[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 1/23/06

Snabbit888Posted on 02/06/07 at 06:44:41

Just one day removed from Winter Warfare, the superstars of GCW were in Kansas City, Missouri at the Kemper Arena for Monday Night Explosion! On tonight's card, the main event would be for the World Tag Team Titles as Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle defend against the former 4-time champions, the World's Greatest Tag Team! Also, the Blue World Order, after being destroyed by an angry Monty Brown a night ago, have foolishly challenged the Alpha Male, so the handicap match has been signed! In addition, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Booker T will look to work out their differences as they're on the Cutting Edge! All that and more on Monday Night Explosion!

THE CORPORATION PUTS OUT THEIR AGENDA
The show kicked off with John Bradshaw Layfield, Bobby Lashley, and the World's Greatest Tag Team making their way to the ring. Having come out on the losing end of War Games last night thanks to the mutiny of one of their former running mates, the Corporation was in a foul mood. JBL went off on a long-winded tirade about Randy Orton, telling him that he saved his career that was going nowhere fast and that he was entitled Orton's loyalty. This brought out Orton himself, who explained to JBL in no uncertain terms that he is nobody's lackey. JBL and Orton bickered back and forth, eventually leading to Orton challenging JBL to a match tonight, but JBL instead gave the match to Bobby Lashley. The World Tag Team champions, BROCK LESNAR and KURT ANGLE came out after this and taunted both men. JBL told Lesnar and Angle to laugh it up, because by the end of the night, the World Tag Team Titles would be back in the possession of the Corporation's Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. The segment ended with a lot of tension between everyone involved.

Match #1
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (X champion)/Frankie "The Future" Kazarian/"Bulldog" Harry Smith (w/ Chris Benoit) vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper/MNM (w/ Melina)
The action opened with a fast-paced six-man tag match as the X champion Christopher Daniels teamed with Chris Benoit's protégé's, Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith, to take on Elix Skipper and MNM, flanked as always by Melina. The Crippler made an appearance at ringside, lending words of advice to his trainees. Kazarian looked more willing to be a team player tonight, making frequent tags to both Daniels and Smith and looking refreshed. That didn't mean they were having an easy time though, as Skipper and MNM brought it to the table as well. The match could have gone either way, but the moment swung late when Kazarian as caught with an errant thumb. Daniels was cut off by MNM as Harry Smith got caught with the Play of the Day for the win.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) and Elix Skipper defeated Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith when Skipper pinned Smith with the Play of the Day in 0:09:46.
Rating: *** ¾

Post match, Benoit gave Kazarian an earful, telling him that he should have got in there to save his partner. Kazarian tried to explain that he was temporarily blinded, but Benoit wanted none of his excuses and left in a huff.

Match #2
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash (w/ Lance Hoyt)
Though the crowd got a good laugh out of seeing Kid Kash dressed up like a shrimp (along with Lance Hoyt dressed like a giant fish) to wrestle this match against AJ Styles, it would be the Phenomenal One who would end up not laughing by the end. The constant laughing and taunting by both the fans and Styles in Kash's direction eventually was too much, leading to Kash deliberately hitting a low blow on Styles for the obvious disqualification. Kash continued the assault after ripping the shrimp suit off, grabbing a steel chair and knocking Styles clean out with it. SHARK BOY and D-RAY 3000 ran in to try to save, but they were promptly dispatched of by Hoyt before they could get in the ring. Officials finally broke this up, but the look of pure insanity on Kash's face was evident.

AJ Styles defeated Kid Kash by disqualification in 0:03:02.
Rating: ***

Match #3
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. The Blue World Order
For some reason that not even the most brilliant of scholars can figure out, the Blue World Order demanded to have a match with Monty Brown, who decimated them in short order in a rage after being screwed over by Lance Storm and Edge. Tonight was a replay of last night in the decimation of the bWo - but this time, it was an official match. Both Richards and the Meanie received the Pounce before putting this one away. After the match, Brown grabbed the mic and in his short and sweet fashion, let Edge know that he was going to feel the Pounce... PERIOD.

Monty Brown defeated The bWo (The Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards) when M. Brown pinned Meanie with the Pounce in 0:01:00.
Rating: * 1/4

THE CUTTING EDGE - SPECIAL GUESTS: BOOKER T, REY MYSTERIO JR., AND SHARMELL
One normally wouldn't think of Edge as being a facilitator to bring together a tag team that is falling apart at the seams, but he and his brothel would look to do that as the guests on the Cutting Edge were Booker T, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Sharmell. Booker did most of the talking early, blaming Mysterio for their loss a night ago against MNM, although in actuality it was Sharmell's interference that led to Mysterio being pinned. Mysterio finally cut Booker off and asked that the truck show the video of just how he lost the match last night. The video started up, but before anything could be shown, Sharmell ended the interview and ushered Booker out of there. Nothing solved, and Booker is still in the dark.

