore but they can't stop me from winning the WWE title.

Kurt walks out of the locker room and runs into Chris Jericho.

Jericho:  Watch it Junior!

Kurt looks around as Jericho walks away.

Kurt:  Well Evolution did me a favor.

Kurt clips Jericho from behind and locks in his Ankle Lock.  He holds it for about 30 seconds before letting go and leaving.

We then get a recap of the history between Evolution/Chris Benoit/Edge/Eugene/William Regal.  We also get one involving Kurt Angle and Eddie Guerrero.  Heat then goes off the air.

================================================================================

Summerslam comes on the air and we are treated to another great rendition of the National Anthem from Lillian Garcia.  We then are given a video of the history of Evolution, Chris Jericho and William Regal.  We then go to our number one contenders battle royal for a shot later in the evening at the World Title.

What a way to start a PPV with more intensity then some old WCW PPV's had the entire show.  Jericho was hobbling from Kurt Angle's attack earlier.  Regal tried to help Jericho but Triple H clipped him and made the cover.  This left Regal to be double teamed by Evolution for quite a while.  Regal however wouldn't be bullied and actually locked Triple H in the Regal Stretch but it wasn't meant to be.  Finally Regal was forced tap out the Figure Four.  Triple H then poked Flair who fell on his back for a cheap victory in what was otherwise an awesome opener.

4-Man Battle Royal:
Triple H won a 4-man Battle Royal:
        x Triple H defeated Jericho in 0:05:59
        x R. Flair defeated W. Regal after the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:14:43
        x Triple H defeated R. Flair in 0:14:50
Rating: ****

In the back we see Eugene watching as Eddie Guerrero is bandaged up.

Eugene:  Eddie, are you mad at me?

Eddie:  No homes I ain't mad.  Listen now when I beat Kurt Angle it will be even bigger.  Heck tonight you need to worry about Randy Orton.  Listen Eugene, I want you to promise me something.  When you are out there have the jackass Randy Orton on his back I want you to go up to the top rope.

Eugene gets an excited look on his face.

Eddie:  And give him the best damn Frog Splash you can.

Eugene claps wildly as we go to the ring where all the cruiserweights but Rey Misterio are waiting.  We see clips of all the men winning the right to be in this match.  Rey then comes shooting of the stage and he runs to the ring for our next match.

"The Star" Paul London drew first blood eliminating Chavo Guerrero quickly with a modified swinging neckbreaker.  Next was the huge upset when Rey Misterio jumped from the top but his friend Billy Kidman caught him with his BK Bomb Spinebuster bomb for the pinfall.  Next London went for his version of the Shooting Star Press but Kidman pulled Matt Cappotelli out of the way.  Kidman then teamed with Matt, slingshotting him into London with a flying cross body for the win.  Kidman and Matt double teamed Nunzio but Nunzio caught a powerslam out of nowhere for the pinfall on Kidman.  The last pinfall came out of nowhere as Nunzio picked up Matt he quickly rolled him up into a small package for the win.

6-Man Battle Royal:
Matt Cappotelli won a 6-man Battle Royal:
x London defeated Chavo Jr. after a swinging facebuster in 0:02:38
x Kidman defeated Misterio after the BK Bomb in 0:05:51
x M. Cappotelli defeated London after a flying cross body press in               0:06:44
x Nunzio defeated Kidman after a powerslam in 0:09:33
x M. Cappotelli defeated Nunzio after a small package in 0:11:28
Rating: *** 1/4
(Matt Cappotelli won the WWE Cruiserweight Title.)

We go to a recap of the feud between Kane and Matt Hardy over Lita's baby.  We are then reminded that the blood spilt here would be used for a paternity test.

