[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 1/30/06

Snabbit888Posted on 02/26/07 at 03:30:44

Welcome to the ALLTEL Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas for Monday Night Explosion! One week ago, Lance Storm and Edge brutally assaulted Brock Lesnar. Storm has the right to any type of match he wants with anyone he wants at Beat Your Valentine, and he has apparently chosen Lesnar and the World Heavyweight Title. But tonight, Storm and Edge have the chance to take the World Tag Team Titles as they take on Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle! And it is important to note that Monty Brown, who wants nothing worse than to rip Storm and Edge to shreds, has been barred from the building to ensure this is a clean match. Also tonight, Christopher Daniels defends the X Title against Shannon Moore of MNM, Booker T meets Rob Van Dam one-on-one, and Abyss goes at it with CM Punk!

LANCE STORM MAKES THE DECISION FOR BEAT YOUR VALENTINE FINAL
The show kicked off with Lance Storm coming out, and after saying he wanted to be serious for a minute, he made it official and said that with his prize for winning Best of the Best, he will meet Brock Lesnar at Beat Your Valentine on February 19 from Orlando, Florida, for the World Heavyweight Title. Joey Styles tried to milk more out of Storm, such as what the match stipulations would be, but Storm wasn't budging. Storm said that he will let everyone know the stipulations soon enough, after Edge and he become the World Tag Team champions.

Match #1
Rob Van Dam vs. Booker T (w/ Sharmell)
Booker T is not the most popular man in GCW right now, especially because the fans feel as if he is letting Sharmell wear the pants and call all the shots, as was evident by the chants of "WHIPPED!" throughout this opening contest against Rob Van Dam. Booker can't understand why the fans have turned on him because as far as he knows, Rey Mysterio Jr. wasn't holding up his end of the bargain and that is why he broke up the team. Booker let the chants and the taunts get to him which resulted in him eating the Five Star Frog Splash and a loss. Sharmell was livid but managed to convince Booker that he lost because of what Rey Mysterio did to him. She really does wear the pants.

Rob Van Dam pinned Booker T with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:09:54.
Rating: *** ½

RHYNO CONFRONTS BOOKER T BACKSTAGE
As Booker T and Sharmell got to the back, RHYNO was standing there to confront him. Sharmell didn't back down at all, getting in the Manbeast's face and demanding that he get out of the way. Rhyno did, surprisingly, but as Sharmell passed, he stepped back in the way to get in Booker's face, saying, "You're the one I want to talk to anyway." Rhyno told Booker he was making a huge mistake listening to his wife, telling him that he was whipped and to be a man. Booker got defensive, but before he could speak, Sharmell interjected and told Rhyno that Booker is his own man and that he is definitely not whipped. Rhyno laughed, and then asked if Booker even saw the tape of the tag match from Winter Warfare yet, or if he was just blindly letting his wife drag him around by his johnson. Rhyno walked off smiling as Booker was left baffled. Sharmell assured him she was telling the truth and they went on their way.

Match #2
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels © vs. Shannon "All That And" Moore (w/ Melina)
Despite tough competition, Christopher Daniels has impressed as the first X champion, holding the title for over 2 months now and showing no signs of slowing down. He had stiff competition tonight though as he took on Shannon Moore of MNM. This was a great X Title contest and a great display of what these athletes could do. Daniels had the deck stacked against him already with Melina at ringside with Moore, but it got worse for him as ELIX SKIPPER, a man who many feel has an equal claim to the X Title, showed up at the top of the ramp to watch the match. Despite Skipper's efforts to distract and Melina's attempts at interference, Daniels pulled it out when he surprised Moore with the Angel's Wings to retain his title.

Christopher Daniels pinned Shannon Moore with the Angel's Wings in 0:06:41.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

ELIX SKIPPER WANTS ANOTHER SHOT
After the match, Prime Time had a microphone and started by actually congratulating the Fallen Angel on his title defense, "as empty as it is since everyone knows that X Title should be mine." Skipper said that if he had just 5 more minutes, he would have put Daniels away and he'd be the X champion right now. Daniels said that Skipper could be right. "It was a great match at Winter Warfare, and I'm not happy it ended with a draw either." Daniels suggested that they settle it once and for all, find out who the better man is. Daniels offered Skipper one more shot at the title at Beat Your Valentine, to which Skipper quickly accepted. This is a rematch I am highly looking forward to.

