[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 7/25/05

Snabbit888Posted on 06/08/06 at 15:24:24

We were in Wyoming for the first time ever, just 24 hours removed from Chaos Reigns! The fans in Laramie were excited to see Global Championship Wrestling as the Arena-Auditorium, home of the University of Wyoming Cowboys, was completely SOLD OUT! And with good reason, because what a show we had tonight! Edge is the brand new Television champion and he will make his first title defense against Booker T! also, Paul London will meet "Primetime" Elix Skipper, and Rey Mysterio Jr. will take on CM Punk! Not only that, but we will see Palumbo's Pizza Place with special guest Lance Storm, and Eddie Guerrero has promised that he would be at the home of Mick Foley today in Long Island! All that and so much more!

BROCK LESNAR IS STILL THE CHAMPION, BUT MANY COMPETITORS ARE RIGHT ON HIS TAIL
The show kicked off with a bang as the World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was out for an interview. Lesnar started by putting over Randy Orton for their match last night saying that Orton showed him something last night, but it wasn't enough as the World Title is still firmly around his waist. lesnar then said he was looking for his next challenge, but this brought out Randy Orton himself who told Lesnar that he wasn't done with him yet. "You're hurt, Brock. You may have beat me last night, but I pushed you harder than anyone ever has before." This statement didn't sit well with KURT ANGLE, the former World champion, who came out next. "Excuse me, Orton? Pushed him harder than anyone has before? Are you frickin' kidding me!? How many World Titles have you held, sparky? If anyone should get the next title shot, it's me!" Before Orton and Angle could come to blows, out came CHRIS BENOIT! The crowd popped huge as we haven't seen the Crippler since Super Cade. Benoit looked a little colder than normal, more than likely due to his pending divorce. Benoit said he has decided to focus all of his energies on wrestling and regaining the World Heavyweight Title at any cost, and that he was the one who should get the next shot. At this point, Commissioner Tommy Dreamer hit the scene with an idea. Dreamer believes that Orton, Angle, and Benoit are all worthy of a title shot, and thus at Summer Sizzler, they will all be getting a title shot, along with two other men as for the first time in GCW history, we are going to see the World Heavyweight Title defended in the Elimination Chamber! A demonic structure where two men will start in an enclosed cage with the other four locked in chambers. Every 5 minutes one of the chambers will be opened at random and that man will join the match. Eliminations take place by pinfall or submission. The last man remaining will be the World Heavyweight champion. When Orton asked who the other two men would be in the match, Dreamer said the 5th man will be determined next week in a 20-man battle royal. Dreamer ended the interview by saying that tonight, Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit would team up to take on Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. What a couple of huge announcements from our commissioner!

Match #1
Paul London vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper
We were excited to kick off the evening with a match that had the promise to be a good one as Paul London met "Primetime" Elix Skipper, but nobody was expecting the match to take the turn that it did. London and Skipper are both members of the cruiserweight division as well as the tag team division, so they have the knack for taking big risks. London came out strong and fast, still smarting over the fact that Skipper cost he and AJ Styles the World Tag Team Titles last night. London made his way to the top rope early, but Skipper countered by shoving London off the top to the floor. Something went wrong with the spot though as London's foot became hooked on the turnbuckle and he got his body twisted. London fell very awkwardly, landing with his back on the ring steps. Everyone knew right away that something was seriously wrong when referee JD Sanders threw up the "X" with his arms and the match came to an abrupt halt.

Paul London and Elix Skipper battled to a no contest in 0:01:15. Paul London suffered a fractured back. He will be out indefinitely.
Rating: **

The medical staff was being very cautious with London, taking great care to get him on a gurney and to a hospital. The early prognosis is that London suffered a severely fractured back which caused him to temporarily lose feeling in his legs. Thankfully that feeling has returned, but this injury is very serious. It is too early to tell at this point, but the early estimations are putting Paul London out of action for a year, if he is able to return at all. Our thoughts are with Paul London.

ERIC ANGLE WANTS ANOTHER SHOT AT KURT ANGLE
The mood was a little somber after London's injury, but we had to move on with the show as we cut back to Eric Angle, who was sporting a boot on his ankle. Eric said that he was upset about not winning the match last night and claimed that if he wasn't wrestling with such a badly injured ankle that he would have won the contest. He said that he wants another shot at his brother, and he doesn't care if he has to go through the rest of Team Angle to do it.