This was a brawl with very little wrestling.  The end came when Kane chokeslammed Matt in the back busting his head open and getting the win.
First Blood Match:
Kane defeated Matt Hardy in 0:06:17.
Rating: ** 1/2

As EMT's check on Matt Hardy suddenly Spike Dudley goes flying in the back ground.  We see the WWE Tag Team Title match has started as Bob Holly is beating the hell out of Spike.  We then see the Dudley's working over Billy Gunn while Rob Van Dam sort of stands off alone.  As the Dudley's pick up Gunn he takes the all down with flying crossbody for a near fall.  Finally Gunn and Holly singled out RVD in the ring while the Dudley's brawled on the floor.  Gunn and Holly hit RVD with their Power Bomb/Neckbreaker Combo for the pinfall.  Bubba and D-Von quickly hit Gunn with 3D but Hardcore wore the Dudley's out with chair shots.  Finally Gunn hit D-Von with his Fame-Ass-Er through a table for the win.

6-Man Tag Team Battle Royal:
Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn won a 3-team Battle Royal:
x B. Gunn defeated RVD (partner: Spike Dudley) after a neckbreaker in
          0:09:02
x B. Gunn defeated D-Von (partner: Bubba Ray Dudley) after the Fame-                 Ass-Er in 0:14:37

(Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn won the WWE Tag Team Titles.)

Holly and Gunn celebrate as we go to the back.  Eddie is coming out of the trainers office as Triple H walks by and they go nose to nose.

Eddie:  Tonight I can't wait for you to do something you do damn well.

Triple H:  What's that?

Eddie:  TAP OUT!  That is what you do whenever you are in the ring with my best friend Chris Benoit.

Triple H:  Well someone will be tapping out tonight and I think it is you to Kurt Angle.

Eddie:  Well look right here, I am the WWE Champion.  I don't have to beat Kurt Angle he has to beat me.  You have to beat the greatest wrestler of all time.  No matter what you do Hunter you won't beat him.  You can't beat him Hunter and you know it!

Eddie walks away with a smile on his face while Hunter stares holes through him.

We see footage of Batista knocking just about everyone out with his clothesline.  We also see Edge cheating to beat Randy Orton, Batista and several other stars.  We then go to the ring for the IC Title match between Edge and Batista.

Edge's new persona really started to show as he was overly aggressive in this match.  Ric Flair was down at ringside but was blindsided by Edge before the match started and had to be carried to the back.  During the match Edge used a lot of dirty tricks but the dirtiest was when he told the ref to check the time only to low blow Batista and get the win.

Edge pinned Batista after a low blow in 0:10:07.
Rating: **
(Edge retained the Intercontinental Title.)

After the match several of the fans actually booed him and he seemed to like it.

In the back we see Kurt Angle stretching for his match.  The announcers talk about how he was out for nearly 3 months and that this will be a major test as 2 out of 3 falls is a grueling challenge.  We then see the history of the John Cena/Charlie Haas/Luther Reigns battle.

Charlie Haas picked up the win to retain his US Title in another good match.  Early on Haas and Cena double teamed Luther keeping him down but Cena tried to roll up Haas but he kicked out.  That suddenly made it a real triple threat.  The first fall came when Haas ducked a clothesline and it took Cena's head off.  Luther made the cover and that was it for Cena.  Luther quickly dominated Haas and hit the Roll of the Dice when suddenly Rico's music hit.  Out comes Haas's former partner dressed as a Raptor's cheerleader including the skirt.  Luther was shocked.  Rico came out and mooned Luther only to find out that he wasn't wearing anything under the skirt.  Luther stumbles back right into a wheelbarrow suplex.  Haas locked in the Haas of Pain for the win.

3-Man Battle Royal:
Charlie Haas won a 3-man Battle Royal:
        x L. Reigns defeated J. Cena after a clothesline in 0:07:50
x C. Haas defeated L. Reigns after the Haas Of Pain in 0:10:27

(Charlie Haas retained the WWE US Title.)
[Rico interfered against Luther Reigns.]

