High Voltage Match
Booker T/Goldust (w/ Sharmell) vs. Team Canada (w/ Dawn Marie)
Before the pay-per-view broadcast, we had a tag team contest on High Voltage pitting Booker T and Goldust against Team Canada. Booker T and Goldust have officially strengthened their team, and this is the best they looked yet. But despite being on High Voltage, these large pay-per-view crowds get everyone pumped, and Team Canada brought it all to the table. However, it's going to be hard to beat Sharmell's boys when they're working like this, and they picked up the win with a Booker T Axe Kick.

Booker T and Goldust defeated Team Canada (Teddy Hart and Petey Williams) when Booker pinned P. Williams with the Axe Kick in 0:09:58.
Rating: ****

All that and a lot more, so let's not waste any more time and get right to it!

Match #1
Winner gets Television Title shot at Deadly Draw
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Rhyno
Our first match of this pay-per-view would actually determine a match from the next pay-per-view as Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno went at it to see who will wrestle for the Television Title at Deadly draw (a title currently held by CM Punk). Rhyno came into GCW amidst a wave of popularity, but that quickly soured when Rhyno turned on Mysterio. Rhyno doesn't seem to are that his fan support is gone, as in a pre-match interview, he made it clear that he is in business for himself now, and that the fans aren't going to make him successful - he is. Whatever Rhyno's mindset is, Rey Mysterio could care less, as he was looking for both a measure of revenge and a Television Title shot. A classic mismatch of styles here and it wasn't a shock at all at what both men were going to try to do. Mysterio was on the receiving end of a lot of offense, but he sued Rhyno's aggressiveness against him by countering a Gore attempt with a dropkick to the head. The 6-1-9 and West Coast Pop followed, and Mysterio got the win.

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Rhyno with the West Coast Pop in 0:07:44.
Rating: ***

Rhyno was angry when he came to, but no matter how angry he was, it would be Rey Mysterio Jr. wrestling for the Television Title at Deadly Draw and not him. Now Mysterio awaits the winner of the CM Punk/Matt Hardy match later tonight.

THE OFFICE OF TOMMY DREAMER
We cut back to the office of Tommy Dreamer where he was meeting with Randy Orton. Orton voiced his disapproval about Eddie Guerrero being added to the match. "The guy thinks I attacked him, which I had absolutely nothing to do with! And even worse, he's nuts! The guy is unstable. Who knows what he's going to try to do to me!" Dreamer told Orton to calm down, using flattery to butter Orton up, telling him that he's a third-generation superstar and that many believe he is the future of this business. Orton looked to be feeling a little better, but he does have good reason to be a bit concerned. Chris Jericho doesn't trust him and Guerrero wants his head on a plate.

Match #2
Two-out-of-Three Falls World Tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper/Low-Ki
It was put up or shut up time for Elix Skipper and Low-Ki. This was their last opportunity to seize the World Tag Team Titles as long as the current champions, the World's Greatest Tag Team, are on top of the mountain. This match was also best two-out-of-three falls to ensure that this one ended decisively. Both teams knew just how important getting that first fall was, and if you get that first one, it leaves you with a lot more options in the next fall to wrestle your style of match. The first fall would go to the reigning champions when Skipper sprung off the top at Shelton Benjamin, but Benjamin caught him with a superkick that temporarily knocked Skipper loopy allowing the WGTT to get the first fall.

Kurt Angle has taught Benjamin and Haas many good things, but it looks like another trait that has been passed on is that the World's Greatest Tag Team has that overconfidence that the Angle family is known for. Rather than stay on the offensive, the champs got complacent and looked like they were trying to not lose instead of win. Skipper and Low-Ki felt the desperation and roared back to win the second fall in impressive fashion when Ki drilled Benjamin with the Ki Krusher.

