Match observations:

What a night of hard fought action! Before We get started, lets
congragulate Jushin Liger on a well hard fought set of matches!
He earned this world hevyweight title!!!

In the first round we saw a couple of shockers! Hayabusa got
the win over the total package, Lex Luger. Luger tried to over
power Hayabusa, but Hayabusa was just to agile and was able
to get the win in the opening bout.

Japan -Vs- Mexico! Jushin Liger versus Mil Mascaras. This
was the first match of the 3 for Jushin Liger. Mil Mascaras
who is very well known and respected in Mexico was in a
very well fought bout with Jushin Liger. Both men showed a
tremendious respect for eachother by shaking hands both before
and after the bout. In the end, it was Liger getting the win.

In the match everyone knew about and had been wating for, Sting
and Vader squared off. These two men have had a big rivalry
in the works, and by the outcome it is still not over. Late
in the match Sting had the upperhand and was on the verge of a
scorpion death drop. Hayabusa came down and distracted the
ref. Sting then comes over to break it up. When Sting pulls the
ref from behind, Hayabusa through a fireball at Sting, blinding
him in the process. Vader was then able to hit the choke slam
and score the 1..2..3! Hayabusa and Vader both left to the back
together celebrating. Lex Luger comes out to help the injured
Sting along with a group of EMT's.

The Ultimate Warrior and The Undertaker wrestled in the last
match of the finals. The Warrior and The Undertaker both
seemed to have the upper hand and both seemed to just stare
at one another even after some devistating moves were hit.
Both men nailed their respective finisher. In the end, it was
The Ultimate Warrior hitting the big splash and scoring a
1..2..3! As the Warrior was celebrating on his way to the back
The Undertaker came from behind and hit the Warrior with a
devistating chair shot. The Undertaker could be said to be
a little sore after loosing tonight, but there was no need
for that. Security had to pull the Undertaker off of the
Warrior, but the damage had already been done!

In probbaly the best match in IWA's history, and one of the
best matches I have ever seen, Jushin Liger and Hayabusa
squared off. Both men battled their hearts out. If this
is any indication on how it is in Japan, we need more
young stars like these two. High flying move right after
the other. Liger was able to get the win in the match.

Vader took on The Ultimate Warrior in the second semi-final
match. Vader seemed to overpower the Ultimate Warrior who
was still feeling the affects of that viscious chair shot
from The Undertaker. Vader scored the win.

In the finals! Jushin Liger versus Vader!!! An incredible
match and one that Jack Tunney said he was proud to witness
as IWA commisioner, but had no problem taking care of the
incident that evolved during the match!
Jushin Liger and Vader wrestled their hearts out for well
over half an hour. You could easisly tell that both men
wanted to be called the first ever IWA World Heavyweight
Champion. About 35 minutes into the match Hayabusa came
to the ring. He seemed to be in the same routine, helping
Vader as he did in the opening contest. Lex Luger made his
prescense known, in what many people are saying as to be
him sticking up for his buddy Sting, but also not wanting
the same incident happen to Jushin Liger as what happened
to Sting. Luger comes out in a furry and nailes Hayabusa
with a hard hitting forearm shot to the head. Vader tried
to stick his nose into business where it didn't belong.
Vader reaches over the top rope to throw a shot at Vader,
Luger ducks and hits Vader. Vader gets rocked back, and
Liger from the top rope hits a victory roll. Liger
holds the move and get the win!

Jack Tunney comes to the ring to hand over the World
Title to Liger. He says he doesn't want to rain on his
parade but he does have a title defense already in the
works next month, and it will be against Mil Mascaras.

Tunney also announced another match that people had
no doubt would take place... Hayabusa and Vader -Vs-
Sting and Lex Luger.

IWA will also announce the arrival of two teams to
shape up the tag team division. We made the comment
about Japan, will it be wrestlers from Japan? Will
it be veterens? Find out next card as IWA presents:

Jushin Liger made Mil Mascaras submit to the STF in 0:16:17.
Rating: ** 3/4
Surprised it only got a **3/4 rating...

Jushin Liger pinned Hayabusa with the Running Lyger Bomb in 0:25:55.
Rating: *****
Not surprised this got a ***** rating :)

Title Defense Prediction: I think the re-match of Liger vs. Mascaras is going to be an early classic for IWA.  I think it'll get a higher rating than **3/4, but I think Liger is going to retain.

Liger was in the best three matches of the evenings, which speaks volumes as to who the best worker of, at least, the night was, so justice is done with him coming out on top.
Owen Hart RIPPosted on 06/21/04 at 22:30:49

I've never known Liger to have too many bad matches anyway! Even his matches in WCW were awesome (especially Liger vs. Pillman)

Liger vs. Owen or Liger vs. Bret would have been awesome. How about Liger vs. Angle!

Lyger and Owen did wrestle back in NJPW in the early 90's.  Not sure the frequency, but I know they have at elast once, as I have the match downloaded.  Lyger wins with a sick looking top-rope DDT.
