[GCW] High Voltage (Retribution Hype) - 9/19/04

Snabbit888Posted on 11/21/04 at 21:30:10

The Rose Garden was packed as the wait was over! September 19, 2004 could go down in history as one of the greatest nights in Global Championship Wrestling history, as it is time for Retribution! Eight big matches, which we will profile here on High Voltage! In addition, we have a big match as The Hurricane and Shark Boy team up to take on Teddy Hart and a mystery partner! There's been much speculation as to who exactly is Hart's partner, but he's been very tight-lipped about it. The fact that Teddy Hart actually has a friend is a little disturbing in itself, yet I digress. This is going to be a night of memories, so let's not waste another minute!

"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Brock Lesnar
This match is perhaps one of the most interesting on the entire card as it features the two strongest men in GCW going at it one-on-one. Brock Lesnar is on a mission and he only has one goal in sight: the World Heavyweight Title. Thus far, GCW President Ryan Niemiller hasn't addressed the situation, and as a result, Lesnar has made it his passion to destroy each and every wrestler who gets in his way. Lesnar was very upset over not being on the card last month at Summer Sizzler, so he took it into his own hands, brutally attacking Monty Brown after his match. Since then, the two have been hard to keep apart, attacking each other throughout the month. Monty Brown had the advantage last, wiping Lesnar out with the Pounce as Explosion came to an end this past Monday, but will the result be the same tonight?

Number-One Contenders Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. The Hardy Boyz
These two tag teams feature four men who have become very good friends. Although they're all friends, there's no doubting that these are two of the most competitive tag teams in the entire world. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin are former two-time World Tag Team champions; many believe that Matt and Jeff Hardy would be carrying the gold now if it weren't for Abyss' interjection at Summer Sizzler. Now these two fan favorite teams must square off to see who will get the next shot at the World Tag Team champions, whomever it may be. No matter which team wins this contest, you have to think that both the Hardyz and the WGTT are hoping that the Basham Brothers retain.

"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
For the past two months, Eddie Guerrero has been haunted by a mysterious man who dawns the mask of Eddie's former gimmick, Black Tiger. Eddie believes that his own nephew Chavo Guerrero Jr. is the man under the mask, citing jealousy as the cause. Chavo has repeatedly pleaded his innocence, even offering to tag with Eddie Guerrero against Chris Jericho and Black Tiger to prove that he's not Black Tiger. This was a week after Eddie had viciously assaulted Chavo after the first accusation. When it came time for the match, Chavo Guerrero Jr. was a no show, leaving Latino Heat on his own against Black Tiger and Chris Jericho, a match which he lost. Chavo claims that he was locked in his locker room, but Eddie isn't buying it. Eddie even went as far as to tell Chavo that he was no longer a member of his family. The next week, Chavo busted the windshield of Eddie's low rider with a chain before busting Eddie himself open, claiming he was going to have to "beat some sense" into him. This is a personal issue that runs very deep. Will Chavo be revealed as Black Tiger, or will his claims of innocence ring true?

World Tag Team Title Match
The Bashams Brothers (c) vs. Billy Kidman/Paul London
The Basham Brothers have been great tag team champions, no doubt about it, but in recent weeks they have been struggling a bit. If it wasn't for Abyss at Summer Sizzler and Shaniqua last week on High Voltage, there's a good chance that the Bashams could be without the tag titles. Billy Kidman and Cruiserweight champion Paul London have been on a huge roll as of late, winning a four team tournament by beating Low-Ki and Elix Skipper and then the Italian Stallions in the finals to earn this title shot. London has made it his mission to get his partner some championship gold. Kidman originally tried for the Television Title, but was soundly defeated by then champion Steve Bradley. Even though London and he won the tournament, Kidman's confidence has been dangerously low the past few weeks. Becoming a World Tag Team champion would certainly help boost his spirits, but with Abyss and Shaniqua looming by, the spark plug cruiserweights will have a lot to overcome.