Match #3
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont & Bobby Lashley)
With Randy Orton's recent string of attacks on JBL and Kurt Angle alike, JBL brought backup with him for his match against Rey Mysterio Jr. in the form of Bobby Lashley. Though JBL's official reasoning for Lashley's presence at ringside was to watch his back in case Orton or angle tried to cheap shot him, I'm sure he wasn't upset about Lashley taking liberties with Mysterio, ramming him hard into the ring post on the floor while JBL distracted the referee. It looked like JBL was going to cruise to an easy victory, but the tide completely turned when RANDY ORTON sprinted from the back and blasted Lashley in the back with a steel chair! JBL saw that his backup was down and Orton on the outside holding a chair, which distracted him long enough for Mysterio to surprise him with a rollup and take the win. Many expected Orton to jump in the ring after the match and go after JBL with the chair, but all he did was smile and walk to the back, leaving JBL fuming about his loss.

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned John Bradshaw Layfield after a roll up in 0:06:42.
Rating: ** ¾

LANCE STORM & EDGE PUT SOME PLANS IN MOTION
Lance Storm & Edge (along with his brothel of women) knew that Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle would be pissed off at them for their attack in last week's main event, so they were looking to have a contingency plan. They came upon SHELTON BENJAMIN & CHARLIE HAAS talking backstage, and they stopped to have a chat. The World's Greatest Tag Team made it known right off the bat that if Storm and Edge won the tag titles tonight, it would be a short-lived because they were going to become 5-time champions. Storm countered by saying that tonight was their night, and that Lesnar & Angle had kicked the WGTT's asses so many times that he's lost count. "But that's okay. Let's face it; you won't be getting any more title shots against Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. But if you guys help us win, I guarantee that you two will get the first crack at our titles." Haas & Benjamin thought about it, and said that they had a good feeling that there would be new World Tag Team champions by the end of the night.

Match #4
D-Ray 3000 (w/ Shark Boy) vs. Kid Kash (w/ Lance Hoyt)
Kid Kash has been in a surly mood ever since his troubles with Shark Boy and D-Ray 3000 started, and it finally came to a head last week when he was forced to dress up like a shrimp. Kash is even more disgruntled than before, and D-Ray took the brunt of it tonight. I wish I could say that this was a competitive match, but I'd be doing this beating a disservice. Kash dominated from bell-to-bell, putting D-Ray away with the Dead Level.

Kid Kash pinned D-Ray 3000 with the Dead Level in 0:05:08.
Rating: ***

The bell did not signal the end of the match for Kash though as he continued to pummel D-Ray. Shark Boy didn't get a chance to intervene as Lance Hoyt tossed him into the ring steps, knocking him out. The GCW Official Brigade tried to get down to help, but Hoyt kept them at bay while Kash tore D-Ray apart. Hoyt may have been able to keep security at bay, but what he failed to spot was AJ STYLES running in from the crowd, catching Kash off-guard with an Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT. Styles took it to Kash, planting him with the Styles Clash before Hoyt finally realized what was going on and pulled Kash to safety. We now know that AJ Styles and Kid Kash will get a chance to tear each other apart again very soon, as soon as Beat Your Valentine when they go one-on-one.

CHRIS BENOIT HAS HAD IT WITH HIS APPRENTICES
We cut to backstage where Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith were arguing with each other tooth and nail, each blaming the other for their recent losses in tag team matches. The bickering became more and more fierce until CHRIS BENOIT interjected with harsh intent. The Crippler told Kazarian and Smith he was tired of this petty bickering, and quite frankly, BOTH men had been disappointing. Benoit told them that he had Tommy Dreamer sign a match for him for Beat Your Valentine. It will be Frankie Kazarian vs. Harry Smith... vs. CHRIS BENOIT in a Triple Threat match! Kazarian and Smith were not happy, but the Rabid Wolverine ended by telling them both they are going to be taught a lesson on February 19th.

