TNM 3:16 Wrestling Universe: The Return???

LillaThrillaPosted on 08/29/07 at 05:54:19

Welcome back, TNMers!  I apologize in advance for the length of this post.

In May, I got into a discussion with a fellow MTGer who I found out was not just a wrestling fan but also the first live person I've met who is a fan of Scott Keith's writings.  A month later, Chris Benoit died which prompted me to watch the RAW tribute show, the first time I'd really watched a wrestling show since probably the Billy-Chuck "wedding" in 2002.  I then randomly happened to catch part of UFC on Spike TV that Friday.  That week I also looked for some wrestling stuff on YouTube and was happily surprised to find out there was alot on there.  Pretty soon I had a half dozen YouTube subscriptions for wrestling, had seen a bunch of famous matches I'd never seen before as well as some of my beloved WCW luchadore action and TPE putting people through tables, and watched a UFC PPV.  Next thing I knew I was back here on these boards just in time to find Unright say the Moves Database needed an overhaul.  Memories of the failed TEC project that preceeded TNM7 SE came to mind and I basicly grabbed the whole thing an took off running.

Welcome to now.

I've just finished implimenting a cleanup of my Moves Database based on all the stuff we went over.  Now I need to through all 700 or so fantasy wrestlers in my database tweaking their TNM exports based on my recently vastly expanded and improved knowledge of wrestling moves and increased understanding of the workings of TNM7SE as well as giving them entries in the Special Moves Wizard and Crowd Chant Editor.  Could take a bit of time. :P

Here's a quick rundown of what I'm going to run...

PWF: As I had talked about previously (i.e. a year or two ago), PWF will get a reboot.  I feel the Big Update wasn't a proper sendoff for the original though so I am probably going to run and writeup to some extent that last PPV.  I will start a new PWF at some undecieded point in the future and will synch up with the other circuits.

AOW: I'm going go try to keep running this as a Rick's Old School Rules circuit.

SOTBW: The lucha circuit will also keep going.  It's gone a little haphazardly so far, but overall I'm happy with it.

SMWA: I'm still planning to run this post Crash Carnival 1999, mostly just to go along side the rest of the universe.  It wont be in-depth.

There are a few other background circuits that I will probably dabble with and may or may not get posted that will be part of the same universe.  They include SFC (Super Fighting Cup - wrestlers based on characters from fighting games) and PXW (Philadelphia Extreme Wrestling - a ECWesk garbage/hardcore circuit).  The idea is to flesh out the universe a bit.  More details once I have them.

We'll see how long this runs.  Hopefully I can maintain my interest and not have to ditch TNM to focus on Magic: The Gathering (States is in October and there's a Grand Prix in Daytona in November...).  Dorka dorka.

I'm looking forward to this very much as I wasn't really on the boards when you ran it before. It'll be cool see some more stuff on the boards since overall it seems feds and fed interest as a whole have died down greatly in TNMland.  Good luck and I'll follow along.

Just for that, WCW-SF is coming back.

Well, probably not.

But welcome back.

Are we still MySpace friends?

Yup. Fun fact: out of 73ish people on my Friends list, I think you're 1 of only 2 people with kids. Not surprisingly, both of you have said kids in your profile pics. So ditch the kids and get back into TNM! ;)

Seriously though, any chance we'll see you running a circuit again even if its not WCW-SF?

The crowd starts a small "Ma-mu-shi!" chant. :P

Ya know, the kids aren't even the problem...its the crazy job(s).

I've been kicking around running a circuit (or Universe), since I've figured out how to cut and paste in XP.

Awesome. Looking forward to reading your work again. Glad to see someone's continuing SMWA... Probably my second all-time favorite fantasy fed after The People's Literary Critic's VCW.

Yeah, I enjoy VCW. I daresay he goes into too much depth given how long the shows turn out but its good stuff. It makes me think of if Paul Heyman inherited a forture the size of McMahon's while booking ECW. Or alternatively if HBO started a wrestling fed. :P

While I will be trying to continue SWMA and I plan to read some of the last cards as a refresher, I will admit upfront I very likely wont be giving it the amazing treatment Kirk did. Think of it as someone wanting to run a WCW circuit during the Monday Night Wars and decieding to also book WWF. I don't plan to just run some matches in TNM and post straight results but its not gonna be play-by-play. In fact, the only circuit to get play by play will probably be PWF. Just takes too much time.

I will be continuing basicly all the angles leftover after Crash Carnival '99 and using the just about the full roster including the Camp SMWA winners.  Except Deadline; that entire Baki Mono angle is the only SMWA angle I ever really disliked.

You didn't like the "DragonBallZ" storyline, huh? Bah, I never cared for it much either, really.. Has the move Database clean-up made the SMWA exports a little more human? They always seem to dominate real wrestlers.

I remember Camp SMWA.. Rorschach was the guy I submitted, I was hella surprised to see him win the Heavyweight division..

PLC actually did all the way through Deck the Halls 2001, which means he did a solid 2 years + of well-written fantasy wrestling booking. I think he's pretty much done with it now. I wonder if he'll release exports of his guys...

BTW - Is MiddleGA's TNM site still up on the web anywhere that you know of?

Interesting. I'll have to give them a close eye when I go over the exports as I review all the guys in my fantasy wrestler database and see if anything stands out.

DBZ? It always struck me as Blood Runs Cold with better effects. :P  Then again, I intentionally don't watch DBZ.  At least the fued didn't involve 30 second matches with 10 page writeups - that'd be truly DBZ inspired. ;)

Ah yes. Care to give some insight on the character? Is he inspired by the guy from "Watchmen"?

Impressive with that amount of writeups. I think pretty much that entire ex-NHB/Hardedge/whatevertheywerebeforethat crowd is burned out on TNM.

I wouldn't be surprised if PLC never releases VCW exports.

I think Loveless' site has been long gone.

They had some made-up moves that are pretty powerful (Spinning Piledrivers, Sonic Fists, etc..) and their movesets are composed of a higher ratio of powerful moves to regular moves in general.

Ah yes.  Care to give some insight on the character?  Is he inspired by the guy from "Watchmen"?
Well, inspired is a kind way of saying "directly ripped off". But I tailored his back story to the SMWA world a bit. He is/was a vigilante in New York when Haggar was mayor and possibly had some dirt on Haggar, Cody, Scorpion, etc.. I guess that caught Kirk's eye.

The character's stark black & white morality always seemed like it'd be an interesting wrestler character. He's fight on the side of the babyfaces, but if a babyface broke the rules or took a shortcut, he wouldn't hesitate to attack them. "No compromise, No surrender"

Impressive with that amount of writeups.  I think pretty much that entire ex-NHB/Hardedge/whatevertheywerebeforethat crowd is burned out on TNM.
Yeah, understandable. I've burned out and come back a couple of times.. You seem to be getting back into it again. Hell, Oliver seems pretty burned out on his own program, although I'd be awesome if he got the itch to make a TNM8 and include all our wishlist ideas.

I wouldn't be surprised if PLC never releases VCW exports.
Yeah, I'm expecting a "No."

I think Loveless' site has been long gone.
Bummer.
