GLWF Action TV: 1/7/06...

americamamushiPosted on 11/17/06 at 22:51:39

Welcome one and all to the very first edition of GLWF Action TV for 2006!  It's a new year and tonight we hope to start off 2006 with as big of a bang as we ended 2005 with!  We've got four matches lined up which include two title bouts.  One will see Alex Shelley defending the Television title against Harry Smith in the semi-main event and in the main event we'll have one more encounter between Heavyweight Champion Samoa Joe and "The Once and Future King" Michael Shane where managers will be banned from ringside in hopes of finally laying this one to rest once and for all in a good old fashion wrestling match like their wrestling forefathers before them!  Along with those two great encounters we'll see a Hardcore match between Josh Abercrombie and Shannon Moore and if Shannon losses he's out of GLWF for good.  Plus we've got an exciting surprise that is sure to shake things up for GLWF in 2006.  But first lets get down to the ring for our first match of the evening!

Roadkill vs. "The HYPE" Jimmy Shalwin

One thing that GLWF likes to try and do from time to time is showcase an independent worker from the Great Lakes and North Eastern regions of the country in hopes of helping them get noticed by the brass up GCW and possibly offered a developemental contract of their own.  Tonight Jimmy Shalwin was brought in for just such a reason.  Despite the arrogant manner in which he carries himself, he's talented.  Shalwin had a tough opponent tonight in Roadkill who has shown in the past that while he seems like a cuddly Amish teddybear sometimes, he's got a mean streak almost as large as his poultry fetish.  Shalwin tried to tell the fans to "Believe the HYPE!" but once he mocked Roadkill by strutting around clucking and pecking at the mat Roadkill snapped and tore into him like he was in a bucket and made out of eleven herbs and spices.  Shalwin tried to turns things around with a blatant low blow which caused Roadkill to fall over, but when he went up stairs for the HYPErsault Roadkill quickly got to his feet, yanked him onto his shoulders and hit the Barn Burner for three.

Roadkill pinned Jimmy Shalwin after the Barn Burner in 0:03:41.

Hardcore Match: Josh Abercrombie vs. "Public Enemy #1" Shannon Moore

This match was make it or break it for Shannon Moore as far as his career in the GLWF goes.  A loss here sends him packing for good.  Abercrombie and Shannon Moore have a history and it isn't a pleasant one.  One could actually place the blaim on Abercrombie as to why Cornette really looked to Shannon Moore in the first place.  At any rate he certainly never helped matters.  Things started off slow, but it didn't take long for the pace to pick up.  Surprisingly these two brought more of a brawl to the table than a high flying spectacle which seemed to not be what the fans expected.  They were just going at it like two guys in a bar.  You couldn't even tell this was a hardcore match until the halfway point when Shannon went digging for toys under the ring.  He found a trash can but got it dropkicked in his face before he could do anything with it.  Abercrombie placed the can over Shannon's head and sent him into the corner post.  After that Abercrombie got on a slight roll until he went up top with a chair and threw it to Shannon.  A dazed Shannon Moore caught it and Abercrombie tried to missile dropkick the thing right into Shannon's face, but Moore gained his composure and dodged the flying dropkick.  Shannon answered with a dropkick with the chair to Abercrombie's face before he could get back up which got him a two count.  At the end of the match a table had been brought into the ring by Shannon and both men were on top of it.  Shannon was trying to piledrive Abercrombie threw it, but Abercrombie was blocking his attempts.  The started duking it out on top of the table until Abercrombie got the advantage!  Abercrombie hits a right that spins Shannon a quarter turn and Abercrombie grabs Shannon and jumps off!  TALIBAN BACKPACK OFF THE TABLE!  One!  Two!  Three!!

[Hardcore Match]: No-Countout-No-DQ-Match:
Josh Abercrombie pinned Shannon Moore with the Taliban Backpack in 0:11:50.

