LIW Running Wild - 9/30/06

Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/19/05 at 17:55:49

I do believe that this is the first time in LIW when nearly every match passed the *** mark, and really I'm pretty proud of that.  Considering that Brooklyn is LIW's new big market, a show this consistently awesome would do wonders to spread the word if this was a real promotion.  Obviously, I'm pleased with how this turned out.  I was also impressed by how the mystery wrestlers performed... but you can see that for yourselves in just a moment.

[Lamont interfered against Paul London.]

This was quite a battle.  London controlled this match, much as expected, but between his martial arts, his dirty tricks and Lamont on the outside, Miller managed to hold his own, even kicking out of one of London's Cosmic Cyclones.  London kept the pressure on, however, and after a hard kick he delivered a second, only to see Lamont put Miller's foot on the ropes.  London kept his cool, however, and scooped a visibly stunned Miller up and calmly tossed him over the top rope.  The Cat collided with Lamont, and both lay on the ground in a heap as the referee counted them out, giving the victory to Paul London, who is now only one victory away from sweeping Bracket A.

Rating: *** 1/2

The crowd was really on their feet for this match, and with good reason!  Mark Jindrak delivered another of the Ironman performances that he is known for, surviving three of the top wrestlers here in Long Island Wrestling.  This is all the more remarkable when you realize that Jindrak was the target of all three of them in the opening minutes of the match.  About 20 minutes in, the first elimination came.  Reeling from a series of forearms by Cactus Jack, Anderson accidentally took the referee down with a stiff lariat.  Cactus Jack quickly moved to take advantage of Anderson's concern, tossing him to the outside and putting him through a table with the Double Arm DDT.  Cactus tossed Anderson back in, and just as he hit the Double Arm DDT a second time and went for the pin, the referee recovered and disqualified Anderson.  Would Anderson have been able to kick out?  We may never know.

What we do know is that left Cactus Jack, Masato Tanaka, and Mark Jindrak.  After a ten minute exchange, Jindrak managed to score with his brutal Mark of Excellence to eliminate Tanaka.  This left only the Ironman against the cagey and dangerous veteran Cactus Jack.  And Jack did exactly what he is known for: absorbed all the punishment that Jindrak could dish out.  He even kicked out of the Mark of Excellence TWICE, something that has not been done before to our knowledge.  Moments after the second Mark, however, Jindrak slapped on a sleeper hold and cinched it on tight.  Cactus struggled to escape, but it was hopeless, and thus he had no recourse but to tap out.

(We go backstage now, where Masato Tanaka is recovering from his match.  As the
camera turns on, he grimaces and rubs his neck.)

Masato Tanaka: First of all, I must congratulate my honorable opponent, the
victor of the match.  Jindrak-san, you have bested me fairly, and you have my
respect for your great skill and strength.  And, while it would be my honor to
fight you again, my heart lies in the Tag Team Division.  It is disgraceful
that the belts that Sakata-san and I brought prestige to are now in the hands
of honorless thugs, and that those contending for them are no better.  So I say
to all of you now.  Both the Syndicate and The Usurpers.  When Sakata-san is
well, we shall take back what is ours!  Consider yourselves on notice!

Rating: *** 1/2
(The Usurpers won the New York State Tag Team Titles.)
[Lady Victoria interfered against Ricky Reyes.]

This was a mismatch from the beginning, and faced with two of the most dangerous wrestlers in LIW, Credible and Reyes did all they could.  In the end, however, it was not enough.  Credible ate a Ground Zero Splash, and the match only continued because Reyes was able to break up the pinfall.  Several minutes later, Chastain used a simple senton on Reyes, squashing him flat as a pancake.  Credible hadn't yet regained enough shape to make the save, so Reyes was pinned, giving the New York State Tag Team Titles back to The Usurpers!  Immediately Shane Douglas and Too Cold Scorpio of the Syndicate dash out from the back and lay a beating on the tired Chastain and Sabin, but moments later they are followed by Frank Shamrock!  We've got a pier-six brawl on our hands here as the International Thug Syndicate and The Usurpers are battling away!  It takes several minutes and every single official in the back to break up the battle so the show can continue.

