LIW Spring Dawning - 4/22/06

Critic of the DawnPosted on 04/14/05 at 02:11:46

I can't express how pleased I am with how this card turned out.  It wasn't perfect - I would have liked to see a ****+ main event - but the entire show was solid and the new wrestlers debuting all put on an excellent showing.  I will have to think some about how to push one new wrestler in particular, but I'm not too worried.  He'll work well at whatever level I place him.

[Masato Tanaka interfered against Simon Diamond.]
(Wataru Sakata no-showed.)

Before this match could begin, cameras went backstage, where The International Thug Syndicate was laying a beatdown on Simon Diamond's opponent for this evening, Wataru Sakata.  Simon Diamond makes his way to the ring with a confident smirk, and quickly it is announced that Wataru Sakata is not able to compete tonight.  Diamond has just started to leave the ring when "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka's music hits, and Snuka is announced as Sakata's replacement!  This proved to be an excellent match despite Snuka's advancing age, and near the end of the match Masato Tanaka made his way to ringside.  It was Tanaka's interference in revenge for Diamond's cowardly attack on his partner that allowed Snuka to escape a pin that certainly would have finished him, and roll Diamond up into a crucifix for the victory!  Simon Diamond is NOT pleased by this, and shouts something about the Syndicate making it their priority to take the New York State Tag Team Titles as officials move to keep him seperated from Tanaka.

New Europe's El Mephisto and The Usurpers' Chris Sabin had a hell of a fastpaced match that really got the crowd on their feet.  Neither of these men are anything close to fan favorites, but the exciting moves and exchanges got the fans behind both, although Sabin was quite clearly the favorite of the Long Island fans.  After things slowed down to a lengthy brawl both inside and outside of the ring, Sabin was able to return the action to the ring and hit a quick Future Shock for the victory!  With this win, The Usurpers lead New Europe 1-0 in their series this evening.

Rating: ** 1/2

Lance Storm and Kid Kash were looking for a huge high profile victory here against The Harris Twins, but instead all they got was a beating.  The Harris Twins once again seem to be almost unbeatable in tag team action, and with this victory they have almost certainly earned a tag team title shot some time in the near future if they are interested.  With the International Thug Syndicate AND The Harris Twins potentially breathing down their necks, Dangan have got to be wondering how long they can hold onto their titles in their second reign.

("Burn in my Light" hits, and Randy Orton makes his way out to the ring as the
fans try their best to boo him out of the building.)

Randy Orton: Was there really any doubt?  Was there REALLY any doubt that I
could defeat Terry Funk?  Not to take anything away from him - the Funker is
a true legend in the sport - but Terry is an old man now.  And I... am the
Legend Killer.  I nearly took poor Terry's head off with a forearm right
between the eyes!  I killed Terry Funk just like I've killed every other legend
I face!  And just like I'm going to continue killing Cactus Jack month after
month until he realizes that I'm simply better than he ever was and gives up!
Face facts, Mick...  you're a-

("Born to be Wild" hits, and Cactus Jack charges toward the ring.  Orton meets
him on the outside, and the two exchange blows.  Then KEVIN NASH steps out of
the crowd, taking Orton down with a hard lariat.)

Kevin Nash: You've pissed off one too many guys here in LIW, Randy.  Next time
Cactus and I see you... you better have a partner with you.  Because at the
next show, it's gonna be me and Cactus Jack against you... and anyone you can
find to back you up.  Good luck there, buddy.

(Nash steps away, allowing Cactus Jack to run down the ring apron and deliver
a running elbowdrop all the way to Orton on the concrete floor!  What a message
sent to Randy Orton!)