Booker T vs. Steve "Who's Your Daddy?" Bradley
A couple of weeks ago, World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle gave his Sensationals partners an ominous message: win at Retribution, or else. This was just after Steve Bradley had lost the Television Title to Rey Mysterio Jr. Now Randy Orton and Chris Jericho already had matches for Retribution, but Bradley did not. Angle told him he better find one quickly. Later that night, Bradley viciously attacked Booker T during a match with Abyss, injuring his ribs with several shots from Mofo, Bradley's trusty black baseball bat. Booker was not at all happy and demanded a match with Bradley at Retribution, just as Bradley wanted. Now Steve Bradley has an angry Booker T to contend with. Will Bradley be able to fend off a furious Booker T, or will Booker take down the Baddest Mofo On The Show?

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
A month ago at Summer Sizzler after Shawn Michaels and Eddie Guerrero had defeated Chris Jericho and Black Tiger, the victors tried to get Black Tiger's mask. As Eddie went for the mask, HBK held Black Tiger down. Jericho, not wanting Tiger's identity to be revealed, nailed Michaels with a steel chair in the back, a part of the body that is well known to be a major problem for the Heartbreak Kid. Michaels was forced to take off a couple of weeks as a precautionary measure, but he was not at all happy with Jericho, claiming that the self-proclaimed "King of the World" tried to end his career with malicious intent. Michaels made his return two weeks later, nailing Jericho with a superkick to eliminate him from the North American Title top contenders battle royal. Since then, Jericho has been parading around in a back brace, mocking Michaels' legitimate injury. That may have backfired on him though, as Y2J was a recipient of a Pounce into the guardrail this past Monday on Explosion when he was trying to attack Michaels after his match with Brock Lesnar. Jericho appeared to have tweaked his back, but is it legit, or is it another one of his mind games? No matter; Shawn Michaels is looking to take Jericho out either way.

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton
Chris Benoit is a former World Heavyweight champion, having lost the title to Kurt Angle at Chaos Reigns in July. After failing to recapture the title in a classic submission match at Summer Sizzler, Benoit came out and said he is going to work his way back up into title contention, no matter whom he had to go through. For some reason, Randy Orton took exception to this, saying that Benoit wasn't the only man to lose a title (Orton had lost the North American Title to Lance Storm the night before). Benoit was not impressed, especially after Orton made some disparaging remarks about Benoit's wife Nancy, so he locked Orton in the Crippler Crossface before taking his leave. The following week on August 23rd, Orton jumped Benoit after the Rabid Wolverine's match, flattening him with the R.K.O. The two had a final stand-off last Monday when Orton attacked the Crippler during his match with Goldust. Orton tried for the R.K.O., but Benoit blocked it and went for the Crippler Crossface, but Orton escaped that as well. This match is all about pride, but whose pride will be bolstered and whose pride will be shot at the end of the night?

World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.
Our main event for the evening is for the biggest prize in the game, the World Heavyweight Title. This one started off innocently enough when Kurt Angle, feeling very good about defending his title at Summer Sizzler, bumped into Mysterio the next night and began dishing insults at him. Mysterio challenged Angle to a match, and Angle accepted, but as long as it was a non-title match, since he feels that Mysterio's size makes him ineligible to wrestle for the World Heavyweight Title. That night, Mysterio shocked Angle, scoring an upset win and gaining the ire of Kurt Angle. Angle's case wasn't helped anymore when the next week, Mysterio pinned Angle once again, this time in a tag team match! Mysterio had pinned Angle two weeks in a row, and his luck was about to get better as the following week, Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Angle's mercenary Steve Bradley to win the Television Title. Angle jumped Mysterio after the match, wiping him out with a huge Angle Slam from the top turnbuckle. On September 6th, Angle would finally gain an inch of momentum, making Mysterio submit to the Ankle Lock in a six-man tag team match. However, Mysterio was on his way to beating Angle yet again, but Bradley interfered, nailing Mysterio in the legs with a steel chair as the cruiserweight went for the 6-1-9 on Angle. Angle had to resort to those tactics to beat Mysterio, which showed that his confidence is shaken. Angle continued his attempts to take Mysterio down a notch before tonight just this past Monday as he cost Mysterio the Television Title to Christopher Daniels. Kurt Angle has done everything he can to take Rey Mysterio Jr. out, but he hasn't been able to get it done, and reports tell me that Mysterio is extremely confident about his chances tonight. Will Mysterio be able to pull off the unthinkable and become the smallest World Heavyweight champion in wrestling history?