The sense of urgency was still great in this one, but now both teams were feeling it. This led to a very fast-paced and action-packed final few minutes. There were several nearfalls coming from both sides of this match, but no one could seem to get that final move to put the other away. It looked like Skipper and Low-Ki finally had swung the momentum firmly in their direction when Ki went for the Tidal Crush on Haas, but Benjamin got himself in the way and took the blow. Haas used Benjamin's selflessness to flatten Low-Ki with a lariat and then lock on the Haas of Pain, earning a submission victory and keeping the titles with Team Angle.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) beat Elix Skipper and Low-Ki 2 falls to 1:
x S. Benjamin beat Skipper via a superkick in 0:04:54
x Low-Ki beat S. Benjamin via the Ki Krusher in 0:12:44
x C. Haas beat Low-Ki via the Haas of Pain in 0:18:08
Rating: *** 3/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Elix Skipper and Low-Ki fought their hearts out, but due to the pre-match stipulations, they will be unable to challenge for the World Tag Team Titles as long as the World's Greatest Tag Team are the champions.

MARIO RIVIERA BACKSTAGE WITH ROB CONWAY & MATT MORGAN
We cut back to Mario Riviera who was standing by with Rob Conway and Matt Morgan. They both were sporting a new look including glittery vests and dark sunglasses. Conway took the initiative and officially introduced themselves as a brand-new tag team, "Star Quality." After going on about how in GCW you have to "take the bull by the horns" and that, "Now is our time. We've been overlooked and underrated for long enough now. That won't happen anymore, and you want to know why? Because we're Star Quality." We were also informed that they want to be referred to as "Ravishing" Rob Conway and "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan. The fans in attendance didn't seem all that impressed, so Conway and Morgan have a lot of work to do to win them over.

Match #3
Abyss/The Hurricane vs. The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua & Lamont)
Abyss is finally free of Shaniqua and the Cabinet, and has found what looks to be a new friend in the form of The Hurricane. John Bradshaw Layfield has made it very clear to the Basham Brothers that he not only wants Abyss and The Hurricane to lose tonight, but he wants them eliminated completely. Abyss looked lost again in the early going, as despite how awful of a person Shaniqua is, she is a good leader. But The Hurricane wouldn't let Abyss stay lost, and with his encouragement, plus the support of the large fanbase Abyss has garnered in recent weeks, Abyss hit his stride and took over the match. Shaniqua tried to get involved by sending Lamont in the ring, but The Hurricane took care of him while Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam on Doug Basham, giving this team the huge upset win.

Abyss and The Hurricane defeated The Basham Brothers (Danny Basham and Doug Basham) when Abyss pinned Doug Basham with the Black Hole Slam in 0:07:24.
Rating: ** 3/4

The crowd gave Abyss a huge ovation as he and The Hurricane celebrated their victory over the former World Tag Team champions. The members of the Cabinet all headed to the back, dejected as one would expect.

BACKSTAGE WITH THE CABINET
JBL met his group right at the curtain backstage, and I could have swore I saw steam coming out of his ears. He was angry to say the least at the Bashams for getting defeated (soundly no less). As has become a habit, JBL verbally ran down his stablemates before shouting, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!" It looks like Layfield is actually going to do some of his own dirty work.

Match #4
I Quit Match
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Eric Angle
The feud between Chris Benoit and Eric Angle has gotten more intense with each passing week. It reached the next level when Benoit became the first man in Global Championship Wrestling to pin Angle's shoulders to the mat, doing so in a top-contender Fatal Fourway. Angle has been going around telling anyone who will listen (and many who won't) that the pin didn't count as it was in a Fatal Fourway match. Benoit wanted one more chance to shut Angle up once and for good, and he got that chance in this I Quit match. The rules for this are simple - abuse your opponent to the point where he says "I Quit." Angle was introduced first, and the first thing he did was grabbed a steel chair from ringside, arming himself. The Crippler then came down with intention, stomping right at Angle, intimidating Angle to the point that he threw the chair down and was running for his life around ringside. When the Rabid Wolverine finally got a hold of Angle, the beating began.

