{NAPW} Throwdown Thursday 11/10/2005

suicidalbynaturePosted on 08/10/06 at 08:16:39

The 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland is sold out for New American Pro Wrestling's second edition of Throwdown Thursday! Tonight promises to be even more explosive than last week as a huge main event has been signed. John Cena and Scott Steiner will team up against the tandem of Ken Shamrock and Goldust. These four men made it known that the Heavyweight Title is their ultimate goal so it will be interesting to see how they cooperate as tag teams. Speaking of titles the other two quarterfinal matches for the Intercontinental Tag Team Titles will go down tonight. The Second City Saints will battle Da Hit Squad in one contest while Low Ki will begin his quest for a second title here in NAPW when he teams up with Homicide to take on KENTA and Xavier, the final two men Low Ki defeated to win the Internet Title. Also tonight: BJ Whitmer takes on Val Venis, Christian Cage battles Carlito and a four corners match between Jeff Jarrett, Steve Corino, Jeff Hardy and Chris Sabin. Let's get right to the ring for our first match!

Match One
Intercontinental Tag Team Titles Tournament Quarterfinal Match
KENTA/Xavier
Vs
The Rottweilers (Homicide/Low Ki [Internet Champion])

I don't think the outcome of this match was ever really in question. While KENTA and Xavier are two extremely talented singles wrestlers they just weren't able to mesh. The Rottweilers lived up to their name, coming right after their opponents from the opening bell. KENTA may be the one man in this company that can exchange kicks and forearms smashes with Low Ki but it just wasn't meant to be tonight. In the closing minutes of the match Low Ki hit the koppo kick and followed it up with the Ki Krusher. Instead of going right for the cover Low Ki decided to yell some insults at the fans in the front row. KENTA kicked out of the eventual pinning situation and mounted a mini comeback. KENTA went to tag in his partner but Xavier would have none of it as he simply jumped off the apron and went to the back. This lead to a cartwheel kick/dragon suplex combination that was able to keep the Japanese superstar down for the count and out of the tournament.

The Rottweilers (Homicide and Low Ki) defeated KENTA and Xavier when Homicide pinned KENTA after a dragon suplex in 0:03:24.
Rating: **

The Rottweilers took some liberties with the fallen KENTA after the match before celebrating their victory. KENTA and Xavier teamed up to try and get some measure of revenge against Low Ki but in the end Xavier's bad attitude lead to KENTA's demise. One thing is for sure, this will not be the last time that these three men will be dealing with each other, especially when KENTA and Xavier both feel that they have a legitimate reason for a shot at Low Ki. The Rottweilers will go on to face The Dudley Boys next week in the semi finals.

BJ WHITMER HAS SOMETHING ON HIS MIND
A very angry BJ Whitmer is in the ring with Lance Wright. Whitmer says he feels disrespected that nobody was talking about his win over Sabu. He took Sabu on in his own game and won and yet everybody on the internet and everywhere else are busy talking about  what a great impact Low Ki made or how strange that sick SOB Goldust  acting. BJ Whitmer demands respect and reverence and if the people won't give it to him he will take it from them. Tonight, Whitmer plans on taking out his frustrations on Val Venis.

Match Two
BJ Whitmer
Vs
Val Venis

Both of these men are coming into this match on very different ends of the spectrum. We know where BJ Whitmer stands after his interview but Val Venis is out looking for some redemption here as he lost the deciding fall of a triple threat match last week to Steve Corino and then was brutalized and disrespected by Carlito. The Big Valbowski looked very solid in the early goings of the match, displaying  his underrated but solid technical wrestling prowess. He kept Whitmer frustrated with a series of leg locks and arm bars. Business really picked up when referee Jeremy Nichols was knocked out by an errant diving clothesline by Val Venis. As the two continued battling on in the ring SABU ran down with a steel chair in hand. Sabu threw a chair at Whitmer but he ducked out of the way and the chair hit Venis instead. Whitmer then forearmed Sabu off of the ring apron into the steel guardrail, turned around and hit Venis with a huge spinebuster slam onto the chair before Nicols came too. For good measure Whitmer took the chair and threw it down on Sabu and then he covered Venis to pick up the opportunistic victory.

