Welcome to the debut of the Great Lakes Wrestling Federation!  We're emanating from our GLWF facilities in Kalamazoo, Michigan for GLWF TV live on WCAB-TV 83!  Tonight we're kicking things off with a bang as we start off the journey towards crowning the very first Great Lakes Heavyweight champion and there is some fierce competition in the tournament.  Tonight we'll be showcasing side A of the tournament which will feature Jimmy Jacobs versus Sonny Siaki, Tyson Dux versus Austin Aries, Josh Abercrombie versus Garrison Cade and Samoa Joe versus Rene Dupree.  Let's get things started by going down to the ring where our ring announcer Clara Michaels is reading and waiting.

Clara Michaels: Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Great Lakes Wrestling Federation!  Our first match is a first round match in the Great Lakes Heavyweight title tournament and is scheduled for one fall.  Introducing first, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, weighing in at 169lbs... "The Barbaric Berserker" Jimmy Jacobs!  *Jacobs enters to cheers as he husses his way down to the ring*  And his opponent, hailing from the isle of Samoa, weighing in at 242lbs... "Ace in the Hole" Sonny Siaki!  *Siaki doesn't seem to pay much attention to the boos as he makes his way to the ring.  It looks like he's concentrating on the match at hand.*

The match started out with some nice basic chain wrestling.  Jacobs kept coming out on top and Siaki quickly got frustrated with him.  After one exchange Jacobs latched a headlock on that Siaki couldn't break off quickly.  Siaki managed to get free by hitting a hard back suplex and followed it with a few higher impact moves that payed off for him.  Jacobs got several close counts just from countering Siaki at oppertune times, but for the most part Siaki stayed on top.  Jacobs managed a short comeback, but when he tried to go up top he was shoved to the floor by Siaki.  The fans seemed pretty convinced that Jacobs wasn't gonna come out on top tonight and started giving Siaki a much better heel reaction than he had originally recieved.  After adding insult to injury on the outside he rolled Jacobs in at 8 and hit the Siakolypse NOW.  Jacobs was too close to the ropes though and he managed to get a leg on it at 2.  Siaki thought he had it won and wasted valuable time celebrating while the ref tried to tell him he hadn't actually won.  When he finally realized what the ref was saying Jimmy had stumbled to his feet.  Siaki quickly grabbed him and hit another Siakolypse NOW, though since he was concerned with hitting it fast it was obviously he didn't do as much damage to Jacobs as he could of and Jacobs kicked at 2.9 which seemed to stun Siaki beyond belief.  Filled to the brim with frustration Siaki began choking Jacobs with his foot and almost got himself DQed.  More valuable time was wasted as the ref scolded Siaki for his illegal actions.  Jacobs began to stir again slightly.  Siaki picked him up for a samoan drop but Jacobs wiggled free and slid off behind Siaki shoving him into the ropes in the process.  Siaki ducked a clothesline on his way back and bounced off the far side.  He didn't dodge again though as Jacobs hit him with a hard headbutt.  Then another.  It looked like both were just about equally as dizzy after that last one as they both stumbled a little.  They stumbled into eachother and Jacobs hit a sitdown faceslam and covered Siaki for the pin.

[Great Lakes Heavyweight Title Tourney - Round 1]:
Jimmy Jacobs pinned Sonny Siaki after a faceslam in 0:14:03.

A great way to start off the federation.  Jacobs advances to the next round though it didn't seem like he was going to for most of the match.  Jacobs and really showed that he can stick in there and come back.  He may be small, but he's got a lot of fight in him.  Wait... Siaki has hijacked a microphone from our ring announcer.

Sonny Siaki: What in the heck was that?  Seriously, what was that?!  I... I lost.  I'm not a loser.  I'm a winner.  I should have won.  It's me that should be one step closer to the Great Lakes Heavyweight title, not that little fruit cake.  I am not a loser.  I'm not.  I'm not a loser *Siaki drops the microphone and walks to the back, still muttering that he's not a loser as a good portion of the crowd is chanting "loser" at him*

It looks like something in Sonny Siaki may have snapped already.  GLWF has only been open for about 15 minutes and it appears that the Ace in the Hole might have fallen off the deep end.  Let's send it down to Clara once again for our second match of the evening.

Clara Michaels: This match is a first round match in the Great Lakes Heavyweight title tournament and is scheduled for one fall.  Now on his way to the ring, fighting out of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, weighing in at 185lbs... "Textbook" Tyson Dux!  And his opponent, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin... weighing in at 202lbs... Austin Aries!