Benoit was determined to teach Angle a lesson and shut him up. By the midway point of this match, Angle's chest was literally BLEEDING due to the vicious chops from Benoit. Angle got in a good amount of offense himself, obviously, but anyone watching could tell that Benoit was in the driver's seat. To Angle's credit though, he refused to give up. That is something that often gets overlooked with Eric Angle. He sure runs his mouth a lot, but he's a legitimately tough individual. Angle was able to get an Ankle Lock on Benoit, but there was no way Benoit was going to tap out here. Benoit fought out of it and looked to have this one in the bag when he got the Crippler Crossface on tight, but before Angle could say the two words that would end this match, the VideoTron came up to show STEVE BRADLEY standing outside Chris Benoit's home in Atlanta, Georgia! Benoit released the hold as Bradley went in the house, causing Nancy Benoit to scream. Bradley grabbed Nancy by the hair before looking back into the camera and telling Benoit that he had better give it up or his wife was in for it. Benoit took no time in grabbing the microphone. "I quit, I quit! Just let her go!" The match was over.

No-Countout-No-DQ-I-Quit Match:
Eric Angle made Chris Benoit say "I Quit" in 0:19:07.
Rating: *** 1/4

What a disgusting display from both Eric Angle and especially Steve Bradley! Bradley's actions were about to get much worse though as he laughed sadistically before grabbing Nancy Benoit and DDT'ing her on the Benoit family coffee table! Benoit sprinted toward the back showing more true emotion than we've seen from him. Bradley just continued his sick laugh before the camera went out. A few moments later, we saw Benoit still in his wrestling gear and with his bag in hand running to the parking lot, getting in his car, and driving away. Steve Bradley may have opened up a can of worms he wasn't ready for.

Match #5
Cruiserweight Title Match
Paul London (c) vs. Justin Credible
This Cruiserweight Title match was a strange one to watch, as Paul London defended against Justin Credible. Credible had been lobbying for a title shot for weeks, and was granted one when he was able to make weight (finally). The catch was that Commissioner Tommy Dreamer was forcing Credible to wrestle in the chicken suit, a costume that Credible had worn a few weeks prior in an effort to burn more calories while exercising. As was expected, the fans were all over Credible, making a wide array of chicken calls in his general direction. "Chicken Boy" as he was so kindly referred to by announcers Joey O'Donnell and Brian Wagner was noticeably thrown off by the taunts of the crowd and was completely off his game as a result. London was having fun too, even locking Credible in a highly ironic chicken wing on his way to an easy title defense.

Paul London pinned Justin Credible with the London Calling in 0:07:49.
Rating: ***
(Paul London retained the GCW Cruiserweight Title.)

Another pay-per-view event passes by and Paul London remains the Cruiserweight champion. With an impressive seven months now under his belt, London has proven himself as the best cruiserweight in GCW. But the cruiserweight division is really heating up, and there are many challengers breathing down his neck.

BACKSTAGE WITH MONTY BROWN
We were joined by "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown backstage getting pumped up for his World Heavyweight Title match tonight against Kurt Angle. Brown didn't have a lot to say, but one thing he made perfectly clear was that he was more than ready to take the next step and that step is the World Heavyweight championship. Many experts aren't giving Monty Brown much of a chance tonight due to the lack of experience, but upon hearing his comments here, I think you can throw experience out the window. The Alpha Male is a beast, and he's going to make the most out of his opportunity tonight.

Match #6
Television Title Match
CM Punk (c) (w/ Sean O'Haire & Daffney) vs. Matt Hardy (w/ Lita)
Matt Hardy is the latest target of CM Punk's aggression after Hardy rejected his offer to join the Prophecy. Punk was looking to make Hardy "pay for his transgressions" while Hardy was looking to earn his first taste of gold in Global Championship Wrestling. As per the usual, Punk had Sean O'Haire and Daffney with him, and O'Haire got himself involved early by nailing Hardy with a lariat on the floor. Referee Petey Pluck saw it, but rather than calling for the completely justifiable disqualification, Pluck sent O'Haire to the back. With Punk's henchman out of the picture, Hardy had a great shot at taking the Television Title. Hardy was rolling in the match, and for the first time since revealing himself as "He," Punk looked to be in serious trouble. Hardy had Punk set up for the Twist of Fate, but Punk shoved him off and right into Petey Pluck. Punk tried to capitalize with a kick to the gut and went for a double underhook piledriver, but Hardy reversed out of it and hit the Twist of Fate. He went for a cover, but with the ref unconscious, he couldn't win the title. He went over to revive Pluck, but when he bent over he was suddenly nailed with a hard right hand! It was... JEFF HARDY! And upon further inspection, that wasn't an ordinary punch, but rather one aided with brass knuckles. Matt Hardy was completely wiped out and Punk made the cover as a groggy Pluck made the slow 1-2-3.