The International Thug Syndicate's new man turned out to be none other than Justin Credible.  Credible worked with LIW for several months last year, mainly teaming with Lance Storm.  Now he has apparently embraced the ITS creed, doing whatever is necessary to prove to the world that he is terribly underrated.  As a result, this was a high intensity brawl, with Credible actually holding the advantage for most of the match.  Though he beat Tanaka bloody, he just could not seem to gain a pinfall.  Even after ducking the Roaring Elbow and hitting That's Incredible several times, Tanaka refused to stay down.  Eventually he was able to end this contest with a stiff forearm shot right to Credible's face which very nearly knocked him out cold.  Even with a defeat in this match, Credible looked very good, and was definately a wise acquisition for ITS.

It's Chris Jericho!  CHRIS JERICHO has come to LIW!

Though they might not see eye to eye on much, as soon as that familiar music hit, Steiner looked at Vampiro and said to him "You may be a whiny gothic bitch, but we might need to work together on this one."  And work together they did.  Steiner and Vampiro did everything in their power to stay on top of Jericho, but Y2J proved that he was just too good for them to keep down.  Jericho even managed to get the Walls of Jericho for a few seconds before the hold was broken.  A quick Northern Lights suplex a few moments later, though, and Jericho had won his debut match!  Great things may be in store for Chris Jericho here in LIW!

From the opening moments of this match, Ricky Reyes beat the holy hell out of both Michael Shane and Frankie Kazarian.  It took nearly ten minutes for Shane and Kazarian to begin to make a comeback, but when that comeback came the fans were good and ready for it!  Using every ounce of their speed and grappling ability, Shane and Kazarian clawed their way back into this match.  It just wasn't enough, though, and in the end a HUGE 450 Splash put Kazarian away, giving the International Thug Syndicate another tag team victory and bringing them one step closer to a shot at the tag team titles.

[Stevie Knight interfered against Frank Shamrock.]

Both New Europe and The Usurpers came to ringside to watch their respective leaders battle it out.  Frank Shamrock and Jonny Storm had only begun to feel each other out when New Europe tried to steal an easy victory.  Stevie Knight hit Frank Shamrock in the back with a chair, but the ref saw it.  Though he called for the DQ, you could hardly tell, as both groups quickly jumped each other and began brawling all over the ring area.  It took several minutes for officials to seperate these two groups and restore order.  Up next: the debut of one of the most entertaining men in the history of professional wrestling!

(With the ring area finally clear, the highly anticipated debut of one of the
most entertaining men in the history of the business could finally happen.  The
crowd hushes in expectation, then a figure dressed in a sharp suit made his
way to the ring...  is that... Lamont?)

Lamont: Ladies and gentlemen, please give it up to THE Most Entertaining Man
in Sports Entertainment...  My good friend... Ernest "The Cat" Miller!

("Paid the Cost To Be the Boss" by James Brown hits, and Miller struts to the
ring with a sequined cloak over his tights.  The crowd is stunned.  Then the
boos begin.  THIS is the famous entertainer that was hyped so highly!?!)

Ernest Miller: Thank you!  Now I know most of you came here to see wrestling,
but I can do you all one better!  I have been paid the cost to be the boss, and
the boss says that the time for wrestling is over and the time for DANCING has
begun!  Somebody call my mama!  Hit that music!

(Funky music begins to play and Ernest Miller dances around the ring as the
crowd boos him, throws trash towards the ring, and just generally indicates
that they are NOT happy with what is happening.  Then... Aviv Maayan's music
cuts in, and Maayan dashes towards the ring to a pop from the crowd.)

Ernest Miller: What?  Oh no you di'nt!  I am a National KaraTE champion, boy,
and for interrupting my partay your face is gonna get a good kicking!

(The bell rings and the match begins.)

[Lamont interfered against Aviv Maayan.]

The crowd absolutely HATED Ernest Miller for his tired dancing act, and really got behind Aviv Maayan as he ran in to put a stop to it before the fans all fled.  Immediately Ernest Miller gave him exactly the face kicking he promised, but Aviv Maayan took it and came back for seconds.  We haven't seen this much fire in Maayan for quite some time, but in the end the distractions of Lamont and Miller's martial arts skills proved too much for him, and Miller was able to powerbomb the crap out of a tired Aviv Maayan during a rana attempt.  Lamont handed him his cape, and Miller limped to the back as Lamont spoke one last time tonight.  "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Cat has left the building!"

