[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 4/11/05

Snabbit888Posted on 01/24/06 at 04:24:57

Deadly Draw is but six days away, but the action is already intense in Fort Worth, Texas for Monday Night Explosion! As we go into the pay-per-view this Sunday, six-man tag team matches are on the menu as we have two of them tonight! In our first one it will be the Prophecy taking on Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Cruiserweight champion Paul London! In the second, it will be the World Tag Team champions, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin team up with their Team Angle partner, Eric Angle, to take on Booker T, Goldust, and North American champion Monty Brown! What a night this should be!

KURT ANGLE IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT BROCK LESNAR'S RETURN
The show kicked off with our World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle out for a promo, and to say the return of Brock Lesnar has him rattled would be a vast understatement. Angle went on a long tirade about how Lesnar had no right doing what he did last week and how he should be suspended and banned from competing in Deadly Draw. Commissioner Tommy Dreamer came out to confront Angle's demands. He told Angle that although how Lesnar came back isn't exactly how the GCW Board of Directors would like to see things done, but it was just how Dreamer likes it. As a result, Lesnar would NOT be suspended and would be competing in the Deadly Draw match. Dreamer continued, "But you shouldn't be worried about Brock Lesnar, Angle, as this Sunday you defend that World Heavyweight Title against Eddie Guerrero. Now Eddie will be in action tonight against an opponent to be determined, but you, Kurt, you don't have a match. But don't worry, I took the liberty of scheduling a match for you." Angle demanded to know who it would be, but Dreamer was vague. "The man you will be taking on tonight is a man making his GCW debut, and he's the mystery entrant for the Deadly Draw. You'll find out who he is just as soon as everyone else does." Not only does Angle have Guerrero and Lesnar breathing down his back, but now he has a match against a mystery opponent later tonight. It could be anybody!

Match #1
"Primetime" Elix Skipper/Low-Ki vs. Star Quality
Elix Skipper has been having trouble finding the winner's circle recently, but he was hoping to change that as he teamed up with Low-Ki to take on the young team of "Ravishing" Rob Conway and "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan, Star Quality. A lot of times when new teams get together, they have a harsh learning curve. They aren't in sync with one another, they don't know the other's tendencies in the ring, and they haven't discovered their role in the team. While Conway and Morgan aren't quite there yet, they are making up for their lack of teaming experience with confidence, and it has propelled them to early success. Skipper and Low-Ki know each other very well though, and are former World Tag Team champions after partnering together since day one in GCW. As this match progressed, something seemed of with the team of Low-Ki and Elix Skipper. Skipper is trying to get his confidence back, which is understandable, but at the end of this match, he didn't tag out when he probably should have. What resulted was him getting caught in a vicious power bomb and his shoulders being pinned to the mat.

Star Quality (Matt Morgan and Rob Conway) defeated Elix Skipper and Low-Ki when M. Morgan pinned Skipper after a power bomb in 0:05:59.
Rating: *** 1/2

Another great win for Star Quality, this being the second time they have pinned former World Tag Team champions. They can't be far from getting their first crack at the current tag team champions. Low-Ki, though upset with the loss, tried to console Skipper, but Skipper wasn't receptive, heading to the back by himself. I don't think the team is in any jeopardy at splitting up, but Skipper needs to get his temper in check.

BROCK LESNAR AND EDDIE GUERRERO EXCHANGE WORDS
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero is walking down a corridor when he is stopped by Brock Lesnar. "Eddie, if you beat Angle this Sunday, you better enjoy every second you have as the World Heavyweight champion. Eat off that belt. Sleep with that belt. Shower with that belt, because I guarantee you that title is going to be around my waist very, VERY soon." While many wrestlers would be intimidated by the Monster from Minnesota addressing them so, Eddie Guerrero is too crazy to be intimidated. Eddie responded by telling Lesnar he didn't need to wait until he was the World champion and they could fight right here tonight in Fort Worth. This pretty much proves beyond doubt that Guerrero is nuts, taking a match of this magnitude six days before he wrestles for the World Heavyweight Title.

