Classic Circuit...
americamamushi | Posted on 07/15/04 at 04:37:17 I just started another circuit using Rick's Old School Rules. It's a (hopefully) fairly accurate replica of the old NWA territory, The St. Louis Wrestling Club. I kinda fudged on the rules and started with 22 guys (eleven each) instead of 20. The guys may not have been there at the same times, I dunno, but they at least all worked in the territory at one point. I'm only using era wrestlers in my database and no one that debuted after 1985. Wrestlers also use era appropriate gimmicks as opposed to newer ones (An example most people will recognize: In the database Hulk Hogan is Sterling Golden) Anyway, though I'd share... The titles are... The Central States Heavyweight title & The Central States Tag Team titles (which are both accurate according to http://www.wrestling-titles.com) Roster Faces "The Golden Boy" Bob Backlund "The Yellow Rose of Texas" David Von Erich Dick the Bruiser Dory Funk Jr. "Big Thunder" Gene Kiniski "The Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich Kevin Von Erich "The Soulman" Rocky Johnson Sgt. Slaughter Ted DiBiase Terry Funk Heels "Superstar" Billy Graham "King Kong" Bruiser Brody Dick Murdoch "Dirty" Dick Slater "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd Gerald Brisco "Handsome" Harley Race Jack Brisco "The Mountain from Stone Mountain, Crusher" Jerry Backwell Ken Patera "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair Managers Bobby Heenan Tag Teams The Von Erich Brothers (Kevin & David) The Brisco Brothers (Jack & Gerald) The Funk Brothers (Terry & Dory Jr.) Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell Stables The Heenan Family (Ernie Ladd, Harley Race, Jerry Blackwell, Ken Patera, & Ric Flair) This is all when I started. Technically, the Heenan Family wasn't there when I started, but Heenan managed all those guys at the same time. It's just that he didn't put a name on it and make it as organized untill a couple weeks later. I'm currently in week 15 and have some nice feuds going. If this interests anyone at all let me know, I'll load them to my website so they don't clutter the board. So if anyone wants me to post it on my site let me know and I will. |
Rick Garrard | Posted on 07/15/04 at 05:06:33 That sounds like a really fun circuit. :) Nothing like taking a look back at the history of our great sport and using our heroes and legends to create some fun. I applaud the roster. Great stuff. And with the rules, you should have some rather fun feuds going on as well. I just pulled a ****1/4 match on week 7 in CW (not posted when I posted this) and a *** overall. One of the guys using the rules that I talk to on a regular basis, has 3 competing circuits all going at the same time. One WWE, one wCw, and one TNA. And overall, he's having a good time with the fact that m key keeps swapping up his rosters. :) And there's nothing wrong with bending the roster limitations in the rules, as long as it works for you. :) (I almost added 1 per side with CW in the forms of Carlos Colon and Abdullah the Butcher) |
Masked_Texan | Posted on 07/15/04 at 17:16:36 Not to be nitpicky, cause your circuit looks great, but just wanted to point out that the St. Louis Wrestling Club only recognized the Missouri State title. Bob Geigel was owner of Heart of America Sports Attractions in Kansas City, KS. He recognized the Central States titles. I could be wrong, but I don't believe SLWC ever had the Central States champ defend his title in St. Louis, though I know Central States wrestlers wrestled for Sam Muchnick. Anyways, I'll be looking forward to seeing how your circuit develops. Good luck! :) |
americamamushi | Posted on 07/15/04 at 19:18:38 I just compiled a roster from obsessedwithwrestling.com and then looked for title information here: http://www.wrestling-titles.com/us/mo/stlouis/ Originally I had a reason for choosing to use the central states titles over the Missouri heavyweight title, but for the life of me I can't remember. I'll change "Central States Heavyweight title" to Missouri Heavyweight title, but they don't list anyother tag titles in the region. I don't suppose you'd know the name of it if one existed would you? Cause other than what the internet tells me, I know nothing of the territory. |
Masked_Texan | Posted on 07/15/04 at 19:37:21 No they didn't have a tag title, but with your tag teams, I think it would be a cool idea to have a Missouri Tag Team Title. Sam didn't care much for tag teams, only one-on-one contests for the most part. After '82, when Sam retired, I believe Verne Gagne, Geigel and Larry Matysik bought into SLWC. Along with the NWA Title being defended, the AWA title would sometimes be defended there as well, since Verne had a hand in the promotion, and that's partly the reason why Jerry Blackwell won the MO title during that time. In '86, Crockett bought them out. So, there's a little history about the promotion, at least from the 80's standpoint. I definitely would like to see your card results and feuds posted on your website. |
SuperstarJimiC | Posted on 07/16/04 at 00:33:52 Great circuit, Americamamushi. If you need more history about the promotions, there's a site called Kayfabe Memories. They have the archives of all the territorial promotions dating back from the 50's to the 90's. I'll be back, i'll give you the website. |
SuperstarJimiC | Posted on 07/16/04 at 00:35:54 The website is www.kayfabememories.com |