Match #5
Abyss vs. CM Punk (w/ Daffney)
Abyss and CM Punk have met a few times before, and it's always an interesting match to watch because unlike most competitors, Punk doesn't seem to be intimidated by the Monster. He takes the fight straight to Abyss, and Abyss seems to enjoy it because he likes a good fight. It's unfortunate that this great match had to be affected by outside influences the way it was, because we could have had a classic on our hands. But, ROB VAN DAM couldn't keep himself held back anymore as he ran out to go after Punk. During this commotion, BOBBY LASHLEY, still fuming over what Randy Orton did to him earlier with a chair, was in a pissed off mood and decided to focus his intentions to Abyss, which Abyss welcomed with open arms. As the two monsters clashed and RVD and Punk tangled on the other side of the ring, Mike Chioda had seen enough and threw the match out, and then helped the rest of the GCW Official Brigade try to break up this mess.

Abyss and CM Punk battled to a no contest in 0:08:59.
Rating: **** ¾

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
World Tag Team Title Match
Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle © vs. Lance Storm/Edge (w/ Lita, Mickie James, & Gail Kim)
On paper, not many would give Lance Storm and Edge a fighting chance against the World Tag Team champions, World champ Brock Lesnar and Intercontinental champ Kurt Angle, but the challengers played it smart. For starters, Storm and Edge made an attack on the champs a week ago, putting Lesnar and Angle in an emotional state. Secondly, Storm let everyone know that he would use his Best of the Best match to challenge Lesnar for the World Heavyweight championship at Beat Your Valentine, refusing to let anyone know what the stipulations would be, which has to be weighing on the champ's mind. And finally, Angle has no idea when JBL or Randy Orton may attack. This led to the challengers having the distinct mental advantage.

However, matches aren't only mental, but also physical, and no one does the physical better than Lesnar and Angle. A great match from the opening bell with all four men bringing it all to the table in hopes to be dining on tag team gold by the end. Even Edge took his attention off the ladies long enough for him to pull out all the stops. At the end of a stellar contest, what would make the final difference was the deal that the challengers made with the World's Greatest Tag Team earlier in the night. CHARLIE HAAS and SHELTON BENJAMIN sprinted down to the ring late in the match, going after the two men who took the titles from them a couple months ago. Unfortunately for them, Lesnar and Angle saw them coming, quickly disposing of them from the ring before they could even throw a single punch. However, it was enough for Edge to catch Lesnar off guard and drop him with the Spear. With the aid of the feet on the ropes, Edge pinned the World Heavyweight champion and now we have brand new World Tag Team champions.

After the match, Storm and Edge grabbed the World Tag Team Titles and made a break for it before an angry Lesnar and Angle could do anything about it. Haas and Benjamin may not have gotten in any offense, but they did their part and helped Storm and Edge become the World Tag Team champions. This just adds more fuel to the fire as we get closer to Beat Your Valentine.

Edge and Lance Storm defeated Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle when Edge pinned Lesnar with the Spear in 0:25:24.
Rating: **** ½

WOO ALLTEL!  You sponsor an arena... yet I can't get good reception in my house.  W.... T.... F. :)

Storm and Edge have a tag title shot.  I'd love to see them win it, but I don't think tonight is the time.

Can't wait to see what Lance has in store for BYV.  Maybe he should have an "All Falls Count As A Win For Lance Storm" match.  Those are popular in Europe.

Hey Booker?  I think your balls rolled under the ring... might uh... wanna get those...

Oh snap bitch.  I don't think it'll be long now before Booker revues the tape.

Moore wasn't going to beat the fallen angel tonight.  I could see Moore maybe becoming a major player in the x title scene in the future, but that's then and this is now.

The plot thickenz!~!  Orton better know what he's doing because he's covered in gasoline and playing with fire right now.

Edge & Storm mean business.  I'm still thinking tonight may not be the night though, but I'll be hoping that it is.

Heehee, Kid Kash is a shrimp costume was great.  Poor D-Ray is back to getting brutalized though.  The krill is strong in this one!

At first glance Chris Benoit wins.  But I'm thinking that someone is going to shine at BYV and take the upset.  The question is Smith or Kazarian.  Frankly, I'm hoping for a Kazarian win, then when Benoit tries to provide praise Kazarian spits in his face.

Poor Chioda.  Chioda kept control of the match about as well as I can keep control of a room full of 4 year olds at work. :)

*peasants rejoice!*  Woo!  Storm and Edge take it!  Awesomeness.  Here's hoping for a good run from the duo, though I imagine at some point their egos will clash and they'll self destruct, but still.

Goodness tonight.

More goodness to be had at the PPV and I imagine on the way to the PPV as well.