CM Punk pinned Matt Hardy after Jeff Hardy interfered in 0:12:33.
Rating: **** 1/4
(CM Punk retained the GCW Television Title.)

Jeff Hardy was back, but why did he do this to his own brother? After the match as Punk got to his feet, Jeff Hardy grabbed the Television Title, dropped to his knees, and gave it to Punk as an offering of sorts. Jeff Hardy is the newest member of the Prophecy. What an unexpected turn of events.

Match #7
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian
The fans don't particularly like either AJ Styles or Frankie Kazarian, but these two dislike each other even more than that. This was a fantastic match, if not a bit spotty. These two both believe they are the cream of the crop in the cruiserweight division, and they were looking to prove it by hitting the other with the most spectacular high-flying moves they could muster. The crowd was very into this one, especially when Kazarian and Styles would pull out a huge dive to the outside. To be successful in the cruiserweight division, you have to be willing to put your body on the line, and these two are definitely willing to do that. after a great chain of counter wrestling, Kazarian finished this one off with the Wave of the Future and picked up a huge win that he needed.

Frankie Kazarian pinned AJ Styles with the Wave of the Future in 0:10:10.
Rating: ****

Kazarian wasn't happy simply winning this match as he wanted to make AJ Styles suffer, and he did that by throwing Styles to the outside and nailing him with a piledriver on the ringsteps! Styles was in a bad way and thankfully for his sake, the GCW Official Brigade got out there to prevent Kazarian from inflicting further damage. Styles was wheeled out on a gurney, and we found out that he suffered a neck injury and will have to miss a bit of time, but luckily for him, it could have been worse.

PAUL LONDON CONFRONTS FRANKIE KAZARIAN
As Frankie Kazarian came to the back quite content with his actions, he was met by the Cruiserweight champion Paul London. "I don't like AJ Styles, but what you did was uncalled for." Kazarian wasn't wanting to hear a lecture on morality, so he blew London off and tried to walk past him. London grabbed Kazarian's arm to stop him, to which Kazarian responded with a hard right hand. London responded in kind but not kindly and a fight was on! The Official Brigade continued their busy night by separating the two before it got too out of hand. We hear rumblings that London has been very vocal about getting a piece of Frankie Kazarian, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Match #8
"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Randy Orton
A lot of fans were looking forward to our next match, a Triple Threat encounter featuring Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and Eddie Guerrero. The friendship between Jericho and Orton has been disintegrating for weeks now, beginning after Jericho won the World Heavyweight Title. Jericho and Orton were both involved in a Fatal Fourway match a month ago at Beat Your Valentine, a match that saw Kurt Angle win and capture the World Heavyweight Title. Both Y2J and Orton have blamed the other for that loss, and as a result, their friendship has suffered. Guerrero came into the mix when a couple weeks ago prior to the match to determine the number-one contender for the World Title, Latino Heat was mysteriously attacked and couldn't wrestle the match. Orton took his place, and as a result, Latino Heat has blamed Orton for attacking him. That brings us to tonight.

