[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 2/13/06

Snabbit888Posted on 06/26/07 at 05:25:31

Six days separates us from tonight and Beat Your Valentine, and only one day separates us Valentine's Day. But love was not at the forefront tonight, because it was Monday and that means Monday Night Explosion, live from Starkville, Mississippi! On tonight's show, Christopher Daniels defends the X Title against AJ Styles! Also, in our main event, based on the limo incident from a week ago, Randy Orton takes on John Bradshaw Layfield! What a night it should be!

THE WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES ON THE LINE... AGAIN
The show opened with a very serious Lance Storm and Edge (with his brothel) out, immediately calling out Commissioner Tommy Dreamer. Storm and Edge were furious about losing the World Tag Team Titles, complaining that Brock Lesnar shouldn't have been able to simply inject himself into the match whenever he wanted. "Brown obviously didn't want a partner, so Lesnar can't make himself his partner because he feels like it!" After more and more complaining, BROCK LESNAR and MONTY BROWN came out and told Storm and Edge instead of bitching about it, maybe they should just fight it out. Dreamer was happy with that and made the match for right now, but before it could start, MNM came out. They got in the ring and told Dreamer they were tired of waiting and asking when they were going to get the World Tag Team Title shot they are owed, and they wanted it right now. Dreamer didn't get much of a chance to reply because Lesnar and Brown nailed Johnny Nitro and Shannon Moore with hard right hands, and the match began!

Match #1
World Tag Team Title Match
Brock Lesnar/"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown © vs. Lance Storm/"The Rated R Superstar" Edge (w/ Lita/Mickie James/Gail Kim) vs. MNM (w/ Melina)
Lance Storm and Edge were none too pleased that MNM managed to weasel their way into their rematch, but they didn't have much choice as our show kicked off with a huge match for the World Tag Team Titles. Storm and Edge actually tried to use Johnny Nitro and Shannon Moore's presence to their advantage and kept them in the ring against Brock Lesnar and Monty Brown, hoping that those two teams would destroy each other and leave them to pick the bones. That didn't particularly work, because a) Lesnar and Brown may be big, but they're not stupid, and b) MNM were trying the exact same strategy. Eventually it became Lesnar & Brown sitting on the outside watching the two heel teams destroy each other!

The pace picked up in the later minutes of this match. The tide really turned when it looked like Lesnar was going to help his team retain the titles when he had Nitro up for the F-5. Brown had already taken Joey Mercury out with the Pounce, but Lesnar never got a chance to hit his finisher as Lance Storm clipped Lesnar's knee from behind. Lesnar yelled out in obvious pain, clutching his left knee as he fell. Edge used this time to hit Nitro with the Spear, and for an unprecedented third straight week, we have new tag team champions.

Triangle Match:
Edge and Lance Storm defeated MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) and Brock Lesnar and Monty Brown when Edge pinned Nitro with the Spear in 0:23:37.
Rating: ****
(Edge and Lance Storm won the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

For the second time in two weeks, Lance Storm and Edge are the World Tag Team champions, but the bigger story here is Brock Lesnar and his injured knee. Officials came down to assist Lesnar, but he refused the help and slowly limped to the back, but it was obvious that he was in a lot of pain. Is he going to be able to even wrestle this Sunday when he defends the World Title against Storm, with Edge as the special referee?

Match #2
"Bulldog" Harry Smith vs. Bobby Lashley
Though not officially a punishment, one can't help but think that Chris Benoit "insisting" that Harry Smith wrestle Bobby Lashley tonight was a bit cruel and unusual. The Bulldog got himself fired up and ready to fight, and got in some brief snippets of offense. He also got a large helping of the canvas from Lashley though, culminating in a running powerslam and a win for Lashley.

Bobby Lashley pinned Harry Smith after a running powerslam in 0:05:52.
Rating: **

Match over? Yes. Fighting over? No. Out came ABYSS, who will meet Lashley this Sunday, and the two giants began bashing each other left and right. It didn't take long for the GCW Official Brigade to come out to separate them, but it did take the GCW Official Brigade long to actually get them separated. There will be no separating the two come Beat Your Valentine, however.

JBL WANTS REVENGE ON RANDY ORTON... TONIGHT
John Bradshaw Layfield was not in a jovial mood as he did an interview backstage with Maria. JBL said last week he was humiliated when Orton stole his limo and drove him out to the middle of nowhere and left him for dead. JBL said it took him over 8 hours to find help, and that he "nearly died of pneumonia." He added it was a "miracle" that he is standing there today. JBL went on to say that his lawyers advised him to press charges, but JBL had a better idea, and that was to kick Randy Orton's ass TONIGHT. What a big main event this will be, and there's no chance that it's going to be pretty.

