LIW A Challenge Accepted - 2/26/05

Critic of the DawnPosted on 01/02/05 at 05:12:07

Happy new year, everybody!  As a new year's present, have the next LIW card!  Yes.  Whether you want it or not.  The results of this card actually surprised me a great deal, but I think I like the direction things seem to be moving themselves.  So rather than talking about it more at this point, I'll shut up and start the show.

A Challenge Accepted starts off with a bang as tonight's first Challenge Match kicks things off.  In this fastpaced encounter, "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm took on "The Hardcore Legend" Mick Foley.  After his quick loss in the main event of LIW's first show, Storm rashly announced that he was capable of defeating both Mick Foley and La Parka Jr. in one single evening.  This challenge was accepted, and for the sake of fairness, a match between Foley and La Parka Jr. was also sanctioned for this evening.

After some initial brawling, Mick Foley seemed lost in the ring against Jonny Storm.  Most of Foley's experience is in dealing with heavyweight opponents who use power and brawling to try to wear him down.  For a man as tough as Mick Foley, that's the ideal kind of opponent.  Jonny Storm, on the other hand, focused more on tiring Foley out with his much greater speed until an opening presented itself for a high impact pinning combination such as his Super Rewind Huracanrana.  To Foley's credit, he adapted quickly, slowing the brawl down with a series of hard strikes and taking the action out of the ring.  Unfortunately for him, Jonny Storm managed to evade Foley's attempts to bring a table into play, and once Foley had to re-enter the ring to avoid a countout, he had exactly the opportunity he was looking for.

Jonny Storm is up 1-0 in tonight's Round Robin.  Mick Foley is at 0-1.

Rating: 3/4*

After his defeat last month at the hands of Simon Diamond, Kensuke Sasaki knew he had a lot to learn about American Wrestling.  From what he tells us, he's been spending most of his free time working out with American training partners and watching videos of major American matches from the past.  The difference was evident in this match, where he found himself against a monster of a man in "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner.  Steiner may not be the chain-wrestler he once was, but he's scary strong, and he can still throw a mean suplex.  Sasaki matched him suplex for suplex, however, and threw in his Power Special Stranglehold and a few stiff savate kicks as well for good measure.  In the end, Sasaki used his not inconsiderable strength to hoist Steiner up and drop him down on his head with a Northern Lights Bomb for the victory.

The winner is Rico. Time of match: 0:05:43

Rico pinned Lash LeRoux after a powerslam in 0:05:43.
Rating: ** 1/2

After Lash LeRoux dominated the 5-Man Elimination Match at LIW's debut show, eliminating Rico early in the match, any other outcome than a decisive victory by LeRoux seemed unlikely tonight.  Rico, however, knows just how to get inside an opponents head, and started the match by transitioning the initial lockup into a full on liplock on the stunned Cajun.  Caught off balance, a series of martial arts kicks and slams quickly overwhelmed LeRoux before he could even begin to start a comeback.  As Rico prances off to the back with a victory, Lash LeRoux regains his feet and wipes his mouth, still looking incredulous.

Considering LeRoux will be teaming with Arn Anderson in tag team action later tonight, this isn't a good start for the Ragin' Cajun.

(Jonny Storm is backstage drinking from a bottle of water.  One might expect
that he would be celebrating his upset victory over Mick Foley earlier this
evening, but Storm looks like he is deadly serious.)

Jonny Storm: And so, just as I had said, Mick Foley has fallen before The
British Sensation.  He didn't take me seriously as a threat, and he paid for
it.  But this victory is just the beginning.  Foley has become my first
stepping stone, but another is before me tonight.  La Parka Jr.  Last month
at Blast Off, he got lucky with a powerslam out of nowhere and pinned me.  This
month, he won't be quite as lucky... oh no.  This time he has nobody to back
him up.  The Hardcore Legend isn't there to do his dirty work.  It's just me
and the Son of 1,000 Bones.  La Parka... when I finish with you, you're gonna
be the Man of 1,000 Broken Bones!  Now... come and have a go if you're hard
enough!

