LIVE~! Report for Throwdown Thursday exclusively for 411RASSLIN.com

--The show started off with a ten bell salute for fallen GCW Superstar Eddie Guererro. The former GCW superstars looked very shaken up. Overall it was a very touching ceremony for someone who was so well respected in the wrestling fraternity.

--Chris Sabin and Steve Corino went at it in the first match. Sabin looked very good as this was the first time he was actually able to show some offense. He even hit the Cradle Shock but in the end Corino was too much as the Old School Expulsion ended it at about 7:00. ***

--The WrestleTron shows BJ Whitmer being escorted from the arena. Apparently the NAPW championship committee has decided that he and Sabu can't be in the same arena for a few weeks until tensions cool. Whitmer talks a lot of trash but as soon as a chair wielding Sabu shows up he makes a run to hsi rental car. Sabu gives chase but doesn't catch up to Whitmer. He does give a pretty nasty chairshot to the trunk of the Lexus BJ was driving. The man knows how to swing a chair.

--The first SemiFinal match of the Tag Team Title Tournament between the Dudleys and The Rottweilers was next. The Rottweilers can definitely be a dominating tag team for years to come but they are just not in the same league as the Dudleys. A lot of hard hitting brawling, back and forth brawling for a good part of the match until The Dudleys took over with an array of double team moves. The finish sees Bubba pin Low Ki with a huge Bubba Bomb after close to 8 minutes. This makes me think that Bubba is certainly at the top of the Internet Title contenders list which makes things more confusing since KENTA and Xavier are going at it for the number one contendership in a two out of three falls match later on. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. * 1/2

--Carlito finally got a win after pinning Jerry Lynn with the Backcracker at 6:01. Carlito dominated the match which was surprising since he hasn't looked all too impressive up until this point. He cut a post match interview, telling the crowd that Christian Cage isn't cool and that Val Venis is faking an elbow injury because he is scared of Carlito. **

--We go to the back to find out that GOLDUST has been named the special guest referee of tonight's main event between Ken Shamrock and Scott Steiner. Goldust goes to tell Pump the good news but walks in on Steiner with two of his "freaks." Goldust is shocked that "Pump would play him like that" but promised that he would take care of Steiner tonight. What exactly "take care" means I don't know.

--Sabu and Gangrel put together a decent brawl. Sabu hit all of his big spots including several Arabian Facebusters. At one point it actually looked as if Gangrel might steal the match due to some well timed niterference by the always vivacious Shelly Martinez. Sabu kicked out of the Impaler and a few minutes later applied the Camel Clutch to Gangrel in the middle of the ring for the submission victory. Post match Sabu broke the spike out of his boot and sliced Gangrel's forehead wide open before NAPW Security came down to the ring to hold him back. Sabu was obviously trying to send a message to BJ Whitmer.  ** 1/2

--Christian Cage is in the back with Lance Wright. He says that the lockerroom rumor is that next week the NAPW Championship Committee will hand down its decision on how the vacant Heavyweight Title will be contested. He promises that no matter what he will win the belt. Not for himself, but for the peeps. Jeff Jarrett comes out of nowhere and smashes him with a guitar callign him slapbuts and telling the fallen Cage that no NAPW super star, especially some dumb Canadian, is in his league.

--The KENTA/Xavier match had the opportunity to steal the show but for some reason tonight they just didn't click. KENTA took the first fall with his Go 2 Sleep finisher. That move is absolutely devastating to witness in person. There was some decent back and forth chain wrestling that KENTA was once again getting the better of. He charged into the corner with a running knee smash but Xavier moved out of the way and rolled up KENTA in a nice pinning sequence to take the fall. More striking followed durign the third fall as the crowd seemed to get bored, especially after seeing what these two and Low Ki did in the main event of the first Throwdown. The third fall was a double pin as KENTA trapped Xavier in a bridging back suplex but was unable to lift his shoulder off the matt before three. This outcome will certainly make it hard for the NAPW Championship Committee to determine who is the number one contender, especially after Bubba Ray Dudley pinned Low Ki earlier tonight. ** 3/4

--THE MAIN EVENT~! This seemed like a shoe-in for Steiner as a seemingly smitten Goldust acting as referee could only bode well. Goldust was so lenient that he allowed John Cena to come into the ring abd blatantly help Steiner beat down Ken Shamrock. All three took turns stomping a mudhole into Shamrock but things turned sour as Cena turned on Steiner and hit him with a F-U. GOldust was absolutely livid and ejected Cena from ringside after a lengthy arguement. This time allowed Shamrock to recover enough to make his way over to Steiner and put him in the Ankle Lock Submission. When Goldust turned his attention back to the match he was absolutely horrified to see that Steiner was trapped in the middle of the ring and called for the bell! He gave Ken Shamrock the match to let Steienr go from the Ankle Lock! Shamrock got out of the ring quickly and celebrated as Goldust checked on Steiner. When Pump relized what happened he was absolutely furious and repeatedly shoved Goldust. Goldust kept coming back to him so Steiner decided to level him with a lariat and lock in the Steiner Recleiner before leaving the ring as the show ended. ** 1/4

Looks like we've got a format change this week.

Despite the loss, a good match for Sabin.  I hope that he'll be able to open some doors for himself in NAPW but at this jucture a loss to Steve Corino is nothing to feel bad about.

*Goes into Jim Ross mode* OH MAH GAWD!  CHAIR SHOT TO THE LEXUS!  CHAIR SHOT TO THE LEXUS!  THAT CAR HAS A FAMILY AND SABU DOESN'T CARE!

