[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 6/12/06

Snabbit888Posted on 05/30/08 at 01:02:01

For the first time ever, GCW was in Rochester, New York for Monday Night Explosion! One week ago, Mick Foley was announced as the brand new commissioner, and he has been making his presence felt right away, and that would keep going tonight! On tonight's show, Edge & Christian take on the newest team in GCW, Cryme Tyme! Also, the sixth and final man in the Money in the Bank match will be determined when Frankie Kazarian and Paul Burchill go one-on-one! All of this, and a main event you will have to see to believe!

MICK FOLEY SETS UP THE MAIN EVENT
As he show came on the air, Commissioner Mick Foley was already standing in the ring with a microphone. Foley said that last week, he did what he could to save the friendship of Brock Lesnar & Kurt Angle, but when it comes to the World Heavyweight Title, all friendships go out the window. But Foley wasn't going to cry over spilt milk and came up with an idea. He said that Lesnar & Angle were to find tag team partners and the two teams would meet in our main event!

Match #1
Matt Hardy/Rob Van Dam/Abyss (w/ Maria) vs. Kid Kash/Lance Hoyt/Stevie Richards
Matt Hardy, Rob Van Dam, & Abyss might be a makeshift team, but they have been able to function as a team in their battles against Edge, Christian, & Rhyno. They were together in six man tag action here against Kid Kash, Lance Hoyt, & Stevie Richards. In essence this was a tune-up in preparation for the six man at Super Cade, and if this is any indication, it could mean good news for Hardy and his partners. They worked well together and were able to walk out of Rochester with the win.

Rob Van Dam, Abyss and Matt Hardy defeated Kid Kash, Lance Hoyt and Stevie Richards when M. Hardy pinned L. Hoyt with the Twist of Fate in 0:05:37.
Rating: *** ½

TOMMY DREAMER GIVES LANCE CADE A PEP TALK
Lance Cade was moments away from taking on the insanity that is Umaga, and he looked faux confident. Tommy Dreamer sensed Cade was a little tentative about the match and gave him a pep talk. He said that yeah, Umaga is undefeated and a beast, but that meant Cade had nothing to lose. "And if you can hand Umaga his first loss, it immediately establishes you as a threat." Cade was still nervous, but Dreamer insisted that he'd be fine.

Match #2
Lance Cade vs. Umaga (w/ Armando Alejandro Estrada)
Cade attacked Umaga before the bell in an effort to get the jump on him, but unfortunately for him, the flurry was short-lived as the Samoan Bulldozer cut him off in a hurry with a superkick. Just a few seconds later, the Samoan Spike was hit and Umaga had another fiercely dominant victory.

Umaga pinned Lance Cade with the Samoan Spike in 0:01:09.
Rating: * ¾

Thus far, Umaga has hardly been challenged and that trend continued here. Things got worse for Cade though as BOOKER T & ELIX SKIPPER ran in and put the boots to him, which prompted TOMMY DREAMER to come out for the save. As these four were brawling, they neglected to notice that Umaga was still in the ring, which was a mistake. At Armando Alejandro Estrada's urging, Umaga went nuts and laid out all four men. Umaga and Estrada are obviously not in the business of trying to make friends. They will not discriminate on who is put in the path of destruction. Will anyone be able to slow him down in the Money in the Bank match at Super Cade?

Match #3
Shark Boy vs. Randy Orton
Speaking of Money in the Bank, the man who came up with the concept, Randy Orton, was in action next against Shark Boy. Orton has refocused himself in the ring after having a recent cold stretch, and it is translating to victories in the ring. Orton continues that trend with a solid victory over the former Cruiserweight champion.

Randy Orton pinned Shark Boy after a flying forearm in 0:02:55.
Rating: ***

MNM ARE ANGRY WITH FOLEY, BUT THEY SHOULD LEARN TO KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT
Mick Foley was in his office doing some paperwork (which in reality was a rousing game of Beginner's Suduko) when the World Tag Team champions, MNM, entered the room. Melina immediately began screaming at him, telling him he had no right to make Johnny Nitro and Shannon Moore take on Brock Lesnar & Kurt Angle. Foley countered by saying they won the match and it helps solidify them as the great tag team that they are. Melina said it didn't matter and that he'd better not do anything like that again. Foley apologized to Melina and told her not to worry because they'd have a week to prepare for their next title defense as MNM would defend the titles against the winner of the Cryme Tyme/Edge & Christian match tonight. MNM was outraged, but of course, Foley's decision was FINAL.

