Music City Wrestling Recap, Months 1-3

ClintPosted on 03/28/04 at 21:33:41

Here's the basis of what's coming close to one year of Music City Wrestling, an ambitious promotion started by James Halford, with Troubleshooting Commissioner, former NWA World Tag Team Champion Don Kernodle. The original roster of 20 was as follows:

Franchise Wrestler: Adam Cameron
-(Created, stats are 89/93/88/90) This 264 pounder from Los Angeles was the first wrestler signed to MCW for one year. He's certainly got a future ahead of him, and his "Decline" finisher is an amazing spear takedown.

Others:
Bradshaw and Faarooq, The APA
Chavo Guerrero Jr., of the Guerrero Wrestling Family
Chris Divine
"The Future" Chris Sabin
Doug and Danny, The Basham Brothers
Dos Caras Jr.
Electro Shock
Dunn and Marcos, The Ring Crew Express
Frankie "The Future" Kazarian
Funaki
Gedo
The Head Hunters, #1 and #2
"The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm
"The Original X-T-C" Jimmy Rave
and Kid Romeo.

Month 1
MCW got off to a big start with our first show, held in front of an inquisitive crowd who were wondering what was in store.  Jimmy Rave and Chavo Guerrero Jr. showed that MCW would be an exciting promotion to watch, when they put on an amazing match that saw Rave coming out on top.  Instantly hailed as a MOTYC, that match set a high standard and overshadowed the main event that saw Adam Cameron pin Chris Sabin.

The next week brought the Tag Team Title Tournament, as eight teams fought for the twin gold;
The APA
The Ring Crew Express
Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Frankie Kazarian
Electro Shock and Gedo
The Basham Brothers
Kid Romeo and Jimmy Rave
Funaki and Dos Caras Jr.
and The Head Hunters.

At the end of the night, it was Bradshaw getting Funaki to submit to the Torture Rack, and the APA were awarded the honor of being the first ever MCW Tag Team Champions!  The main event saw another tag team match, where the team of Adam Cameron and Chris Divine defeated the team of Chris Sabin and James Storm, and the fans were introduced for the first time to The Decline!

In Week 3, Jimmy Rave and Frankie Kazarian put on another early MOTYC from MCW, and the first one-on-one meeting between Adam Cameron and James Storm took place.  It was Cameron's night in this match, and Storm saw the lights.  The Ring Crew Express issued an open challenge, and THE THRILLSEEKERS answered!  Storm and Jericho came close, but fell to the team of Dunn and Marcos.  But the main event was the real story, as Funaki and Dos Caras Jr. saw a rematch with the APA turn in their favor, and they won the MCW Tag Team Titles!

At the end of MCW's first month, we once again saw Divine and Cameron team up to take on James Storm and Chris Sabin.  This time was different, however, as the referee was Chavo Guerrero Jr.  A fast count saw Cameron pin Chris Sabin off of a powerslam, and James Storm and Chris Sabin both wanted to get their hands on Cameron and Chavo Jr.

Month 2
When it was announced that MCW would be holding their Heavyweight Title Tournament later that month, MCW stars stepped up for their shot at entry into the tournament.  Week 5 saw three qualify for the tournament, as Kid Romeo defeated Frankie Kazarian, Electro Shock beat Dos Caras Jr., and Jimmy Rave worked his MOTYC magic with Gedo, besting him to enter the tournament.  Chris Sabin tasted The Decline in the main event, and Adam Cameron remained undefeated.

The next week, Dunn of the Ring Crew Express defeated Danny Basham to enter the tournament, Marcos fell to Chavo Guerrero Jr, Cameron entered on a DQ win over James Storm, and Chris Divine pinned Chris Sabin to enter the tournament.  The Thrillseekers got a shot at the tag team champions, Funaki and Caras, and came out with a win!  And in the main event, Electro Shock pinned Kid Romeo in a brutal Barbed Wire Match!

With one spot left in the Tournament, a battle royal was scheduled to fill the last spot!  But not before The Thrillseekers and The APA could put on another amazing MCW match, and then get topped by another tag match between Cameron/Divine and the team of Jimmy Rave and Kid Romeo!  But in the main event battle royal, the chance was given to Funaki!  Both Doug Basham and Chris Sabin hit the concrete, courtesy of the former Tag Team Champion!

And the night had arrived.  MCW was ready to crown their first Heavyweight Champion!  Jimmy Rave pulled off the big upset, making Adam Cameron submit in the first round!  But the main event saw Chris Divine top Rave in MCW's first ***** match!  Divine called his title win "A victory for Canadians everywhere," and dedicated the win to all of Canada...he was soundly booed by the decidedly Southern crowd in Nashville that night.

Month 3
Dunn defeated Gedo, but suffered a back injury in the process that put him out for a month.  Besides that, Week 9 had little to offer besides the title rematch between Chris Divine and Jimmy Rave, which saw Divine come out on top again.

Week 10 had Chris Sabin and Frankie Kazarian put on yet another MCW MOTYC, Chris Divine attempting to teach Electro Shock english, and Dos Casas Jr. and Funaki regaining their Tag Team Titles from The Thrillseekers!

In Week 11, Chris Divine was upset by Chris Sabin, who became the second MCW Heavyweight Champion, on a mainly uneventful show.

And in Week 12, Adam Cameron and Electro Shock went, albeit unsuccessfully, for the MCW Tag Team Titles.  It was a great match, but Funaki and Dos Caras Jr. were up for the challenge, and walked away with the titles.

I like the style of the recap.  And Divine, a Canadian, trying to teach Electro Shock english is just funny.