After the match Rico jumped in the ring and embraced Charlie Haas.  Haas quickly shoved him away screaming about the skirt.  Rico on laughs and kissed Haas who shoves him again and rolls to the floor, grabs his belt and Miss Jackie and goes to the back with Rico right behind him.

In the back we see Paul Heyman with JBL.

Heyman:  Listen John tonight is your chance.  You lost your title in an unfair match.  You lost your title to an un-American punk.  But I got you another chance.  Don't fail in this chance John.  You are a best selling author, a man that hosts his own national radio show and a former WWE Champion.  Don't let me down.  Don't let yourself down.  But most importantly John don't let America down.

JBL gets up and storms out with Paul Heyman smiling and laughing.

We see a nice video package of JBL/The Undertaker/Paul Heyman.  We then go to the ring where the duo is facing off.

The new number one contender for Smackdown's WWE Title is The Undertaker.  JBL did everything he could do but Taker wouldn't stay down.  JBL hit his power bomb and his Clothesline from Hell but it wasn't enough.  Taker hit a Chokeslam but the Heyman jumped on the apron.  Taker gave him a boot sending him to the mat.  Taker then gave JBL his Tombstone for the win.

The Undertaker pinned John Bradshaw Layfield with the Tombstone in 0:07:58.

[Paul Heyman interfered against The Undertaker.]

Heyman:  Mark!  You just made a grave mistake.  I know your secret and soon the entire world will.  Soon everyone will what darkness lurks in your soul.

Heyman throws the mic and walks away while JBL looks like he is going to cry.  We then go to a nice video of the history between Evolution and Eugene.  We then go to the match between Orton and Eugene

Eugene once again showed that he belongs in this sport and was amazing.  He mimicked a lot of legends including the Rock, Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan.  Orton worked over Eugene's back and neck.  Eugene came back with a Rock Bottom and hit a Hogan Legdrop.  Eugene then started doing the Latino Heat dance and went to the top.  This brought Flair on the apron who crotched Eugene.  From the back out ran William Regal who attacked Ric Flair.  Orton hit the RKO during the attack for the win.

Randy Orton pinned Eugene Dinsmore with the R.K.O. in 0:10:38.

[Ric Flair interfered against Eugene Dinsmore.]

Regal entered the ring and hit Orton with his Regal Cutter neckbreaker.  Eugene then went to the top and hit a frog splash to a huge pop.  Regal and Eugene celebrated as we go to the history of Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle.  We see Eddie defeating Kurt at Wrestlemania.  We see Kurt named GM and him being "crippled" by The Big Show after Eddie defeated him.  We also see Kurt trying to screw Eddie during the cage match, Eddie revealing that Kurt lied about being hurt and Mr. McMahon announcing that it would be two out of three falls.

First out is Mr. McMahon himself.  Then out came Kurt and then Eddie.  This could go down in history as the greatest match at Summerslam ever.  The first fall came quickly as Kurt shoved official Charles Robinson, who he has history with, and got DQ'ed.  There was then a 30 second break which Kurt spent yelling at McMahon.  Eddie came over the top rope and hit a plancha but landed wrong on his ankle.  Kurt took advantage finally looking in the Ankle Lock for the submission win.  There was another 30 second rest period again spent yelling at McMahon.  The final fall became a bit of a cluster.  The Official went down when Eddie missed a missile dropkick and Charles went down.  Kurt then hit the Angle Slam for what seemed like the win.  McMahon hit the ring and counted two but then flipped Angle off.  From the back out came a man we hadn't seen for sometime, namely the Big Show!  McMahon turned to see Show walking out and Angle gave him the Angle Slam.  He then got ready to fight Show.  Show came in and grabbed Angle as Eddie got up.  Show dropped Angle and gave Eddie the Chokeslam.  Angle celebrated but turned right into a Chokeslam from Show.  Show let out a monstrous roar.  Angle landed with an arm over Eddie.  Robinson finally crawled over and counted the three count awarding the match and the title to Kurt.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Kurt Angle beat Eddie Guerrero 2 falls to 1:
x E. Guerrero beat K. Angle via disqualification in 0:02:51
x K. Angle beat E. Guerrero via the Ankle Lock in 0:11:27
x K. Angle beat E. Guerrero via pinfall in 0:17:57
Rating: *****
(Kurt Angle won the WWE World Title.)
[The Big Show interfered against Eddie Guerrero.]

