Armstrong:  Mr. Crockett, that "terrific" one that you speak of woiuld have to be Mr. Taylor.  You see he's been hot on my heels ever since I beat him a few months ago down in Louisiana working for Mr. Watts.  He keeps saying a guy like me should never beat a guy like him.  But apparently I have and I will continue doing so if he keeps on following me around the country.

Gordon:  Sting thought he had it won, but the bell rang just as the referee was about to put his hand against the canvas to make the three count.  The Great Muta retains the Television Title this morning, but you can rest assured we have not heard the last from these two men.  Fans, don't forget the big card tonight in Greenville, South Carolina.  Let's go to David Crockett who is standing by with a very special guest.

David:  Thank you Gordon.  At this time, I'd like to introduce the current NWA World Heavyweight Champion, The Nature Boy Ric Flair.  Champ, tonight it's you and the Dragon in Greenville.

Flair:  Crockett, I hope you're out here telling everyone to come out and see The Dragon for his final match tonight in Greenville, because by the time the Leer jet lands in Asheville, the Dragon will be back in Hawaii in early retirement.  Dragon, if you think I'm kidding just ask around pal.  I've ended more careers around here than most people have had matches.

David:  So who are you goind to face this week if you put the Dragon out of action, since you have a series of matches coming up?

Flair:  David, Tuesday night...wooooooo... The Nature Boy in Charlotte woooo North Carolina.  It doesn't get any bigger than this.  It could be Horowitz, it could be Armstrong, it could even be Dusty Rhodes.  All I know is that it won't be Steamboat.  And you know why?

David:  No.  Why?

Flair:  Because I'm Ric Flair.  This is my belt.  And it signifies that I'm the best at what I do in the world.  The World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion.  And whether you like it or you don't like it... woooooo.... you've got to learn to love it... because it's the best thing.... wooooooo.... goin' today!   hahaha  (Flair walks off)

David:  There you have it fans.  The Champ takes on the Dragon tonight in Greenville.

Flair (offscreen yelling at Crockett):  HIS LAST MATCH WOOOOO

David:  Thanks for joining us.  We'll see you at the arenas until next week.

Well done, Rick.. That really captured the feel of watching an early TV wrestling show. Bunch of jobber matches, interviews with the winners, and a semi-decent main event for the TV title. Nice.

I was going to make a snarky comment about the lack of editing and/or mention of the "Your Son's Crazy" chant. But it dawned on me, if anything not in the script on those shows, they just wouldn't mention it. A crazy fan could jump in the ring and take a crap, and the announcers would just move onto the next bit.
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/09/06 at 04:32:32

Thanks, Unright. And you hit it on the head with the "your son's crazy" remarks. They used to chant all kinds of crazy stuff at Jim Cornette which is why he'd help do commentary during the Midnight's matches in the good ol' TV studio program.

Also, you should note that the show was scripted to run roughly 43 minutes in length, not including the commercial breaks.  This is the plan for all the 1 hour weekly TV shows at this time.  And I'll try to do the "big televised cards" keeping in mind real TV times as well.

For what it's worth, this will continue to be the format of this program. And I'll soon be posting an "arena report" for all the house show matches of the week as well, since we did run the upcoming schedule on the program. :) This is turning out to be a fun little circuit to run. I just need to grab the rest of the jobbers I need to fill out the roster.
rebelins313Posted on 01/09/06 at 06:39:14

Awesome stuff as always Rick.  It brought back a lot of old memories of the TBS days(some of my favorites).  I also forgot about the Candyman!  Keep it up.
Perverted_IconPosted on 01/09/06 at 07:54:06

80s NWA ruled.  This is fantastic, Rick.
I've noticed you've got your boy Brad Armstrong in a prominent position with the company again, being mentioned by the Nature Boy, Whoooooooo, himself.  You seem to be a big fan of his.  I can't wait to see if some of my midcard NWA favorites like Black Bart find their way into your NWA.  More Black Bart, more gooder.   ;D
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/10/06 at 01:17:25

when we make a swing through Texas, you can be assured that you will indeed see both Black Bart and Wild Bill Irwin on the card.

And you have to have Armstrong if you ever intend on bringing in Abdullah the Butcher.  Otherwise you can't mention the curse of the Armstrongs.
Perverted_IconPosted on 01/10/06 at 14:34:12

I'm waiting for what I'm sure is your dream match:
Candyman Brad Armstrong vs Badstreet   ;D

actually, it's Candyman vs Badstreet/Fantasia vs Arachniman with Rocky King the referee. ;)