(Once the ring FINALLY clears, two well-known wrestlers from TNA make their way
to the ring.  It's Sonny Siaki... and AJ Styles!  The crowd is going nuts as
Styles grabs a microphone.)

AJ Styles: Yeah, that's right!  Ah'm here, and ah brought a partner with me.
Me and Siaki here heard that y'all are havin' a "Running Wild" match here, so
we decided that we'd drop by an' show your boys how it's done.  Ain't that
right, Sonny?

Sonny Siaki: That's right.  The Phenomenal One and the Ace in the Hole are here
for one thing only.  We are here to win.

AJ Styles: Damn right.  Now there's a lot of talk about how the booking
committee will be watching this match to see whether we're right for LIW...
but ah think that's pretty obvious.  Am ah right?

(The crowd pops huge for Styles)

Sonny Siaki: So let's get this cage put together and get ready to kick some
ass!  I am the Ace in the Hole, and me an' AJ can't be stopped!

(AJ and Sonny depart as the ring crew constructs the cage as we go to
intermission)

Rating: *** 1/4

This was pure, utter chaos.  But entertaining chaos.  For over 15 minutes these eight men brawled inside the cage, doing everything in their power to pin anyone they could.  Partner even accidentally tried to pin partner once or twice, so crazy was this match.  AJ Styles and Sonny Siaki proved to be quite effective in this match, especially Styles, who really dished out a major beating to both members of The Future.  Eventually, the end came when Kid Kash climbed to the top of the cage, then soared off, landing on Shane Douglas and immediately scoring with a Frankensteiner.  As "HOLY SHIT!" chants broke out, Kash got three on Douglas, picking up the victory for Lance Storm and Kid Kash.

Batista pinned Jonny Storm after a spinebuster slam in 0:07:28.
Rating: * 3/4

Jonny Storm was still in pretty bad shape after the beatdown he took last week at Batista's hands, and coming into the match it really showed.  His offense was a step slower than his usual blazing speed, and not once did he climb to the top rope to try for a high-risk move.  Unfortunately, without those devestating moves, he lacked anything capable of putting Batista away, and The Animal quickly scored with his version of the Spinebuster for the pinfall.  As he stands over Jonny Storm's crumpled body, Batista simply shakes his head as if to say "that was IT?"

(We go backstage once more, where Edge and Vampiro are preparing for their
match against Erik Watts and Perry Saturn.  Speak of the devil, Watts and
Saturn just happen to walk into the room along with The Manager of Champions,

dropped by to let you know something.  It doesn't matter who you are, it
doesn't matter if you're a flamer in a vampire costume or an ex- vampire surfer
wannabe, because we are going to embarass you here tonight.  AGAIN.

Vampiro: Damn you and your persecution, woman!  Can you not see that the pain
inside my dark and tragic dark soul is deep enough?  The cobwebs in my heart
blow in the breeze of every shadowy breath I take, yet still I live!  Your
slings and arrows cannot pierce my flesh, for my blood already flows in an
unholy stigmata of damnation!

(Everyone stares at Vampiro for a moment, then Edge speaks.)

Edge: What my buddy here is trying to say is that you're not intimidating us.
Between the bug-eyed reekazoid Saturn and that never-was Watts, I think we've
got this match pretty well in hand.  But thanks for your inspiring words.

Saturn by disqualification in 0:13:03.
Rating: * 3/4

Perry Saturn and Erik Watts worked fairly well together considering it was their first time teaming.  Vampiro and Edge, however, have much more experience together, and despite their very different personalities they are able to work together quite well.  Taking advantage of quick tags and double-team moves, Edge and Vampiro quickly gained the upper hand in this match.  This proved frustrating to Perry Saturn, who just came out of an unsuccessful run in a tag team.  Saturn snapped, knocking the referee on his ass and scoring a HUGE Death Valley Driver on Vampiro.  Unfortunately the referee was out, and by the time a replacement was available to make the count, Vampiro had mustered up enough strength to kick out with authority.  Moments later, the stunned referee regained consciousness and immediately DQed Saturn.