Match #4
Money in the Bank Qualifier
Frankie Kazarian vs. Paul Burchill
The cap on the Money in the Bank match was put at 6 by Commissioner Foley, and he set up a match tonight to determine that sixth man by pitting Frankie Kazarian against Paul Burchill. Kazarian has been wrestling mostly in tag matches recently, but every wrestler's dream is to be champion of the world, and this was a great opportunity for him to get on the card at Super Cade. Burchill was thirsty for the same thing, especially since Monty Brown was already in the match, and Burchill likes nothing more than attempting to show the Alpha Male up these days. Burchill will get that chance as after a great back and forth match, he caught the Future with the C4 and punched his ticket to Super Cade.

[Money in the Bank Qualifier]:
Paul Burchill pinned Frankie Kazarian with the C4 in 0:08:45.
Rating: **** 1/4

Burchill joins Randy Orton, Monty Brown, Umaga, Chris Benoit, and AJ Styles, all six men having a huge opportunity to earn the right to have a World Heavyweight Title match whenever he should choose for one calendar year.

In between matches, we learned that for the main event World champion Brock Lesnar had selected "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown as his tag team partner, which makes perfect sense as the two shared a brief tag team title reign earlier in the year. Lesnar played his card first, so it will be interesting to see who Kurt Angle selects as his tag team partner.

Match #5
On Commentary: The World's Greatest Tag Team
Cryme Tyme vs. Edge & Christian (w/ Lita, Mickie James, Gail Kim, Rhyno)
With the added stipulation that the winners of this tag team match between Cryme Tyme and Edge & Christian would receive a tag title shot next week on Explosion, Charlie Haas insisted that he and Shelton Benjamin be on commentary as whomever were the tag team champions would be defending against the World's Greatest Tag Team at Super Cade. During this match, Paul Heyman informed us that Edge & Christian decided to name their group (which includes Edge's Brothel and Rhyno) "Must See TV" which I guess is a name you'd expect a group of egomaniacs to come up with. A new moniker wasn't going to help them here though as Cryme Tyme are a tough team, and since they just recently debuted, are largely unknown and thus difficult to prepare for. It also isn't helping the team that the Rated R Superstar is constantly on edge (pardon the pun), so when MATT HARDY's music hit over the PA, Edge was understandably distracted. As he looked around desperately for Hardy, he didn't see JTG blindside him with a flying forearm, the surprise of which is enough to get the pin.

Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard and JTG) defeated Must See TV (Christian and Edge) when JTG pinned Edge after a flying forearm in 0:06:08.
Rating: * ¾

Haas commented on how to be World Tag Team champions, you have to be opportunistic (it's interesting to note that Shelton Benjamin didn't offer much in terms of commentary), and opportunistic is exactly what Cryme Tyme is. To make this situation even worse for Edge, Hardy was nowhere to be found - the music was simply a decoy. Christian tried to voice his displeasure with the result of this match, but Edge wasn't hearing much of anything and rather searching for Matt Hardy. Hardy is certainly in Edge's head.

GREGORY HELMS NEEDS A FAVOR FROM MUST SEE TV
As Must See TV was coming through the curtain (Edge looking particularly frightened), they were stopped by X champion Gregory Helms. After Helms offered some tongue-in-cheek sympathy for their loss, Helms said he wanted to discuss some business with them. Christian was ready to blow him off, but when Helms produced a large wad of cash, Christian changed his tune. We cut to commercial with Helms demanding the cameraman get lost as he wanted to talk to MSTV in private.

Match #6
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Rhyno (w/ Gregory Helms)
It didn't take long before we found out what Helms' business dealing was, and that was for Rhyno to do whatever it took to make sure that Rey Mysterio Jr. didn't make it to his X Title shot at Super Cade. Mysterio and Rhyno used to be friends, but now that Rhyno is charged by the almighty dollar, all friendship is out the window. The way that Rhyno was trying to break Mysterio in half during this match made this fact abundantly clear. Mysterio did everything he could to slow the Manbeast down, but Rhyno was like a freight train that refused to slow down, rarely giving Mysterio time to breathe. Mysterio's speed kept him away for awhile, but when Rhyno caught him with the Gore, it was all over.

Rhyno pinned Rey Mysterio Jr. with the Gore in 0:09:40.
Rating: **** 1/4

Gregory Helms was ecstatic at ringside over Rhyno's win, but he wasn't finished with his purchase yet as he pulled a table out and propped it in the corner of the ring. Rhyno got a head of steam and hit a second Gore, this time driving Mysterio's right through the table! This is the same way that Rhyno put Kenny Dykstra on the shelf. As of press time, we are not sure on Mysterio's condition, but we hope to have an update next week.

