Pre-Game Show Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles/"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua)
Our match for the pre-game show was tag team action pitting AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson against the Basham Brothers. There have been a lot of rumors circulating about the future of the American Dragon, and they were told to be true as this will be Danielson's last night in GCW for the foreseeable future as he has chose to pursue other opportunities, presumably wanting to wrestle in Japan. The crowd was smart to this and gave AmDrag a great response throughout this short, but good match. Unfortunately for Danielson, he couldn't go out on a winning note as the Ball and Gag Bomb on Styles put this one in the books.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson when Danny Basham pinned Styles after the Ball And Gag Bomb in 0:05:47.
Rating: ****

Bryan Danielson received a great round of applause as he thanked the fans and vowed to return one day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Savvis Center was rockin' as the first pay-per-view of 2006 aired LIVE from St. Louis, Missouri! Tonight at WINTER WARFARE, it is literally going to be war as our main event is WAR GAMES. It will be World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, North American champion Kurt Angle (collectively also the World Tag Team champions), Rhyno, Abyss, and Chris Benoit taking on the Corporation - John Bradshaw Layfield, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, and the World's Greatest Tag Team! A lot of other grudges will be settled as well as Rey Mysterio Jr. and Booker T meet MNM, Rob Van Dam goes one-on-one with CM Punk, Christopher Daniels defends the X Title against Elix Skipper, and Lance Storm puts his any stipulations match he earned for winning Best of the Best on the line against the man he screwed in the finals, "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown! All that and more!

Match #1
Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk (w/ Daffney)
The feud that has been building between Rob Van Dam and CM Punk is an intriguing one as so far, Punk has refused to make any kind of public comments about why he has this vendetta against the Whole F'n Show. The only thing Punk has done (other than the beatdowns, of course) is cryptically set RVD's gym bag on fire at the top of the ramp a couple weeks back on Explosion. The contents of the bag have not been determined, though there is a lot of speculation going around the internet as to what RVD was so upset about being destroyed. Van Dam didn't care about getting answers in this one - he cared about kicking ass, and for most of this match, that's exactly what he did. RVD used his educated feet to keep Punk off-balance, and there seemed to be little that Punk could do to slow RVD down - without a steel chair, that is. Punk's main goal wasn't a victory, and he showed that when out of desperation he busted RVD open with a chair for the disqualification. Punk seemed happy with leaving RVD laid out, and though he threatened otherwise, he left without inflicting any further damage. Needless to say, this one is far from over.

Rob Van Dam defeated CM Punk by disqualification in 0:07:43.
Rating: ** 3/4

Match #2
Booker T/Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ Sharmell) vs. MNM (w/ Melina)
A lot of interesting stories in this next match. The feud between Booker T & Rey Mysterio Jr. and MNM has been ongoing since MNM made their debut in GCW (at the time, Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury). Now, Nitro and new partner Shannon Moore are looking to get their World Tag Team Title shot that they are owed from winning Tag Team Turmoil in November. So far, that hasn't been granted as they have been having all kinds of problems with Booker and Mysterio. They have spawned even further as Melina has been taking out her aggressions on poor hapless Maria, to which Booker and Mysterio have come to her aid time and time again. If this situation wasn't confusing enough, Booker's wife Sharmell seems convinced that Booker's partnership with Mysterio is holding him back. Booker hasn't wanted to talk about it, and they looked to be all business tonight as this match started. Some people like to say that tag team wrestling in American is dead, but I'd beg to differ after watching this match. The tag team wrestling was at its finest as both squads wrestled extremely well. If there was any roughness in the relationship of Booker and Mysterio, you couldn't tell from their teamwork. That is, until the end of the match, but it wasn't Booker and Mysterio who would have problems, but rather Mysterio and Sharmell. Booker had been receiving quite a beating, but he bought some time and made the hot tag to Mysterio, who was taking care of business. Mysterio had Moore in position for the West Coast Pop, but Sharmell grabbed Mysterio's foot. Mysterio was shocked and didn't know how to react, but this distraction allowed MNM to recover and hit him with the Snapshot, giving MNM the win.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) defeated Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. when Nitro pinned Mysterio Jr. after the Snapshot in 0:11:11.
Rating: **** 1/2

Booker T had still been too groggy to see what had happened, so Booker's reaction to Mysterio's post-match complaints was one of anger. They didn't come to blows, but mostly because Sharmell quickly ushered Booker away, Booker yelling the entire time that Mysterio dropped the ball and that he was the weak link of the team.

Match #3
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper
This is a match that has been a long time coming between former founding members of Triple X with Christopher Daniels defending the X Title against Elix Skipper. Skipper has been one of the hottest wrestlers in GCW in recent months, and holds a pinfall victory over Daniels in the Best of the Best tournament (the X Title was not on the line). Daniels' took the holiday break to get some much needed rest for some nagging injuries, and it allowed him to go full blast and give us a fantastic representation of what the X division is all about. The match was mixed with great mat wrestling, high-flying action, and counters galore. These two know each other so well and when both men are healthy, they are so evenly matched. This was evidenced by the fact that when the 20-minute time limit was reached, a winner had not been declared and this match finished in a time limit draw. The crowd, as well as champion and challenger, both demanded 5 more minutes, but it was not granted and we will have to wait for a rematch between these two, one that I am looking forward to.

