Match observations:

Raven defended his title today against one of the top stars of the DWF, Rhyno.
Rhyno is a man who seems to lose very scarcely and only then against the
absolute best. Luckily for Raven, as champion you are generally regarded as
just that and was able to put away Rhyno after a quick counter - Rhyno had
seemingly hit the Gore but Raven reversed the move in mid-air into the Evenflow
to score the win.

Right now however, Raven is looking towards a match that he won't be in - the
Royal Rumble match at Last Man Standing. We've already seen a few men throw
their names into the hat. Hunter Hearst-Helmsley during the extremely cheesy
vignette shown at Badd Blood effectively entered. That was shown again before
Helmsleys routine jobber squashing tonight, after which Helmsley promised to be
the first ever two time winner of the Rumble. Devon Storm too has already said
that he's in, also promising to keep an eye open for Brad Armstrong showing up
during the PPV.

We also saw some more men entering the match today - Psychoanalysis cut an
interview backstage in which they put themselves forward. That adds a whole new
perspective on the match as Sean O'Haire has been near unstoppable for well
over a year now, reflected by his being the IC champion and Brian Pillman of
course has a claim that he was the rightful winner of the 2005 match when he
was in essence the only man that was never thrown over the top and is a veteran
of Rumbles past on top of that.

We also know now that Billy Kidman and Steve Corino, two men who would
desperately like to get even with Raven, have been included in the Rumble. They
squared off against The Syndicate today and a hard fought match followed. Bobby
Eaton however came out at one stage, clearly out for revenge having been
injured at their hands, costing him the TV title in the long run (for the
record, Alex Wright makes his first defense next week). Eaton pulled himself
onto the apron to try and take a shot at Corino but instead had Lance Storm
whipped into him, knocking both men down and Kidman finished with the Shooting
Star Press. After the match, Bobby Eaton was interviewed by Michael Cole, whom
he asked whether Kidman and Corino were in the Rumble. When Cole confirmed they
were, Eaton threw his name into the proceedings as well. Eaton is clearly still
hurting after the injuries he's suffered and this could be a big mistake, but
time will tell on that front.

Don Muraco is in the Rumble too, as he confirmed his entering on the Kings
Court today, promising to go through the opposition on his way to the title
shot at Wrestlefest - Muraco will now be one of the big favourites for sure.

Of course, the big one as far as entering the Rumble goes is the clash between
Jerry Lynn and Chris Benoit. Benoit took on and defeated Lance Storm (whoops,
double duty for Lance, might want to make it up to him) today, before sending
out some scathing words aimed at Lynn, noting that he's beaten Jerry Lynn once
and he'll do it again before entering the Rumble, taking the win and going all
the way at Wrestlefest. Jerry Lynn isn't a man to keep quiet and came out to
respond. Lynn said that he was the man who controlled who did and didn't make
it and that he had decided that Benoit has no hope of winning the Royal Rumble.

Two more men who are likely to be in the Royal Rumble are Kurt Angle and the
Dynamite Kid. Angles overblown patriotism has gone to his head and seems to be
totally blindly loyal to the United States in favour of rationalism and
lucidness. He made a "Kurt Angle All American Challenge" today to "that dirty
no good Mexican" Essa Rios to prove his point. Angle beat him, fair enough, no
surprises there, but "that stinking limey toothless Brit" Dynamite Kid made an
appearance afterwards to warn Angle about his blatant bigotry, telling him not
to do it again, else the payback Dynamite will dish out will be doubly bad.

Los Guerreros. Not the Los Guerreros combination of Eddie and Chavo (Jr) we
know and love but the four brothers, Eddie, Chavo (Snr), Hector and Mando. Some
might say the liar, the cheater, the stealer and the guy in a chicken suit but
cynicism aside, the four of them have announced their unity to make the
Guerrero name a household name, one people associate with great wrestling and
one that will bring pride to their parents and grandparents, specifically
Gory (raised heads and beaming smiles followed). Chavo Snr also had some words
for his son who he said was a stain on the family, he'd been a horrible son
and he was, from this moment onwards, disowned and Chavo Snr challenged his
son to a match at Last Man Standing.

The three new Guerreros then went out in a little exhibition display, looking
good in the process, and scored the win when the particularly impressive Hector
got the fall.

One man who's not been in the spotlight much in recent weeks and months is Jody
Fleisch, but he's evidently been thinking about a second guy who hasn't been
around lately - Matt Hardy. Jody Fleisch approached Shane McMahon backstage
and demanded to know what he was planning to do with the commissioners slot and
when he was going to buck up his ideas... and sort out the commissioners slot,
saying that if Matt Hardy was going to feign injury and sit at home all day,
somebody else should take the spot, before Fleisch nominated himself. Shane
wasn't the least bit interested, but Fleisch promised to be back.

Low Ki will have to start keeping one eye open for Coach and Zbyszko in future
as it's clear they're out to meddle with him. Coach earlier noted in an
interview backstage that Larry Z was away homing his wrestling skills today
but he was here for another matter. That matter was Low Ki as Coach came out
to try and be a pest during Low Ki's match with Paul Roma. Luckily Low Ki won
anyway and Coach made a very quick exit, else face the wrath of Low Ki.

Finally Rey Mysterio showed Coach how it should have been done, doing a nice
job of distracting Juventud Guerrera at key moments during Juvis match with
La Parka, ending with La Parka getting the duke (cue dancing and air guitar).
When Juvi and Rey clash, that match may well decide the next contender to Kid
Kash' cruiserweight title...

Owen Hart RIPPosted on 06/30/04 at 16:12:00

No offense, but how old's the Angle export you have? He hasn't called it the Olympic Slam in years!

Not as old as you'd think, I just prefer the old name. Granted, I don't really play up on the whole olympic deal that much, but that's a moot point...