Match #3
The Hooligans vs. The Blue World Order
We haven't seen the team of Paul Burchill and Doug Williams in the ring for awhile, but they have been showing us their competitive chops in a series of events they have filmed, ranging from football to American Football, all the way to foosball (they're a diverse duo). They showed us that same competitive spirit in their reentry into the ring, taking on Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie, the Blue World Order. Truthfully, the Hooligans should have won this match much quicker than they did, but that competitive fire came out again and they started fighting with each other over who should take the pinfall after nailing Richards with the Guillotine. As Burchill and Williams started slapping it out, it would be Burchill that would take the pinfall after causing Williams to get frustrated, taking a wild swing that failed to hit the mark and sent him flying to the floor. The Hooligans win the match, but Williams and Burchill punched each other all the way to the back.

The Hooligans (Doug Williams and Paul Burchill) defeated The bWo (The Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards) when Burchill pinned Richards with the Guillotine in 0:05:55.
Rating: *** 1/4

THE CUTTING EDGE - SPECIAL GUESTS - THE WORLD'S GREATEST TAG TEAM
Edge and Lance Storm, once again the World Tag Team champions, decided to throw a public celebration on the set of Edge's show, the Cutting Edge. Edge's brothel, Lita, Mickie James, and Gail Kim were engaging in a champagne wet t-shirt contest in the ring (and yet somehow Storm's expression remained unchanged). But the festivities were interrupted when SHELTON BENJAMIN and CHARLIE HAAS, the World's Greatest Tag Team, came down and said they wanted their title shot as soon as possible, just as they were promised. Storm told them to be patient because they had bigger fish to fry, including beating Brock Lesnar senseless this Sunday and taking the World Heavyweight Title as well. The WGTT were growing more impatient, and said that if they don't get the title shot next week on Explosion, there was going to be trouble. Cooler heads prevailed as Edge and Storm said it would be no problem, title shot next week. Haas and Benjamin smiled and turned away, but were jumped by the champs! Storm and Edge put the hurting on the WGTT, finishing them off with a Conchairto for each of them. The beating would have been worse had BROCK LESNAR and MONTY BROWN not ran out to clear the ring, but Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin were in desperate need of medical attention.

Match #4
"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Hoyt
Rob Van Dam has a match against CM Punk this Sunday, but he met a man with a completely different style tonight as he took on Kid Kash's muscle, Lance Hoyt. Hoyt dominated the early moments of the match with his power advantage, and RVD looked in danger of losing this match early. But RVD showed some great tenacity and some great ring know-how, using some great counters that someone like CM Punk would be more likely to use. RVD even picked up the win with a picture perfect crucifix. Even though he'll probably never admit it, somewhere CM Punk has to be impressed.

Rob Van Dam pinned Lance Hoyt after a crucifix in 0:04:54.
Rating: ** ¾

Match #5
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels © vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
We were in for a treat as we got to see Christopher Daniels defend his X Title against AJ Styles, who earned this match after winning a battle royal a week ago. This match by itself would add a lot of intrigue due to the skill level of the combatants involved, but it took a different twist than we could have ever expected. This Sunday at Beat Your Valentine, Daniels is scheduled to defend the X Title against Elix Skipper. However, if Daniels were to lose the title to Styles, it would be Styles defending the title against his opponent this Sunday, Kid Kash. What this led to was a strange dynamic where SKIPPER and KASH got involved in the match, but were actually trying to help their opponents for Beat Your Valentine win! Skipper was getting cheap shots in on Styles, tripping him up, etc. while Kash was putting Styles' foot on the ropes if he was getting pinned and trying to distract Daniels whenever he could, all in an effort to make sure that they would get the title match this Sunday. What this led to was tempers bubbling over, causing Skipper and Kash to brawl on the outside! During this commotion, Daniels hit the Angel's Wings and retained the title.

Christopher Daniels pinned AJ Styles with the Angel's Wings in 0:08:46.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

BOOKER T "APOLOGIZES" TO REY MYSTERIO JR.
After being shown the video of what really happened at Winter Warfare by Rhyno last week, Booker T was determined to make things right tonight, and he asked for some interview time to do so. Booker immediately called out Rey Mysterio Jr., who came to the ring, but he was tentative. Booker said that he shouldn't have just blindly believed his wife and that he had made a mistake, and he wanted to apologize. Mysterio accepted the apology and the two shook hands. Mysterio was about to leave, but Booker stopped him and said that he wanted him here for this. Booker then brought out his wife, SHARMELL. Sharmell did not look happy with the now reunited team in the ring, but she was even more displeased when Booker started running her down, calling her a "liar" amongst other things I'd rather not repeat. Sharmell was in tears by the time that Booker was done, and she turned to leave the ring. But Booker stopped her too. "Oh, and Sharmell? One more thing... I love you, baby." And then in a blink of an eye, Booker NAILED Mysterio between the eyes with the microphone! It had been a setup! Booker and Sharmell took turns stomping away at Mysterio, and Booker planted his former partner with the Book End. Luckily for Mysterio, RHYNO ran down and chased Booker and Sharmell away before any more damage could be done.