Rating: ****

What a match!  This was a luncha-style high flying bout which had the crowd on their feet throughout the entire match!  Despite having already wrestled earlier this evening, Jonny Storm brought his A game, facing La Parka head on in an incredibly athletic display.  La Parka apparently didn't take Storm as seriously as he had to either, stopping numerous times to dance for the crowd and wasting his time with goofy moves like butt-bumps when far more was necessary to stop The British Sensation.  By the time La Parka Jr. realized he was making a mistake, Jonny Storm had him right where he wanted him, and a Super Rewind Huracanrana put the Son of 1,000 Bones down for the count.

With this victory, Jonny Storm earns a perfect 2-0 in tonight's challenge matches.  Mick Foley will face off against La Parka Jr. later tonight to see who will take second place.

This match had high stakes, as whichever tag team came out on top here tonight was going to win a Long Island Wrestling contract.  The teams brought in for this invitational match didn't dissappoint either - the prolific teaming of Edge and Christian faced off against Chuck Palumbo and Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli of the F.B.I. with their manager Nunzio.  Nunzio definately gave an advantage to the F.B.I., as he was able to discretely break up several pin attempts against them.  In the end, however, Edge and Christian were simply too good for the F.B.I. to defeat, and thus they will be the newest additions to the LIW tag team roster.

(Arn Anderson is sitting backstage taping up his wrists as Lash LeRoux comes
over, still looking pissed off from his defeat at the hands of Rico earlier
tonight.)

Arn Anderson: Hey.  You okay?

Lash LeRoux: I'm madder'n a crocidile bein' chased by a fanboat 'cross the
Bayou, Double A.  What th'hell was that?

Arn Anderson: I've seen it before.  Rico gets his victories by throwing his
opponents off of their game.  You let him get to you, and you paid the price.

Lash LeRoux: Maybe.  Ahdunno.

Arn Anderson: But look.  You have to put it behind you now.  Our match is up
next, LeRoux.  I need the Ragin' Cajun on my side, not someone worried about
a past loss.  So listen.  Don't worry about it now.  We'll figure things out
later.  For now, we kick some ass.  Then we can get some dinner and see if we
can't get you a rematch.

Lash LeRoux: Sounds good'ta me, man.  Know a place 'round here where they got
good crawdads?

Arn Anderson: No.  No I don't.

Lash LeRoux: NO CRAWDADS?  LASH SMASH!

That didn't take long.  After a brief exchange between the 6 men in this match, things settled into a confrontation between Arn Anderson and "Heavy D" Don Harris.  The two brawled back and forth for a few moments, then Harris hoisted Anderson up and delivered a devestating Power Bomb for a quick three count.  As The Harris Twins left to Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," Lash LeRoux and Team USA helped Double A back to his feet.  As he headed for the back, he was heard to say "I'm getting too old for this crap..."

(Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf blares as Mick Foley makes his way back to the

Mick Foley: Well...  I've got to admit that I'm surprised and impressed.  Jonny
Storm proved himself to me.  He proved that not only is he a hell of a
wrestler, he's a hell of a jackass!  BANG BANG!  Mick Foley is no man's
stepping stone, Storm!  And so help me god, the next time we meet I will rip
you limb from limb!  And that brings me to our main event tonight.  It looks
like La Parka Jr. and I will be facing off for Second Place.  Let me tell you
all now: I am sick and tired of losing!  I have no intention of underestimating
my opponent again!  La Parka, when you step into the ring with me tonight, you
are going to be Vader to me.  You are going to be Raven.  You will be The
Undertaker, The Rock, Triple H, Randy Orton, Ric Flair, and every other son of
a bitch that's caused me and my family pain and suffering over the years!  So
bring your skeletal ass out here, do your stupid dance, and let's go!  You think
you can beat me again?  TRY IT!  SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

Rating: **** 1/4

Mick Foley and La Parka Jr. both gave this match everything they had, and considering the hell that Jonny Storm put both of them through earlier tonight, it was impressive how well they managed to fight.  Foley controlled a large portion of this match, using his size and brawling skills to dictate the pace to his smaller opponent.  La Parka Jr. is fairly sturdily built for a Lunchadore, however, so he was able to battle back several times and take control of the match with exactly the kind of fastpaced offense that Foley has proven to be unable to deal with.