Elix Skipper and Christopher Daniels battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

Match #4
If Shark Boy/D-Ray 3000 win, Kid Kash & Lance Hoyt have to dress as a shrimp and fish respectively on Explosion
Shark Boy/D-Ray 3000 vs. Kid Kash/Lance Hoyt
Although the antics of Shark Boy and D-Ray 3000 have successfully entertained the fans, two men who have been less than amused are Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt, who have repeatedly been attacked by seafood (this is not a typo). Kash and Hoyt have had enough and they wanted to get their hands on Sharkie and D-Ray at all costs, and that cost ended up being this match - if Kash and Hoyt lost, they'd have to dress as a shrimp and fish respectively tomorrow night on Explosion. This match was one-sided in that Kash and Hoyt pummeled Sharkie and Hoyt from pillar to post, and the thought of having a shrimp-clad Kash and a fish-clad Hoyt was fading away quickly. That is, until Kash's ego got the better of him and despite Hoyt's protests, Kash wouldn't go for the cover and instead beat Shark Boy down. Hoyt was practically begging Kash to put him away, but it was too late as Shark Boy caught Kash with a crucifix after a distraction from D-Ray and the faces picked up the win.

D-Ray 3000 and Shark Boy defeated Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt when D-Ray pinned Kash after a crucifix in 0:04:46
. Rating: *** 3/4

Kid Kash was in shocked as the crowd popped huge. Kash was nearly in tears in the ring as he threw a fit, but the fact remains that Hoyt and he lost and there will be some giant marine life on Explosion tomorrow.

CHRIS BENOIT GIVES FRANKIE KAZARIAN A CRITIQUE
Just before their training match, Chris Benoit was with his two trainees, Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith, to discuss the upcoming match and to talk about the tag team match from a week ago. Benoit started with Smith and gave him a lot of positive feedback, saying that he held his own for his first match in the big time and that he sees nothing but potential in the Bulldog. When the Crippler got to Kazarian though, he was much harder on him, noting how Kazarian didn't show great teamwork and that he took his eye off the ball which is what led him to being pinned against MNM. Benoit told the Future he needs to have his head in the game and it starts tonight. Kazarian didn't look happy, but he bit his lip and took the criticism. Benoit then told them to get out there and put on a great match, and may the best man win.

Match #5
Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. "Bulldog" Harry Smith
Chris Benoit told Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith to put on a great match, and that they did. Both men had a lot on the line in this one - Smith is highly untested on this stage and an impressive showing on pay-per-view would show he's here to stay. Kazarian feels like his standing with Benoit is slipping away and he needs a win here to show he's still the prize pupil. The main difference in this match between these two highly talented individuals was that Smith was able to take the pressure of the match and stay cool, while Kazarian wrestled stiff and like he was trying not to lose instead of trying to win. As a result, he didn't win as the Bulldog hit the Stampede Powerslam and picked up his first PPV victory.

Harry Smith pinned Frankie Kazarian with the Stampede Powerslam in 0:09:55.
Rating: *** 1/2

Match #6
Best of the Best Any Stipulations Match on the Line
Lance Storm vs. "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown
Lance Storm has a remarkable win/loss record against Monty Brown, which is something a lot of people can't say, but all of his wins have come under questionable circumstances. Because of this, Commissioner Tommy Dream has forced Storm, the Best of the Best winner, to wrestle the Alpha Male one more time, putting the Best of the Best prize on the line. Storm doesn't show a lot of emotion, but he couldn't have been happy having to face such an angry opponent, especially with the right to have any match he wants at Beat Your Valentine. Early on in the match, the plan was for Edge to get involved to help Storm win as he has many times in the past. Edge did get involved, nailing Brown when he was on the floor, but referee Mike Chioda made a great decision and rather than calling the match right there, he sent Edge to the back and the match had to continue! So much for that plan. From there Storm did his best to slow Brown down by working the knees, but the Alpha Male was like a rabid animal as he tore through the former Intercontinental champion. Storm tried to escape on the outside but Brown went after him, nailing him with a huge clothesline and throwing him back in the ring. While the ref checked on Storm, EDGE was back out of nowhere to hit the Alpha Male with the Spear into the ringsteps! Just as quickly as he had showed his face, Edge was gone again as Chioda laid the count on Brown, counting him out and allowing Storm to keep his match for next month.

Lance Storm defeated Monty Brown by countout in 0:09:16.

THE BLUE WORLD ORDER TRIES TO TAKE OVER YET AGAIN
As the ring crew was setting up the double cage for War Games, STEVIE RICHARDS and THE BLUE MEANIE took this as an opportunity to "take over" once again. From the backstage area, they said they were going to march out to the ring and make themselves a part of the main event. However, as they went to make their journey to the ring, an enraged MONTY BROWN, who was just screwed moments before against Lance Storm, took out his aggressions as he came through the curtain, annihilating the bWo in short order. Officials tried to calm Brown down, but he took it out on them as well, certainly earning himself a fine in the process.

