Major Announcement From Mick Foley

Critic of the DawnPosted on 12/25/04 at 00:52:37

Well, here's the new project I mentioned on the last NDW card (which you should go look at if you haven't yet).  This promotion will be based on a ruleset I've been working on based on Ring of Honor's past shows.  As the circuit moves along, I will be posting these rules in the Discussion Forum for anyone who wishes to use them.  Hopefully I'll have as much fun with this circuit as I did with NDW, and hopefully everyone else will enjoy reading it.

From PWInsider.com:

Word has reached us that there has been a major development in the ongoing Mick Foley situation.  For those who haven't been following this story, Mick Foley cut all ties with WWE after their heavy promotion of Ric Flair's autobiography.  Foley was furious to learn that WWE was promoting the fact that Ric Flair had called him nothing more than a "glorified stuntman" as one of the main selling points of the book.

Mick has made few public appearances since leaving WWE, but during a shoot interview was quoted as saying that he had a major project in the works.  There was speculation that he was speaking of a new novel, or perhaps of another book on the wrestling industry.  However, this latest news indicates that neither of these theories were correct.

Instead, in a telephone interview with Dave Scherer, Mick Foley revealed that he has been working out in preperation for a return to the ring!  When asked if he planned to confront Flair, perhaps in a Wrestlemania match, Foley denied it, stating that after WWE's actions he was not willing to work with them again without a formal apology.  Apparently Foley is instead starting his own promotion in his native Long Island.  Liscencing, venues, and talent have all proven to be fairly easy for Foley to acquire due to the fact that he has made quite a few friends in the New York State Athletic Commission over the years.  We will have more details as they become available.
Welcome to the home of Long Island Wrestling, a promotion founded and funded by Mick Foley.  As you read in the above excerpt from PWInsider.com, Mick Foley feels he has something to prove after his name was dragged through the mud on national television.  At the same time, he doesn't want to enrich the McMahons after their role in all of this, and he's hoping to give something back to the professional wrestling business.  At the same time, he also misses "the chance to kick a little ass from time to time."

Therefore, instead of simply disagreeing with Flair's words, he has decided to put his money where his mouth is.  Work is still ongoing on this project, but Foley has promised a roster with some of the best talent in the world, and a promotion that the fans can be proud of.  Unfortunately, we cannot bring you any more details on the roster than that at this time, except to confirm that Mick Foley will indeed be returning to active competition!

Keep watching this site for further updates!  Once our roster has been finalized, you'll hear about it here first.

Interesting.  I'm looking forward to the circuit and the ruleset Eric :)

... even though since you said "Ruleset" Ryan is gonna throw a hissy ;) lol
Critic of the DawnPosted on 12/25/04 at 02:21:07

I'm looking forward to it as well, believe me.  Here's hoping I catch lightning in a bottle twice, so to speak.

And Ryan throwing a hissy fit is half the fun.  The other half is Ryan throwing a hissy fit when several other feds start up using the rules! ;D

.........

Both of you suck.

I like rule sets and it is always interesting to see what concepts people come up with for their own circuit. I think this circuit is going to be entertaining. It will be a fresh formula, straying from the OSRs set up by Rick.

Don't encourage them, Murphy. :)

Bwahahahaha!

Don't listen to him, Murphy!  Encourage us!

Negotions with our starting roster have been coming along well, and we feel that we can now begin to reveal who will be competing for LIW.

Obviously, as stated before, Mick Foley himself will both finance LIW and wrestle.  He has, however, put together a small, impartial booking committee tasked with making sure he doesn't take advantage of his position as owner of the company.  Everything is going to be totally legitimate.

Justin Credible and Lance Storm have both agreed to appear for LIW, and all reports indicate that they are eager to reform The Impact Players, their successful tag team from ECW.  Both of these men bring a lot to the table, and together they just may prove that they are still a world class tag team.

The Ragin' Cajun, Lash LeRoux will also be wrestling for LIW.  LeRoux is a very underrated performer, and he promises that he will correct this fact in Long Island... Cajun style.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter have come together for one last run at tag team glory as Team USA.  Though both of these men are getting on in years, they've both proven to be exceptionally dangerous throughout the years.  WIth competition like The Impact Players, though, they may be in for a rough ride!

As if those two teams weren't enough, word is that Ron and Don, the Harris Twins, will be working LIW shows.  The Harris Twins have competed in every major federation at one time or another, but have yet to truly break out as a top level tag team.  Will they make it to the top in LIW?  Or will they fall flat?

Don Juan, a relative newcomer to professional wrestling, will be looking to break out as a major star in LIW.  With names like Mick Foley in the locker room, he's bound to pick up some good pointers.  Will this newcomer make a name for himself, or will he prove easy pickings for his more experienced foes?

The Japanese star "Power Warrior" Kensuke Sasaki has committed to appearing at LIW shows whenever possible.  Sasaki is an extremely dangerous competitor, and wrestles a style unfamiliar to many North American wrestlers.  Will his stiff strikes and submissions give him the edge?

Mick Foley's former tag team partner and former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Mikey Whipwreck has also committed to doing his best to make LIW succeed.  It has been some time since he wrestled a fulltime schedule, however, so word is that he's in search of a tag team partner.

Octagon and La Parka Jr., a highly successful Mexican Tag Team, will be working together to round out the Tag Team division.  These two Lunchadores should bring some excellent high flying action to the Tag Team division.  Will their speed enable them to overcome the experience of Team USA, the sheer power of the Harris Twins, and the... er... impact of the Impact Players?

