Rey Mysterio pinned Jeff Hardy with the 619 in 0:06:43.
Rating: *** 1/2

Who can ignore the big match between Jerry Lynn, the greatest world champion in
the history of the DWF, and Don Muraco who has put EVERYONE that he has ever
met away, most times with ease? It played a part in the opener tonight as Rey
Mysterio took on Muracos manager Jeff Hardy. Rey was successful, and mouthed
to the camera afterwards that he was coming for Juventud Guerrera. As Jeff
regained his composure though, out came Jerry Lynn with a sick looking sneer
on his face. Jeff tried to run but Lynn caught him and obliterated his face
with a steel chair, before grabbing a mic and telling Muraco that he can avoid
a similar fate at Wrestlefest if Lynn decides to allow it. Knowing Lynn, there
is no telling as to whether he'll let Muraco off that, but the big Hawaiian
must be hoping he does. Jeff was led away by paramedics meanwhile and while we
didn't see his face, he was clutching it pretty tightly, the pool of blood on
the ring mat was an indication of the velocity behind Lynns swing.

Sean O'Haire pinned Doug Furnas with the Seanton Bomb in 0:07:28.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Sean O'Haire retained the Intercontinental Title.)

As was somewhat expected, it was announced today that both Devon Storm and John
Cena will be challenging for the Intercontinental Title at Wrestlefest against
what is now confirmed as Sean O'Haire after he won his last contracted title
defense today. O'Haire was in fine form, doing away with Doug Furnas, to the
chagrin of him and Phil LaFon, who was evidently looking for a place in the
Steve Corino school of being a nuisance around ringside. O'Haire overpowered
them both and got the win, but Furnas and LaFon quickly went on the attack
and were soon joined by their buddy John Cena who helped out. Devon Storm made
the save, but in the ensuing battle, Storm accidentally elbowed O'Haire in the
back of the head and the two got into a heated shoving match which officials
were quick to seperate (why they didn't seperate the Cena/Furnas/LaFon attack
is one of those strange wrestling quirks I guess...). No love lost, clearly,
when the gold is on the line.

To make matters worse, the little threesome appeared later to do an interview
in which Cena claimed he'd just thrown a brick through Devon Storms windshield
because he's incredibly evil and it's all part of his master plan. Furnas and
LaFon meanwhile reminded us of their beating Edge and Christian for the tag
team titles five years ago, vowing to repeat the same trick by scoring a win
in their clash at Wrestlefest. Certainly a lot of history in that one.

Kurt Angle pinned Ken Shamrock with the Olympic Slam in 0:11:33.
Rating: *** 3/4

Kurt Angle is certainly proud of his recent actions. Facing Ken Shamrock today,
he noted that Shamrock is often refered to as a "fighting Irishman". When
Shamrock responded to point out he wasn't actually Irish, Angle covered up his
ears, non caring, and told Shamrock he was a dirty, job stealing, Guinness
drinking, leprechaun murdering freak. One thing you certainly don't want to do
is rile up Ken Shamrock and Angle had a fight on his hands as the two
proceeded to give us a very nice wrestling match, both men particularly trying
to get on their patented ankle locks. In the end, it was Angles Olympic Slam
that garnered him a victory, and an impressive one at that. He probably
shouldn't have gotten that box of Lucky Charms out from under the ring and
thrown it at Shamrock afterwards, before sprinting off, but Angle is a jerk
like that, even if Shamrock is his former tag team partner of many years ago.

Chris Benoit made Lance Storm submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:15:23.
Rating: **** 3/4

As was feared, the Pride of Canada tournament ended in a threeway tie, as
Chris Benoit, Lance Storm and Chris Jericho all finish on six points. Jericho
before the match did an interview looking very nervous at the situation,
knowing in the upcoming Storm/Benoit match, Storm only needed a draw to take
the tournament. Jericho did have some confidence, stating that he had "a
feeling" that Benoit was on a winner here. And a terrific contest it was, one
of the best ever that we've had on live television. Both men exchanged holds,
counter holds and reversals, both men slapped on their finishers in an attempt
to make the other submit. When Jericho sauntered out however, he may as well
have been wearing a big neon sign reading "I'm about to interfere and help
Benoit". And that's exactly what happened, a classic match ended with a
cheapshot by Jericho, grabbing Storm by the head and dropping his neck across
the top rope, allowing Benoit to lock in the Crippler Crossface and Storm had
no choice but to tap.