Match #2
The Hurricane vs. Goldust (w/ Daffney)
Goldust became the newest member of the Prophecy 24 hours ago when after losing to Booker T, Sean O'Haire came out to put the beat down on Booker. Tonight cemented the fact that Goldust is officially a new member as Daffney accompanied him to the ring. I can't say I'm surprised - Goldust fits in perfectly with this group of freaks. The Hurricane is a little strange himself and was not afraid to try to match Goldust in a game of who is the strangest. I would venture to say Goldust is just slightly stranger than the Man In Green, but matches aren't won or lost based on how weird you are. They're won in the ring, and this one went to Goldust who reversed a flying crossbody attempt by The Hurricane into the Shock Treatment for the 1-2-3.

Goldust pinned The Hurricane with the Shock Treatment in 0:07:43.
Rating: *** 1/4

A good win for Goldust, but it was his post match actions that would have people talking as he unzipped the top of his body suit to reveal a "tattoo" of a heart that had Booker's name in it. Man, this guy is sick.

Match #3
On Commentary: Cruiserweight champion Frankie "The Future" Kazarian
Petey Williams vs. "The Amazing" Red
The new Cruiserweight champion joined us on commentary for our next match as Petey Williams took on The Amazing Red. Kazarian took much of this match to run down both men, saying it's obvious that he carried Red and is not scared of him. He also mentioned how the latest buzz of the cruiserweight division is Petey Williams, which offended the Future because he pointed out that Petey isn't the Cruiserweight champion - he is. This was a great chain wrestling affair (both Petey and Red looked a little nervous to go all out after what had happened with Paul London earlier tonight). Red got a little careless in the ring and what it resulted in was him getting planted with the Canadian Destroyer.

Petey Williams pinned Red with the Canadian Destroyer in 0:06:06.
Rating: **** 1/4

Petey Williams picks up the duke here on Explosion. Kazarian gave Petey a sarcastic round of applause, obviously showing that he wasn't too impressed with Petey. Petey pointed back at Kazarian and then indicated that he feels the title will soon be coming to him. If these two ever lock up, that could very well be true.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUEST - LANCE STORM
"The Italian Stallion" was back for another episode of his ridiculous show, Palumbo's Pizza Place, and his guest tonight was a man who we thoguht we were seeing the last of last night in Lance Storm. Storm wrestled in his retirement match at Chaos Reigns, where he fell to a crucifix from Chris Jericho. Storm couldn't handle going out like that as he attacked Jericho after the match, locking him in the Maple Leaf and having to be physically pulled off of Y2J. Storm explained his actions tonight, saying he was bitter toward Jericho. "I had waited for months to get revenge on Team Canada while I was out with injury. They took away months of my career, and I couldn't wait to get back. I asked you to be my partner, but instead I got your ego. It was MY revenge, not yours, and you took that from me! Then last week you kick me in the face and you cost me the World Tag Team Titles too. And then last night, you beat me in what was supposed to be MY night! But because your ego is so big, you couldn't let anyone else be in the spotlight but you. Jericho, not only am I no longer retiring, but I am not leaving this sport until I retire YOU!" After this threat, Jericho ran in and tackled Storm, and the two began exchanging right hands. Jericho's back was still hurting though as Storm was able to overwhelm him and leave him laying with a backbreaker. After this, Jericho went to Tommy Dreamer and requested a match with Lance Storm at Summer Sizzler, which has been granted.

Match #4
"The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont)
You would think with as unsuccessful as Ken Doane's brash arrogant attitude has been for him that he would change it, but here he was being the same young punk that he has been becoming for the past few weeks. Say what you want about JBL, but one thing he doesn't take kindly to is young punks who are a little too cocky for their own good. Doane didn't get much offense in during this match as JBL pounded on him with hard punches, forearms, and kicks before he put him away with a fallaway slam.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Ken Doane after a fallaway slam in 0:04:32.
Rating: ** 3/4

Another week, and another time Doane's attitude has gotten him an ass kicking. We hear murmurs that JBL is training extra hard this week in hopes of earning himself a spot in the Elimination Chamber. He has a good shot, but he has to get through 19 other competitors who are gunning for the same opportunity.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS LETS US KNOW WHAT HIS MOTIVES ARE
We heard from "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels next, who has been on the shelf since January with a torn triceps, but made a shocking return last night to help Monty Brown defeat CM Punk, Daniels' former liege. Daniels said that he was blind before the injury, not realizing that Punk was only using him for his own agenda. He said it became clear to him when Punk forced him to wrestle in a TV Title match when he was already hurt and stole the title from him. Daniels said he can't get the Television Title back from Punk, but he can work at getting some of that missed time back. He finished by saying he has made it his mission to dismantle the Prophecy and eliminate Punk from GCW like the cancer he is.