The Big Show stepped on Mr. McMahon as he walked out.  The fans didn't know how to respond to the monster.  We then go to the back where Todd Grisham is with Chris Benoit.

Grisham:  Chris Benoit, in mere moments you will be facing your archenemy Triple H.  You can't seem to get rid of him.

Benoit:  Todd, tonight Triple H once again joins the You Tapped Out Club.  Tonight you and everyone will see once again that Chris Benoit is for real.  Triple H will pay for what he has done to everyone including Eugene.

We then see a groggy Eddie Guerrero being helped to the back.  The EMT's almost run into Triple H and Evolution.

Triple H:  Well isn't this a sorry sight.  So much for Latino Heat.

Triple H then kicks Eddie in the ankle causing him to fall.  Evolution laughs as they enter the arena.  Chris Benoit comes running up and checks on Eddie.  In the arena Triple H is doing his usual entrance.  Chris Benoit charges the ring.  Right behind him is Eugene and William Regal.

Another awesome main event from Triple H and Chris Benoit.  These two men seem to gel together.  Benoit worked over Triple H's are with a series of arm bars and takedowns.  Benoit went for the Diving Headbutt early but Triple H shoved the official into the ropes causing Benoit to fall.  Triple H took over working on Benoit's surgically repaired neck.   Triple H got a near fall with piledriver.  Triple H went for the Pedigree but Benoit fought out and hit a slingshot into the corner.  Triple H went shoulder first into the turnbuckles.  Benoit quickly locked in the Crippler Crossface.  Triple H fought but couldn't fight out and finally tapped out.

Chris Benoit made Triple H submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:15:32.

Summerslam goes off the air with Chris Benoit holding the title over his head.

Great show.  Smackdown's main event was a bit overbooked, but fun nonetheless.  I like the fact that you gave the main event slot to RAW - very realistic the way things have recently been going.  Interesting Raw matches as well - did you just make those up going into the show, or are you actually booking RAW as well?  Either way, great show.  Here's hoping the real summerslam is that good.

Just made them up.  I had booked about two weeks of Raw but found it was too much to do both shows.  It is hard enough to keep just Smackdown going creatively and keep it up to my standards (half ass good).  I realized after I did the SD main event it was a little overbooked but then I thought that is how WWE books quite often and I think it would make for a some interesting TV if it was like that.  Thanks for the kind words btw.

Critic of the DawnPosted on 08/15/04 at 19:34:17

Oh, I agree that WWE often uses finishes like that in their major matches, and it was definately realistic all things considered.  I just prefer cleaner matches personally.

It'd be pretty cool if we could get someone to do Raw as well, since you aren't doing it.

I liked Big Show's return, but it makes me wonder a bit - aren't you trying to stick with the wrestlers who are presently active in SmackDown?  If you are, Mordecai and Rikishi would be out, and starting at Summerslam Jon Heidenreich :P would be in.  Or are you expecting Show to return as a surprise at Summerslam?

Keep up the good work.

Basically I took the roster when I started...back in June/July and went from there.  I am not going to keep the roster up to date as far as releases or hires.  The only rule I am making basically is that they have to be a WWE star for me to bring them in.  So I could bring in Jon if I wanted to (not in the cards at the moment) but also I am not going to let guys go either.  I actually had a pretty major player on SD quit on me in the future (I am working on the Sept. 23rd. show right now) but just worked it into a story line.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Big Show show up at Summerslam.  I haven't heard that he is but it would be a surprise.