Rating: ***

In this match, "Heavy D" Don Harris took on El Mephisto.  Mephisto has gone a long way since the collapse of New Europe, rising from a lackey of sorts to a very successful tag team wrestler alongside Sean Waltman.  One thing he has still had limited success in is singles action, however.  It looked for a time that Mephisto might be turning that around here tonight with a series of brutal submission holds, but about 4 and a half minutes into the match, he walked into a power bomb by Harris and was pinned moments later.

[Lady Victoria interfered against Ron Harris.]

Excellent match!  Once again Ron Harris delivers in a major match environment, this time against Submission expert and Usurper leader Frank Shamrock.  Shamrock was absolutely brutal in this match, taking Harris down time after time and hooking in at least a dozen different submission holds, each mainly targeting the leg.  Harris, not an especially fast wrestler to begin with, was definately slowed down by this tactic, but due to his extrordinary strength he was able to hit an occasional big move (including his Cobra Clutch Slam no less than twice) to turn the tide long enough to get in some offense of his own.  Seeing her client reeling, Lady Victoria began to do everything she could to support Shamrock, even cracking Ron's skull with her chair.  Ron shrugged off the pain, however, and as Shamrock closed in to finish the job with his Ankle Lock Submission, Harris somehow hoisted him up and drove him down hard onto the mat with a power bomb.  This, finally, was enough to leave Shamrock down for the count, and to give Ron Harris Top Contender Status.

Aw man, London almost had a clean win over Miller.  Silly Lamont.

Wow, Arn Anderson was the first to go?  It was a DQ, but still.  Good showing by Jindrak.  That's a big match for him to win.  I'm hoping this is the begining of a rise to the top for him.  The one that he should have gotten before had his neck not been broken.

Hurrah for the eventual reuniting of Sakata & Tanaka! *marks the fudge out*

Looks like the crowd was itching for another Credibe/Storm meeting with their impact players chant.  Still all riled up from the last card.  And hey!  Chastain didn't get DQed!  ::)  Reyes might be dead though.  A senton from Chastain is like having a beluga whale sit on your grandma.

Nice ending to the running wild match.

It was only a 7 and a half minute match by Batista did more beating than Gene Snitsky at a baby convention.  ba-zing.

sarcastic whip crack sound=comedy :)

Hurrah!  Ron Harris is the #1 contender.  After beating Anderson I'm glad Harris got the big W tonight.  This should make for a somewhat surprisingly interesting match.  I wonder how Don will take his brother's success, especially if he managed to bear ol' Double A for the title.
Snabbit888Posted on 08/02/05 at 06:18:36

Paul London thankfully defeats Ernest Miller.  London rules far too hard to be losing to the Cat.

Wow... did not see Anderson being the first man out in the elimination match.  And the "would he have kicked out?" DQ elimination sets up some future storylines that should keep the Heavyweight Title situation interesting.  And Jindrak continues his LIW dominance.  He's really emerged as a huge star for you.

Your tag situation is really weird.  I guess it's part of the random nature of unbooked, but you get some interesting combinations.  Sabin and freakin' Chastain as tag champs?  Yikes.  All this does is make Frank Shamrock's group stronger. *pouts*

Lance Storm and Kid Kash, however, are a great team, and I was excited to see them get the Running Wild win tonight.

Batista destroys Jonny Storm like he should have.  Storm just never caught on with me in LIW.

Vampiro is weird, but he and Edge make a good team.

Don Harris wins as he should have.  TNM did a good job of having the right people win tonight.

In closing...

THANK GOD FRANK SHAMROCK IS NOT THE TOP CONTENDER!

*dances the Charleston*

Hi! I've been gone for a few months... don't know if anyone remembers Cincinnati Pro? Had a few things to take care of, but CP will be back to being their second year.

Anyways, it's good to see LIW still going strong. This was easily my favorite promotion when I frequented. A lot of new faces on the show now but a lot of old favorites still there.

It's awesome to see Jindrak back. He was injured by Orton and on the shelf for quite sometime from what I last remember, but I marked for his "Ironman" gimmick. He shows it off again tonight! I hope for big things for him!