In the end, though, the match came down to the simple fact that La Parka, wearing a mask, was almost impossible to target effectively with the Mandible Claw, especially when Foley made a point to execute it with Mr. Socko over his hand.  Without the ability to actually get the claw into La Parka Jr.'s mouth, he was left without much of a strategy other than to try to simply outlast his foe.  And considering the fact that Jonny Storm came to ringside and passed several foreign objects to La Parka, Foley never stood much of a chance.  Eventually, La Parka Jr. trapped Foley in a medio cangrejo submission hold, forcing Foley to tap out in the middle of the ring.

Thus, in tonight's challenge matches Jonny Storm was 1st with a perfect record, La Parka Jr. was 2nd with a win and a loss, and Mick Foley ended up looking at the lights in both of his matches.

Foley looks almost physically ill after losing once again, and stares down at the sock on his hand accusingly.  After a few moments, he pulls Mr. Socko off of his hand and drops it to the ground, then slowly leaves the ring, a decidedly unstable look on his face.

Card rating: ** 1/2

Wow... Jonny Storm goes 2-0.  More surprisingly, Foley goes 0-2.  Doesn't he know that he's supposed to book himself as unstoppable?  Geez.

Lash Leroux (who doth rule, by the way) and Arn Anderson not looking great.  And damn you for double-booking already! :)

Edge and Christian in LIW!  Woo!  That totally reeks of awesomeness.

YEAH! Go Storm, he needed the win here after jobbing in the triple threat match, so this pleases me greatly. It's a pity he didn't get his second win in the final match as the Parka/Foley clash was a bit anticlimatic but I guess that can't be helped.
TerryFunkaPosted on 01/02/05 at 20:51:56

could we possibly see a show where foley quadruple books himself as dude love, mick foley, cactus jack and mankind?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 01/03/05 at 17:48:37

Guess Foley was talking to Socko during the booking classes taught by Triple H and Jeff Jarrett.  I was actually surprised that Storm won the Round Robin, as he had the weakest position, facing two fresh opponents.  Foley faced a fresh opponent and one who had already wrestled, and La Parka Jr. had two opponents who had already competed.  I agree, though, that this victory has done great things for Jonny Storm - he's already on my HOT list after only 2 shows.  Having Storm in the main event would have been nice, but this sort of thing happens occasionally when you run unbooked.

As for LeRoux and Anderson falling so quickly... well, LeRoux had already wrestled.  And Double A is getting old.  See if you can get up from a powerbomb when you're his age!

I was surprised to see Edge and Christian and the F.B.I.  I'd be more than happy to have either team on my roster, although I must confess that I was rooting for the F.B.I..  E&C are a great team, though.  I just hope I can do them justice.

With regards to Foley being quadruple booked under all his personas in one show... don't hold your breath.  The personas may come into play at some point, however.

LIW Newswire - 3/6/05

LIW returns to bring the best wrestling on the East Coast to Long Island on March 26, 2005!  Tickets are available now, and are selling fast.  If you want the best seats, we urge you not to wait and buy them at the door, or you may be dissappointed!

For those of you who missed him last month, Don Juan will be in action again in March.  This rising star is still hoping to make an impact, and has requested an exhibition match against someone not under LIW contract.  The LIW booking committee has promised to find an opponent for him - but that isn't the most exciting news about this match!  Paul London, a fellow graduate of the Texas Wrestling Academy, has requested and been granted a ringside seat to observe the progress of his former training partner.

La Parka Jr. was dissappointed by his loss to Jonny Storm and during a visit to the booking committee launched into a 10 minute interpretive dance challenging Storm to a rematch.  They apparently are working on other plans for Storm, but Jonny Storm has promised that he has a satisfactory replacement for La Parka Jr. to face instead.