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
War Games
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion)/Kurt Angle (Intercontinental champion)/Rhyno/Abyss/"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. John Bradshaw Layfield/Bobby Lashley/Randy Orton/The World's Greatest Tag Team (w/ Lamont)
Our main event was much anticipated as two teams, ten men, and one grudge looked to be settled in War Games. There were a lot of disputes to be settled, and the match kicked off with Chris Benoit representing his team and Charlie Haas representing the Corporation. The opening 5 minutes of this contest didn't really utilize the cage, as Benoit and Haas are two of the highly acclaimed mat wrestlers in GCW. For the first 5 minutes, Benoit and Haas wrestled through both rings. That is, until it was time for the cage door to open and Intercontinental and ½ of the tag team champions KURT ANGLE made his way into the ring. Fun for the fans; not as fun for the Corporation or Charlie Haas.

Haas was in a bad way until the 2 minute period ended and JBL sent in SHELTON BENJAMIN, putting the World's Greatest Tag Team in to start the match. There is no question that Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, both former World champions, are two of the elite, but as a team, they had some troubles meshing here. Considering in the two years of GCW's existence, Benoit and Angle have been foe far longer than they have been friend. This allowed the WGTT to have the distinct advantage for the next two minutes, using their tag team skills that have garnered them the World Tag Team Titles on 4 occasions. The tide swung once again though when RHYNO came in as the third man for team Lesnar/Angle, hitting a double Gore on both members of the World's Greatest Tag Team.

It's probably a lucky thing for the Corporation that the match couldn't end until everyone got into the ring, because Haas and Benjamin were PUMMELED. Benoit, Angle, and Rhyno all took turns taking shots at them. When the next period end, JBL felt the desperation and sent in his enforcer, BOBBY LASHLEY, to turn things around, and that's exactly what he did. Benoit, Angle, and Rhyno all took their shots, but there was no stopping the former collegiate champion and undefeated Lashley, who powered through all of his adversaries. Everyone but Lashley was down on the canvas when the next period ended and in came ABYSS. The crowd was buzzing as Abyss stood up to Lashley and Lashley didn't back down an inch before the two animals went at it. Neither man could knock the other down. Lashley kept charging at Abyss with clotheslines but couldn't take him off his feet. He went for one more clothesline, but Abyss ducked and when Lashley bounced back, he was driven into the mat with the Black Hole Slam!

I believe the original plan by JBL was to be the last member of his team to enter the ring. When he saw Lashley for the first time look to be in serious trouble, he jumped the gun a bit and shoved Orton out of the way, knocking him into the guardrail before jumping in the ring. Orton looked a bit beefed, especially when JBL was immediately flattened by a triple German suplex from Angle followed by a trifecta from Benoit as well. From here, the fights continued until the last man from the face team, the World Heavyweight champion BROCK LESNAR entered a house of fire. The ring belonged to Lesnar until the final period ended and RANDY ORTON was to enter, but instead, he merely stood on the outside and watched.

The action swayed back and forth, which is a credit to the Corporation since Orton wasn't getting in the ring. Every time JBL wasn't getting beaten on, he was yelling at Orton to get in the ring, but Orton did nothing. The Corporation, largely due to Lashley's skills, looked like somehow they were going to pull out the victory as all of the face team was down. JBL was looking to nail Lesnar with the Stock Market Crash, but Orton jumped in the ring and took him down with the R.K.O.! JBL was OUT, and this was the beginning of the end as Team Lesnar/Angle rebounded and the Ankle Lock on Shelton Benjamin put this one in the books.

War Games Match:
Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Abyss, Chris Benoit and Rhyno defeated The Corporation (Bobby Lashley, Charlie Haas, John Bradshaw Layfield, Randy Orton and Shelton Benjamin) when K. Angle made S. Benjamin submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:41:15.
Rating: **** 1/4

The show ended with Orton leaving the ring with a huge smirk on his face at what he had done in the ring. But the real question is why? A simple push from JBL doesn't seem like a justified reason for turning on the leader of the Corporation. So what is it? We hope to find out tomorrow on Explosion! Goodnight everyone!

Sad to see Danielson go.  Bashams obviously go out on top to send AmDrag off.

Loving the Punk/RVD angle.  Fills me with mixed emotions about who to root for.

Booksterio is crumbling and it's all that harpy's fault!  *shakes fist in rage-filled manner*

Awww... time limit draw?  What is this?  the 50s?  :P  At least it means another meeting between the two.  Not bad by any means.

Best. Stipulation. Ever.  They just HAD to win.  There was no way you'd pass up an opportunity involving sea life costumes.

Frankie was the future, now it looks like he's the past.  Bulldog looks like he may go places.  Not sure if those places reach beyond the midcard, but still. ;)

Glad to see Storm win and keep the stip.  Brown isn't going to let anything rest though.  Edge and probably Lance Storm again too are going to have to watch it.

Poor bWo.

And the plot thickenz!~  Can't wait to find out Orton's real reasoning.  Things are going to get in... in where you ask?  Intense.  Yeah... i went there.