Batista in LIW!? Wow! I have to go back and do my homework to catch up on the all the storylines and such going on.

LIW Newsline - 10/4/06

We are just two weeks away from our first ever doubleshot!  For the first time ever, Long Island Wrestling will present its loyal fans with an entire weekend's worth of excellent wrestling action.  The gloves will be coming off, and blood will spill at these two shows as two of the most heated feuds in LIW today are ended once and for all!  The weekend will start on Friday, October 20th in New Haven, CT with an event that will be known as Rage in a Cage.  Then, on Saturday night, we will be in Buffalo, NY with an event called Born to be Wired!  The stipulations which will appear on each night should be pretty clear from this, but we'll get into a bit more detail shortly.

Before we begin announcing matches, however, it is our misfortune to be the bearers of bad news.  Johnny B. Badd, one half of the reviled Grandmasters of Funk, has announced to us today that he plans to leave the wrestling business.  As hated as he is, Badd has put on a number of top quality matches here in Long Island Wrestling, and he will be missed greatly.  In a brief telephone interview, Badd told us that he wishes his former partner Ernest "The Cat" Miller and his former manager Lamont the best, but he feels that it is the time in his career to focus on... less dangerous pursuits before years of accumulated injuries leave him crippled in his old age.  Thus, we wish Johnny B. Badd all the best in his future endeavors.

Ernest Miller is understandably upset that his partner and close friend leaving the business, and has told us that he now plans to fight his way to the top of the business "for Johnny."  Thus, he has issued a challenge to none other than the Top Contender, "Violent R" Ron Harris!  Miller claims that he's at the top of his game, and that he will prove himself to be a star on the rise by defeating our newly crowned Top Contender.  Although Ron Harris has other plans set for this upcoming weekend, he has announced that he does indeed have time for a match against Miller at Rage in a Cage.  Thus, on Friday's show we will see Ernest "The Cat" Miller vs. "Violent R" Ron Harris!

This of course leaves the matter of our two marquee matchups.  Rage in a Cage will feature the conclusion of the epic feud between "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton and "The Ironman" Mark Jindrak.  At the beginning of the year, Orton debuted to a great deal of hype, announcing that he had heard that the newest legend on the rise was right here in Long Island Wrestling!  This led to an impromptu match which ended abruptly as Orton seriously injured the neck of Jindrak!  Orton spent the next few months bragging about how he had killed Jindrak's legend before it had even begun, which seemed to anger one Cactus Jack.  Cactus Jack and Orton continued their excellent feud from several years before until WWE announced that they feared their man would be injured.  This corresponded with the return of Jindrak, however, and Jindrak went after the man who had injured him.  Orton took advantage of Jindrak's newly healed neck to defeat him in his return match, then spent the next several months ducking Jindrak's challenged.  That will end in New Haven!  WWE has officially sanctioned a match between Randy Orton and Mark Jindrak, a match that Orton contractually CANNOT refuse to fight in!  For months, Jindrak has stewed, thinking of what he would do to Orton when he got a chance.  Now, fully healed and back up to his extremely dangerous best, Jindrak will get his chance within a 15 foot high steel cage!

Born to be Wired will, of course, feature a Barbed Wire match.  This brutal match will once and for all determine who is the better man between "The Animal" Batista and "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm!  Ever since LIW's beginnings, Jonny Storm has been a force to be reckoned with, bringing blazing speed and dazzling high-flying moves to the table in such a way as to pick up numerous wins over wrestlers as dangerous as Cactus Jack!  Storm's accomplishments even include winning both A Challenge Accepted events, and the founding and leadership of New Europe, once the most powerful faction in Long Island Wrestling.  His dreams of glory came crashing down around him, however, when "The Deutschland Destroyer" Alex Wright was forced to leave LIW after dropping the title to Erik Watts.  Jonny Storm tried to continue his work, but the weakened New Europe quickly fell at the hands of Frank Shamrock's Usurpers.  Storm spent the next few months trying to redeem his lost dream of a restored European Professional Wrestling scene, but that came crashing to a halt when he encountered Batista!

