[GCW] Gold Rush - 1/13/05

Snabbit888Posted on 09/05/05 at 05:28:33

Gold Rush is in the books, and what an amazing night it was! Seven huge matches made up the card from the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, including the big one pitting Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho together in a steel cage for the World Heavyweight Title! The North American and World Tag Team Titles were also on the line with Monty Brown defending against undefeated Eric Angle and the World's Greatest Tag Team defending against the former champions, "Primetime" Elix Skipper and Low-Ki! This would truly be a night that I'm sure will be talked about for weeks to come!

* * * * *

The night started off stranger than we could have ever imagined. The first man to come down to the ring was surprisingly the GCW President Ryan Niemiller, along with his bodyguard Matt Morgan. Niemiller began by welcoming the fans and hyping up Gold Rush, but things soon turned serious when Niemiller told Morgan that he would no longer be needing his services. Morgan looked confused, but Niemiller assured him he had done nothing wrong. Morgan had served faithfully the last few months, and as a result, he was being moved to the active roster. Niemiller informed Morgan that his first match would be this Monday on Explosion and wished him the best of luck. Niemiller and Morgan shook hands before Morgan went to the back, obviously excited about his opportunity to wrestle.

If that wasn't strange enough, Niemiller continued by saying that in recent months, he has allowed the actions of the Prophecy to dictate his reactions and thus make him be impartial. Niemiller admitted to trying to stack the deck against Christopher Daniels at Best of the Best, and apologized for his actions to the fans. Niemiller went on to shock everyone by saying this would be his last night as the President of Global Championship Wrestling. Niemiller noted that he would still own a good chunk of the company, but he would not be directly responsible for the day-to-day promoting of matches. That job will be taken over by an anonymous panel of five, four of whose identities will remain secret to prevent situations such as what happened with Niemiller and the Prophecy. The fifth man will act as the official spokesman of the booking committee, and will be revealed this Monday on Explosion.

As Niemiller started to make his leave after giving his goodbye, the lights in the Mellon Arena went pitch black and the eerie red light hit the apron, signaling the arrival of the Prophecy. The mysterious "He" led the group with Christopher Daniels, Sean O'Haire, and Daffney following close behind. They steadily marched toward the ring, making a hasty Niemiller retreat next to impossible. "He" had a microphone and got in Niemiller's face, taunting the former President, asking if he wanted to know his identity. When Niemiller said he just wanted to leave, "He" had O'Haire grab Niemiller forcefully and make him listen. "He" screamed at Niemiller about how it's "not that easy" and how "one more sacrifice must be made." As Niemiller stared a hole through "He," the cloaked figure slowly pulled his hood back to reveal... CM PUNK? CM Punk is in Global Championship Wrestling! Punk has been controlling the Prophecy from afar for all these months, but why? What beef did he have with Niemiller? We didn't get the answer tonight as O'Haire scooped Niemiller up and dropped him with the Prophecy. CM Punk smiled as Niemiller was out in the center of the ring. Punk threw a nod at Christopher Daniels, who stood straddling Niemiller's prone body and then removed the cross from around his neck. The Fallen Angel lifted it high into the air, bringing it down onto Niemiller's throat! Niemiller was writhing in pain on the mat as CM Punk had this big sadistic smile across his face. Before more damage could be done, REY MYSTERIO JR. and RHYNO were in the ring, causing the Prophecy to scatter long enough for the EMTs to carefully get Niemiller out of the ring.

Match #1
Rey Mysterio Jr./Rhyno vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (Television champion)/Sean O'Haire (w/ CM Punk & Daffney)
After Niemiller was helped to the back and taken to a local hospital, we had our opening contest which put Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno against Television champion Christopher Daniels and Sean O'Haire. CM Punk, who was revealed as the mysterious He, was down at ringside, and his intentions were very obvious. Punk wants to see the destruction of many of the top stars in GCW, and as of yet, we're not exactly sure why. With former President Ryan Niemiller out of the picture, Punk and the Prophecy look to be rid of Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno next. Throughout this match, Punk got in as many cheap shots as he could to wear down Mysterio and Rhyno. Mysterio has been dealing with these tactics from the Prophecy for months though, overcoming odds like this many times, and Rhyno has made it quite clear that he is a tough man to handle, and that he has his eyes set on the Television Title. Late in the match, after Rhyno tagged in Mysterio after suffering a bit of a beating from the Prophecy, Mysterio jumped in a house of fire, nailing Daniels with a springboard dropkick. Mysterio abused Daniels, nailing him with leg lariats, and a very painful looking sunset flip power bomb that garnered a nearfall. Mysterio then hit the 6-1-9 and was looking for the West Coast Pop, but CM Punk directed O'Haire to get Daniels and pull him out of the ring. Punk told his troops to live to fight another day, walking them to the back for the countout loss.

Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno defeated The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels and Sean O'Haire) when Mysterio Jr. defeated Daniels by countout in 0:08:12.
Rating: ***

The crowd was furious, but not nearly as much as Rey Mysterio Jr. and Rhyno were. This one is certainly not over by any stretch of the imagination, as we have learned that the first two matches officially signed for the next pay-per-view, Winter Warfare, to take place from the Fleet Center in Boston, Massachusetts on January 30th, will be Rey Mysterio Jr. going head on with Sean O'Haire, and Christopher Daniels defending his Television Title against Rhyno!

We then cut to the backstage area, and boy, does this night keep getting stranger. GCW official Petey Pluck was standing in front of a large scale along side a member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission for Justin Credible's weigh-in. Credible was running a little late. Pluck and the PAC member were about to leave when Credible burst into the room - in a chicken suit. Yes, Justin Credible was standing in a giant chicken suit, the only part of him exposed being his face. Pluck asked Credible why he was in a chicken suit, to which the potential Cruiserweight Title challenger said, "I'm trying to make weight!" Pluck asked, "Why on earth are you in a chicken suit though!?" Credible paused for a minute with a blank look on his face before yelling, "Shark Boy said it would be a good idea!" As Pluck did his best to stifle his laughter, Credible jumped on the scale. The PAC member carefully checked before declaring that Credible was 226 - one pound over the limit for the Cruiserweight Title. Pluck suggested that Credible was close and that if he took off the chicken suit he might be at 225. Credible was shocked and offended, yelling, "I'm naked under this, you pervert!" Pluck followed up by suggesting that Credible go put his gear on then, causing Credible's face to drop. "I forgot my gear at the hotel." Not only does Credible NOT get a Cruiserweight Title shot tonight, but he's going to have to wrestle Paul London in the chicken suit (or naked, whichever he chooses... I hope it's the former). Not a good night to be Justin Credible.

Match #2
North American Title Match
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. Eric Angle
Eric Angle had a very strong case coming into this North American Title match against reigning champion, Monty Brown. Sure, at Best of the Best, Brown successfully defended his title against Angle and Eddie Guerrero in a triple threat match, but he got the fall on Guerrero, not Angle. Angle had his one-on-one match for the gold now just like he wanted, but Monty Brown isn't the type of guy many people want to go one-on-one with. He's not called the Alpha Male for nothing; this guy is 100% man. Angle tried to wrestle Brown early, and to an extent, it worked. Brown's not going to beat you with his knowledge of amateur wrestling moves. What he is going to beat you with is his scary strength and raw intensity that not many in the wrestling world can match. As Brown was slamming Angle all over the ring, it looked as if the undefeated challenger was regretting his desire to go toe-to-toe with this beast. Angle was on the ropes (literally and figuratively) when Brown charged at him with an attempt at the Pounce, but Angle low-bridged him and sent the 275-pound Brown toppling hard to the floor. Angle knew he couldn't win the title with Brown on the floor, so he went out to get Brown, but Brown recovered and threw Angle into the ringsteps, causing the challenger to crack his shoulder. Brown threw Angle back in the ring, Angle clutching his shoulder. Referee Antonio Santangelo went to check on Angle, asking him if he could continue. Though he was doing the right thing, it left him blind to EDDIE GUERRERO nailing Monty Brown over the head with a chair! Brown crumpled to the floor as Guerrero escaped through the crowd. Brown was unable to get back in the ring before Santangelo's ten count, giving Angle the countout victory.

Eric Angle defeated Monty Brown by countout in 0:06:29.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Monty Brown retained the GCW North American Title.)

Guerrero's attack here was two-fold in that not only did he get to cause physical abuse to Monty Brown, but he also screwed Eric Angle out of the North American Title. Not only is Guerrero going to have an angry Monty Brown and Eric Angle looking for him, but he still has to contend with Shawn Michaels later tonight.