BJ Whitmer pinned Val Venis after a spinebuster slam in 0:07:03.
(Val Venis suffered an elbow injury. He will be out for approximately 1 month.)
Rating: ***

BJ Whitmer left the ring with intentions to beat on Sabu some more but had second thoughts when Sabu produced the spike~! from his boots.  Whitmer slowly backed up the ramp as Sabu brandished the spike at him. NAPW security rushed out to make sure that nothing would come of this. Whitmer told Sabu he was "nothing but a bitch", full well knowing that there were ten security guards in between him and Sabu. This situation has escalated rather quickly in just two short weeks. Lost in all of the confusion is the fact that a trainer was out to check on Val Venis, who was heavily favoring his right elbow. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and he will be able to get back into the ring soon.

Match Three
Intercontinental Tag Team Titles Tournament Quarterfinal Match
Da Hit Squad (Danny Maff/Steve Mack)
Vs
The Second City Saints (Ace Steel/Colt Cabana)

The NAPW tag team division seems to be a haven for independent stars looking to make their names be known. Both of these teams fit that mold as Da Hit Squad have seemingly dominated every northeastern indy for the last few years before joining the big leagues. Ace Steel and Colt Cabana are two extremely talented individuals from the mid-south region. There are some times that talent just can't beat strength and this was definitely one of those instances. Da Hit Squad's offense is absolutely bone shattering. These two make a simple body slam look devastating. Unfortunately for Steel and Cabana they seemed to be on the wrong side of this pain clinic. The ending saw Steve Mack deliver a back suplex to Ace Steel that knocked the wind out of him long enough for Danny Maff to come flying off the top rope with an elbowdrop for the pinfall.

Da Hit Squad (Danny Maff and Steve Mack) defeated The Second City Saints (Ace Steel and Colt Cabana) when Maff pinned Steel after a flying elbowdrop in 0:06:10.
Rating: ** 3/4

Da Hit Squad looked very impressive in their debut. The semi-finals of the Intercontinental Tag Team Tournament have been set and the pairings will feature The Dudley Boyz and the Rottweilers in once match and Da Hit Squad and NEXTGEN going head to head in the other. Things will only get more interesting from here as all four teams can be legitimately considered serious challengers to the Intercontinental Tag Team Titles.

GET PUMPED
The camera cuts to the back where Scott Steiner is busy preparing for the main event tag team match later on tonight. Suddenly Goldust of all people bursts through the door. He looks remarkably undeterred in his devotion to Steiner after the beating he took last week. Big Poppa Pump double takes when he sees Goldust enter the room.

GD: "Pump, I just want you to know that I had nothing to do with this main event match tonight. I don't even want to team with Ken Shamrock. I want to fight by your side and prove my worthiness as your number one freak."

SS: "LISTEN UP PUNK WHEN I'M TALKING ABOUT FREAKS I MEAN FINE ASS HOOCHIES NOT PAINTED UP SICKOS, YOUR BITCH ASS BETTER NOT STEP IN THE RING WITH ME OR ELSE I'LL SQUEEZE YOU UNTIL YOUR HEAD POPS LIKE A PIMPLE!"

GD: "Oooooooooh Pump, I love it when you talk like that. I'll see you in the ring Poppa and then maybe afterwards I can holla at you because I can certainly hear what you're saying."

With that, Goldust feels himself up and bites at the air before leaving the locker room of a very volatile Scott Steiner. One has to wonder whether Goldust is up to his usual tricks or if he really, truly does see something in Big Poppa Pump. With an individual like the Bizarre One it's just too hard to tell.