Batista dispatched Storm with an ease seldom seen here in LIW.  Upset, Storm attacked Batista with a steel chair during the next show, ending Batista's hopes of winning the Best of the Best series.  This angered Batista, and each time they met after that, Batista defeated Storm with apparent ease.  Obviously mentally unstable, Jonny Storm has demanded a Barbed Wire Match against Batista, claiming that he will show him once and for all that nothing can stand in his way.  A bemused Batista quickly accepted the challenge, claiming that he was sick and tired of Jonny Storm ranting and raving at him like some kind of lunatic.  Thus, on Saturday October 21, we will see "The Animal" Batista vs. "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm in a brutal Barbed Wire Match!

LIW Top Five
Champion: "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson

1) "Violent R" Ron Harris - Ron Harris has been on a roll as of late, first defeating New York State Heavyweight Champion Arn Anderson in a non-title match, then crushing Usurper leader Frank Shamrock with a huge Power Bomb in a match for the top contendership!  Harris has proven that he has what it takes to beat Arn Anderson!  Can he do it again with the title on the line?

2) "The Animal" Batista - Batista is a monster!  Time after time, Batista has manhandled Jonny Storm in a way that few others have ever managed.  With incredible strength and great conditioning, Batista has earned enough respect from the booking committee to be voted #2 in LIW today!

3) "The Ironman" Mark Jindrak - LIW's biggest breakthrough star drops to number three due to the sudden emergence of Batista as a true force to be reckoned with.  After winning a huge Four Man Elimination Match and with a final showdown with Randy Orton on the horizon, Jindrak remains poised to shoot to the top of the promotion at a moment's notice!

4) Erik Watts - Erik Watts is only one match away from sweeping his bracket in the Best of the Best series.  With the managerial talents of MsChif, he looks like a very good candidate to sweep the entire contest!  With that and a brief run with the New York State Heavyweight Title under his belt, he might just be what MsChif claims he is despite our wishes to the contrary.

5) "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm - Jonny Storm suffers another defeat at the hands of Batista, but continues to garner just enough votes to remain in the Top Five.  Storm will be facing Batista in a huge Barbed Wire Match at Born to be Wired that many seem to believe may be Storm's last shot at the top!

LIW Newsline - 10/5/06

The LIW Newsline is back with the latest on the huge upcoming Doubleshot on the weekend of the 20th!  As we promised in yesterday's update, two of the biggest feuds in LIW today will END on that weekend, one in Steel Cage match, and the other in a ring surrounded by barbed wire!  Brutality and athleticism will collide at Rage in a Cage and Born to be Wired!  If you're in the area, you owe it to yourself not to miss these two unforgettable shows!

We have several more matches to announce tonight, but before we get into that we have received the latest injury update from our doctors.  As you know, Scott Hall is presently out with an injured neck, while former tag team champion Wataru Sakata has a badly injured arm.  The latest news on their recovery is that both are on target for a return in late November.  Hall has stated that he has cleaned himself up as a result of his latest injury, and that he is looking forward to teaming with Frankie Kazarian again into 2007 - he hopes that this run lasts a little longer than their aborted run that ended abruptly with Hall's injury.  Sakata-san tells us that while his arm may be hurting, he has not stopped his training.  With his arm in a sling, Sakata has been practicing his kicks, plus a variety of leglocks utilizing his own legs.  When asked if he would be varying his style significantly when he returned, Sakata denied it, but stated that if his opponents tried to take advantage of his newly healed arm, he had more options now.

We are pleased to announce that the final matches in both Best of the Best brackets will occur during the doubleshot weekend.  The first of these matches, which will pit the dazzling young up-and-comer Paul London against "The Monster" Edward Chastain, will occur at Rage in a Cage.  Paul London has won both of his matches so far in the Best of the Best Series, while Chastain is 1 and 1.  Thus, if Paul London wins here, he will sweep his bracket!  If Edward Chastain takes the victory, however, he will be the overall winner in his bracket because he tied for first and defeated London, who will be tied with him in points.  In case of a draw, London will advance into the final match in November.