Match #3
Non-Title Match
Paul London (Cruiserweight champion) vs. Justin Credible
I'm not even exactly sure how to describe this match. On one side, Paul London, the very impressive young Cruiserweight champion since last August, ready to go. On the other, Justin Credible... in a chicken suit. In Credible's quest to make weight for a Cruiserweight Title shot, he rented a giant chicken suit, presumably at Shark Boy's encouragement, to sweat off those last couple of pounds. He got close at 226, but he was so focused on losing the weight that he forgot to bring his gear to the arena, and now had to wrestle this match as a giant freaking chicken. To Credible's credit, he tried to fight, but the suit wasn't exactly conducive to movement. His hands weren't even free to throw a punch as they were caught up in the wings. Credible did peck London a couple of times, but London pretty much just had fun in this one, easily putting the chicken away.

Paul London pinned Justin Credible after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:05:47.
Rating: ****

This night had the potential to turn out well for Credible, but how things can go terribly terribly wrong. Paul London now looks forward to the winner of tonight's Cruiserweight Chaos to see who he'll be defending the title against at Winter Warfare. Justin Credible goes on to cook up some other crazy scheme to get a Cruiserweight Title shot.

* * * * *

We had already seen him once before, but we went backstage where "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero cut a promo. Guerrero had that distant look in his eyes as he said tonight would be the end of Shawn Michaels' career. HBK's back has slowly been giving way on him for weeks now and Guerrero said he would finish the job once and for all and rid the wrestling world of The Heartbreak Kid. Eddie's focus shifted to Monty Brown and the North American Title. Eddie said that Brown proved he was weak earlier and challenged him to a title match to take place at Winter Warfare, and even upped the ante by wanting to make it no-holds-barred! We have learned that the Alpha Male is more than game and gas accepted the challenge, and the two will go at it at Winter Warfare!

Match #4
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero
A few months ago, Shawn Michaels and Eddie Guerrero were close friends, teaming up on several occasions to do battle with the Sensationals. Since then, Guerrero has went down a much darker path, turning his back on friends and family alike. HBK was the last man in GCW who might actually call Latino Heat his friend, but that changed a couple of weeks ago after a backstage scuffle between the two. Guerrero has vowed to put HBK away once and for all tonight, and he wrestled that way in the match. Michaels had the advantage for much of the early half of the match. The 20-plus year veteran used Guerrero's aggressiveness against him, frustrating him with many armdrags, hiptosses, and armbars. Guerrero kept taking powders to the outside to put some distance between himself and the Heartbreak Kid, but Michaels became impatient himself and went to the floor after Latino Heat. Michaels went to whip Guerrero into ringsteps, but Eddie reversed it and sent HBK into the steps instead. Eddie could smell the blood as he picked Michaels up and drove his spine into the ringpost.

Guerrero got a twisted smile on his face as he started to go to work on Michaels' fragile back. Michaels screamed with pain as Latino Heat nailed him with hard shots to the back, including a devastating tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. With every strike, Guerrero's twisted curled smile got bigger and bigger, and after hitting the Three Amigos, Guerrero rolled HBK onto his stomach and climbed to the top. Michaels showed he still had a little fight left in him as he rolled out of the way of Guerrero's Frog Splash. The Showstopper kipped up as the crowd got behind him. Michaels chopped Guerrero back into the corner before whipping him across the ring. Guerrero bounced back into the ring where HBK took him down with a flying forearm. After the flying elbowdrop, HBK was tuning up the band for the Sweet Chin Music. As Michaels went for it, Guerrero pulled referee JD Sanders in the way. Luckily for Sanders, HBK saw it coming and held up, but it gave Eddie the window to nail an unnoticed low blow on the former North American champion. A brain buster and Frog Splash later and Eddie Guerrero was walking out of Gold Rush with a win.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Shawn Michaels with the Frog Splash in 0:14:05.
Rating: **** 1/4