Clara Michaels is in the ring with the microphone, but says before she introduces the contestants for the Television title match it's time to make the special announcement that is sure to rock GLWF's world to start off 2006... and that is the GLWF's newly appointed commissioner!  It's right then that we hear over the PA "Well, well, well!  If it isn't I... the quintessential studmiffun himself..." he finally appears from behind the curtain. "Joel 'When I used to be a baker, my pasteries tasted like a dream, but even after I quit that job the ladies STILL line up for my cream'.... GERTNER!" It's Joel Gertner!  The Quintessential Studmuffin is not only in the GLWF, he's the new commissioner!  Joel makes his way down to the ring in all his neckbraced-smoking-jacket-with-no-shirt-under-it glory and eats up the approval of the fans.  "For my first order of business I'd like to say that thanks to Josh Abercrombie, Shannon Moore is no longer employed by the GLWF!" fans cheer. "So now you can go join your butt buddy Johnny Nitro on Explosion full-time." Pause for crowd reaction. "And I hate to bruise your mood but my next order of business isn't quite as joyful.  You see..." Joel is interupted by Harry Smith's music as he makes his way down to the ring.  Smith gets in the ring and asks for a microphone of his own.  Gertner says that as long as Harry Smith is out here that Alex Shelley might as well join them because this involves him as well.  Shelley makes his way down the aisle and gets in the ring too, TV title hanging on his shoulder.  Smith says that Shelley got lucky because he won't be putting his title on the line against him tonight.  Shelley is a little confused, but Joel assures him that Smith is telling the truth.  Gertner says that GCW has called up Harry Smith and that he won't be wrestling tonight, but we'll still have a TV title match.  Smith brought a replacement to the arena with him tonight and since Gertner found all of this information out on such short notice he had no choice but to use the man that Harry Smith brought with him.  "So without any further ado... your opponent tonight Alex... "The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams!"  Harry Smith gets a smug grin on his face as Petey Williams makes his way to the ring.  Shelley doesn't look to happy about this, but isn't going to back down.

GLWF Television title match: "The Canadian Destroyer" Petey Williams vs. Alex Shelley (c).

Harry Smith stayed at ringside for the match and he definitely isn't there to do Shelley any favors.  Williams and Shelley started off with some exchanges that saw things ending in a draw.  Shelley got the better of a few fairly and then Williams got the better of a few doing the exact opposite.  He tried for an early Canadian Destroyer, but Shelley easily saw it coming and avoided it.  Petey Williams was all about trying to go at Shelley 110mph (Well... about a 177kph for Petey) but Shelley was wrestling smarter than that as he had much more to lose.  He had, after all, only found out he was facing Petey Williams a matter of moments ago.  He didn't want to get himself into any sort of situations that he might regret.  He was taking a risk or two, but he definitely wasn't taking big and possibly stupid ones.  So far Harry Smith hadn't done any thing to help his fellow Canadian defeat the Television champion, though his presence alone was a distraction to Alex.  Petey tries for an asai moonsault bodyblock but Shelley catches him and hits a reverse piledriver!  Williams is out and Smith is stunned!  Smith pops up on the apron causing a distraction as Shelley goes for the pin.  When Shelley notices no one is counting he joins the ref, jawing at Harry Smith giving Petey Williams tome enough to recover and hit a big lowblow behind the refs back which he follows with the Canadian Destroyer!  The ref turns around... one... two... three!  We have a new Television champion!  Harry Smith celebrates with Petey in the ring, placing the belt around his waist and carrying him around the ring on his shoulders.

Petey Williams pinned Alex Shelley with the Canadian Destroyer in 0:08:36.

Main Event for the Great Lakes Heavyweight title with managers banned from ringside: "The Once and Future King" Michael Shane vs. Samoa Joe (c)