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
Randy Orton vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont)
JBL was in a horrible mood coming into this main event, especially after Randy Orton, his opponent for tonight, stole his limo last week and left him abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Orton enjoyed himself thoroughly, but he was wouldn't have quite as good of a time this week. Orton has been very good at getting under people's skin as of late, not only JBL, but the Intercontinental champion Kurt Angle, who came down after this match started to add some color commentary. Not only that, but you knew the champ was waiting for the opportunity to extract a little revenge himself before this Sunday. Everyone involved here wanted the momentum going into the triple threat match this weekend, and ironically, the one who would get that momentum would be the one not even in this match. After a great encounter between JBL and Orton, the Legend Killer had the advantage and had JBL set up for the R.K.O., but Angle had other plans for that as he reached in and tripped Orton up. Orton took a wild swing at Angle but missed, and when he turned back toward JBL, he caught a face full of the Stock Market Crash and a healthy helping of the loser's cut of the purse.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Randy Orton with the Stock Market Crash in 0:14:56.
Rating: **** ½

JBL strutted around post-match as if he just won the Intercontinental Title, but Angle reminded him who the champion was by dropping him with the Angle Slam and standing tall as we went off the air.

Back!  Damn it... this means I have to actually do stuff... lame...

*hops into his Delorian and travels a year and a half into the past*

FLUX CAPACITOR'ED!!

Ah... Lance Storm on televised wrestling.  Just as god intended.  And by got I mean Keiji Muto of course.  *says 20 Hail Moonsaults*

Storm & Edge got the title back!  Yay!  (Yes, I fixed it.  Damn my brain and it's side effects from being chemically imbalanced causing errors in feedback!)

Still love the Kazarian/Benoit/Smith dynamic.  Poor Smith.  Should've stayed in GLWF and not set Petey Williams up for that Television title win.  YES!  THAT'S RIGHT!  I REMEMBER STUFF! *for the win*

hah.  I remember JBL wrestling.  I think.  It probably doesn't help that not only has it been a while since I've had my head in the GCW/GLWF world, but in wrestling in general...

Silly Brits!  Hooligans are funny.  bWo needs more air time.  You know I can come up with some ridiculously good... and better yet well thought out and justified stuff for them to do.   ;D

Brown & Lesnar's new tandem move is running to the ring.  Good cardio at least.

Big of a shorty, but yay for the RVD winning.  Not big on the Hoytness.  Never have been, doubt I ever will be.

I don't remember off hand what Daniels is up to currently in GCW-land, but you really can't say boo about a Daniels/Styles match.

I CALL SHENANIGANS!  Damn that Booker!  Redemption!  I demand redemptionation!

Nice end to the night with a good match and an Angle Slam to cap things off.

Predictiontology Time!

World Heavyweight Title Match - Brock Lesnar © vs. Lance Storm (I'd kill to see Storm win... but I'd also eat my hat if he did.  Please note my hat is made of the finest salami)

Intercontinental Title Match - Kurt Angle © vs. John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Randy Orton (Dunno why, just a feeling)

X Title Match - "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels © vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper

Abyss vs. Bobby Lashley

"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. "Bulldog" Harry Smith (I almost wanna say Benoit, but I think a Kazarian rub would do better anglewise than a Benoit win)

"The Manbeast" Rhyno vs. Booker T

*sigh*... guess I need to start my next GLWF card.  Hope I can remember whats going on in my own circuit.  :)

Cool to see GCW's ongoing.

And it's starts with another tag team title match, but this time with MNM involved. Should be good. Though it's ironic that they came out to complain about Lesnar injecting himself into a match, but have MNM interject themselves into this one.

And all is right in the world as Lance Storm gets a title again. Hopefully, this ends the hotshotting of belts. Of course, all these things going against Lesnar means he'll retain at Beat Your Valentine.

*sigh* I'm not going to put what I initially thought regarding this Smith/Lashley match. But the expected result happened. I'm looking forward to Lashley/Abyss.

How dare Randy Orton leave a piece of Americana like JBL stranded? That fiend!

The Hooligans are a cool gimmick, but when it results in having any difficulty in beating the bWo, maybe it's time for Doug Williams to try something new.

Lance Storm's expression doesn't change for nothing! He's like the royal guard. And I guess this puts the WGTT's title shot in jeopardy.

Interesting match to show RVD's wrestling ability, though it didn't do Hoyt any favors. The RVD/Punk match should be fun too.

Excellent match between Daniels and Styles. It's always cool to have these two wrestle each other. Maybe Styles can get a chase at the X Title after BYV.

Poor Rey. He's been getting hit with every sort of foreign object. Giant crosses, microphones, stiletto heels. You'd think you have it out for him.

Angle's too sneaky for Orton and JBL needed the win more. Good main event.
