Cerberos's 7/24/04 Velocity

cerberosPosted on 07/25/04 at 20:49:22

Velocity comes on the air with Akio, with Sakoda, heading to the ring.  We then see Billy Kidman and Paul London come out.  We are told by Bill DeMott that the next two matches are for spots in the six pack challenge at Summerslam.

Kidman and Akio starts off with a series of reversals.  Akio took over with a flying sidekick and then hit a series of kicks in the corner.  Akio hit a modified slam and went to the top.  He went for a twisting moonsault but Kidman moved.  Kidman quickly hit his BK Bomb and went to the top.  Sakoda tired to interfere but London stopped him and Kidman hit the SSP for the win.

Billy Kidman pinned Akio with the Shooting Star Press in 0:05:51.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

We come back and see London and Sakoda already fighting.  London goes for a springboard crossbody but Sakoda ducks.  Sakoda quickly locks in a front face lock for a DDT but London reverses into a Northern Lights for the quick pin.

Paul London pinned Sakoda after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:01:46.

We go to recap footage of Kurt Angle taking on Charles Robinson from Smackdown.  We see basically the entire match and we then go to break.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

We come back and see Mark Jindrak, along with Teddy Long, coming to the ring.  Booker T then comes out.  During the match Josh Mathews and Bill DeMott talk about the fact that Booker has to climb the ladder once again for failing Kurt Angle and not getting the US Title off John Cena.  Jindrak looked good early on dominating Booker with his surprising speed and strength.  However Booker countered a clothesline with the Book End out of nowhere for the win.

Booker T pinned Mark Jindrak after the Book End in 0:07:00.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

After the break we see Dawn Marie, clad in a new all leather outfit, lead the Basham Brothers a chair on the stage.  She shoves them down to where they are basically like dogs to either side of her chair.  We then see Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki come out.  Funaki has his hair spiked up like Scotty.  The Dudley's come out next and we have our main event.

Scotty and Funaki early on kept the Dudley's on their toes with a series of quick tags but soon Funaki was double teamed by the Dud's.  On the ramp Dawn just watched intently while the Bashams just sat there.  In the ring Scotty was dominated by the Dudley's being hit with the Dudley Device and their WASSUP headbutt.  Funaki ran in but was given 3D.  They then hit Scotty with 3D for the pinfall.  Official Nick Patrick threw up the dread "X" as Scotty held his neck.

The Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated Funaki and Scotty 2 Hotty when D-Von pinned Scotty 2 Hotty after the Dudley Death Drop in 0:07:23.

We go off the air with EMT's checking on Scotty and Funaki.

I've said it once, I've said it several times, but you have really nailed Velocity. A quick show, tons of recaps, but some decent meaningful matches chucked in to hype various talents perhaps looking to break into the main event stranglehold down the line. Hell, you've gotten qualifying matches for a match at Summerslam chucked in, so they have to mean something.

And missing some of a match due to commercials? Nice touch, I can bear that in text form. ;)

Oh yeah, what was the deal with the Bashams being out there? Perhaps scouting a couple of tag team rivals? I take it though the injury in the match was a work (there's no mention of it in the results, though I guess you could have edited it out).
cerberosPosted on 07/25/04 at 20:59:12

Yeah the Injury is a work.  I needed to work the mystery opponent in and didn't want to just say it like WWE would so I had Scotty get "injured".  Plus to be honest I don't think anyone would want Scotty as the Cruiserweight champion again would they ;)

Well that would depend on the options at any given time, plus Scotty is a pretty good worker... but no, I wouldn't want to see him as champ again, certainly not as things stand.

I don't watch Velocity, but I did enjoy your card; nice roster.  I don't have a whole lot to say, as I said above, I don't watch Velocity, however, I have started watching Raw again.  Dude, I've been on a three year wrestling hiatus.

/back in the saddle again.