Match #2
The Hurricane vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian
Frankie Kazarian was looking to keep sharp as he challenges for the Cruiserweight Title this Sunday, but he was going to need to bring all he had to defeat the red hot Hurricane. Kazarian obviously didn't respect the superhero as he was using tactics to humiliate him at the beginning. When Hurricane surprised the Future with the Shining Wizard that would have gotten him the win had Kazarian not got his foot on the ropes, Kazarian realized this was going to be harder than he thought. The Hurricane kept up with him every step of the way, and you could tell by the exasperated look on his face that Kazarian did not expect this. Finally Kazarian was able to catch the Man In Green by surprise and hit the Wave of the Future seemingly out of nowhere and got the 1-2-3.

Frankie Kazarian pinned The Hurricane with the Wave of the Future in 0:05:42.
Rating: **** 1/4

Kazarian was a bit embarrassed that he was pushed to the limit like this and was going to take liberties on The Hurricane after the match, but when ABYSS started walking down the ramp, Kazarian wisely took off through the crowd.

RANDY ORTON MAKES A DEAL
We cut to backstage where we see Randy Orton talking to "The Manbeast" Rhyno. We know that Rhyno would be facing Chris Jericho later tonight, so this was a suspicious scene to say the least. When Orton caught eye of the camera spying in on their conversation, he flipped out, put his hand in front of the lens and shouted for the cameraman to leave. We don't know for sure what transpired with this meeting, but it's a safe bet that it's not good for Y2J.

Match #3
Matt Hardy/Rey Mysterio Jr./Paul London (Cruiserweight champion) (w/ Lita) vs. The Prophecy (w/ Daffney)
What a fantastic six man clash we had as Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Paul London all teamed up to take on CM Punk, Sean O'Haire, and Jeff Hardy, collectively known as the Prophecy. This was an exciting match from bell to bell and the fans really appreciated the effort the six men put out there for this one. What made this match very interesting is that we got to see the first in ring meeting between Matt and Jeff Hardy, though it took awhile. The Prophecy's strategy was to keep Matt Hardy away from his brother, thus making him angry and more prone to mistakes. It was a sound strategy and one that was working as Matt was itching to get ahold of Jeff. When they finally did, the crowd was exploding as Matt took his brother behind the wood shed. It wasn't pretty, but the fans were loving every minute of Jeff getting what was coming to him. Matt looked to have the match won when he hit the Twist of Fate, but Sean O'Haire jumped in and broke it up with a kick. This prompted the corners to empty and all six men to brawl in the ring. During the commotion, referee Petey Pluck tried in vain to get the illegal men out of the ring, which let Daffney slide in a pair of brass knuckles to Jeff. Jeff clocked his brother with the knux and hit the Swanton Bomb and in the War of the Hardy Boyz, Jeff had won the first battle.

The Prophecy (CM Punk, Jeff Hardy and Sean O'Haire) defeated Matt Hardy, Paul London and Rey Mysterio Jr. when J. Hardy pinned M. Hardy with the Swanton Bomb in 0:08:53.
Rating: ****

Not the most moral of wins, but the Prophecy don't care how they come. CM Punk hopes the same result happens this Sunday when he defends the Television Title against Rey Mysterio Jr. Also with all three members in Deadly Draw, it could be a very good night for the Prophecy.

THE BASHAMS BEG JBL FOR FORGIVENESS
The Cabinet all met backstage, and it was not a friendly meeting. The Bashams made one last ditch effort to make good with John Bradshaw Layfield, apologizing for being unable to eliminate Abyss. Before they could get very far in their apology, JBL snapped and told them to shut up. "You two have disappointed me for the last time. You are FIRED!" The Bashams protested for a second before leaving the room. At this point, Shaniqua chimed in. "Don't worry, John, I know exactly how to get rid of Abyss." JBL didn't care to hear what her plan was though as she was informed that she was fired as well! The Cabinet as we knew it is officially over. Shaniqua left vowing revenge. Thoguh the Bashams and Shaniqua hadn't solved his Abys problems, JBL may have made a mistake by angrying Shaniqua. She is the definition of "vindictive bitch."

