Possible format change

Snabbit888Posted on 02/19/05 at 08:20:01

I'm thinking about slightly changing the format of how I write my GCW cards.  I'm thinknig of using a more DWF style that 91 uses, and that is for my TV shows (Explosion, High Voltage, etc.) that I would no longer write out full dialogue for the interviews.  This would accomplish two things.  1) it would make it a less daunting read for my readers, as I realize that the length of my shows can be intimidating, and 2) it would allow me to put out more material faster.  I'm over 3 months behind real time, and I'm starting a new job, so it's probably going to be more behind.  I love what I have going with GCW and with slight time restraints, I don't want to lose my passion for it because I can't get material out as fast as I'd like.  I would still do full interviews for the PPVs, as they should be of more importance.

I'd like a little feedback on what you guys think.  I love writing the interviews and I think I do them well, but I think moving the timeline forward is more important to keeping the quality of GCW where it is.  "Let me know." :)
americamamushiPosted on 02/19/05 at 08:29:21

I've thought about doing this for DCW since it's the way I usually did things with the circuits I did for my own amusement.

I'd say that if you think you'll lose interest by having to do all the extra writing, then by all means shorten it.  I don't think you'd lose any readers.  Certainly not me.  ;D  You could always skip the full length interviews unless there is something that would be severely missing without the dialogue.  A Goldust/Booker T bit for instance would lose a bit without the word-for-word, however, if say Man... er... shaniqua and the Bashams were talking about how they get down all night and they're gonna bitch slap all the bitches in the house, it'd be quite easy to translate that into a summery.

And if all else fails, just pie-face someone ;)
91Posted on 02/19/05 at 13:32:08

I pretty much do that for the reason you noted - it takes forever to write interviews for an entire show, hence why I leave them to the PPVs (I could go down the route of writing really short interviews that get to the point in two sentences but then that'd suck). Mamushi makes a good point in maybe limiting full interviews to the really good or important stuff, but that's dependent on how good or important you think everything is.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 02/19/05 at 19:54:46

I don't think you should stop writing interviews. If you do it well, why stop? Yes, you're behind schedule I suppose, but that doesn't matter. You're running on TNM time anyways.

Snabbit888Posted on 02/19/05 at 22:58:08

The only reason I bring it up is because yeah, I think the interviews are good, but if they become so daunting that I'm only getting one TV week done a month, I'm going to lose my focus and drive to do this.  I'm going to be working 30-40 hours a week now, plus I'm in a play, and I don't want GCW to get completely squeezed out because I have to write long promos.  I'm still debating it thoguh.
silentobserverPosted on 02/20/05 at 05:41:10

I don't think you should stop per-say.  You know I love your interviews, I have laughed at my computer many a time because of them.  But I do agree with Chris that some of them could be shorter if not sumerized if they arn't of great importance.

But if you don't do any more Goldust/Booker T interviews, I might have to slap a bitch.

Well, all that should take priority over a TNM circuit so don't feel bad if GCW doesn't get as much attention.

I work 40 hours a week too. The only time I really get a chance to play with TNM is on the weekends.

Here's to hoping you're really Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler, or any other female wrestling personality (dare I say Traci from TNA?) I doubt it, but you never know. I never thought that someone like Randy Savage would use TNM either, but he does.

Why'd you have to burst my bubble. You should've kayfabed.

Oh, and I don't think having a female roommate is stupid. Lucky you. The Ladies Man.

*flexes*
Snabbit888Posted on 02/20/05 at 07:05:31

I have decided to recap the interviews as I do the matches.  It'll allow me to continue putting out cards at a good pace, and not be such a strain for me.  Plus, I had to put it into perspective that although I love the fact that people enjoy my work, ultimately, I do this for fun, so I need to keep it fun for myself.  And I'm still confident I can put out a quality product despite the cutback of dialogue.

*watches as all of his readers file out of the room in a line, the last slamming the door shut, leaving just he and Chris*

Hrm... what should we...

*pie-faces Chris and flees!*

Wow, I haven't gotten this much play in a while... but then, none of you know what I look like except Nubbs.  *proceeds to duck-tape his mouth shut*

(Whispers)

Psst... it's because you're in an internet forum predominantly filled with dorky young men who are almost certainly overly shy in front of women in person!  But don't tell anyone I told you that!  They might hit me with a chair!

(Clears throat)

Er...  that is to say... It's because all of us here are... um... such macho manly men that we just have to... er... show our appreciation of the ladies... or something macho and manly but not too chauvenistic like that.

Um.  Yeah!  That's the ticket!

*Goes to hit Eric with chair, but hits ropes resulting in the chair comically bouncing off the ropes and hitting Chris in the face.  But if you were smart you'd have known that anyway, seeing as how he was holding the chair so that the seat was facing toward him and not Eric*