These three are some of the best wrestlers in the world today, and they all were bringing it tonight. There weren't a lot of attempts for pinfalls early on as you have to not only take care of the person you are pinning, but also incapacitate the other man so he won't break it up. With Guerrero being the loose cannon here, Jericho and Orton surprised a lot of people by working together through much of the early stages of the contest, showing the cohesiveness they had while battling Kurt Angle and Steve Bradley back in November. That all changed after a double suplex on Latino Heat. Jericho went for the cover, but Orton pulled him off. Orton then went for the cover, and Jericho gave him the same treatment. Things degenerated from there and they exchanged blows. The match was crazy from then on, including Guerrero crashing and burning on an attempt to drive Orton through the announce table with the Frog Splash. This left Orton and Jericho to go at it, both men exchanging nearfalls. Guerrero showed his craftiness late though and proved that his motto of "lie, cheat, and steal" isn't just lip service. Jericho had Orton in the corner and mounted the turnbuckles for a 10-count punch, but while he was setting this up, Latino Heat was tying Orton's legs to the ringpost with video cables. Guerrero then got back in the ring and grabbed Y2J, and hit a vicious power bomb that knocked the wind right out of the former World champion. Orton tried desperately to break up the cover, but with his legs tied to the post, there was nothing he could do as Guerrero had stolen a victory.

Triangle Match:
Eddie Guerrero defeated Chris Jericho and Randy Orton when E. Guerrero pinned Jericho after a power bomb in 0:21:53.
Rating: *** 3/4

Eddie Guerrero got out of the ring in a hurry, leaving Y2J out and Orton infuriated. What is Orton going to think about Guerrero winning and more so that Jericho took the fall? We have learned that Orton has requested some interview time for tomorrow and it has been granted to him.

Match #9
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion)
We saw earlier that Monty Brown was ready to go for his World Heavyweight Title match. We had a good idea of what Kurt Angle's mindset was going to be, especially after getting a pinfall on Brown last week on Explosion. Brown is very good at not letting losses phase him, and he was pumped up for his shot at the biggest prize in the game. Angle was oozing his regular cockiness, thinking he would be able to outwrestle Brown with little effort. Boy was Angle in for a rude awakening. Brown completely controlled the tempo of this match, keeping things slow and deliberate, wearing Angle down with several power moves. Angle looked to do some mat wrestling to keep Brown neutralized, but Brown's pure power kept him on the advantage.

As the match continued, it looked more and more like Monty Brown was going to do this. Angle had the vast experience edge, but nothing he was doing seemed to work for too long. Angle caught a break when the Alpha Male had him up in a Gorilla press, but Angle's foot caught referee Jimmy Appleseed in the head, knocking him out. Brown saw this but stayed on Angle, throwing him into the corner and nailing the POUNCE! Brown hit the Olympic gold medalist so hard that it knocked him out to the floor. The crowd was on fire as Brown seemed destined to be the World Heavyweight champion, but things were about to change drastically. After taking some time to work the crowd, Brown went to the ropes to retrieve Angle, but he hadn't noticed that Angle was holding the World Heavyweight Title. Angle took a huge swing and cleaned Brown's clock. Brown fell to the mat like a tree that had been chopped down. Angle crawled in and draped an arm over Brown, barely getting a 1-2-3.

Kurt Angle pinned Monty Brown after hitting him with the title belt in 0:14:06.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Monty Brown dominated this match from bell to bell, bumping the World Heavyweight champion all around the ring. But at the end of the day, Kurt Angle still has the World Heavyweight Title around his waist. Angle's the World champion, but he didn't look strong in his victory. And although Brown didn't get it done tonight, it's hard not to think he has a World Heavyweight Title in his future.

I should be trying to sleep right now.  Tomorrow is a big day.  See what I do for you wrestle buddy? ;)

Any time Goldie and Booker win it's ok with me.  A 4-star lead in to the PPV isn't bad either.

I thought for sure Rhyno was going to overpower Rey here and take the title shot.  I have to believe Rhyno just isn't going to let this loss go though.

Hey, at least I've gotten one right.  WGTT retains.  Tough break for Ki & Skipper.  Could this mean a break up?  Or maybe they'll just try and help another team win the titles so they can go on to challenge them.

