Best year for a circuit?

ggazooPosted on 03/08/03 at 03:30:40

When do you think is a good year to start a circuit?

1989 at the height of the Flair-Steambaot feud? 1993 during the birth of the WWF's "New Generation"? Maybe way back to 1980 to recreate Shea Stadium - Sammartino vs Zybysko and Andre vs Hogan.

Whats the best year to start a fed?

I'd say the best spot would be before the companies first PPV (83 for WCW/NWA and 85 for WWF).

Still, if you want to go for an actual starting point somewhere in the middle of all this, call me mad, but I'd pick a spot where everything went downhill.

For WCW, you've got Sting getting injured in 1990, them blowing Starcade 97 and the finger poke of doom in 98, all saw the product slip. For the WWF you'd have stuff like Nash winning the title in 95, them botching the invasion in 2001 and so on.

The reason for this is so you could effectively turn things around and make it all good - keeping the aspects of the product which still remained good during these periods whilst sifting out the crap and replacing it with good stuff. If you try recreating the Steamboat/Flair wars of 89 or the Austin era of 98 or whatever, it probably won't be as good (not to knock your booking prowess since I don't really know it), but you've got a chance to do some better stuff if you pick the crap eras.

If that makes any sense to anyone.

If it's a fantasy circuit, it doesn't matter when you start it.  For instance, just for the heck of it, I started my circuit in December of 1993.  I'm using some wrestlers from today and mixing them in with the veteran wrestlers too.

Mine is mid 1991, when Flair left WCW, but instead of him joining the WWF he started his own circuit, which I run. It's going pretty awesome 3 months in.

Just a thought, but it would seem logical to pick a starttime that goes along with some kinda story like the one guy did with Flair in 1991.  I'm just in the process of starting mine now and I decided to use 1 month after the final WCW Nitro.  Shane McMahon runs the new WCW head to head against his father, even stealing some of his own talent.