The third match in the New Europe vs. The Usurpers series ended even faster than the second, with Stevie Knight being absolutely flattened beneath the sheer mass of the monster Edward Chastain.  With three victories in three matches, The Usurpers are looking very strong indeed with this easy win, while it is even more evident that New Europe is in decline.

(Frank Shamrock's music hits, and The Usurpers hit the ring.)

Frank Shamrock: Oh Jonny...  I do believe that we've beaten the crap out of you
just like we promised.  That means it's time for New Europe to step aside.
There's a new power in Long Island Wrestling... and it is The Usurpers.  Your
time is finished, Storm.

("Ode To Joy" hits, and El Mephisto and Jonny Storm join the battered Stevie
Knight at ringside.)

Jonny Storm: Is that so, Frank?  I don't think so.  You've got a good group,
sure, but I still hold all the power here.  New Europe's name carries weight
that your doesn't because we are a group for champions.  Oh, we don't hold any
belts right NOW.  But soon we will once again!  So basically... No.  You and
your toadies can go to hell!

Frank Shamrock: In that case, you have two options.  First, Sabin, Chastain and
I can come out there and finish the job.  You've all been beaten badly enough
that I expect I can snap a few ankles with ease.  The other option is put up
or shut up.  At the next show... New Europe vs. The Usurpers.  A six man tag
team match... with the losing group disbanding.  What do you say, Storm?  A
beat down, or a chance to prove that your precious vision isn't dead?

Jonny Storm: You're on, Frank.  And I look forward to bidding the headache that
you and your cause me farewell.

(Fade out.)

(Arn Anderson retained the New York State Heavyweight Title.)

Arn Anderson and Paul London proved to be very evenly matches, with neither man able to hold the advantage for long in this match.  London tried to keep Anderson guessing with his speed, but Anderson brawled and wrestled his way back into control, only for London's superb mat skills to allow him to escape so the whole cycle could begin again.  In the end, simple fatigue proved to be the bane of Paul London.  After kicking out of several hard Spinebusters and pursuing his own tiring offense, he simply didn't have enough left to kick out after a hard kick to the head by Anderson.  Arn Anderson retains the New York State Heavyweight Champion, but offers London a handshake for an excellent match.

Nice win for Chris Sabin. Mephisto was obviously still coming off his win at Battle of Long Island, even if it WAS by DQ. =)

Good to see that The Harris Brothers are doing alot better here than Hard Knox. I can predict them working for only ONE Long Island company fairly soon.

Oooo, Cactus & Nash vs Orton and ??? Hmm, me thinks Randy brings dad in for one night.

Justin Credible is an ITS - very nice debut.

WOAH - Chris Jericho comes to Long Island. Another big debut. Good to see the Ayatollah of Rock and Rollla get the win.

I dont know about Ernest Miller being a highly anticipated debut but hey, if you can roll with it, that's cool.

Allow me to predict that next month, New Europe's run ends at the hands of The Usurpers.

Nice sportsmanship between London & Anderson.

Overall, good event. Keep 'em coming.
VertigoPosted on 04/16/05 at 03:53:10

Would have preferred to see Sakata take on Diamond, but Snuka is good too. I like some legends mixing it up with some current wrestlers. Cool to see Snuka win it and have a very good match in the process. ITS just hasn't been the same since Booker T left.

Sabin wins it for The Usurpers. I say I'm pushing for New Europe in this series because for some reason I can't really get behind The Usurpers at all.

It was no shock seeing The Harris Twins win. They're so dominate together that it's a wonder that they ever split up. Dangan is DEFINATLY in some serious trouble if the Harris Twins get that title shot.

I actually found myself rooting for Kevin Nash in the segment with Orton. I'm not much of a fan of Orton in WWE or LIW... so even Nash beating on Orton gets me pretty pumped up. Yeah, Orton's arrogance is definatly pushing everyone's buttons.