Match #4
John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont) vs. Justin Credible (w/ The Colonel)
After having to fire the members of his Cabinet, JBL still had to wrestle a match tonight. Fortunately the match was only against Justin Credible, because even if he was distracted by the Cabinet's disbanding, Chicken Boy isn't anywhere near wrestling when it comes to his focus. During the brief moments Credible had the advantage, he spent most of it arguing with the Colonel at ringside. Either way, it certainly wasn't a surprise when JBL took his head off with the Stock Market Crash and took the win.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Justin Credible with the Stock Market Crash in 0:04:54.
Rating: *** 1/2

With JBL's size, strength, and bad attitude, he could make many waves in the Deadly Draw match. He has the tools to win it, but can he keep the focus remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Credible is going to need to win a match against Chuck Palumbo on High Voltage to even qualify. Maybe the teachings of the Colonel can get Chicken Boy past the Italian Stallion. I can't believe I just said that out loud.

Match #5
Non-Title Match
Kurt Angle (World Heavyweight champion) vs The 30th Participant in Deadly Draw
Kurt Angle was told he was going to have a match tonight against the 30th participant in this Sunday's Deadly Draw match. Angle had no idea who it was going to be until match time, and when it was announced as the debuting Ken Doane, well, he still had no idea who he was. Doane was met by silence from the crowd upon being announced as no one had the slightest idea who he was. Doane has been wrestling for about 6 years now, which is highly impressive as he is only 19 years old. Being the youngest man in GCW, you'd think he'd be intimidated, especially when his first match was with the World Heavyweight champion. But the youngster had a swagger to him. Now Angle was in control of the match, that can't be argued, but Doane wasn't making it easy on him, giving him more trouble that expected. With each kickout or counter executed by Doane, he fans got into it more and more, believing this kid could actually pull it off. When Angle got the Ankle Lock on though, it looked like the rook was going to fall short in his debut. That is until Eddie Guerrero made an appearance, stealing Angle's gold medal from ringside! Angle was furious, yelling for Latino Heat to return the medal, but Guerrero was simply laughing and taunting the champ. Angle completely lost focus on what he was doing, and was caught completely off guard by a small package from Doane which got the three count! In what has to be the biggest upset in GCW history, newcomer Ken Doane had pinned the World Heavyweight champion!

Ken Doane pinned Kurt Angle after a small package in 0:12:10.
Rating: *** 1/2

Doane ran out of the ring as excited as a kid on Christmas morning, celebrating the win in the crowd. Guerrero couldn't control his laughter as Angle was going nuts about losing this match. Angle went sprinting after Guerrero, who wisely ran away, dropping the gold medal in the process. Angle got his medal back, but he won't get that win back tonight. What is this going to do to the champ's psyche' as he defends the World Heavyweight Title against Guerrero this Sunday?

Mario Riviera sits down with Chris and Nancy Benoit
We had a special interview next with Chris Benoit and his wife, Nancy. Nancy was wearing a neck brace due to the vicious attack on her by Steve Bradley at Proving Ground. A tearful Nancy explained to Riviera about the trauma involved in what happened, and how she has had trouble sleeping since the ordeal, explaining that's why she and Chris chose to press charges. Benoit added that even with that "maniac" Bradley behind bars, Nancy wasn't leaving his side for a long time.

Match #6
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion)/Booker T/Goldust (w/ Sharmell) vs. Eric Angle/The World's Greatest Tag Team (World Tag Team champions)
We had a second excellent six man tag team match tonight as Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, and Eric Angle of Team Angle went up against the team of North American champion Monty Brown, Booker T, and Goldust. This would serve as a little preview of sorts as Eric Angle challenges Monty Brown for the North American Title this Sunday at Deadly Draw. Booker T and Goldust, however, have had chances to attain victory over the World's Greatest Tag Team, including a World Tag Team Title shot, but have barely fallen short each time. After a fantastic match, good fortune shined on Booker and Goldust as the Golden One kicked Haas off when he was going for the Haas of Pain, smashing him into the turnbuckle. Goldust got the tag to Booker, who went absolutely BANANA. Benjamin and Eric Angle ran in to try to cut off Booker's momentum, but Goldust and Brown interjected, allowing Booker to nail Haas with the Axe Kick and pick up a huge win.

Booker T, Goldust and Monty Brown defeated Team Angle (Charlie Haas, Eric Angle and Shelton Benjamin) when Booker pinned C. Haas with the Axe Kick in 0:14:57.
Rating: *** 1/2

Finally Booker T and Goldust have been able to get one up on the World's Greatest Tag Team in this six man tag team match. Eric Angle was obviously upset after this contest as he was unable to cause Monty Brown any apparent injury or discomfort going into Deadly Draw. Eric Angle is going to have his work cut out for him at Deadly Draw.