Eddie Guerrero had won, but he said earlier in the night he was going to put Michaels on the shelf, and that's what he had in mind as he grabbed a steel chair from ringside. HBK pulled himself up by the ropes which left him prone to a hard shot to the back from the chair. As HBK hit the mat, things were going to get worse as Eddie reached under the ring and pulled out a sledgehammer! JD Sanders pleaded with Eddie to put the hammer down, but Eddie would not be swayed as nailed Sanders with a hard right hand and threw him out of the ring. Eddie then lifted the sledgehammer up and brought it down hard on Michaels' back not once, but twice! Shawn Michaels wasn't moving as the GCW Official Brigade finally got into the ring and managed to subdue Eddie and get him out of the ring so that the already busy medical staff could tend to Michaels. As of right now, we don't have a full update on Michael's condition, but we will let you know this Monday on Explosion. Eddie Guerrero needs some help, and badly. This was disgusting.

Match #5
Cruiserweight Chaos II
Winner receives Cruiserweight Title shot at Winter Warfare
Participants: The Hurricane, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, Teddy Hart, Petey Williams, Shark Boy, Frankie Kazarian (DEBUT !!!)
Eight of the finest cruiserweights in he world were all in the same ring, all vying for a shot at Paul London's Cruiserweight Title. The rules for this match were simple - all eight men in the ring at the same time, wrestlers are eliminated by pinfall or submission. The last man standing would become the number-one contender and wrestle London at Winter Warfare. These eight had a huge task ahead of them to get the crowd back going after what had transpired with Eddie Guerrero and Shawn Michaels, but they were up to the challenge, no one more so than AJ Styles. Since GCW's inception, Styles has been adamant about not wanting to wrestle for the Cruiserweight Title, but a budding rivalry with London is what put him into this match. Styles definitely stepped up his game tonight, looking to send a clear message to Paul London. Consider that message sent.

The action was fast and furious as they all looked to make the first elimination. This match had a strange dynamic to it early on as the eight men broke into four teams of two. Of course, the Hardy Boyz and Team Canada were working as units, as well as The Hurricane and Shark Boy. The wild cards were Styles and newcomer Frankie Kazarian, who was making his debut in this match. They didn't seem to trust each other much, but they worked together to eliminate The Hurricane by using a legsweep/spin kick combo, Styles making the fall. A few moments later, the Hardyz/Team Canada rivalry was rekindled, leading to Matt Hardy hitting the Twist of Fate on Petey Williams, leaving us with six men remaining.

At this point, AJ Styles and kicked it into overdrive, picking the other men off one by one. Jeff Hardy would be the first to go down. Jeff missed a huge suicide dive to the outside, barely grazing Teddy Hart but mostly hitting guardrail. Jeff was in no position to fight back after that, falling into a Northern Lights suplex from Styles. Styles would pin his third man of the match a few minutes later when he crotched Matt Hardy on the top rope, pulled him off the top and planted him with a huge power bomb. With the aid of the feet on the ropes, Styles had single handedly eliminated the Hardy Boyz.

We were down to four men - Styles, Kazarian, Shark Boy, and Teddy Hart. Teddy Hart of course won the first Cruiserweight Chaos match and had a great strategy employed, doing his best to stay out of harm's way while the other men went at it. Styles and Kazarian were going to go after Hart, but Hart coyly slid out of the ring. Shark Boy knew he was going to be outnumbered, so he struck before Styles and Kazarian could. Shark Boy was rolling as the crowd began to believe that he was going to pull this off, beating his foes to the punch over and over with his eccentric tactics. He looked to have Styles close to elimination as he set him up for the Dead Sea Drop in the corner, but Kazarian cracked him with a big league enzuigiri. Shark Boy was out on his feet and easy prey for Styles' Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT.

There were only three men left now, and Kazarian offered a handshake to Styles to team up against Teddy Hart. Hart had a worried look on his face as Kazarian and Styles shook. The Future turned to Hart and goaded him into the ring, but he soon learned that in GCW, alliances can end in a heartbeat as Styles nailed him with the Pele kick. Styles rolled the Future up in a Victory Roll which was enough to hold him down for three. Teddy Hart had been watching this and sprinted to the ring to get the jump on Styles, but the Phenomenal One saw it coming and quickly reacted with a Northern Lights suplex. It was enough to knock the wind out of Hart and get the final fall.