Aries and Dux start off by circling eachother a little.  Aries dodges too lock up attempts by Dux and proceeds to follow each dodge up with some cocky banter to the crowd.  Aries does it a third time, but Dux is done fooling around and after Aries ducks the lock up, Dux quickly turns and hits a dropkick right to the back of Aries' right leg.  Dux tries to work Aries' leg but Austin gets in control after a well placed thumb to Tyson's eye.  Aries locks in an octopus hold right after and Dux tries to reach for the rope but is just barely too far away.  He fights out of the hold and hits another dropkick to Aries' right leg that takes him down to the mat.  He tries to capitalize by grabbing Aries' legs, but Aries shoves him off and Dux falls through the ropes.  Dux is out just long enough for Aries to recover and Aries gets on the attack as Dux rolls back into the ring.  Aries breaks Dux down with a lot of basic slams and holds and smartly dodges Dux's attempts at further attack on his leg.  Aries runs into the ropes and knocks Dux down with a hard back elbow for a 2 count.  Aries picks up Dux and runs into the ropes again, but is met with an explosive belly-to-belly suplex.  Both men are down and begin to stir as the ref reaches 6.  Aries is up first but can't get the upper hand as Dux out brawls him and sends him down with a flying cross body press for a 2 of his own.  Dux didn't let Aries get up and locked in his Texas Cloverleaf.  The fans cheered as they thought for sure Dux had Aries, but Aries dragged himself and Tyson over to the ropes and Dux had to release the hold.  He stayed in control though untill Aries blocked a punch and pulled him up on his shoulders for a somersault slam which he finished with a cradle for 2.  The complete to the ref about a slow count and it seemed Dux had been stunned a little by getting hit with the move out of no where, allowing Aries to stay on the attack for a short time.  Dux got a lucky spot though and pulled Aries' legs out from under him, once more locking in the Texas Cloverleaf.  This time Austin didn't have to try as hard to get to the ropes and was close enough that the little effort he could give was enough to grab the bottom rope and get Tyson to release his finisher.  Dux lifted Aries up and layed in with some punches before whipping Aries into the corner.  He charged in, but Aries moved out of the way and Dux went chest first into the turnbuckles.  Aries quickly turned him around and lifted him up onto the turnbuckle while Tyson was stunned.  He climbed up as well and his a vicious looking top-rope DDT.

[Great Lakes Heavyweight Title Tourney - Round 1]:
Austin Aries pinned Tyson Dux after a top-rope DDT in 0:13:17.

That's two matches down, two to go.  Now we'll find out exactly who Jimmy Jacobs will be facing in the quarterfinals, scheduled to take place February 5th.

Clara Michaels: Our next match is a first round match in the Great Lakes Heavyweight title tournament and is scheduled for one fall.  Now coming to the ring... from Kalamazoo, Michigan... weighing in at 195lbs... Josh Abercrombie! *Abercrombie gets a good 'hometown' reaction.* and his opponent... from San Antonio, Texas... weighing in at 271lbs... Garrison Cade! *Cade comes to the ring in Shawn Michaels-esque attire and acts with Shawn Michaels-esque manurism, albeit with less charisma than HBK himself.  He taunts the fans into booing him as he goes to the ring.*

It appears that Cade has decided to take a page out of his trainer's notebook.  Not only the crowd, but Josh Abercrombie weren't quite sure what to make of it at first.  Was Cade serious?  Apparently the answer to that question was a definite and outstanding yes and he attacked Abercrombie before the bell and tore into him pretty good.  After soundly stunning Abercrombie Cade removed his entrance attire.  Abercrombie tried to attack him from behind as he was finishing up but to no avail.  Cade just stayed ontop of Abercrombie and overpowered him at every turn.  Cade hits a hard bodyslam and goes up top for a beautiful elbowdrop.  He gets a two before the ref realizes he's holding Josh's tights and stops the count.  It didn't seem like Abercrombie really had a chance.  Every attempt to get the upper hand was quickly thwarted and it appeared that Josh quickly ran out of ideas to stop the whooping he was recieving.  Finally Abercrombie blocked an inverted DDT attempt and knocked Cade back into the ropes with a dropkick.  He went for a springboard enzuigiri but Cade ducked and Josh went sailing down to the mat.  Cade lifted him up by his hair and planted him with an inverted DDT that looks like it could have dented the ring.

