[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 3/27/06

Snabbit888Posted on 03/22/08 at 21:44:41

Monday Night Explosion, live from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania! What a night we had planned! The main event would be a huge one as the Commissioner Tommy Dreamer set it up so that the top contender for the World Heavyweight Title and the top contender for the Intercontinental Title would meet up as Booker T took on Monty Brown! Also, John Bradshaw Layfield defends the Intercontinental Title against Frankie "the Future" Kazarian! Not only that, but by the end of the night, 6 more names would be announced for Deadly Draw! All that, and tons more like only Global Championship Wrestling can present!

BROCK LESNAR IS LOOKING FOR COMPETITION
The show kicked off with the thunderous applause of the crowd when out came the reigning World Heavyweight champion BROCK LESNAR for an interview. After the crowd died down, Lesnar discussed Booker T becoming the #1 contender last week. Lesnar said Booker winning was impressive, and that Booker is highly motivated and will give him a test at Deadly Draw. "But I am the Monster, and I'm going to be holding this World Title for a long long time. I have beaten Booker before, and I'll do it again." Lesnar's attention then turned to wanting to get some ring work in before Deadly Draw, challenging anyone to take him on a week from now. This brought out KID KASH, alongside his bodyguard Lance Hoyt. Kash proceeded to talk a lot of smack about Lesnar, to which Lesnar said that if Kash wants a piece, he can have it next week. "Oh God no, not me!" Kash replied quickly. "You'll be taking on Lance Hoyt!" Hoyt got in Lesnar's face, and we have learned that next week, it will be Brock Lesnar vs. Lance Hoyt in a non-title match. Lesnar's title might not be on the line, but Hoyt is a dangerous man. This might not be wise for the champion to be taking on this close to Deadly Draw.

Match #1
D-Ray 3000 vs. Gregory Helms
Gregory Helms is back in GCW, and wherever he was for the last few months, he certainly found a meanstreak while he was there. Poor D-Ray 3000 was the recipient of the onslaught, not really getting out of the blocks against Helms. Helms easily beat D-Ray, hitting him with the Shining Wizard before cockily pinning him with a crucifix to rub it in. Helms is back, and from the rumblings backstage, he is setting his eyes on championship gold.

Gregory Helms pinned D-Ray 3000 after a crucifix in 0:03:02.
Rating: ** ¾

Match #2
The World's Greatest Tag Team (World Tag Team champions)/AJ Styles vs. MNM/Paul Burchill
A week ago, the World's Greatest Tag Team got the first measure of oneupsmanship as Charlie Haas defeated Johnny Nitro. This week, both teams recruited partners for a six-man tag team match. The WGTT had AJ Styles and MNM had Paul Burchill. This match suffered a bit from each of the threesomes not being that familiar with each other, but this was still a solid match. MNM found a way to even the score as Shannon Moore took AJ Styles by surprise with a flying forearm to put this one away. However, to date, MNM has never scored a pinfall or submission over either Charlie Haas or Shelton Benjamin in any capacity. That's something they're going to have to contend with as they go into their World Tag Team Title match.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) and Paul Burchill defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) and AJ Styles when S. Moore pinned Styles after a flying forearm in 0:12:04.
Rating: ** ½

EDGE CONFRONTS MARIA BUT GETS MORE THAN HE BARGAINED FOR
Maria was in the ring shooting t-shirts out to the crowd and having a good time when it was all cut short by the music of Edge, and out came the Rated R Superstar and his Brothel. This wasn't a pleasant visit for Maria though, as Edge was obviously pissed. Edge and his Brothel cornered Maria and he verbally berated her, saying that she made him look like a fool last week and that NOBODY turns down an offer to join his Brothel. Edge was so irate that he then had Lita, Gail Kim, and Mickie James all begin slapping Maria around, which prompted MATT HARDY to run down to a thunderous applause, steel chair in hand! The Brothel and Edge scattered in a heartbeat, as one would expect. Edge was livid, yelling that Hardy had no reason being anywhere near a GCW event (which is true, as Edge did beat Hardy in a Loser-Leaves-Town match back in October). There are definitely going to be reprecussions over this. Who would have thought we'd ever see Matt Hardy again?