Tonight was finally the one that would hopefully end it all.  One finaly epic meeting between the Heavyweight champion Samoa Joe and the former Heavyweight champion Michael Shane.  Two men who have defined GLWF over the past year.  Two men who have set the bar of the Great Lakes Heavyweight title scene quite high.  One more match.  One more chance for glory over their long time foe.  Just two men. No gimmick match, no hardcore rules, just two men wrestling the way that the father's of pro wrestling had intended.  There would be no Chris Masters.  There would be no Traci Brooks.  There would just be Samoa Joe and Michael Shane and the fans were chomping at the bit to see them wrestle in one more clash of the GLWF titans.  They messured eachother up and each tried for a test of strength, but neither liked the other's terms of engagement so despite the effort, the test never transpired.  The tie up.  Joe forces Shane back to the turnbuckle and Shane reverses it once they're there.  The ref asks for a clean break and surprisingly gets one.  They do so again, and another clean break from Michael Shane.  Even Joe seems confused, but Michael Shane tells him "No excuses this time Joe."  They continue with some basic hold exchanges, which gradually build.  Growing in pace and intensity.  Joe gets the upperhand with some stiff kicks and Shane goes tumbling through the ropes to the outside.  Joe follows him out and tries to lock on the Kokina Clutch while Shane is still standing, but Shane avoids the hold and gets back into the ring.  Both men were wrestling a crisp match which saw Michael Shane trying to work over Samoa Joe's arms so that if Joe did manage to lock in the Kokina Clutch that he wouldn't be able to hold it as tightly if he could do enough damage.  Samoa Joe just tried to overwhelm Shane with power and strikes, deciding that instead of focusing on a particular body part, he'd just focus on the whole thing.  The battle raged on.  Joe hit a big DVD!  But Shane kicks out at two.  Joe follows it with a spinebuster, but only gets two again.  Joe tries for a rana, but Shane spikes him down hard on his neck with a powerbomb for a two count of his own.  Now Shane tries for a rana.  He goes down, but Joe pulls him back up in a powerbomb position and pushes him over his head and over the top rope to the floor!  Joe takes a quick breather and follows him out to bring him back into the ring.  Just as he's about to throw Shane back in Shane manages to hit a drop toe hold and Joe crashes face first into the edge of the ring!  They came close to being counted out, but both made it back into the ring before the referee got to 10.  Joe and Shane started exchanging punches and Shane was getting the better of it until Joe hit a huge CSS Enzuigiri out of no where.  The ref got to 7 as both men laid on the mat.  They got up at the same time and Joe tried for another CSS Enzuigiri but Shane ducked!  Shane quickly grabs Joe... Piledriver!  Shane goes for the Picture Perfect Elbow... AND HITS IT DEAD CENTER!  It's gotta be all over now... one... two... thr-KICKOUT!  Samoa Joe just kicked out of a perfectly executed Picture Perfect Elbow and Michael Shane is utterly stunned!  He can't believe it.  He refuses to believe it.  He starts back in on Samoa Joe, but he gave him a lot of time to recover and it isn't long before Samoa Joe is getting the upperhand, Joe is making a comeback and the fans are going crazy!  He whips Shane into the corner, but Shane reverses it and Joe hits chest first and hits hard.  Shane rushes in and tries for a tornado DDT on the stunned Samoan.  He executes it... but Joe lands Shane on his feet and spins him back up on to the turnbuckle... he's got the muscle buster!  AND HE NAILS IT!  ONE!  TWO!  THREE!

(Samoa Joe retained the Great Lakes Heavyweight title.)

What a night it has been!  We've got a new Television champion and Samoa Joe has definitively defeated Michael Shane and retained his Great Lakes Heavyweight title.  We've got a great start to 2006 and it can only get better from here.  Next week we'll see Mr. Kennedy in action, we'll see Sonny Siaki in action for the first time since he "got his groove back" so to speak and in the main event Los Corazones Negros defending their tag team titles against Ernest Miller & Rene Dupree and Team No Fear!  We'll see you next week!

I believe the HYPE!  Except when Roadkill crushed him.

Good brawl to send Moore off officially into GCW again.  A vicious move to end the night.  But Moore didn't hit Raven... so who did?

Gertner!  And he's commish!  And Petey debuts in GLWF because I have nothing for him in GCW right now! :)

Sweet debut for Petey as we have a brand new Television champion.  He's already had more success in GLWF than he was having in GCW. :)  Cool way to send Smith to GCW, even though he'll be a face there.

Great main event, and a perfect blow off to that feud with Joe getting his definitive victory over Michael Shane.  2006 is gonna be the bee's knees!

Jimmy Shalwin... fantasy guy?

No surprise that Moore is out.. but it didn't look like a hardcore environment was right for these guys.

Petey new television champ? Wow. Guess he and Smith has traded places, so to speak.

And a definite 5-star rating to your main-event, for your writing. Really good writing, Chris, kudos for that. If there was one match in the GLWF history that deserved a thorough description, it was this.

Can't wait to see who Joe's next challenger will be.