Match Four
Four Corners Elimination Match
Jeff Jarrett vs Jeff Hardy vs Chris Sabin vs Steve Corino

This match certainly offered a very unique clash of styles as Jeff Hardy and Chris Sabin both prefer taking to the air while Jarrett and Corino can be considered more in the old school mold. Corino had a big win in a triple threat match last week and looked to do more of the same this week. Jeff Jarrett came into this match extremely focused, claiming in a pre-taped interview that all the "slapnuts" forgot about him last week so he is just going to have to put his name out there. He promises that there is plenty of Stroke to go around tonight. Chris Sabin was the first to find this out just 3 minutes into the match as Double J was able to hit the Stroke out of nowhere for a fast elimination. Say what you want about Double J but he is no dummy as he stepped back and let Steve Corino and Jeff Hardy do a bulk of the fighting  for the next several minutes. Steve Corino seemingly had Jeff Hardy eliminated as he delivered the Old School Expulsion but Corino was too close to the ropes which allowed Jarrett to tag Hardy and make himself the legal man. Steve Corino didn't see this which allowed Jarrett to sneak up behind him and deliver the Stroke for a second elimination. Jeff Hardy fought valiantly but the Old School Expulsion took too much out of him as he, too, fell victim to Jeff Jarrett's Stroke for the third and final elimination.

Four Corners Match:
Jeff Jarrett defeated Chris Sabin, Jeff Hardy and Steve Corino:
x J. Jarrett beat C. Sabin via the Stroke in 0:03:23
x J. Jarrett beat S. Corino via the Stroke in 0:08:10
x J. Jarrett beat J. Hardy via the Stroke in 0:11:41
Rating: ** 1/4

Jeff Jarrett not only swept the match but also made it look very easy. You may not like him but you have to respect the years of experience he brings to the table. There are certainly men with more skill in NAPW but few possess the ring smarts and willingness to do whatever it takes to win like Jarrett does. While names like Cena and Shamrock and Steiner are thrown around when it comes to the first Heavyweight Champion you can't discount Jeff Jarrett by any stretch of the imagination.

Match Five
Carlito
Vs
Christian Cage

These two men both came into this match with something to prove. Last week Carlito was the odd man out in a triple threat match and took the loss despite not being pinned. He took his frustrations out on a fallen Val Venis. Christian Cage competed in the Internet Title battle royal despite the fact that he had no intentions on winning it. KENTA made sure that didn't happen as he eliminated Cage. Both men felt each other out early on but the intensity picked up after Carlito took a time out to take a bite of an apple and spit it in Christian's face. This set Cage off as he took the fight to Carlito with a flurry of chops, kicks and punches. Carlito was actually able to capitalize on Christian's aggression and hit the Backcracker but Cage wisely got his foot on the rope right before the three count. Carlito was outraged that the referee would actually make the right call and turned his attention to him. This allowed Christian enough time to sneak up and hit the Unprettier on Carlito for a big singles victory!

Christian Cage pinned Carlito after the Unprettier in 0:07:35.
Rating: *** 1/2

Carlito threw a huge temper tantrum in the ring while Christian Cage celebrated with his peeps in Baltimore. This is a huge win for him as it keeps his name up there when mentioning possible contender's for the Heavyweight Title. Carlito's situation isn't as cool however as two losses in two weeks just don't bode well.

WALKING~!
When we cut to the back we see John Cena bump into Scott Steiner as he is walking in the back. Cena tells Steiner that he sure as hell doesn't like him but his mission is to go out there and win the match so that he can prove that he is worthy of becoming the NAPW's first Heavyweight Champion. Steiner tells him that they'll win the match but there isn't a chance in hell that Cena will be wearing the gold as Big Poppa Pump plans on being the first, last and only NAPW Champion. The two have a long stare down as we fade to commercials.

MAIN EVENT
Goldust and Ken Shamrock
Vs
Scott Steiner and John Cena

There was certainly a lot of tension in the ring tonight between these four men. Cena and Steiner had their problems backstage and any team with Goldust on it is bound to be dysfunctional. Shamrock insisted on wrestling this match 2 on 1, leaving Goldust to stand by on the ring apron. Shamrock and Cena started out and Shamrock totally outclassed him. He toyed with Cena putting him through several UFC takedowns and submissions, each time letting him go, seemingly to tell him that he is in charge of this match. After several frustrating minutes Cena decided to let Scott Steiner take a crack at it. As soon as Steiner was tagged in Goldust started hopping up and down on the apron, begging for a tag  but Shamrock wouldn't give it to him, much to Big Poppa Pump's relief. Steiner and Shamrock exchanged blows while Goldust made overdramatic "YAY's" for every strike that Steiner landed and "BOOs" for every blow Shamrock landed. Goldust tried to get the crowd to chant "Go, Pump, Go" but to no avail. The 2 on 1 odds got to Shamrock after a while as Cena and Steiner were able to take control by showing a surprising amount of teamwork. Shamrock tried to make the hot tag to Goldust but the Bizarre one refused and hopped off the apron and started to make his way up the ramp to massive boos from the crowd. Before he left the stage area he blew a big kiss to an absolutely shocked Scott Steiner. Steiner and Cena took turns toying with Shamrock before Cena hit a big F-U to take the match.