KID KASH IS HERE TO MAKE AN IMPACT
We have all been very impressed by GCW newcomer Kid Kash in recent weeks as he is so far undefeated and is working himself up the rankings in the cruiserweight division. Kash came out for an interview and said he is doing exactly what he knew he would do and what everyone else should have known too. We said that the cruiserweight division is his playground and that he has his eyes on the Cruiserweight Title. But he said that first he was going to shock the world by winning the Deadly Draw match this Sunday, going on to Super Cade, and becoming the World Heavyweight champion. Based on his size, that will be a difficult task, yes, but one thing Kash is not short on is confidence. It'll be fun to see how he does this Sunday.

Match #7
"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. Rhyno
We saw Rhyno and Randy Orton meeting earlier in the night, but we were unsure why. Whatever it was though, it probably wasn't going to be good for Chris Jericho, Rhyno's opponent tonight. Rhyno is normally an aggressive guy to begin with, but he turned that up a notch against Y2J, and Jericho looked to be wrestling more for survival than winning this match throughout much of it. Randy Orton himself would come out midway through this match, but he was acting solely as an observer. But Orton isn't the type of guy to come watch a match and not bring attention to himself, so although he didn't get physically involved, his presence was definitely noticed by Jericho. Orton kept inching closer and closer to the ring, knowing it would get under Jericho's skin. The plan worked, as Jericho jumped to the outside with the intention of fighting it out with Orton. Referee Antonio Santangelo interjected though, getting in between them before anything could happen. Jericho got back in the ring while Santangelo tried to usher Orton to the back. In doing so, he had his back turned to Rhyno smashing Jericho with the ring bell! Y2J was out cold, and after Orton told Santangelo there was a cover in the ring, the pinfall was counted.

Rhyno pinned Chris Jericho after hitting him with the ring bell in 0:06:48.
Rating: *** 1/2

A thin line of blood trickled out of Jericho's forehead after that brutal bell shot, and Orton couldn't have been any happier. We figured out what the meeting was about earlier when Orton reached into his pocket and handed Rhyno a wad of money. Orton had paid the Manbeast to take Jericho out, and by the looks of Jericho after the match, I think he got the job done.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar
Just one more match to go, and what a huge match it was as Brock Lesnar returned to action after a three month absence from the ring to take on the number-one-contender to the World Heavyweight Title, Eddie Guerrero! These two had a verbal confrontation earlier with Lesnar essentially saying that if Eddie wins the World Title this Sunday, he better not get too comfortable with it because the Monster From Minnesota will be there to take it. Lesnar showed no apparent ring rust, but I think he assumed he was going to come right back into things and dominate. He looked to be thrown off a bit by the fact that not only was he not thoroughly ravaging Guerrero, but Latino Heat wasn't intimidated in the least. Guerrero and Lesnar were engaged in a war, but unfortunately for the fans, we didn't get to see a clear ending to this match. Guerrero had some momentum building after Lesnar missed trying to nail Eddie with a running shoulder to the midsection in the corner, connecting with the post. Eddie hooked Lesnar in for the Three Amigos, but he was only able to hit one of them before TEAM ANGLE rushed in and assaulted both men. The match was completely out of control now, and referee Jimmy Appleseed had no choice but to throw this one out.

Brock Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero battled to a no contest in 0:14:03.
Rating: ***

Kurt Angle, Eric Angle, Shelton Benjamin, and Charlie Haas were all putting the boots to Guerrero and Lesnar, but the tides were turn and Eddie and Brock started fighting them off. At this point, the locker room began to empty and a HUGE fight was on! Everyone was very antsy and not wanting to wait for Deadly Draw, and the show went off with the entire locker room going at it.

Next stop, Deadly Draw from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas! What a monstrous event this should be!

I'm really hoping you put together something good for the Deadly Draw - Rumble matches always kick ass and given a chance to write something decent, I'm sure you can come up with something interesting. Brock'll still win of course.

OK, Orton is a heel, I've decided. Either way, he and Jericho are on a little collision course for Deadly Draw. I'm calling Orton there.