CM PUNK MAKES ONE FINAL PLEA TO CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
CM Punk was with Daffney in a darkened corner of the arena, and he remained very stoic with his words. He made one final plea to Christopher Daniels, telling the Fallen Angel that despite what Daniels' head wants him to believe, Punk is a changed man. He reiterated that he has no desire to fight Daniels at Super Cade and was giving the Fallen Angel the opportunity to back out of the match. Punk said that if Daniels insists that the match goes on, he will pull out all the stops and make sure that Hell in a Cell will be just that for the Fallen Angel - Hell.

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion)/Monty Brown vs. Kurt Angle/Bobby Lashley
Brock Lesnar selecting Monty Brown as his partner was no surprise. But Kurt Angle shocked everyone when he came out with his partner, BOBBY LASHLEY. Angle and Lashley have been on opposite sides of the spectrum, but we learned that the two go way back. Now that Lashley has broken free of John Bradshaw Layfield, he's doing his own thing and is helping Angle out here tonight. Emotions ran high during this one as Lesnar & Angle both want to have the mental advantage going into the grueling Iron Man match in two weeks time. As far as teamwork goes, Angle & Lashley had little trouble adjusting to teaming together as was shown by some of the tandem offense they managed to string together. Not to be outdone, Lesnar & Brown brought a lot of that same fire that led them to a brief World Tag Team Title reign earlier this year.

What would make the difference in this match wasn't the competitors in it but some outside forces. Late in the match, Lesnar & Angle were the legal men in the ring. During some confusion in the ring that distracted referee Charles Robinson, JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD was out and pulled Lashley off the ring apron and walloped him with the Intercontinental Title! Lashley fell hard to the floor, but the last thing he expected was Monty Brown, Lashley's opponent in this one, to come around to the other side of the ring and level him with the Pounce, sending JBL sprawling to the floor, down and out! Brown stood over JBL and trash talked him for trying to ruin this match, but in doing so, he didn't see RANDY ORTON jump out of the crowd and drop the Alpha Male like a bad habit with the R.K.O. before slinking his way to the back just as quickly as he had come out.

With Brown & Lashley taken out, this left just Lesnar & Angle in the ring and the crowd was buzzing. They went at each other like rabid animals, trying tot ear each other limb from limb. Lesnar got the upperhand and was almost able to hit the F-5 when he got Angle up on his shoulders, but Angle showed great wherewithal to slide down Lesnar's back and right into the Ankle Lock! Lesnar was screaming in pain and desperately trying to get to the ropes, but every time he got close, Angle would pull him back to the center of the ring. Lesnar kicked and scratched to get out of it, but when Angle drop to his back and wrapped Lesnar's leg in a grapevine, that was it. Lesnar had no choice but to tap or risk serious injury going into Super Cade.

Kurt Angle and Bobby Lashley defeated Brock Lesnar and Monty Brown when K. Angle made Lesnar submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:14:42.
Rating: *** ½

Kurt Angle had just defeated Brock Lesnar, and not only defeated him, but made him submit in the middle of the ring! This can't bode well for Lesnar, but he made the right choice by submitting and not allowing Angle to break his ankle. Lesnar will have a couple of weeks tore-tune his strategy, but right now the ball is in Angle's court.

Foley has Angle and Lesnar choose competitors for their tag team match later tonight.

RVD, Abyss, and Matt Hardy prove themselves worthy leading up to the six man at Super Cade and hey, Stevie Richards doesn't eat the pin. That was a bit of a surprise!

All the pep talks in the world cannot prepare a young man for a round with Umaga.

Yup! Samoan Spike, pin! Here, comes Booker T, Elix, and then Dreamer and Umaga murders them all to really prove his dominance. I doubt he's going to win Money in the Bank, but I think he'll put in a pretty good showing.

Sharky gets squashed by Orton, as he looks dominant going into Money in the Bank.

MNM should just quick while they're ahead.

Yay, Burchill wins and is in Money in the Bank, which is a given pretty much considering that Monty is in.

Cryme Tyme wins over Edge and Christian! That should really shoot them up the tag team rankings and in fact, as Foley said, a title shot is the works. Damn, I doubt they'd win, but it should be a fun little match.

Helms is doing business with Must See TV. Hmmm

And it's obvious that he is buying the services of Rhyno, who batters poor Rey-Rey to a pulp with the Gore! Second Gore through the table and needless to say Rey's chances of competing, much less win the belt.

Hell in a Cell is going to be awesome!

Angle chooses Lashley, and Lesnar chooses the Alpha Male! Advantage: Lesnar by a country mile. Sweet merciful crap, Angle makes Lesnar tap! That's has him going to Super Cade with a boat load of momentum

Great show.