John Cena and Scott Steiner defeated Goldust and Ken Shamrock when J. Cena pinned K. Shamrock with the F-U in 0:14:23.
Rating: **

After the match Steiner locked in the Steiner Recliner on Shamrock to add insult to injury. After Shamrock passed out in the hold Steiner released it and walked right up to Cena. They exchanged some words and then in a surprise move Cena extended his hand. Steiner grabbed it and they shook as the crowd started to boo even louder. As Steiner went to turn away Cena didn't break the handshake and tried to pull him in for an F-U attempt. Steiner was just too powerful though as he screamed "NOT THIS TIME BITCH!" and drew Cena in and delivered an absolutely nasty over the head release suplex. Steiner grabbed a microphone from the ring announcer and told Cena to "Watch his back for now on because Big Poppa Pump is on a path of destruction that leads to the Heavyweight Title." The show fades out with Steiner standing over Cena with his arms raised in triumph.

Good opener.  If Ki & Homi can keep this up Ki might be your first dual champion.  I doubt it at the moment, but still they got the win and in quick fashion.  Obviously their next match will be the true test as the Dudley Boys are no pushovers.

Second night on the job and Val gets injured.  Not a good omen for his career in NAPW me thinks.  Whitmer seems like a real force in NAPW even so early in the game.  I'm becoming more sold on his position.

And we've got our other semi-final decided.  I still think the Dudleys are a shoe in.  I'd be less sure if they weren't facing the Rottweilers in their semi-final match, but either way I think you're tag division is looking good so far.

You definitely captured the feeling of Steiner :)  If anyone in wrestling talks with all capital letters all the time it's friggin' him.  And you, like Ryan, write Goldust extremely well.

I had picked either Jarrett or Corino to win, but I definitely didn't think Jarrett would win in such dominating fashion.  I thought the elimination love would've been spread around a little.  Not that it's bad that it wasn't, Jarrett comes off looking like serious business.

I'm extremely torn on who to root for, Christian or Carlito.  I heart them both.  Carlito doesn't come off looking bad even though thats two consecutive losses.  Seems like he'll need to step up his game though if he wants to get anything accomplished in NAPW

Haha, no good can come from this main event. :)  Goldy isn't gonna wanna beat on Steiner and he's gonna hate Shammy for it and Cena and Steiner aren't gonna get along.  But thats teh showbiz.  It does however make for some tender visual vittles.  I like that you're playing up Shammy's MMA side a bit.  It gives him a bit more depth than just being a wrestler AND ultimate fighter.  To quote Tony the Tiger, the stuff with Goldust booing his partner during the match was grrrrrrrrrrreat!  Steiner and Cena worked better together that I had thought.  Didn't last after the match was over, but still. :)  Definitely didn't expect Cena to initiate it though, I figured Steiner would've.

Great stuff yo

Low-Ki's quest for a second title gets off to the right start with he and Homicide getting an impressive victory over the mix matched team of KENTA and Xavier.  It'll be interesting to see which of the two steps ahead to get the Internet Title shot.

I really like what you're doing with Whitmer.  In the second week you already have a great feud going with he and Sabu.  And the injury bug already bites you with Val's elbow.  Other than the injury, good stuff with Sabu/Whitmer here.

Da Hit Squad wins which is no surprise.  I expect them to make it to the finals to take on the Rottweilers.  which given the real life heat with Dan Maff and Homicide could be very interesting.

I'm so glad that Goldust gets to continue his antics in NAPW.  Pump rules as a nickname, and with how pissed Steiner is getting, I can't imagine Goldie not doing this on purpose.