Yeah!  Ravishing!  The spirit of Rick Rude is alive!  BWA HA HA HA HA!  *cough cough hack wheez*  Anyhoo... :)  The fans may not be too behind them now, but I think that'll change with time.  Conway will have to carry the team as far as mic work goes, but I think he can do it.

Glad to see Abyss & Hurry get the win.  I think Abyss will be alright on his own.

Didn't think the Benoit/Angle match would end that way.  But it just goes to show Angle will do N-E-thing to keep his undefeated streak alive.  Nice bit here.

Hee hee... Chicken Suit=ratings

What the fug?  Jeff is back?  Color me shocked as all get out.  Hardy is in the Prophecy!  SWERVE!

Kazarian is a freakin' force.  When London calms down and things about this he's gotta start sweatin' bullets.

Monty has a fire, but Angle knows how to keep a belt any way possible.

Good stuff Ryan.  Good, good stuff. :)

Taking the style you guys use of responding segment to segment...

Not much to add to the pre-game show match, but fair play to Booker and Goldie for winning. Next challengers to TWGTT if they retain?

Decent opener, with no bells and whistles or anything. The Punk/Rey feud hasn't been totally explored yet, so I'm happy.

Yeah, I had to figure TWGTT would retain here. Question is, would Skipper and Ki look to assist anyone else in winning the titles in order for them to be elligible for another shot?

Star Quality eh? You can thank me later. ;)

So the Abyss push begins. The big monster with a heart wins, no surprises there. If he can crush JBL, he'd really be a big fan favourite. I smell big things come the Rumble...

Two things I'd wondered before this card - how could Benoit possibly say 'I Quit' even though I expected him to lose and why hadn't your pet project Steve Bradley done anything lately. And all wrapped up in a potentially AWESOME angle. Remind me what the name of your biggest PPV is again...

Credible loses? Poor guy, that's it for him I guess. London meanwhile, not sure where his next challenge lies. Kazarian hasn't had a huge shot at him, and there's that other turn later on that I had my suspicions about, he's a cruiserweight.

I CALLED IT! In my head, but I called Jeff Hardy coming back and turning on Matt all the same. God, I'm good. Right guy retained though.

Fair play to Kazarian, and that sets him up at a proper challenge at London now what with the aftermath.

Eddie wins, I should have got that one. Asides from him getting another bump up, it leaves Orton and Jericho free to blame one another and edge towards them finally going one on one.

Yeah, Angle retains. Naturally you had Brown look good in the process, whilst Angle looks like a sneaky jerk. To be honest, I can't see who you're lining up (if anyone) to dethrone Angle unless Brock is back soon. That's a good thing as far as Angle is concerned though.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/10/06 at 21:10:16

Though on paper this wasn't my best lineup going in, what with some predictable outcomes, but it really sets the stage for the coming months.

One thing I've always had trouble doing is booking main eventers when they're not directly involved in the main event.  The Jericho/Orton thing has just been falling into place on its own, but I've been struggling with what to do with Benoit.  I knew he had to lose to Eric Angle, and the result dawned on me as I was simming it.  Bradley's actions push past the bubble of reality a bit (he would have had to bring his own camera crew to do it), but less believeable things have went down in wrestling without a hitch before.  And I don't do these type of "farfetched" angles often.

My biggest show of the year is called Super Cade.

I'm excited about the next few months.  I'm happy with what I have plotted out, and failing any major injuries, I think it's going to come off well.  I judge my stuff on whether I would mark out for it or not, and the next few months have me excited.  Of course if I'm not excited about it, who else will be? :)

You already have to suspend disbelief slightly in wrestling when, using a GCW example, the cameras are always conveniently there to pick up some guy barging into the commissioners office just as we'd cut to them (why do we never cut there to see nothing happen?) It's not a criticism of course because we ALL do it but we can easily explain this one as some elaborate scheme that Bradley paid for, being part of the most powerful group in the GCW. I'd be more concerned about why he wasn't arrested... ;)

You will be happy to know that that will be addressed. :)

I personally think Eric Angle should get a World Title Shot. He's more then proved himself and can you think of a better plot than brother/brother for the Title?