Match #3
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Bobby Lashley (w/ Lamont)
Rey Mysterio Jr. pulled off the impossible last week when he singlehandedly eliminated Bobby Lashley from the battle royal on his way to earning a spot in Deadly Draw. He had a far larger mountain to climb this week as he looked to be the first man to beat Lashley by pinfall or submission. Mysterio was game and clearly had a quickness advantage over Lashley. Problem is, sometimes you can outquick a guy all night, but when he is a beast like Lashley, eventually you're going to get caught, and eventually you'll be drilled into the mat. That is exactly what happened as Lashley hit the Dominator to keep his streak alive.

Bobby Lashley pinned Rey Mysterio Jr. with the Dominator in 0:05:36.
Rating: ** ¾

We've learned as well that Bobby Lashley will also be in Deadly Draw. At this point, he has to be considered a favorite to win the whole thing.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS WANTS ANSWERS, BUT DOESN'T GET THE ONES HE EXPECTED
The X champion Christopher Daniels was pissed as one would expect after CM Punk, his long time enemy and short term partner from a week ago through powder in his eyes and cost them the match. The Fallen Angel stormed into Punk's locker room, causing Daffney to shriek, ready to fight. Punk managed to stop Daniels with his words, telling him it wasn't what he thought. Punk said that he knows it looked bad, but he sees something in Daniels, the same thing he saw in him back when he came to GCW. "It's time for you to take the next step. I can lead you there." Daniels wasn't buying it, and told Punk if he wants to "teach" him anything, he can do it in a match at Deadly Draw.

RHYNO TAKES EXCEPTION TO ANGLE'S GUARANTEE OF VICTORY
Kurt Angle was the first man to throw his name into the hat for the Deadly Draw match, along with a guarantee that he would be winning the match and moving on to Super Cade. One man who took offense to this was RHYNO, who confronted Angle about it backstage, claiming that he would be the one to win the match. "Normally I kick ass for money, but this time, it's going to be for me." Rhyno then challenged Angle for a match tonight, which Angle accepted, and it will happen NEXT.

Match #4
Kurt Angle vs. Rhyno
Rhyno was looking to prove a point that he was a force to be reckon with at Deadly Draw, and he certainly did that. If you don't believe me, just ask Kurt Angle. Rhyno has been primarily a hired hand for most of his GCW stint, but he showed tonight that when he is looking out for professional gain, he can bring it. Angle got everything he could handle, and more importantly for his chances to win Deadly Draw, absorbed a lot of punishment before he was narrowly able to escape with a win when he countered the Gore with a quick takedown and locked on the Ankle Lock.

Kurt Angle made Rhyno submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:14:59.
Rating: **** 1/4

Rhyno may have lost the match, but he took a big step in the right direction. And with his entry in Deadly Draw, he could propel himself straight to the main event at Super Cade.

Match #5
Intercontinental Title Match
John Bradshaw Layfield © (w/ Lamont) vs. Frankie Kazarian
Word on the street is saying that John Bradshaw Layfield is not at all happy about who won the battle royal last week as he now is scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Title against the longest reigning champion of any kind in GCW's short history, Monty Brown. JBL was forced to defend his title tonight as well, being put up against Frankie "The Future" Kazarian. Kazarian may be the Future, but unfortunately he was not the present as JBL didn't have that tough of a time putting the youngster away.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Frankie Kazarian with the Stock Market Crash in 0:06:46.
Rating: *** ½
(John Bradshaw Layfield retained the GCW Intercontinental Title.)

Beating Frankie Kazarian is one thing, but JBL's challenge in Monty Brown is going to be something all together different.

RANDY ORTON NEEDS TO CHILL OUT
Rob Van Dam and Chris Benoit were backstage hanging out when a pissy Randy Orton came by. Orton originally was content merely storming by, but RVD made a comment to Benoit about how Orton needed to chill out. Pretty harmless, right? Orton sure didn't think so. Orton completely blew his lid, saying that he would kick RVD's ass right then and there. He however thought better of it as going up against RVD and Benoit when you're by yourself is a not a good idea. Orton said he could easily beat RVD and Benoit, but he's not going to do it tonight, but next week. It has been signed - a triple threat match between these three athletes. What a match that oughta be!