Though I wouldn't have necessarily thoguht he would sweep, Jarrett winning this match so dominantly was a good thing.  It brings an outside name into the hunt for the Heavyweight Title.  He sure did beat some ass, didn't he?

Good match with Christian and Carlito.  Not much else to say there.

Fun main event, and Goldust makes me laugh a lot.  Good tension with Cena/Steiner.  And it was good Cena took the fall but Steiner stood tall in the end.  A good edn to the show as your main event scene is clearing up nicely.

No surprises to see the Rottweilers win that one. Can't see them going all the way with Low Ki already holding the gold but they're making a nice little impact. By the way - YAY for Intercontinental tag team titles. Now those are some good titles.

Great job with Whitmer here. I'd barely even heard of him and already I've been compelled to check out what he looks like to put a face to the name. Having him feud with Sabu won't hurt at all either.

You know what, I'm calling Da Hit Squad to be surprise champs. The Dudleys are the OBVIOUS choice and will doubtless hold gold sooner or later, but I'm thinking not yet...

HA! Goldust rules.

Yes, I was thinking you can't discount Jarrett. I know the world title scene has been largely (in two weeks) surrounding those in tonights main but Jeff ought to be there or there abouts when it comes to deciding the first champion (which I'm actually looking forward to now as it happens). The other option would have been to have Corino win and have him be the king of the 3+ singles matches following last week, but Jarrett works for me too.

Just checking, is Christian a face? Obviously Carlito is a heel, I'd initially thought Christian was too after last week but I guess after "celebrating with his peeps" that might not be the case. Carlito needs a big win or two soon in the mean time.

The main worked nicely because all of them got to look good at some point - Shamrock decked Cena early on and was doing well with Steiner too, Cena ends up getting the win, Steiner gets to clean house at the end and Goldust.... is Goldust. Nicely done, keeps everyone relatively strong.
AzraelPosted on 08/11/06 at 02:48:40

Good opener with the Rotts winning, though it's surprising that KENTA took the fall. Can't say I like Xavier a whole lot, but hopefully, you'll make me warm up to him.

Whitmer destroys yet another guy and shows Sabu up again. Whitmer's talking a lot and he backs it up, but he's also being pretty cowardly. It's interesting to see where you're going with him.

Da Hit Squad wins in a short but brutal match. It would have been good to have some Cabana antics, but quality nonetheless.

Excellent exchange with Goldust and Scott Steiner. Goldust's gotten in Steiner's head, though that's probably not all that difficult.

Jeff Jarrett pretty much squashes Sabin, Corino and Hardy. It gives him a lot of momentum, but it tempers Corino's win from last week. Jarrett moves to the Heavyweight Title scene.

Christian gets a necessary win over Carlito, though both could probably get their heat back with promos, Christian's the one that seems like the top title contender. Good match between the two.

Good main event. Goldust keeps Steiner disgusted and Cena gets his win over Shamrock. Shamrock also looked good early against Cena by keeping him offguard with his MMA moves.

And if Cena hadn't been a jerk, Scott Steiner wouldn't have laid him out.

Yeahm Christian is a face. He is always going to be a cocky bastard it just so happens that he is fighting against guys the crowd doesn't like at the present time. I think Christian is one of the few wrestlers in real life who is ultimately the same character whether he is a face of heel.

When I did the four way I wanted Jarrett to come off strong btu I wasn't ready to see him take all three falls. I'm not big on fiddling with results too much so I decided that this would be an instance that I would take what TNM gave me.

Goldust is the man, I picked him mainly because he was a relatively big name in GCW for a while and from a business standpoint it would only make sense to have him on board but he is really writing himself at this point.
rey619Posted on 08/19/06 at 10:39:56

KENTA goes down in 3? Booo! At least he was abandoned by his partner.. Xavier will get his ass kicked in, that's for sure.

Maff's back in wrestling, huh? Guess Homicide has forgiven him his past transgression :)
Never seen Mack's work, but the Saints without Punk is a bleak Saints.

Jarrett is a clever one, with this win he should be a serious contender for the world title.

And so should Cena, as he FU's the "World's Most Dangerous Man". Goldust / Steiner interaction is priceless, pairing Goldust up with someone like Steiner makes both look more interesting.