Match #5
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. CM Punk (w/ The Prophecy)
CM Punk was obviously listening to what Christopher Daniels had to say, because he was nervous going into this match with Rey Mysterio Jr. Punk usually doesn't bring all of the troops out with him, but he had Daffney, Sean O'Haie, and Goldust all down at ringside to watch for any sign of the Fallen Angel making an appearance. Mysterio didn't seem to mind that the Prophecy was down at ringside as he still wrestled a great match like he has against Punk before. Mysterio was upset about losing the Cruiserweight Title last night, but he isn't one to stay down on the mat and he was coming at Punk with a lot of confidence. The only problem was though that Mysterio, like many in GCW, haven't had much of a chance to figure out Punk's new submission hold, the Anaconda Vice. Punk managed to get Mysterio in the move quickly after he had dodged the Drop of the Dime from Mysterio, and Rey was trapped. Rey does not submit often, so his tapping out shows just how deadly this hold is.

CM Punk made Rey Mysterio Jr. submit to the Anaconda Vice in 0:11:01.
Rating: **** 1/4

The crowd in Laramie gave both men a well deserved round of applause for a great match. Mysterio was firing on all cylinders, but fell just short thanks to that awesome Anaconda Vice. Daniels didn't make any appearances in this match, but just the prospect of him appearing has definitely got the Prophecy on their heels.

MONTY BROWN IS ATTACKED IN THE LOCKER ROOM
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown spoke about his highly impressive reign as the North American champion which has now passed the 9 month mark. Brown said he has taken great pride in being the longest reigning champion of any kind in GCW's short history, and looks forward to holding the title for another 9 months and beyond. Brown was suddenly blindsided though as RHYNO came out of nowhere with the Gore, putting Brown hard into a locker. We haven't seen Rhyno for a couple weeks but he looks to have recovered enough to make an impact, and that impact was hard into the Alpha Male's ribs. Why on Earth would Rhyno be attacking Brown though? Was he hired by someone, or was this of his own accord? Either way, Brown is not going to take this lying down.

Match #6
Abyss vs. Steve Bradley
These two have met a lot recently, and Steve Bradley has shown, unlike many other competitors, that he is not scared of Abyss. Abyss is a monster, no doubt, but what a lot of people forget is that ANYONE can be beat, and that includes the behemoth Abyss. I love watching matches between these two because they just beat the holy living crap out of one another. Bradley knows how to take Abyss to the limits, but he has yet to figure out a way to put his shoulders to the mat or avoid the Black Hole Slam. Good morning, good afternoon, good night.

Abyss pinned Steve Bradley with the Black Hole Slam in 0:07:33.
Rating: *** 3/4

Abyss wins the match, but these two will both be involved in the battle royal a week from now, so there's a good chance they're going to lock horns again.

Match #7
Television Title Match
"The Rated R Superstar" Edge (c) (w/ Lita) vs. Booker T (w/ Sharmell)
Edge was sore and bruised, but he had to make his first Television Title defense, and he made it against a winner from last night's pay-per-view, Booker T. Though what we saw of the match was fairly solid, it didn't really have a chance to get off the ground as it didn't take long for The Prophecy to get involved and destroy Booker T, causing a disqualification of the most blatant variety.

Booker T defeated Edge by disqualification in 0:03:20.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Edge retained the GCW Television Title.)

Though I'm sure Edge isn't a big fan of losing, with his body still suffering the ill effects of his match with Matt Hardy last night, he was content with getting out of here with the Television Title still in tow. Booker was outnumbered, but the odds were evened when CHRISTOPHER DANIELS ran out, but he had a friend with him in the form of a steel chair! Edge and Lita watched as the battle raged on, but in doing so they missed some strange woman jump the rail and start attacking Lita! Edge tried to pull this woman off but he was stopped when MATT HARDY hit the ring and tackled him to the ground. The GCW Official Brigde acted quickly to stop this chaos. Hardy was shouting, "THIS ISN'T OVER, EDGE!" as he was being pulled to the back along with this mystery woman. We're hoping to learn her identity in the coming weeks.