"Power Warrior" Kensuke Sasaki has had a difficult time here in LIW so far, and has been forced to learn some difficult lessons about American Style professional wrestling.  He has therefore requested a Triangle Match against the two men he has faced thus far - Scott Steiner and Simon Diamond.  Sasaki believes that if he can prove himself against two American Wrestlers of this calibre, he may be ready to step up into a more high-profile role.  This will be a match to watch!

In our main event, "The King of Old School" Steve Corino will be returning for what should be the last time for a long time due to his Zero-One committments.  In thanks for the business he's brought to us, LIW has told him he can make any match he wishes for himself against any wrestler or wrestlers not already signed for a match on the 26th.  We'll have details soon on his choice.

The card thus far:

* Don Juan vs. A challenger selected by LIW, Paul London will be watching.
* La Parka Jr. vs. Jonny Storm's replacement
* Simon Diamond vs. Kensuke Sasaki vs. Scott Steiner
* Steve Corino vs. opponents of his choice.

LIW Newswire - 3/10/05

Tickets are selling out fast for the show on March 26 show, which we have decided to call Corino Returns due to the main event.  For those who haven't been convinced by what's been announced thus far, here's the latest news!

Things will start off fast with a triangle tag team match.  The Harris Twins have used their victory at A Challenge Accepted as justification to challenge Team USA to a rematch from their match at Blast Off.  The Impact Players have requested that they be included, as a win over either of these two teams will shoot them back upward in the LIW tag team rankings after their shocking loss at A Challenge Accepted.

Booker T has publically announced that he is coming out of retirement to compete in LIW, and that he has brought a partner he can trust who has always been there for him as backup.  You have to think that he and his partner (whomever it may be) will be gunning for Octagon and Mikey Whipwreck after the savage beatdown they dealt to him at Blast Off.  For the moment, however, Booker and his partner will be facing Arn Anderson and Lash LeRoux.  Anderson and LeRoux need a victory here, but if Booker's partner is any good at all, they might have some difficulty - Booker T has been a member of some extremely dangerous tag teams!

After his spectacular victory at A Challenge Accepted, Jonny Storm declared that he had already proven that he was the greatest wrestler in LIW today, and thus the entire roster was beneath him.  As a response, the booking committee has declared that he will be in competition against a wrestler chosen just to face him.  Who will it be?  And will Storm continue to prove that he's as sensational as his nickname claims?

Mick Foley has been out of contact with LIW officials ever since watching the lights in both of his Challenge Matches on February 26.  Accordingly, he has been booked in a 5 Man Elimination Match to be held for ranking purposes.  Also in this match will be Mikey Whipwreck, Rico, Frank Shamrock and Octagon.  Can Foley turn his fortunes around?  Or will he continue to have trouble?

Finally, we have received word from Steve Corino about his choice for his dream match in the main event of Corino Returns.  Though The King of Old School has never been a fan of WWE wrestling, he admits that he always enjoyed watching Edge and Christian.  Thus, he has requested a chance to compete against them in a Tag Team Match.  When asked who he wanted as a partner, he said he didn't care, so long as they had been successful in LIW thus far.  Accordingly, the main event will be Steve Corino and Too Cold Scorpio taking on Edge and Christian in a tag team match!  Will Corino gain a victory in his dream match?  Or will Edge and Christian show us just why they've held the WWE Tag Team Titles so many times together?

The final card for 3/26/05 is:

* The Harris Twins vs. Team USA vs. The Impact Players
* Booker T & His Partner vs. Arn Anderson & Lash LeRoux
* Don Juan vs. A challenger selected by LIW.  Paul London will be at ringside.
* La Parka Jr. vs. Jonny Storm's replacement
* Jonny Storm vs. A challenger selected by LIW
* Mick Foley vs. Mikey Whipwreck vs. Rico vs. Frank Shamrock vs. Octagon - 5 Man Elimination
* Simon Diamond vs. Kensuke Sasaki vs. Scott Steiner
* Steve Corino & Too Cold Scorpio vs. Edge & Christian

We'll see you there!
