cerberosPosted on 08/01/04 at 05:20:41

Velocity comes on the air with footage of Spike Dudley defeating Hardcore Holly on Smackdown and we then go to the ring where Billy Gunn is taking on Rob Van Dam.

Billy started off by grounding RVD with a shoulder block and a series of rights.  RVD came back with of a kick and then a monkey flip.  RVD went to the top and hit a flying sidekick that sent Gunn to the floor.  RVD went for a dive but Gunn nailed him with a chair shot.  Gunn set up a table but RVD hit him with a series of kicks to midsection and then a shot to the head.  RVD went to the apron and came off with a Frankensteiner attempt but Gunn caught him and powerbombed him through the table.  RVD slowly got up and Gunn hit his Fame-Ass-Er onto the chair for the win.

In the back we see The Basham Brothers being drug to the ring by their new manager Dawn Marie.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Akio and Sakoda come and followed by the Bashams and Dawn Marie.  As Dawn got on the apron the Akio and Sakoda open the ropes for her, this opening gave the Bashams a chance to jump them.  The former tag team champions seem to be back as they destroyed both men before hitting Sakoda with the Ball and Gag Bomb for the win.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated Akio and Sakoda when Doug Basham pinned Sakoda after the Ball And Gag Bomb in 0:01:23.
Rating: ** 1/2

Dawn entered and reattached the Basham's leashes and drug them toward the back, including stepping on Akio and Sakoda.

We then see the graphic footage of Eddie Guerrero hanging on Smackdown.  We find out that on Smackdown we will have an update.  We also find out that Scotty 2 Hotty will not be able to participate in the qualifying matches for the six pack challenge and that Jamie Noble will face a mystery opponent this week.  Scotty has re-injured his neck and will be out several weeks.  We then go to break.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

We come back to see Mark Jindrak in the ring to take on Rikishi.  Rikishi, who is returning from a recent ankle injury, came out dancing but with a different look on his face.  Jindrak actually was able to shove the massive, bigger then ever, Rikishi around.  Jindrak hit a picture perfect dropkick for a near fall.  Rikishi came back with a Superkick and a reverse splash in the corner.  Rikishi went for a Samoan Drop but Jindrak floated over.  Jindrak hit his Mark of Excellence as Kish turned around for the pinfall victory.

Mark Jindrak pinned Rikishi with the Mark Of Excellence in 0:08:48.
Rating: 1/2*

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Rene Dupree, in a neck brace after the last few weeks, took on Orlando Jordan.  It was a quick match as Rene hit his French Riviera quickly for the win.

Rene Dupree pinned Orlando Jordan with the French Riviera in 0:02:51.

We see footage of Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn attacking the Dudley's after their match.  We then see that this week it will be the Dudley's taking on Gunn and Holly for a shot at the titles at Summerslam.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

As Booker comes to the ring we are once again reminded that he is climbing the ladder once again here on Smackdown.  We see him defeating Funaki and Mark Jindrak.  He now locks up with Johnny Stamboli.

JTB tried to attack Booker as he entered but Booker was ready.  Booker has shown a new fire recently and JTB couldn't put it.  JTB did hit his Fuhgetaboutit but it wasn't enough.  JTB went for his spinning Legdrop but Booker moved.  He quickly hit a missile dropkick, a Book End and then finished it off with his Axe Kick.

Booker T pinned Johnny Stamboli with the Axe Kick in 0:08:12.
Rating: ***

We go off the air with Booker celebrating and the crowd actually cheering the five time WCW champion.

YAAAYYYYY!

But hey, surprisingly great opener, a better than I expected main too... both the same rating AND match time, curiously.

I didn't notice that  before.  That is wierd that they were the same time.