No word yet on who will now win the tournament, but one suspects there will be
some sort of announcement next week.

The Miracle Violence Connection defeated Hayabusa & Tajiri when T. Gordy made
Tajiri submit to the Asiatic Spike in 0:04:09.
Rating: ***

Quick filler, I wanted to put the MVC over, so no storyline here. Oh, but they're all in the battle royal at Wrestlefest, does that count? Gordy wins it, you know the drill.

Kid Kash pinned Mando Guerrero with the Money Maker in 0:08:31.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Kid Kash retained the Cruiserweight Title.)

Cruiserweight title on the line, Kid Kash defends against Low Ki. The two are
good friends off screen and travel together a lot on the road, but there will
be no friendship come Wrestlefest. Like O'Haire, Kash had one more contracted
title defense before the PPV, won over the impressive Mando Guerrero, who tried
stealing everything that wasn't nailed down - the ring bell, Kash' boots,
Finkels chair, even a fan on the announce table was pinched in order for him to
try and find a way to use it in his match. It wasn't to be though as Kash
stormed on to victory. Low Ki dominated the cruiserweight division last year,
Kash has done the same this year, there's really nothing between them.

Matt Hardy pinned Masato Tanaka with the Twist of Fate in 0:08:01.
Rating: *** 1/2

Matt Hardy got his first win since his return, defeating Masato Tanaka, but
more notably than that, Matt Hardy accused Jody Fleisch of being the man who
perpetrated to get Hardy out of the DWF in the first place back in December
when someone threw a cinder block onto Hardys head. Fleisch appeared after the
match to completely deny all wrong doing, saying that whilst he thinks Matt
is a crappy commissioner and whilst he was thinking about cutting his brake
cords back then, he did not and never would do anything as heinous as that,
though he did note that the beating Hardy is due at Wrestlefest may be
comparable. What a moron.

Chris Benoit was dissapointed in Tanaka, dissapointing again after winning the
tag match last week. Once again, a momentary loss of concentration allowing
Matt to hit the Twist of Fate had cost him a match. Benoit noted that while he
was out there winning, the rest of Triple Threat was out there sucking and he
wouldn't be standing for it much longer, demanding that they get their act
together at Wrestlefest.

Owen Hart pinned Robert Gibson after a sunset flip in 0:06:45.
Rating: *** 3/4

The tag team titles are on the line at Wrestlefest as the Rock'n'Roll Express
defend against the team they grabbed the belts from several months ago, Pretty
Perfect, ending their record setting fourteen month title reign. Today Owen
Hart took on Robert Gibson in singles action with both Curt Hennig and Ricky
Morton barred from ringside. In the end, Owen was able to reverse a backdrop
into a sunset flip to scrape a hard fought win, but one which he'll hope to
repeat in thirteen days time.

Billy Kidman pinned Dynamite Kid with the Shooting Star Press in 0:12:21.
Rating: **** 1/4

Billy Kidman was victorious in tonights main event over Dynamite Kid, and is
seemingly in the sort of form he needs to be for his clash with Raven at
Wrestlefest. As is typical though, it wasn't without some incident from people
who shouldn't have been there. Steve Corino and Clarence Mason accompanied
Kidman to the ring as usual and instantly Corino began making a pest of himself
at all times. At one point, with Dynamite safely down, Kidman started calling
for Raven already, shouting that they didn't have to wait for Wrestlefest, and
that the belt was coming home one way or another. Meanwhile Corino was getting
his licks on the outside on a thoroughly beaten down Dynamite Kid, until Bobby
Eaton ran out, chair in hand, and cleared Corino away.

Earlier in the show, Bobby Eaton had been interviewed and stated that he was
proud to once again wear the TV title, and he might have gone into last weeks
match badly beaten, but Wright had been beaten even worse and he took advantage
of the situation. But Eaton also noted that despite his ongoing injuries, there
was only one match he wanted - Steve Corino, Wrestlefest, and he would put up
the gold if it meant getting him to sign on the dotted line.