[Cruiserweight Chaos II]: 8-Man Battle Royal:
AJ Styles won an 8-man Battle Royal:
x AJ Styles defeated Hurricane after a legsweep in 0:05:46
x M. Hardy defeated P. Williams after the Twist Of Fate in 0:06:55
x AJ Styles defeated J. Hardy after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:10:47
x AJ Styles defeated M. Hardy after a power bomb in 0:15:43
x AJ Styles defeated Shark Boy after an Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT in 0:18:56
x AJ Styles defeated Kazarian after a Victory Roll in 0:19:32
x AJ Styles defeated Teddy Hart after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:19:36
Rating: *****

What an absolutely great match and an even more dominating performance by AJ Styles. Styles proved that he has the capabilities to absolutely dominate the ring when he wants to, getting the pin on six of the seven competitors in this match to earn the Cruiserweight Title shot against Paul London at Winter Warfare. After the match, London himself came out to the ring and got into a staredown with the new number-one contender. As the two jawed at each other, it was cut short when Frankie Kazarian nailed Styles from behind, causing his had to crash into London's. Kazarian scooped Styles up and hit the Wave of the Future, wiping Styles out. London went for a clothesline on Kazarian, but the Future ducked it and hit the Cruiserweight champ with the Wave of the Future as well. Frankie Kazarian may not have won the match, but he certainly made his mark on GCW.

Match #6
World tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper/Low-Ki
A month ago at Best of the Best when the World's Greatest Tag Team defeated Elix Skipper and Low-Ki for the World Tag Team Titles, Skipper and Low-Ki were admittedly unprepared. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas are considered by many experts to be the best tag team in the world today, and I don't think that Skipper and Ki were ready for it. They worked very hard over the holiday break though, watching a lot of tape and hitting the gym hard, and it paid off 10 days ago when they were able to defeat the WGTT in a six-man tag team match. They were ready for the champions, but say what you want about Haas and Benjamin, but they are ALWAYS ready for big matches. That's why they're three-time World Tag Team champions.

As this match wore on, you could see this one deteriorating. What started out with great technical wrestling and the great use of tag team knowledge began to turn into an all out brawl. Referee Petey Pluck was doing everything in his power to keep this one under control, but he was but one man. The match got completely carried away when all four men spilled into the ring and were going at it. Pluck did everything he could to restore order, but after Skipper and Haas shoved him out of the way to go at each other, Pluck had no choice but to throw this one out.

Elix Skipper and Low-Ki and The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) battled to a double disqualification in 0:13:33.
Rating: ****
(The World's Greatest Tag Team retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The crowd voiced its disapproval at the decision, wanting to see a decisive finish to this one. They were really getting into the fight though as four men who usually go about their business using their technical skills were brawling all over the ringside area! Officials came in to try to break it up, but there was no pulling these four apart as they brawled all the way to the back. I'm sure with the way this ended, this one is far from over.

Before our main event, Mario Riviera was standing by with Randy Orton. As a result of winning the Best of the Best tournament, Orton will meet the World Heavyweight champion at the February pay-per-view, Beat Your Valentine. Riviera asked Orton if he had a preference for who he'd rather face at Beat Your Valentine, Kurt Angle or Chris Jericho. Orton said that it really didn't matter whether it be Angle or Jericho. What matters is that becoming the World Heavyweight champion is his destiny, and he came close once before. This time, nothing is going to stop him from winning the title. Riviera asked if due to his friendship with Chris Jericho if that would affect him in the match. Orton said that while Jericho and he are friends and allies, when it comes to the World Heavyweight Title, from bell to bell, friendships go out the window. To be a World champion in this business, you have to have that killer instinct and know that there is a time for friendship and there is a time for getting the job done, and Randy Orton "always gets the job done."

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
Steel Cage Match for the World Heavyweight Title
Kurt Angle (c) vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho were looking to settle their feud once and for all tonight over the World Heavyweight Title, and what better way to do it than with a steel cage match? This cage match was set up as a result of the way that Angle retained the title a month ago with a lot of help from Team Angle. It was thus decided that if any member of Team Angle even so much as appeared at ringside during this match, the match would be stopped and Chris Jericho would be awarded the World Heavyweight Title. It should also be noted that this particular cage match was being wrestled under pinfalls and submission rules only. We weren't interested in seeing who was the best climber, but rather who had what it takes to get it done.