The flamboyant Rico, a man noted for using his disarming effeminate ways to lure his opponents into a false sense of security before unleashing his formidable martial arts skills, will also be on the roster.  Rico proved his charisma in WWE.  Now, in LIW, he hopes to prove that he is as dangerous as they come.

Submissions expert Frank Shamrock will also be a major part of the roster.  Frank is indeed the younger brother of legendary shootfighter and former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ken Shamrock, and has proven to be every bit as deadly to his opponents.  Shamrock says that he's looking forward to forcing some of the best wrestlers in the world to tap out to the family's ever dangerous Ankle Lock Submission.

We are still in negotiation with several more wrestlers, and will be sure to update you when we can confirm that they will wrestle for us.

Finally, Mick Foley has asked the booking committee to sign a match between him and the best wrestler on the roster as the main event for our first show.  Unfortunately, the booking committee can't seem to decide who this is!  They have since begun to review tapes of those already confirmed for the roster as well as those who are still negotiating.   We should have an announcement on this matter, as well as a final roster, within a few days.

Im glad to see that you have incorporated the two greatest tag teams of all time into your circuit. Team USA and the over worked/ under appreciated team of the Harris Twins. I hope that Whipwreck and his partner turn out to be the prized piece of your tag division though.
Critic of the DawnPosted on 12/28/04 at 06:59:46

Team USA actually had a run with the Tag Team Titles in my last circuit, but this is going to be my first time using the Harris Twins.  Hopefully they'll prove to be worthwhile for me...

Long Island Wrestling is pleased to announce that preliminary talent negotions have been completed.  The roster for our debut show has, therefore, been completely set, and believe us when we tell you that some of the best talent has been saved for last!

For starters, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner has signed on with LIW.  Steiner is a tremendously powerful freak, and with his unnaturally large muscles he may just be the strongest man on the LIW roster.  Steiner is also known for being a loose cannon, so who knows what might happen with him in a Long Island Wrestling ring?

Veteran high flier Too Cold Scorpio has also signed on.  Scorpio has wrestled in the world's largest promotions and learned more than a few tricks.  But the current generation of talent is seemingly faster and more willing to take risks than any before.  Can Scorpio's skills hold up against the new generation?

ECW and TNA alum Simon Diamond will also be making his way up to Long Island to compete on the hottest card New York State has to offer.  Diamond feels that he's been overlooked in favor of less talented and less charismatic wrestlers time and time again, and claims that in LIW, he will be all business as he fights his way to the top.

Legendary wrestler "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson has agreed to come out of retirement for a chance to compete with some of today's best.  Anderson has wrestled in venues across the world as one of the core members of the Four Horsemen.  In LIW he will be going it alone and putting his devestating Spinebuster to the test.

Revently retired WWE superstar Booker T has expressed interest in helping LIW to succeed, but he claims that he isn't willing to come out of retirement to wrestle.  Therefore, Mick Foley has worked out a deal which grants Booker T a spot as one of LIW's referees!  With a man like Booker T in charge, you have to expect that people will think twice before trying any underhanded tactics.  Booker T has not only seen them all, he has the strength and speed required to make anyone who crosses him very sorry.

Finally, one of the top young wrestlers from the UK has agreed to join the LIW crew.  "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm has been making waves on both sides of the Atlantic with his high-flying exploits, and we feel that a talent of his caliber would do an excellent job of representing the UK in LIW.

....

After spending quite some time reviewing tapes, the LIW Booking Committee has come to an impasse.  Some members believe that La Parka Jr. is deserving of the main event slot against Mick Foley at our upcoming first ever show, while others are certain that "The British Sensation" Jonny Storm would be the only fitting challenger.  After numerous attempts to change each others' minds, they have had no choice but to declare the first show's main event a Triangle Match between La Parka Jr., Jonny Storm, and Mick Foley!

Because La Parka is otherwise occupied, his tag team partner Octagon has agreed to team up with Mikey Whipwreck, who has been seeking a tag team partner anyway, to take on the Impact Players.  To make things even more interesting, Booker T is signed to be the referee for this contest, so no funny business will be tolerated.  Will the makeshift tag team of Mikey Whipwreck and Octagon have time to come up with a plan before the first show, or will the expreienced Impact Players roll over them on their quest for tag team glory.

Don Juan has issued an open challenge to any veteran in the locker room, claiming that he is young, he is hungry, and that he is ready to prove himself as a breakout star.  Too Cold Scorpio has accepted this challenge, stating that while he hasn't wrestled in the US much in years, he is absolutely certain that Don Juan isn't good enough to beat him.

In a special attraction match, Mick Foley has called in a favor from his friend Steve Corino of the Zero-One promotion in Japan.  Corino claims that Zero-One is looking to defend their top title in the US to increase its prestige, and that he has gotten the okay for a title match between himself and Zero-One's United National Heavyweight Champion Takao Omori at our first show.  LIW would like to thank Steve Corino and Zero-One for making this possible.

Finally, our main event should be interesting.  Both La Parka Jr. and Jonny Storm are high flying, high speed wrestlers, while Mick Foley is quite a bit slower and less athletic, but his brawling skills are second to none.  He also has approximately 100 pounds of weight advantage over both of his opponents in the main event.  Foley claims that while his foes are extremely fast, he only has to catch one of them for a few seconds to end the match.  When asked about this, Storm just laughed and said that Foley would never catch him in the first place, allowing Storm to wear his opponent down long enough to get the advantage.  La Parka, on the other hand, The British Sensation referred to as more of a threat.  La Parka Jr., on the other hand, simply did a funny little dance when asked about his strategy for the upcoming match, then hit our interviewer with a chair.

I love how La Parka and his dances seems to be catching on in TNM circles. I would claim to have started it myself but I stole the idea from someone else.