Two title matches have been signed for Born to be Wired!  The first of these title matches will pit The Future of Xavier & Chance Beckett against the New York State Tag Team Champions Chris Sabin & Edward Chastain.  While The Future has yet to win a match here in LIW, they have consistently looked very strong.  Based on the strength of their run in New Deal Wrestling, they have been granted this shot at the gold.  Please note, however, that the booking committee is discussing the possibility of a tag team title match at Rage in a Cage!  If such a match is signed, and if The Usurpers lose their titles, this match will still occur!  It will obviously be a non-title match, however.

Finally, we have just received word that the title match that we have all been waiting for will occur on October 21 at Born to be Wired!  Top Contender "Violent R" Ron Harris will face off agianst New York State Heavyweight Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson with the title on the line!  Harris has been on a major roll, scoring the victory in what many are calling the Match of the Year thus far against Arn Anderson in a non-title match, and power bombing the hell out of Usurper leader Frank Shamrock to earn the Top Contendership!  Anderson has been looking increasingly battered and bruised as the fact that he has been a fighting champion slowly wears him down.  In the last month, he has not only been pinned by Ron Harris, he was eliminated first in the Elimination Match at Running Wild!  How much gas does Anderson have left in his tank?  Will he be able to make it to 2007 with his title?  Or will Harris defeat him and carry the belt into the new year?  Find out at Born to be Wired!

Stay tuned to the LIW Newsline for more match announcements in the coming days!  We're still two weeks away, and things are just starting to heat up!

LIW Newsline - 10/7/06

Welcome back to the LIW Newsline.  We are now less than two weeks away from our first ever doubleshot, and the hype and anticipation are quickly building!  Tickets are selling fast, but second and third row ringside seating is still available for both shows!  Order your tickets today, because it looks like only General Admission tickets will be available come the end of the week!  We have a hell of a Newsline for you today, with three new match announcements plus a detailed look at the upcoming Ron Harris vs. Arn Anderson New York State Heavyweight Title match!

The booking committee has been thinking long and hard about how to open both shows.  After some consideration, it has been decided to start things off with a bang as the highly ranked team of Vampiro & Edge take on Too Cold Scorpio & Shane Douglas of the International Thug Syndicate.  Vampiro & Edge have come very close to winning the New York State Tag Team Titles in the past, while Too Cold Scorpio has been able to bring the Syndicate to a level of power not seen since the days of Booker T's leadership with the help of Douglas.  Either pairing in this match would make very credible challengers for the New York State Tag Team Titles, so you have to believe that the outcome of this match could help to position the winners for a future shot.

MsChif has been badgering the booking committee for a match between her new client Perry Saturn and his former tag team partner Paul London, but the booking committee refuses to budge.  Plans have apparently already been made for who London will face at the upcoming doubleshot.  However, the committee has reassured MsChif that her client WILL be in action at both of the upcoming shows, and has even told her that his match at Rage in a Cage will be none other than Aviv Maayan!  While Maayan is clearly not in the same league as Paul London, he DOES wrestle a fairly similar style - something which could give Saturn an edge when he and London finally have a chance to face off!

Finally, we already announced that a new tag team would be debuting at Born to be Wired.  We can now tell you that they will truly be facing a trial by fire, as their opponents will be none other than Shane Douglas and Too Cold Scorpio of the International Thug Syndicate!  Douglas and Scorpio are two skilled veterans in their respective styles, but their opponents now know who they will be facing and will be able to prepare.  Who will they face?  And will the newly debuting team gain a huge early victory to propel them up the card?  We honestly have no idea, but this could be a truly exciting match!

As promised, here is a detailed look at the Ron Harris vs. Arn Anderson New York State Heavyweight Title match!

The Challenger:
"Violent R" Ron Harris

Few wrestlers in LIW today have the sheer power of Ron Harris.  In the last year, Violent R has lost a bit of the bulk that slowed him down, gotten into much better shape, and really broadened his arsenal of moves.  A year ago, he was a very basic brawler.  Today he utilizes a much wider variety of power moves and slams than ever before!  It is this improvement which has allowed Ron Harris to shoot up the card, gaining huge victories over top-level wrestlers like Frank Shamrock, and even a non-title victory over the Champion himself.  Harris will have to take advantage of his newfound skill to inflict some serious punishment quickly, however.  Unlike in their last match, Anderson has had a bit of time to heal upcoming into this match, so a long fight will almost certainly go in Anderson's favor.  Thus, Harris needs to strike hard and fast.  The longer the fight goes, the worse his chances will become.