Speaking of predictions, here's what else I've got - Angle to defeat Eddie despite Angle losing today (Ken Doane - where did THAT come from? OK, I'd figured out what was going to happen by the end, but I've never even heard of the guy).

Eric Angle to get the obligatory title change by defeating Monty Brown, giving Team Angle all the gold for Super Cade. Not sure, following on from the Team Angle match today, that Booker and Goldust will get it done when they get their shot, but oh well.

CM Punk to score a decisive victory over Rey and prove he CAN get it done. OK, Jeff got it done today by cheating (very six-man-tag-Wrestlemania-3-esque) but I'm thinking Punk'll get it sorted.

And another title change for the sakes of it, Kazarian picks up the cruiser title. Actually, that's a worryingly high number of heel wins I've called... oh well.

After the Benoit interview, when's the Team Angle parody? OK, Bradley's in prison, but naer-de-mind, maybe you can do the Ken Patera angle where he apologises from his cell.

Star Quality, I'm taking credit for their success now. 8)

Well JBL got a win today over Team KFC, but the Cabinet is no more. Are the Bashams still under contract after this? I gathered Shaniqua still is from what was said, but they seemed to slip out without a trace there.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/25/06 at 05:21:17

Ken Doane is a supposedly a highly touted prospect in WWE.  I don't know when you get to watch the new RAWs out there or whatever, but he debuted on RAW last night as one of the members of the Spirit Squad.  He's only 19 years old and has 6 years pro experience.  He's supposedly a stud, and I haven't seen him wrestle, but I thought of some stuff to do with him so I brought him in.  I've yet to see him actually work (but I've never seen Steve Bradley or Eric Angle work a match yet either, and I've gotten them over :))

And the Bashams are still under contract.
americamamushiPosted on 01/25/06 at 18:01:59

OoOoOoOo... a debut. Tender Vittles.

Geez.  Ki & Skipper get back in the tag saddle and lose.  Maybe they should just take a vacation.  Good news is Star Quality goes over.  Tasty.

Not too sure about eating off the title... but whatever, it's a party.

Abyss showed up a little too late to help his little buddy Mr. Green Jeans.  Kazarian is like a song by Buster Poindexter, "Hot, Hot, Hot" (Now there is a reference)

Jericho has enough problems with Orton, but if Orton is enlisting the help of Rhyno tonight to soften the Ayatollah of Rock & Roll-a up for the PPV, things no lookey so goodey.

Nice ending to the 6-man tag match.  I'm getting more and more excited about the Civil War of GCW... you know... brother vs. brother.... never mind. :)

JBL may not have the Bashams & Shaniqua... but he's still got Lamont and damn it... that's somethin' special.

And the big surprise is... KEN DOANE!... *crickets* and the crowd goes mild... :)  I'm not familiar with him, but I've heard the name.  I know he's an OVW guy.  Impressive upset win.  It was thanks to Eddie Guerrero, but still, a pin over Kurt Angle, let alone world champion Kurt Angle is something to write home about.

lmao.  "Went absolutely banana" I love that.  Where did that come from again?  I forget.  Hurray for Booker, Goldy & Monty winning.  I'll skip their after party though...

I think Kash will do good saturday.  Better than expected by most at least.  I'm not thinking he's gonna pull the 1984 Hocky Miracle out of his pantaloons, but still, a good job in the Deadly Draw might get him noticed for a Cruiserweight shot sooner too.

Those darn no goodniks.  Jericho got his bell rung... literally... but I think he'll be ok... I hope he'll be ok.  Even if Jericho can't do it at the PPV, Orton's upence will come.

Can't beat a cluster fuck to end the last big show before a PPV.  Clusterfucks make the wrestling world go round. ;)

Prediction time...

30-man Deadly Draw Match - Winner receives World Heavyweight Title shot at Super Cade II: Brock Lesnar

World Heavyweight Title Match - Kurt Angle (c) vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero: Kurt Angle

"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton Randy Orton

North American Title Match - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. Eric Angle: Eric Angle

Television Title Match - The Prophecy barred from ringside - CM Punk (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.: CM Punk

Cruiserweight Title Match - Paul London (c) vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian: Paul London

Banana - Mick Foley mentioned in his book that Pat Patterson once said it because his grammar is dodgy.