This match turned out to be a marathon. Kurt Angle and Y2J are two of the best conditioned athletes in wrestling today, and they knew that this one could have come down to simply who was in better shape. The opening minutes of the contest were very much a feeling out period, both men a little intimidated by the menacing cage that surrounded them. Angle wanted to wear Jericho down on the mat so that Jericho would be more prone to attacks with the cage. Jericho's strategy early was to hit and move, because nobody can go hold for hold with the World Heavyweight champion on the mat. After some back and forth action, the intense meanstreak of the World champion kicked in after catching Jericho in a belly-to-belly suplex. Angle then got Y2J in the mount position and opened a cut up over Jericho's right eye with hard punches.

As the blood poured from Jericho's head, he was in a bad way, defenseless against the Olympic gold medalist's assaults. Jericho kept fighting back though, doing whatever he could to keep going. Jericho needed to buy himself some recovery time and fast, and that wouldn't come until he was trapped in the Ankle Lock from Angle. Angle didn't have the hold locked in as securely as he should have, which allowed Jericho to turn his body and kick Angle off, sending him head first into the cage! When Angle hit the mat, blood began to trickle out of his forehead as he was busted open as well.

From this point on, it was a testament to these two competitors and just how important the World Heavyweight Title is. Both men were bloody, bruised, and beaten, but they kept reaching down and pulling out a big move from seemingly nowhere. The crowd as on the edge of its seat as these two combatants exchanged the advantage, back and forth, back and forth. Angle managed to catch the Angle Slam on Y2J but after Jericho kicked out, he knew he had to hit something big, climbing to the top rope. However, because of how battered he was, Jericho had time to recover and slam Angle's face into the steel. Angle kept climbing to try to get away, but that turned out to be a bad move as he couldn't get away fast enough allowing Jericho to nail him with a belly-to-back suplex from the top of the cage! Both men were completely wiped out as the crowd chanted "HOLY SHIT!" (and rightfully so). Jericho started to stir first, albeit slowly. Suddenly the crowd turned its attention toward the aisle as ERIC ANGLE was running down to the ring! What on earth was he doing here? We didn't know, but it was a safe bet that he wasn't there to help Chris Jericho. Jericho headed for the cage, but Eric Angle reached through and nailed him with a punch to the throat.

What an ingenious plan by Kurt Angle! When the edict was made about this match, it was said that if a member of Team Angle came down to ringside and interfered, the title would be awarded to Jericho. However, Eric Angle isn't a member of Team Angle, so the World champion had found a loophole. Eric Angle climbed over the cage and into the ring, putting Jericho in a very precarious position. Jericho tried to fight the Angles off, but he was simply too beaten up to fend against two high-calibar athletes, especially one that for all intents and purposes was fresh. Kurt and Eric were taking turns taking shots at Y2J, leaving the challenger a battered, bloody mess. Kurt and Eric shook hands and embraced, showing that they are united as one in Global Championship Wrestling. But those smiles turned to looks of shock when the music of BROCK LESNAR started! Lesnar was here, and here comes the pain! Lesnar tried to climb into the ring, but the Angle brothers kept knocking him down. Lesnar was getting angrier and angrier every time he was knocked down, which just made Kurt Angle laugh, thinking he was safe. How wrong he was as in a fit of rage, Lesnar literally RIPPED THE DOOR OFF! Lesnar ripped the door off of the solid steel cage and was now in the ring. Kurt shoved his brother into Lesnar to cut him off, but Lesnar scooped him up and hit a huge spinebuster. Lesnar whipped Eric Angle into the ropes and nailed him with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex! Lesnar dumped Eric out the door, leaving him all alone with Kurt Angle! The crowd was in a frenzy as they've been waiting for this showdown for a long time. Angle begged off before trying to sneak in a cheap shot, but Lesnar blocked it and fired away at Angle. After a couple of clothesline, Lesnar hit Angle with a huge backbody drop. Standing headscissors... power bomb to Kurt Angle! There wasn't a person in the building standing as the Monster From Minnesota threw Angle on his shoulder and nailed the F-5! The crowd was going nuts as Lesnar grabbed the motionless Jericho and dragged him over and placed him on top of Angle... one, two... THREE! WE HAVE A NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!