[The Hurricane and Shark Boy are already in the ring as The Hurricane's music is dying down. Next that plays is "Chasing The Dragon" by Ill Bill which brings out Teddy Hart, who is greeted with many boos. Hart gets in the ring and forcefully takes the mic from William Buck as the music stops.]

TH: [At William Buck] Get the hell out of the ring, tubby! [Buck leaves, a bit hurt.] Hurricane, Shark Boy, you made a huge mistake by even showing up here tonight! I said that I got a partner, and boy did I! You two freaks are going to be sorry you ever messed with Teddy Hart! I introduce to you, and all of these morons here in Portland, my partner... the man with the most devastating finishing move in wrestling today... and a fellow Canadian like me... PETEY WILLIAMS!

[Petey Williams comes down to the ring sporting a jacket that has "Team Canada" on the back of it. Williams doesn't get a whole lot of fanfare as truth be told, but a whole lot of people aren't sure who he is. No matter, Williams gets in the ring and removes his jacket. Referee Petey Pluck jumps in the ring and rings the bell to start the match.]

Match #1
HIGH VOLTAGE MAIN EVENT
The Hurricane/Shark Boy vs. Teddy Hart/Petey Williams
The Hurricane and Shark Boy were at a distinct disadvantage in this match as they had no idea who to prepare for, and you could tell throughout this match that they really didn't know how to go about handling Petey Williams. Williams looked very impressive in his debut, as he is a fantastic young cruiserweight from Canada who has a lot of things going for him. The Hurricane and Shark Boy wrestled a good match, working very well as a team despite never officially teaming up before, but their unfamiliarity with Williams ultimately led to their downfall. The finish of this match came when Petey Williams put Shark Boy in a standing headscissors and hit one of the most jaw-dropping moves I have ever seen in my life, a flip piledriver. Needless to say, Shark Boy wasn't getting up from a move that Williams calls the Canadian Destroyer, and the Canadian duo had won.

Teddy Hart and Petey Williams defeated Shark Boy and The Hurricane when P. Williams pinned Shark Boy with the Canadian Destroyer in 0:08:43.
Rating: **** 1/4

A wonderful debut from Petey Williams as he and Teddy Hart pick up the victory tonight. Now maybe Hart will be vindicated enough to not be obsessed with beating Shark Boy and The Hurricane so he can move on.

The countdown is over; it's time for Retribution!

Black Tiger isn't Chavo.  Why?  I dunno, just a feeling.

Black Tiger is Gillberg.. or "Evil Eddie Guerrero" a clone from the future sent back in time to stop the destruction of Taco Bell as we know... but prolly Gillberg. ;)

Arbitrary Predictions:  Monty over Lesner, WGTT over the Hardy Boyz, Eddie over Chavo and a post-match jumping by Black Tiger w/possible reveiling, Bashams over Kidman & London, Booker T over Bradley, Y2J over HBK (because his acronym as a number), Benoit over Orton, and... just for the hell of it... Mysterio over Angle.

I've got some predictions of my own..

Mysterio over Angle, Kidman/London over Bashems, Benoit over Orton, HBK over Y2J, Hardy Boys over WGTT, Brown over Lesner, Bradley over Booker, and Eddie over Chavo...

Allthough as I always say, my predictions suck. :)