The Champion:
"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson
5'11"  243 lbs
Signiture Moves: Spinebuster, DDT

Anderson has held the New York State Heavyweight Title since March and defended it quite frequently against all comers.  He's defeated wrestlers as well known as Scott Steiner and Chris Benoit to hold onto his belt for all these months, but each and every defense and big match has taken its toll.  Anderson is slowly being worn down by his rigorous schedule and his refusal to limit himself to easy opponents on the time off that the booking committee has given him.  The Enforcer insists that doing this is a matter of honor, and takes great pride in being a fighting champion.  Even with some time to rest up, however, Ron Harris will provide a huge challenge to the battered champion!  While Anderson outclasses Harris on the mat, one thing he cannot do is compete with Harris's pure power.  Thus, he will have to wrestle a very careful match and try to frustrate the big man until he wears himself down.  If this is done, Anderson's excellent matwork and strong brawling skills should allow him to go toe-to-toe with Harris, but if the champ miscalculates he will be mauled badly by his opponent's incredible strength.

LIW Newsline - 10/8/06

We are here today with the final update before our huge doubleshot in New Haven and Buffalo!  Even though it's only been a day since our last update, tickets continue to go fast, and ringside seats have now sold out for the Buffalo show!  General admission is still available there, and third row seating is still available in New Haven, so if you hurry you can still get in before seating sells out!  Additionally, we have decided to accept pre-orders for both shows on either VHS or DVD.  If you order now, you can guarantee that you will receive your copies of these shows within one week of their release or we'll refund your shipping costs.

We have four more matches to announce tonight, two from each show.  First of all, we have official confirmation that competition in both Best of the Best brackets will end at Rage in a Cage on Friday October 20th.  The final match in Bracket B will pit Lance Storm against Erik Watts!  If Watts is victorious in his match, he will sweep Bracket B and go on to face either Paul London or Edward Chastain in November to determine the overall winner.  If Lance Storm wins, however, there will be a 3-way tie for first place.  The booking committee has ruled that if this happens, Lance Storm will be considered the overall winner for his bracket because he defeated Erik Watts, who defeated Vampiro.

A huge matchup has also been announced for Rage in a Cage!  In a recent Newsline, we mentioned rumors that the New York State Tag Team Titles would be defended on both nights.  We now have confirmation that this is absolutely 100% true.  Not only that, but just 24 hours before they meet to compete for the Heavyweight Title, Arn Anderson and Ron Harris will be teaming up to face The Usurpers of Chris Sabin and Edward Chastain for the Tag Team Titles!  With all that's on the line, will Anderson and Harris be able to coexist?  Or will The Usurpers continue their dominant streak by rolling over two of the top wrestlers in LIW today?  Either way, this should be a hell of a matchup!

Born to be Wired is looking like a very strong card, but a strong card is nothing without a strong opener.  To this end, a tag team match has been signed to open the show.  Former New York State Tag Team Champions Justin Credible & Ricky Reyes of The Usurpers will face off against Vampiro & Edge in another match that should help to determine the shape of the tag team title scene in the weeks and months to come.  All four of these men are extremely skilled athletes, and all four are capable of putting on absolutely fantastic matches.  With that in mind, will the martial arts and speed of Vampiro & Edge bring them a victory, or will the hard-hitting brutality of the International Thug Syndicate give them the win?

The final match that we have to announce should be huge as well.  In this match at Born to be Wired, the four finalists from the 2 Best of the Best Brackets will face off against each other and the winner of the main event of Rage in a Cage in a 5-Man Battle Royal!  London, Chastain, Watts, Storm and either Orton or Jindrak will all be in action against each other, and considering how well everyone in this match has been doing in LIW over the past few months, it's entirely possible that the winner of this match may turn out to be a future New York State Heavyweight Champion!  You definately won't want to miss this match!