No-Time-Limit-No-Countout-No-DQ-Cage Match:
Chris Jericho defeated Kurt Angle after outside interference from Brock Lesnar in 0:43:22.
Rating: *****
(Chris Jericho won the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

What a match! With an assist from Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho is the new World Heavyweight champion! We went off the air as Brock Lesnar left the ring, his job done, and with Randy Orton and Chris Benoit joined Jericho in the ring to celebrate! What a way to end Gold Rush!

Be sure to join us this Monday as Explosion comes to you live from the MCI Center in Washington D.C.! We know that we will have the announcement of who the new commissioner of GCW, as well as Chris Benoit will take on Steve Bradley in a rematch from Best of the Best, along with the wrestling debut of Matt Morgan! And we have learned that in hopes of ending the feud once and for all, a streetfight has been signed between Eric Angle and Eddie Guerrero! What a night it will be!

Yay!  Gold Rush!

Niemiller rids of Morgan?  Have you been going to Coldwater without me?!?! :)

Last night?... mmmmmwhaaaaaaaa??

YES!  CM PUNK!  *marks the fug out*  Definitely worth the wait.

NIEMILLER'S DEAD! :'(

Boo to countout finishes :) hee hee.  Great debut for Punk.  Countout will work nicely to help build to their matches at winter warfare.

*marks out for Credible in a chicken suit*  Bumbling chicken-Justin is great.  See?  He can be funny without a yellow jockstrap on his head. ;D

There's a new sitcom for you... Everybody hates Eddie.  :)  Angle still undefeated but sans title.  I figured he was gonna take the strap.  Oh well.

:D  He pecked London, that's great.  That's the greatest spot ever.

Great match with Guerrero/Michaels.  Damn, you're killing off everyone... ok... two people.  :P  Next on the GCW Death Watch: Monty Brown.  I think Guerrero is going to give him a right good thrashing in their NA title match.

Not surprised with a Styles win by any means.  He and London have the feud burning.  Am surprised that Hart lasted longer than Kazarian.  Figured the Future would at least be the last eliminated.  But the mark has been made.  Kazarian will be a force in the GCW.  I think he'll be the "Future" of the cruiserweight division, pardon the pun.

Eric may not be a member of Team Angle now, but it looks like he will be after tonight. :)  Lesnar=The Incredible Hulk apparently :)  Definitely didn't expect Jericho to take the title home tonight, but I like that he did.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 09/19/05 at 03:05:35

Lessee...  I owe you some feedback.  Hmm.

Ryan Niemiller decides to resign.  Yanno, I really approve of this, mainly because it's always taken me out of my suspension of disbelief when people write themselves into their promotions in prominent positions.  And HE is... CM Punk!  Woo!  Of course, I DID know it was coming, but...  heh heh.  And Niemiller eats a Prophecy from the Prophecy on the way out.  It's funny because the stable and the finisher have the same name!

Speaking of Punk, Punk decides that a countout defeat is better for his followers than a real defeat.  He who fights and runs away lives to heel another day!

Haha!  Justin Credible is gonna wrestle in a chicken costume!

Eric Angle continues his undefeated streak but doesn't take the title, because Eddie Guerrero comes after... Monty Brown?  I still don't get Eddie's feud with Brown.  It doesn't make sense to me.  At least screwing Angle SORT OF makes sense.

Paul London squashes Chicken Boy.  Good.  Job, Credible!  Job!

Eddie G defeats Shawn Michaels, then steals Triple H's sledgehammer to try to killify HBK for good.  Booo!  You're such a heel, Eddie!  Michaels has his guts splattered all over the ring by Eddie, who proceeds to make sausages out of his innards, and feed them to Michaels as he lays dying.  Either that or there's an injury angle.  One of those.

And... AJ Styles KILLS the entire Cruiserweight roster.  Nice buildup for a London vs. Styles match down the line, but... you DID sort of bury the rest of your cruiserweights pretty badly right there.  Not sure I like the booking for this match.

The Artists formerly known as Triple X and Team Angle go to a double DQ.  Nice little match that I wish I could have really seen.

Finally, Chris Jericho defeats Kurt An... Holy crap!  Kurt Angle dropped the title!  To Jericho!  I... really am not sure what to say.  This title change was definately unexpected, but I'm not sure that I buy Jericho as being on the same level as Angle, Benoit and Brock in GCW.  We shall see how it turns out.

Nice solid PPV despite the fact that I disagree with a few of the booking decisions.