*clears throat* Ok, i'm better now :)

Good match, but I would've been shocked had the Dudleys not won.  And not in a good way either :)  Them losing in the main event wouldn't be so bad, but given their stature in the tag division they had to make it to the finals.

Carlito needed the win over Lynn.  A third loss would've hurt him too much I think.  This win seems like a bit of a side step to me more than forward movement, but it's better than a loss thats for sure.  Carlito not only is going after one of the big guns in Christian, but looks to still be fanning the fire on a feud with Venis.  Part of me wants to see at least a short Venis/Carlito program, but part of me is a little cold on their feud at the moment too.

Haha!  Goldust as ref!  Pure gold my man.  The only thing better would be if Goldust found a way to make himself ref in ALL of Steiner's matches :)

Sabu and Whitmer is either going to end in a bloodbath or a series of bloodbaths.  Hopefully the latter :)  I think Sabu made his point to BJ tonight for sure.

Darn that Jeff Jarrett and his darn guitar.  I'm real interested to find out how exactly the heavyweight title will be decided.  You've got a few nice candidates and I really can't say for sure which way it'll go exactly.

It's one of those magical wrestling things you're not supposed to think about how virtually every 2-out-of-3 falls match goes to the third fall. ;)  And this was a good one too.  The Internet title scene heats up with that double pin ending.  I was rooting for KENTA, but this ending was alright too :)  TENSION!~

Love the main event.  Goldust is great to work with.  So much wackiness.  I bet Goldust stays with Steiner though, the abused have a tendancy to stay with their abuser.  Or maybe Goldie likes it rough too.  Ok, I think i just threw up in my mouth a little. :)

Entertaining card my man.  Keep it up.

I like the format change.  Sets you apart from myself and Chris, but you don't lose any important information in the translation.  Plus it's much quicker. :)

Sabin's a guy who as a young stud can lose a lot of close matches but not really lose too much heat.  Corino, however, needs to win to stay relevant, so good job here.

I really am digging BJ Whitmer.  A lot.  He'll have a big future, no doubt.  But did Sabu really HAVE to damage his car?  That's a crime, Sabu!

I figured the Dudleys would win.  Interesting that you're playing around with Bubba getting a crack at the Internet Title too.  Adds more intrigue to what's going on.  Low-Ki is going to have his fair share of challengers, for certain.

Poor Jerry Lynn.  He's still so good, but as the old guy he's primarily used to put over young talent like Carlito.  Nothing wrong with that, I suppose.  Carlito seems like a guy who is going to make a ton more enemies than he can handle at any given time.

PUMP!  Pump and Goldust rule, and Goldie is the ref!  Huzzah!

Gangrel had a better go at Sabu than I thought he would.  The spike bit at the end as a message to Whitmer was a nice touch.

Jarrett blindsides Christian!  Jarrett is slowly getting himself into the title picture.

Ooh... double pin with Xavier and KENTA.  You're right, not the best match they could have put on, but not bad.  The ending makes the Internet Title division all the more interesting.  The title has barely been around and already there's controversy.

The main event was fun.  I still have trouble buying Cena as a heel.  He still comes off a lot more face-like.  Goldust's role as the ref was great, including immediately calling for the bell to protect Pump.  And ol' Pump immediately dismantles him afterwards.

Looking forward to what is happening with the Heavyweight Title next week.  Nice job, mate.

Format change, eh?

Corino looks good with the win and Sabin comes off stronger than he did last week (though the second part isn't difficult).

Sabu's a crazy man. I bet Whitmer didn't pay the damage insurance on the rental car too. He thinks why should I pay $25 on the unlikely chance that I get hit for the day I have it? And then a scarred Indian man runs at it with a chair.

The Dudleys win which is no surprise, but I would have thought Homicide would take the fall. It's cool to see Bubba in the Internet Title chase, though this tells me that the Dudleys are losing the finals.

Carlito looks good against Lynn and I'm sure that Val is scared of Carlito.

Goldust completely rules. Though "take care" can have entirely too many meanings when Goldust says it.

Poor Gangrel. At least he can drink all his blood and feel full after that. I'm really digging the Sabu/Whitmer feud. Good job.

Ah, slapbuts. I'm thinking that's a better catchphrase than the original. Jarrett's definitely moving himself into the top of the roster, though I don't think he has a chance of being champion over say Cena or Steiner.

I was rooting for KENTA to take the match, but a draw is good too. Maybe a four corners match for the Internet Title is in the cards.

Ah Goldust, the best laid plans often fall apart. Also, Cena obviously cannot be trusted to do anything. I do like how Steiner is completely psychotic in this fed, but Shamrock seems calm and rational at most points. I also like this three way feud between the guys that have to be considered the favorite for the Heavyweight belt.
suicidalbynaturePosted on 08/15/06 at 07:20:45

ahha slapbuts is quite the type but i'll leave it in there for kicks.

i'm goign to stick with this format as it's much easier for me to write. i've never been big on describing move for move sequences so something like this really works for me and not too much information is lost.

Whitmer/Sabu is only getting started so hopefully the interest in this feud keeps up as its definitely not going to be one of those one or two month spats.

Sabin and Jerry Lynn are kind of in limbo. I'd like to pair them down the line not because TNA has been teasing it but because I think the veteran in Lynn showing Sabin the ropes works well. For the foreseeable future though I think they will be used in much the same way. Lynn is especially good because he can put on a good match with almost anyone and is always a threat to steal a match or two.

I don't think I want to put Cena over as a heel but not as a face either. He is just a guy who is doing what it takes to win the belt. I can think of a few ways to make him a bonafide heel but I like the ambiguousness.

Speaking of ambiguous, Goldust is my favorite NAPW wrestler so far. The possibilities with him are endless.