No doubt Corino will accept that one, but he wasn't accepting the situation
at hand presently as Eaton chased Corino back down the aisle with a steel
chair. The distraction for all allowed Raven to sneak through the crowd and
deliver a crushing Evenflow to his foe, knocking him clean out. Dynamite Kid
managed to gather his senses long enough to crawl back into the ring, but only
for a two count. Dynamite quickly began getting back into it, only for Kurt
Angle to now spring out of nowhere. One trip to Dynamite was all it took and
Kidman charged in, taking Dynamite out in the corner and landing the SSPress
to get a victory. Dubious it might have been, both men were victims of
interference, so Kidman can certainly say that it all ended up fair, though
whether he's right or not is a matter of debate.

Card rating: *** 1/2

Match observations:

King Kanyon looked most dissapointed at his guests this week on the Kings
Court. Usually he would revel in getting a group of rule breaking thugs onto
the show, but not when it's Paul Roma and the Mean Street Posse. Dressed in
what we can assume is their now customary black cloaks, with their dimmed
lights, organ theme music and attempted demonic appearance (Pete Gas going for
a clip-on nose ring to look really tough), they proceeded to waste five
minutes talking about how the Posse now worship Roma as their dark overlord
and God, and the new warlock of the DWF (give me strength) would have some
fiendish plans in store for Scott Putski at Wrestlefest. Hopefully Putski will
lay waste to these idiots in record time so we can be done with it.

I enjoyed the card and I like your roster.

I'll post my thoughts in detail later tonight or tomorrow!

Keep up the awesome stuff, dude!
91Posted on 07/26/04 at 20:57:17

Hey, thanks for the kind remarks, glad you enjoyed, and I'll look out for the aforementioned thoughts.
Dustin NealPosted on 07/27/04 at 21:24:26

I hope Steve Corino wins the TV Title. I think Corino and Eaton will be one hell of a match, but Eaton could keep the title out of Corino's hands. I don't know too much about your promotion, but you see to have a lot of old and new guys, which is cool. I just hope Corino takes the title. :)

A lot of nice matches but...

Matt Hardy pinned Masato Tanaka with the Twist of Fate in 0:08:01.
Rating: ***

I just can't Hardy beating Tanaka, maybe because I'm a huge Tanaka fan, or I'm just not using my "fantasy wrestling" side of my brain. I could see something growing between these two.

I enjoyed the Angle/Shamrock match; you made me laugh with the Angle comments toward Shamrock. I love Angle as an entertainer but Shamrock has always been a man whom I respect in and outside of wrestling.

Chris Benoit made Lance Storm submit to the Crippler Crossface in 0:15:23.
Rating: **** 3/4

Benoit is the MAN! What more do I need to say?

The Miracle Violence Connection defeated Hayabusa & Tajiri when T. Gordy made
Tajiri submit to the Asiatic Spike in 0:04:09.
Rating: ***

Tajiri can't lose?! :)

Who is in the Miracle Violence Connection?

Owen Hart pinned Robert Gibson after a sunset flip in 0:06:45.
Rating: *** 3/4

I miss Owen so much; I'm glad to see you have him winning!

Billy Kidman pinned Dynamite Kid with the Shooting Star Press in 0:12:21.
Rating: **** 1/4

What a strong match, I can't wait to see how Raven and Kidman do. I'm not sure who would win. I am pushing for Raven but I see Kidman winning.

I know my comments went from match to match, jumping around, but I have to say you have a strong roster; there were a lot of stellar matches. I assume my matches will get better the more I work with the roster and build feuds. I enjoyed reading your card/circuit, 91!
91Posted on 07/27/04 at 21:47:12

Thanks for the feedback. To cover a few of your points...

Tanaka, like his stable mate Malenko, are on losing streaks which is leading into a storyline in itself after Wrestlefest. Hardy needed a win going into the PPV meanwhile, so it was a natural step for me I guess.

The Miracle Violence Connection are Terry Gordy and Steve Williams. They did team up in WCW in the early 90's, but I never really heard them called the MVC, bar one column I read a while back. I liked the name, so I stuck it on them.

And yeah, as your circuit progresses, matches will generally get even better (which is something in itself as your matches have been pretty stellar so far) as wrestlers get over and feuds develop.