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
Monty Brown vs. Booker T (w/ Sharmell)
Our main event was a huge match for both Booker T and Monty Brown, as a loss here could kill their momentum going into their respective title matches at Deadly Draw. This was a very evenly contested matchup, but the biggest factor in this match wasn't the two men involved in the match, but rather their two respective opponents at the pay-per-view. Brock Lesnar is confident in his ability to defeat Booker T, so he was nowhere near this match. John Bradshaw Layfield, however, isn't nearly as confident as that, wanting to do anything he can to soften the Alpha Male up before they tangle. As the match raged on, Brown had all the momentum in going his way and looked like he was going to put a major dent into Booker's confidence. But this is when JBL went into attack mode, first sending out Lamont to distract Brown. Lamont jumped on the apron, but he was easily dispatched of with a hard right hand. JBL started to come out next toward the ring, but referee Nick Patrick jumped to the floor to stop this before anything can happen. Unfortunately, this left his back turned and he didn't see BOBBY LASHLEY jump in the ring and spear the crap out of the Alpha Male! Lashley jumped back out of the ring, and Booker grabbed Brown with an inside cradle. Patrick caught a glimpse of the pinfall in the ring, jumped in and made the 3 count.

Booker T pinned Monty Brown after an inside cradle in 0:10:30.
Rating: *** 1/4

Booker T stole a victory here, but I don't think he cares. If something similar happens at Deadly Draw, Booker is the World Heavyweight champion, by hook or by crook.

(Random thoughts as I read, and I apologize if this seems a bit disjointed)

Lesnar wants some competition and gets Kid Kash? Kash seems to be toeing a rather dangerous line talking smack about Mr. Lesnar but wisely, he backs off and offers LANCE HOYT~! Hoyt versus Lesnar, if there is any justice in this world, Hoyt would crush Lesnar in two minutes but Lesnar will most likely win. However, we shall see next week.

D-Ray 300 and Gregory Helms. A meanstreak, as Helms shows some ruthless agression in his match. Shining Wizard, followed by a crucifix for the pin just so Helms can be a dick. Championship gold, wouldn't be the worst possible choice in the world.

The WGTT and AJ Styles versus MNM and Paul Burchill. I had forgotten that Moore was in MNM due to not reading GCW in a long time. Nice psychology with the teams not exactly gelling correctly, and Moore channels the spirit of Tito Santana, to win with the Flying Forearm.

Edge is out, and with all the women he has, I'm thinking that Charles Wright may have a case for gimmick infringment. The Edgefather and his merry band of hoes er women bully Maria until Matt Hardy makes his return. Oh no, breaking a stipulation in professional wrestling, such unheard of debachery. Still, hope to see Hardy reinstated and the inevitable Hardy/Edge confrontation.

Lashley over Rey...boo-urns to that. Never got into Blaster Lashley in real life, you've done a perfectly acceptable job with him, but still, don't like him beating Rey. I can see why you did it, but you know.

Alright Daniels/Punk against each other at Deadly Draw. It just goes to show you that old wounds never really heal.

Rhyno takes offense to Angle's promise to win Deadly Draw and Rhyno wants to win, which leads to a match between the two. Angle wins, figured that would happen, but Rhyno looked to have put up a hell of a fight which will raise his status in the GCW pecking order.

Your hero and mine, John Bradshaw Layfield beats some respect into Frankie Kazarian. Brown/Layfield should be a donnybrook, hope Layfield wins and reigns on as champion until he retires. At least that's how I would book it.

RVD and Benoit are backstage, when Randy Orton comes out, suffering from PMS or something like that. RVD suggests Orton chill out, which is a great idea, but Orton takes it the wrong way. Maybe he needs to buy DDP's yoga book or something? So next week it's RVD, Orton and Benoit in a Triple Threat Match, coolness. My prediction is that Orton wins.

Monty Brown and Booker T do battle in the main event of the evening. A key match for both men, as they have title matches at the Pay Per View. I must commend you on the finish as it was both a decisive victory and no one got buried.

And looking at the card for Deadly Draw, based on that early line up, I think Orton's going to win but there is a month to build up, so my pick could change.