Masato Tanaka is a machine.. always has been and probably always will be. Justin Credible is tough and a good addition to ITS, but Tanaka made of steel! If he wasn't so occupied with Dangan, I'd give him a run at the Championship.

Wow! Y2J!! What a gain for LIW!! There was no doubt in my mind that Y2J would overcome the mediocre Vampiro and Scott Steiner. I can't even imagine what's to come of Y2J in LIW.

What's with Ernest Miller? These new additions keep getting wilder and wilder!

Damnit! The Usurpers swept New Europe! Well, the second match may not be a win for either team because of the DQ, but either way... damnit!! Here's to hoping New Europe disbands The Usurpers at the next show.

I was surprised to see Solo Snuka beat Badd. Badd seemed to be on some sort of role in LIW... I honestly think he might be overlooked a bit... but hey, a win for Solo Snuka is a win for everyone!

Yeah! Double A retains! While London definatly makes a great challenger and would probably be a hell of a champion, I just love the fact that Double A is the main man in LIW. He's awesome.

LIW Newsline - 4/29/06

Spring Dawning proved to be a huge night for LIW, with four new stars making their debuts.  Justin Credible returned after a long absence to join the International Thug Syndicate.  Chris Jericho made a huge impact by defeating both Vampiro and Scott Steiner in a very solid match that had the fans on their feet in support of the Highlight of the Night.  Ernest "The Cat" Miller made his debut to much less fanfare after much more hype, much to the disgust of the fans - and things only got worse when he defeated the man who confronted him to try to stop his tired dancing routine!  Finally, Solo Snuka joined his father here in LIW with a solid victory over Johnny B. Badd!  After holding three of our last four shows in Long Island, LIW is heading back upstate to Buffalo to put on our next show.  May 6 is promising to be a hell of a night's worth of wrestling.  With two huge challenges already on the table pending booking committee approval, plus the matches still to be announced, this should be a very entertaining event!

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka has told LIWrestling.com how proud he is of his son for his debut victory here in Long Island, as well as his intention to team up with his boy at the May 6 show.  Solo Snuka claims that he is doing his best to follow in his father's footsteps, and that he feels like he can learn so much by teaming with him that he'd be a fool to do otherwise.  Jimmy and Solo will be teaming up against Lance Storm and Kid Kash in the opening match of the show.  Three generations of talent will be in the ring in this match, and everyone involved has demonstrated the ability to have a solid match.  As a consequence, this should be a very interesting way to start off the show!

Chris Jericho will be in action on May 6, and will be taking on a wrestler appearing for one night only in an exhibition match.  Jericho is enormously talented and is one of the most charismatic men in the industry, so don't miss this rare opportunity to see him live!  When asked who Jericho would be facing, the booking committee simply responded with a "wait and see."  Chris Jericho himself debuted as a result of such a claim, but then again so did several of the less famous wrestlers on the roster.  Whoever Jericho's opponent is, a surprise along with a chance to see Jericho wrestle live and up close should be more than enough reason to watch.

Finally, with Paul London's defeat at the hands of New York State Heavyweight Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, LIW has been left without a top contender.  This will be remedied on May 6, when "Master of the Eight Angles" Octagon takes on Too Cold Scorpio of the International Thug Syndicate in a match to determine the new Top Contender for Arn Anderson's title.  You can be sure that Anderson will be watching this match closely from the back, as he will be facing the winner for the New York State Heavyweight Title in June.  You have to bet that after losing twice to Octagon in the past couple shows, ITS leader Simon Diamond will have something up his sleeve.  Octagon may just be good enough to pick up the victory anyway.

LIW Top Five:
Champion: "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson

1) Vacant - The new top contender will be determined on May 6 when Octagon faces Too Cold Scorpio.