[Great Lakes Heavyweight Title Tourney - Round 1]:
Garrison Cade pinned Josh Abercrombie after an inverted DDT in 0:05:07.
Rating: * 1/2

Garrison Cade has made a dominant impact in his GLWF debut.  He's now set to face Jimmy Jacobs in the quarter-finals and Jacobs has to be more than a little worried after the display Cade put on.  Speaking of quarter-final opponents, it's now time for the main event and time to see who Austin Aries will be trying to defeat in February.

Clara Michaels: This next match is a Great Lakes Heavyweight title tournament first round match that is scheduled for one fall and is the main event of the evening.  Introducing first, hailing from Orange County, California... weighing in at 270lbs... Samoa Joe! *Joe gets a great ovation as he makes his entrance.  He enters wearing a polynesian looking robe and has a shell necklace around his neck and he gives to a lucky young fan at ringside.*  And his opponent... from Paris, France... weighing in at 250lbs... "The French Phenom" Rene Dupree! *Dupree enters draped in the french flag.  He has a smug looks on his face and every so often will stop and give someone a "I'm better than you" look on his way to the ring.*

The match starts off with Dupree attacking Joe before the bell and using the french flag to choke Joe.  The ref has a hard time restoring order, but manages to after about a minute of Dupree using the flag on Joe.  Rene dominated Joe for the opening minutes, at least in part due to Dupree's action before the match even had a chance to get started.  Joe managed to get in a couple punches and went for a lariat, but Dupree pulled the ref in the way.  Dupree went back on the attack.  As Joe tried to check on the ref Dupree attacked Joe's legs.  He started working over Joe's legs with stomps and holds.  Everytime Joe managed to get to his feet Dupree would take him back down.  It usually took a few kicks to the knee area to get Samoa Joe down, but Dupree just kept chopping down the tree untill it fell.  Joe was in trouble, but he just kept staying in there and trying to fight back.  Several times Dupree locked in a crab or a leglock of some kind and Joe refused to give up.  When Joe did manage to get up or even when he was crawling on the mat you could tell he was heavily favoring his left knee.  Joe could barely even get up without the help of the ropes.  Dupree was obviously confident that he was going to win, but was continueally frustrated when Joe refused to submit or would kick out of a pin attempt at the last second.  Dupree signaled the end and picked Joe up.  He went for his finisher, the French Riviera, his version of the Death Valley Driver, but Joe fought it.  Dupree tried again, but once more Joe fought it and Rene couldn't get him up.  He hit Joe with a few punches and almost knocked him back down and it looked like Joe might be out of it.  Dupree signaled for "One more" and hit Joe with a headbutt.  With that headbutt Joe's eyes got wide and he looked like he was suddenly possessed by some Samoan wrestling god or something.  Dupree didn't know what to make of it.  He hit Joe with 2 more headbutts but each time Joe only stared, completely unaffected and with a burning fire in his eyes.  Dupree went for one last headbutt, but Joe moved, grabbed Dupree's face, and planted him with a hard STK and covered Dupree for the three count.

[Great Lakes Heavyweight Title Tourney - Round 1]:
Samoa Joe pinned Rene Dupree after an STK in 0:18:10.
Rating: *** 1/4

What a performance by Samoa Joe.  We now have two of our 4 quarter-finals matches.  "The Barbaric Berserker" Jimmy Jacobs will take on Garrison Cade, who we've just learned now insists on being referred to as "The Show Stopper" and Austin Aries will have his hands full with Samoa Joe.  Please join us in two weeks time on 22nd where we'll see Side B of the Great Lakes Heavyweight title tournament wrestle to try and make it to the quarter-final round.  Thanks for joining us, so long from Kalamazoo.

Yay!

Opening match was a great way to kick things off, and great character development for both men.  Jacobs has that never-say-die attitude that helped him prevail, and Siaki is already suffering from some uncertainty in himself.  Good start.

Austin Aries over Tyson Dux.  What I would expect, good psychology with Dux working the legs.  Aries looks like he'll be tough to beat.

Good showing by Cade.  I always liked him, still do really.  Taking a bit of a page out of HBK's book is cool too, acknowledging his past training.  Not a lot of fight out of Abercrombie.

Great match for the main event.  Right man went over and Dupree didn't look bad at all.

Quarterfinals... should both be good.  Hopefully Jacobs puts up more fight than Abercrombie did, and Aries/Joe should be fantastic.

Great way to start.  Welcome to the universe. :)
