TSW Card #9 - Dayton, OH - 'Disaster in Dayton'

jesse_ewiakPosted on 05/02/04 at 09:20:46

Show opened with clips of last week's tournament, then 'Medal' blew through the speakers as the crowd exploded. Angle came out, thanked evreryone for his support and said he would be a fighting champion. When he said that, Shamrock came out and told Angle that he was still the number one contender. Angle agreed than said, 'you may be the most dangerous man in the world, but it's damn true you're still going to tap out!'

Iron Man #1 Contender Match:
Don Frye and Steve Armstrong beat Jimmy Rave and Joel Maximo 1 falls to 0:
x Armstrong beat Rave via the Flying Dropkick in 19:28
x time limit expired (Steve Armstrong and Rave) in 30:00
Rating: *** 1/2

Notes: Very good match as we open up the wrestling with a title shot on the line. Rave and Maximo started off early, but the combined experience of Armstrong and submission skill of Frye slowly weared down the young stars and after several near-falls and the fact Rave was in the ring for nearly eight minutes alone against Armstrong and Frye led to a huge Missile Dropkick on Rave and a 1-0 lead for the villians. The young high fliers tried to fight back, but Frye was not afraid to use several long, long submissions to not necessarily get tapouts, but to kill time. One "highlight" was a minute long wristlock. High octane action there. Near the end, Rave got a few near-falls on Armstrong, but Steve was able to survive and get the win. After the match, Frye simply smirked as Armstrong talked trash at the youngsters.

E. Watts pinned Cibernetico after a powerslam in 14:17.
Rating: 3/4*

Notes: Bit of an upset, as in a match that was mostly a brawl (and not that entertaining) went to the tag team competitor in Watts. Even though TSW is still young and thus, everyone has to wrestle singles, Ciber was seen to be someone on the rise. After Watts got the pin, Ciber immediatly went after referee Alison Green, that is until Watts came from behind and hit a huge Urange on him to a pop!

Backstage, we see The Wall show up after his couple week vacation thanks to Bubba Ray Dudley. As he comes in, he's immediatly stopped by a staff member who tells him that Bubba was told to stay home this week because of The Wall returning. The German terror was not happy about this and projected that via his choking of the staff member. Bad day for him.

Pentagon pinned The Godfather with the Asai Moonsault in 15:44.
Rating: *** 1/4

Notes: The New Nation-Lucha feud continues as El Godfather and Pentagon meet up yet again. Godfather dominates, but Pentagon is a veteran and knows his way around the ring and managed to get the advantage back. The match spilled to the outside in the middle portion as it sort of fell apart with mindless brawling. Which the rubes liked, especially Pentagon hitting a huge suicida on The Godfather knocking both men into the crowd. Back in the ring later, The Godfather tries to hit his big clothesline in the corner, Pentagon moves and the former witch doctor hits turnbuckle and while dazed, falls victim to the Asai Moonsault for the pin!

Of course, directly after the bell, Mark Henry came to the ring to join in the fun and went right after Pentagon. But, Psicosis and Henry's opponent ; Gabriel came to the ring with implements of destruction (a title belt and chair respectivally) and chased both men to the outside.

Gabriel and Mark Henry battled to a no-contest in 8:00.
Rating: ** 1/4

Notes: It wasn't entirely surprising that this match fell into chaos early. The tag champions hung around as did The Godfather who was still dazed. Gabriel surprisingly stayed with the massive Henry using the rope-a-dope tactic to weardown the former powerlifting champion. Late in the match, Gabriel hit several high impact moves and that's when The Godfather went into action, knocking out the ref from behind and jumping in the ring! This brought Psicosis and Pentagon in, and we had a pier sixer in Dayton! When the ref recovered, he called for the bell, throwing out the match!

The Usual Gang then broke up the warfare, with Board represantive saying there would be a rematch next week with everyone banned from ringside!

Psicosis pinned The Wall with the Flying Legdrop in 2:00.
Rating: * 3/4

Notes: The Wall lost this match when he turned his back on Psicosis to yell at a fan with a pro-Dudley sign. Psicosis hit a huge plancha, brought The Wall in the ring and hit the coup de grace moments later, hitting a low blow when the Teutonic Terror tried for a choke slam after hitting a few right hands. One Flying Legdrop later, Psicosis is your winner.

Perry Saturn pinned Johnny Smith with the DVD in 13:31.
Rating: *** 1/4

Notes: Rematch from a few weeks ago as Smith tries to prove himself in the singles division again. Just as good as the previous match, but a little more hardcore as tensions are high to see who will sink or swim in TSW. Smith looked like he would get the upset again after reversing a DVD attempt by Saturn into a DDT, but after a ref bump and a brawl on the outside, Perry is able to land the DVD for the big win! No after match activities, just Perry getting his hand raised.

P. Wight pinned Shark Boy with the choke slam in 7:08.
Rating: * 1/2

Notes: Half way between a comedy match and a pure squash. Shark Boy comes out with the Hulk Hands O' Doom again, but Wight simply tosses them into the crowd after SB tried a few big punches. From there, the masked one had a few brief spurts of offense, but in the end was simply overwhelmed by Wight's offense. In the end, all it took was one big headubutt and a choke slam later, Wight proves he's still a big threat to the TSW Heavyweight Title.

Kurt Angle defeated Ken Shamrock when Shamrock passed out in the Ankle Lock in 16:15.
Rating: *****
(Kurt Angle retained the TSW Heavyweight Title.)

Notes: Two weeks, two awesome matches as Angle & Shamrock continue to make magic against each other. Shamrock is close to eclipsing Wight as the #2 heel in the company while Angle is the Franchise and thus, the Ace of TSW. Shamrock dominates early, locking on a guiliotine choke within the first couple minutes on for nearly a minute and from there, Shamrock hits a Yazuka kick and few other choice submission holds to wear down the champ. But Angle comes back, mixing in a little amateur style wrestling with pure brawling to bring out the HATE~ between the two talented competitors. Angle is able to lock on the Ankle Lock, but Shamrock is able to get out of it and hit a huge Yazuka kick, then lock on his Ankle Lock! But, after thirty agonizing seconds Kurt gets to the ropes. After a short tete a tete in the ring, the match spills outside where Shamrock gets busted open, leaving Angle an opening to hit a big belly-to-belly on the floor! Angle tosses Shamrock in, locks the Ankle Lock in and head referee Frank Grey stops the match with Shamrock KOed!

After the match, Perry Saturn came out to rush the ring, only to get stopped by a baseball bat wielding Bubba Ray Dudley who comes out of the crowd to stop Saturn!

Frye and Armstrong make for an interesting #1 contender.  I like it.

Watts with the post match Uranage is so not nice from him.

Playing the week off for Bubba vs Wall is good idea.  I might have to steal that.  ;)

implements of destruction  LOL  that's a good one.  ban them all from ringside!  I think this Lucha vs New Nation thing could be huge for TSW.

The Wall is ultra-obsessed with the Dudley.

Wight vs sharky in a comedy match is always a good light hearted romp prior to the big main event!

ANOTHER ***** from Angle and Shamrock!  This guys are great for TSW's title scene!  Saturn stopped by Bubba Ray?!  I thought he wasn't here!  And does the Wall know?  This could get out of hand!

Angle and Bubba vs Shamrock & Saturn!  that's just speaks greatness.  Of course, Bubba's gotta watch his back for The Wall too.

I like that you are putting your cards in specific cities and then having some of the card titles reflect that.  :)