2) Frank Shamrock - With The Usurpers seemingly poised to sweep New Europe out of Long Island Wrestling, and with a DQ victory over Jonny Storm to his credit at Spring Dawning, Frank Shamrock is on one hell of a roll.  When offered a spot in the top contendership match by the booking committee, Shamrock stated that his first priority was establishing the Usurpers once and for all as the most dominant force in LIW, and that only once that was done would he resume his hunt for the title.

3) "The Monster" Edward Chastain - Chastain scores an easy victory over Stevie Knight, and once again proves himself to be the biggest asset - literally - of The Usurpers.  Nobody in New Europe can stand up to this 500 pound behemoth of a man, and it seems likely that there aren't many in the rest of the promotion who can either.

4) "Master of the Eight Angles" Octagon - Octagon rises a spot after Jonny Storm suffers a DQ loss to Frank Shamrock.  Holding several major victories over key LIW players and consistently putting on strong matches since the founding of LIW over a year ago, Octagon has proved to be one of the workhorses of the promotion.  In recognition of that, and of his recent success against Simon Diamond, Octagon has been granted a chance to become the new Top Contender.

5) "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm - Storm suffers an embarassing DQ loss to his rival Frank Shamrock, who at this point seems to be outmaneuvering him at each and every turn.  If the proposed Six Man Tag Team Match does go down on May 6, will Jonny Storm be able to hold onto his power?  If not, it's a loooooong way down for Storm.

LIW Newsline - 5/3/06

We are three days away from the May 6th show in Buffalo, and we have some major match announcements and news to share here in the Newsline!  Tickets are already selling very well due largely to the name value of Chris Jericho, but after reading this we are confident that the fans from across the state, Canada, and even the greater Northeast will realize just how stacked this show is.  The stakes are going to be so high that the booking committee has officially named the show Showdown in Buffalo.  You'll see why in just a moment.  Before we can get to that, however, we have some unfortunate news to report.

Michael Shane announced to the booking committee yesterday that after several years in the business and only achieving moderate success anywhere he went, he will be leaving the wrestling business to pursue other endeavors.  Shane has apparently been discussing the possibility of retiring with Frankie Kazarian for several months now, and reportedly felt that their second defeat at the hands of the International Thug Syndicate in as many shows proved that things simply weren't going to improve.  With that in mind, he has declined to re-sign his contract, and will not be seen again in LIW.  His partner, Frankie Kazarian, has decided to continue competing in Long Island Wrestling, but is not yet sure whether he wishes to pursue a singles run or to find a new tag team partner.

Randy Orton has officially accepted the challenge of Kevin Nash and Cactus Jack, and it has been approved by the booking committee.  When asked who he had found for his partner, Randy Orton simply stated that it was a man who had made a huge impact on LIW.  When pressed, he replied "Wait and see!  According to the stipulations of the match, I don't have to announce who my partner is.  Cactus Jack and Kevin Nash may be over the hill, but they didn't achieve the success they achieved by being stupid.  If I tell you who my partner will be, they'll read it on the Newsline and be that much more prepared for me.  I'm better than them, but I'm not inclined to take any chances."

Finally, the match we've all been waiting for has been signed.  "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm will lead El Mephisto and "Shining Light" Stevie Knight into battle against Frank Shamrock, Chris "HAIL!" Sabin and "The Monster" Edward Chastain.  New Europe and The Usurpers will collide in a Stable Showdown match.  This innovative match is a six man elimination tag team match with a catch!  If the leader of either stable (Jonny Storm or Frank Shamrock) is defeated, the match will be over, with their stable coming out the loser!  This is a situation which both stables must try to avoid, because this match carries a stipulation where the losing group MUST disband and cease functioning as a unit.  If they fail to do so, all offenders will be suspended.  New Europe is easily the most influential group in the history of Long Island Wrestling, but ever since they lost former New York State Heavyweight Champion Alex Wright and The Usurpers recruited "The Monster" Edward Chastain, New Europe has been in a steady decline.  If New Europe can somehow defeat The Usurpers, they may be able to regain the prestige they have lost.  If not... the Usurpers will have succeeded in their goal: to take the top of Long Island Wrestling by storm!
