TSW Card #2 - Meadville, PA - 'Tag Team Turmoil'

jesse_ewiakPosted on 04/11/04 at 05:12:09

Show opened up from black on the TSW Tri-State Tag Team Titles in a glass case, then shifted to a graphic for the tag tourney. Announcers hyped the random brackets...

RAVE/MAXIMO
FRYE/ARMSTRONG

PSICOSIS/PENTAGON
SHARK BOY/GABRIEL

HENRY/GODFATHER
SKIPPER/CIBERNETICO

SHAMROCK/SATURN
WATTS/SMITH

[Round 1]:
Don Frye and Steve Armstrong defeated Jimmy Rave and Joel Maximo when Frye made Joel Maximo submit to the Cross Armbar Submission in 20:08.
Rating: ** 1/4

Notes: Decent match, a bit of a styles clash between the high-flying antics of Rave & Maximo in contrast with the old-school/submission stylings of Armstrong & Frye. Frye makes Maximo tap out in a bit of an upset, as the announcers had pushed the young high fliers as a 'formidable team.'

[Round 1]:
Pentagon and Psicosis defeated Shark Boy and Gabriel when Pentagon pinned Shark with the Asai Moonsault in 9:18.
Rating: ** 3/4

Notes: Good sprint as the veteran luchadores managed to get the win over the comedy dude and the goth after a huge double-team by Pentagon & Psicosis. Suprisingly, after the match, Psicosis & Pentagon shook the loser's hands. Did they forget they were the heels?

[Round 1]:
Mark Henry and The Godfather defeated Cibernetico and Elix Skipper when M. Henry pinned Skipper after a choke lift in 26:35.
Rating: ** 1/2

Notes: Who decided it was a good idea to give Henry & The Godfather twenty-six minutes? Decent match anyway, as Elix and Ciber carried the two hosses to a watchable match, dominated by long heel beatdowns to get something resembling heat. Skipper got near-falls numerous times late in the match, but Henry managed to get a 'legal' chokehodl on and make Elix tap out. However, after the match, Skipper destroyed Henry with a chair!

[Round 1]:
Ken Shamrock and Perry Saturn defeated Erik Watts and Johnny Smith when Shamrock pinned J. Smith after a Frankensteiner in 17:11.
Rating: *** 1/4

Notes: Very good match when Smith was in with Shamrock & Saturn, and Watts didn't do too half bad either. Back and forth match, but Shamrock gets the win after avoiding Smith's dangerous Fisherman's Suplex.

Highlights played of last week, followed by the announcement that the TSW Heavyweight champion would be determined in six weeks in Cleveland. Slight heel pop for Cleveland because well, it's Cleveland.

[Semi-Finals]:
Pentagon and Psicosis defeated Don Frye and Steve Armstrong when Pentagon pinned Steve Armstrong with the Asai Moonsault in 10:37.
Rating: ** 1/2

Notes: Psic & Pentagon played face in this match as Armstrong & Frye teamed up with a nearly five-minute double-team old-school style beatdown on Psicosis near the end of the match, before he hit a lucky move, tagged in Pentagon and that was that.

[Semi-Finals]:
Ken Shamrock and Perry Saturn defeated The Godfather and Jimmy Rave when Saturn pinned Rave after a flying elbowdrop in 8:17.
Rating: ** 1/4
(Mark Henry no-showed.)

Notes: Henry was deemed unable to compete so Rave filled in for him. Bad move. After getting dominated early, Godfather tagged in Rave and basically left him to the wolves. The Pimp Daddy made a few saves, but basically gave up on Jimmy and allowed him to be pinned. As Saturn & Shamrock celebrated their quick victory, Rave confronted The Godfather before getting a kick in the gut and the PIMP DROP! Heel pop for that as Da' Father walked back to the locker room.

[Finals]: Match for the vacant TSW Tri-State Tag Titles:
Pentagon and Psicosis defeated Ken Shamrock and Perry Saturn when Pentagon pinned Shamrock with the Asai Moonsault in 5:20.
Rating: ***
(Pentagon and Psicosis won the TSW Tri-State Tag Titles.)

Notes: Insane heat for this one, as Psicosis & Pentagon have basically turned face throughout the night and got the quick, huge victory here as Pentagon shocked Shamrock with the Asai Moonsault ('Pentasault') out of nowhere to get the win!

Shamrock & Saturn immediatly got on the mic and asked for a re-match next week...and got it from a nodding Pentagon & Psicosis! Big pop for that.

Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Paul Wight and The Wall defeated Kurt Angle and Bubba Ray Dudley when Wight made Bubba submit to a chokehold in 0:12:04.
ating: * 3/4

Notes: Not the greatest match, but was a heated brawl all over ringside early and never really broke into a usual tag match. Was basically Wall v. Angle and Wight v. Bubba for the whole match. Finish was Angle breaking up an Wight choke slam pin, only for The Wall to knock him away, allowing Wight make Bubba submit to a choke! Brawl to end the show!

ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT WEEK!

Psicosis & Pentagon (c) v. Saturn & Shamrock in a rematch for the TSW Tri-State Tag Titles

As a result of this week, two huge matches...
Angle v. The Wall
Wight v. Bubba

Erik Watts & Johnny Smith will meet a mystery team!

Jimmy Rave will face The Godfather in a revenge match for Rave as a result of this week!

AND MORE!

Interesting roster you've got there.  Congrats on taking the risk of doing things randomly - I think they came out pretty well for you, all things considered.

Pentagon & Psicosis should make excellent tag team champs, and Saturn & Shamrock seem like one hell of a tough team to beat.  Your main event next week is going to be outright brutal.

Speaking of brutal, it's a good thing you've got Angle in your main event scene, as none of the other members (Bubba, Big Show, & The Late Wall) are exactly pillars of workrate.  Then again, when you've got Mark Henry and The Godfather in the midcard, none of those guys seem bad at all.  I'm actually interested in seeing how Henry & Godfather do, as they typically seem to do very well for me (at least in win percentage...) on the rare occasions that I use them.

Great work thus far, and keep on posting 'em.