Match #4
Abyss/Rhyno vs. "The Alabama Slamma" Hardcore Holly/"The Phenom" Ken Doane
Abyss and Rhyno were a bit worse for wear after being on the winning side of War Games last night, but that didn't stop them from bringing the intensity into this tag team contest against the ever tumultuous team of Hardcore Holly and Ken Doane. Doane was not at all happy to be in this match with two beasts like Abyss and Rhyno, and he showed it by cowering for most of this match. Holly, on the other hand, embraces fights like this and went at it full steam ahead. Many were impressed with how long the Alabama Slamma lasted in this match, considering who he was going up against and how little he was assisted by Doane. However, it was just a matter of time before the Gore was delivered and Holly was pinned.

Abyss and Rhyno defeated Ken Doane and Hardcore Holly when Rhyno pinned H. Holly with the Gore in 0:07:20.
Rating: ** 1/4

CM PUNK EXPLAINS HIS ASSAULTS ON ROB VAN DAM
CM Punk and Daffney joined us from the locker room for an interview, and Punk finally gave us a little insight as to why he has been so ruthless in his attacks on Rob Van Dam. Punk explained that it was simple - RVD is a bad person. Punk explained that he lived his life by following the StraightEdge - work hard, no drinking, no drugs. While not going into specifics, Punk made it clear that the activities that RVD participates outside of the ring are widely known, and they most certainly don't represent the views of the StraightEdge. Punk ended by saying that until RVD changes his ways, he is going to be punished.

Match #5
On Commentary: John Bradshaw Layfield
Randy Orton vs. Bobby Lashley
JBL joined Joey Styles and Paul Heyman down at ringside to watch his hitman, Bobby Lashley, destroy who he described as a traitor, Randy Orton. Orton wasn't at all intimidated by Lashley, but his arrogance did lead to him getting his ass kicked, surely enough. JBL was verbally tearing Orton to shreds during the whole contest, but he was becoming more and more incensed as every time that Orton was on the receiving end of Lashley's offense, Orton kept getting back up and flipping JBL off at ringside. Eventually JBL couldn't take it any more and he jumped in the ring and assaulted Orton. Orton won the match, but he was on the receiving of a double team beating from two of the hardest hitters in GCW. JBL and Lashley left Orton laid out and left the ring quite happy, but when they got to the top of he ramp and turned around to admire their work, they were greeted by Orton flipping them off. Orton may go down, but he's not going down quietly.

Randy Orton defeated Bobby Lashley by disqualification in 0:10:43. Rating: ** 1/4

THE HOOLIGANS PLAY SOME FOOSBALL
Doug Williams and Paul Burchill continue their string of "friendly" competitions this week in another installment of "The Hooligans." Football and soccer have been unsuccessful in proving who the better man is, so tonight they tried their hand at foosball. Needless to say, Burchill is far superior when it comes to foosball. Williams couldn't help but get more and more pissed off, especially since as Burchill's lead got bigger, Burchill began dancing. Eventually, Burchill jigged one too many times and received a hard slap upside the head. Predictably, the fight was on, and the segment ended with Williams and Burchill destroying each other (and the bar). Sigh.

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
World Tag Team Title Match
Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle © vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
The final match of the evening was the World's Greatest Tag Team's possible last chance at regaining the World Tag Team Titles as they took on the reigning champions, the World champion Brock Lesnar and the Intercontinental champion Kurt Angle. As has been a theme in the short tag title reign of the champs, despite their individual skill levels, for much of this match, they were outwrestled. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin are simply a more polished team, and they used that to overcome Lesnar and Angle for much of this contest. The momentum was firmly in the WGTT's grasp, but later in the contest, Lesnar and Angle got it together and had big MO on their side. It wasn't long before Haas was up on Lesnar's shoulders and brought to the canvas with the F-5.

Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) when Lesnar pinned C. Haas with the F-5 in 0:14:31.
Rating: ***
(Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

No time to rest on their laurels for the champs as LANCE STORM and EDGE were in the ring in a hurry, taking Lesnar off guard and beating him with a double team. Angle looked to make the save, but he was cut off by JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD who came out of nowhere to take the IC champ's head off with Stock Markey Crash! JBL was proud of himself, until RANDY ORTON put him down to close out the show with a wicked chair shot! We went off the air with Orton standing over JBL and Angle, holding the chair, and Lance Storm & Edge continuing their assault on the World champion.

aw damn it.  this means i actually have to do some work around here.   :P  one thing at a time.  feedback first.

Nice hot kick off to the show post PPV.

Kazarian can't catch a break.  Smith is in.  Kazarian, whether he tries or not, seems to be on the way out thanks to the cruel mistress Fate.

Haha.  silly costumes = ratings.

Poor bWo.  They need to strengthen their forces me thinks if they want to get anywhere.

Rhyno & Abyss make a terrifying team.  That could be a painfully awesome combination in the tag division.

haha, officially rooting for Punk.  Way to blur the lines Ryan.  ::)

Orton better know what he's doing here.  Or it's going to cost him hard.

Haha.  Love.  Hooligan.  Segments.

I had to expect that the titles would be retained.  Eventually, I think WGTT is going to get the straps back by hook or crook, but tonight wasn't going to be the night.

Good as always whore.