EDDIE GUERRERO IS AT MICK FOLEY'S HOUSE, BUT NOBODY'S HOME
We cut to a video that was filmed earlier today, and just as Eddie Guerrero had said at Chaos Reigns, he had flown out to Long Island and found the home of Mick Foley. Eddie went up to the door and rang the doorbell, saying he was all kinds of different people from the pizza boy to an encyclopedia salesman to flower delivery. Latino Heat's temper started to flare when no one answered the door and he started screaming at the top of his lungs that Foley was a coward and to get outside to fight him now. It was obvious that Foley wasn't home, and Eddie snapped and broke the front windows of the house with a baseball bat that he pulled out of his rental car. When a neighbor came outside and said she was going to call the police, Eddie got in his car and took off. You know Guerrero has lost it when he's resorting to petty vandalism. Something needs to be done about this situation because at this rate, Eddie is going to seriously hurt somebody.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion)/"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle/Randy Orton (w/ Bob Orton Jr.)
Our main event pitted four of the top superstars in Global Championship Wrestling in a tag team match. On one side, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. On the other, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit and his partner, the World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. The wrinkle in this match is that these four men make up two-thirds of the first Elimination Chamber match that will take place at Summer Sizzler on August 21st. With such a big prize up for grabs, the tensions were high and the trust was low. You would think that Lesnar and Benoit would have a better chance at coexisting, but Benoit's disposition has changed since we last saw him. He looks colder and more distant (which is saying something, because he wasn't all that approachable before) and no matter what Lesnar said to him, he didn't listen. As the match wore on, neither team was working all that well together, but it would be Lesnar and Benoit that would fall apart first as they began making extremely hard tags. One of those tags was Lesnar tagging himself into the ring, and the Rabid Wolverine took exception to this and nailed the champ with a kick to the back. Lesnar turned around and decked Benoit out of anger, which allowed Kurt Angle to hit a German suplex that surprised lesnar enough for Angle to get the pin.

Kurt Angle and Randy Orton defeated Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit when K. Angle pinned Lesnar after a German suplex in 0:13:03.
Rating: *** 3/4

Kurt Angle had pinned Brock Lesnar! Angle was celebrating like he had won the gold medal again, but that celebration was cut short when Randy Orton nailed him with the R.K.O.! This is how our show came to a close.

With this show in the books, we are on our way to our next pay-per-view, which is Summer Sizzler on August 21 from the Charlotte Colisseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. The card is in its early stages, but it looks promising with what is signed so far.

Elimination Chamber for the World Heavyweight Title - Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Kurt Angle vs. "The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton vs. ??? vs. ???

"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. Lance Storm

We expect to have more matches to announce next week, so be sure to join us for Monday Night Explosion!
americamamushiPosted on 06/08/06 at 17:56:24

WOO!  Elimination Chamber!  I knew when guys started pouring out thats where this was heading.

Wow... London is freakin' dead.  Uber tough loss!

Haha.  Can't get enough of Goldust's wacky antics.

Alright!  Storm isn't gone after all.  A re-match with Jericho will put le butts in der seatens.  Bad part is if Storm retires Jericho... then we lose two guys.  :-/

At this juncture I'm thinking that JBL is a real likely candidate to be in the Elimination Chamber match at Sizzle.  I'd bet my entire collection of Lucha Libre comemerative cups on it... except El Dandy... no matter how sure i am I never bet the Dandy. :D haha

Nice win for Punk over Mysterio.  He's quite the force to be reckoned with.  Looks like Daniels may have a hard time ridding the GCW of him.

Whether Rhyno is a hired gun or just wants the NA title Brown and Rhyno meeting in a ring is a recipe for destruction.

Haha, mass wrestling chaos rules.  I'm all a-flutter wonder who Matt's mystery woman is now.

I guess maybe it was a good thing Mick wasn't home.  That bat could-a been upside his head otherwise.

Lovely ending to the main event.  Things are only going to get worse before the PPV as well.

Good stuff brada-man
