NDW Week 56 - Code Red

Critic of the DawnPosted on 11/04/04 at 06:02:47

Geez.  I'm definately slowing down with these... which might be a good thing.  I only have 4 or so left until I run out of rules.  When that happens, NDW is going to go on hiatus until some new ones are released, whenever that happens.  In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy seeing where things go in what time remains, since the rules WILL at least allow me to see the crowning of the next champion.

Anyway, here's the card.

Dementia (Sean O'Haire and Damian 666) and Overpower (A-Train and Ahmed Johnson)
battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: 3/4*
[Nidia interfered against Ahmed Johnson.]

NDW starts off with a bang tonight as Dementia and A-Train and Ahmed Johnson battle to a draw.  With the recent decision by management that there would be a clean start in NDW, it has become vitally important to pick up each and every victory, and thus both of these teams went all out until the time had expired.  O'Haire seemed to be at a disadvantage in this match, as he's used to having a considerable size advantage over most of his opponents - something which is just about impossible when facing a pair of heavyweights like A-Train and Ahmed Johnson.

Thanks for joining us here tonight.  Tonight we have a group of matches that should be a lot of fun on tap.  Shane Douglas of Overpower and "The Midnight Rider" Dusty Rhodes of Team TCW will team up against Chuck Palumbo and a partner he's brining in to take Billy Gunn's place.  Also tonight, Legend will face off against Doug Basham in a brutal first blood match, and Nana will team up with Edge and Chris Sabin against the team of Matt Hardy, The Undertaker, and Insane Dragon.  Additionally, Ron Killings and Psicosis will call out America's Most Wanted, and in our main event The Amazing Red will face Ron Simmons with a spot in The Crowning on the line!

The winner is Jimmy Snuka. Time of match: 0:05:56

Triangle Match:
Jimmy Snuka defeated Jim Duggan and Marcos when J. Snuka pinned Marcos with the
Superfly Splash in 0:05:56.
Rating: DUD

This ranking match was almost painful to watch, and it's probably a good thing that it ended when it did.  Neither Snuka or Duggan is the worker they once were (and that's saying something in Duggan's case), and Marcos couldn't have a good match with them even if he tried.  In the end, Snuka picked up another victory here after hitting his legendary Superfly Splash on a stunned Marcos.  As he made his way to the back, Duggan helped his "little buddy" to his feet to the cheers of the crowd.

(The Future are not here tonight, but a pre-taped interview with them airs.
Xavier and Chance Beckett are relaxing in a slightly sleazy looking bar as
interviewer Derek Nadel does his job.)

Derek Nadel: Good evening NDW fans.  I'm here at The Rat with Xavier and Chance
Beckett, considered by many to be one of the top tag teams in New Deal
Wrestling.

Chance Beckett: Considered to be one of the top teams?  Is that so?

Xavier: If we're considered to be one of the best - and we are - then how come
the spotlight isn't on us anymore?  How come everyone is shrieking "Why AMW,
why?"  Why is everyone creaming their panties...

Chance Beckett: Dude, you can't say that.

Derek Nadel: Please go on... but keep the language down.

Chance Beckett: Let me put it this way.  There's a reason we're in this
hellhole this week instead of ripping up the canvas and dominating the tag team
scene.  It's because the fans want to see AMW lose.  The fans want to see what
Hardy and 'Taker do.  The fans want Dementia to rise to the top.  And the fans
want to see Edge and Sabin win the titles.

Xavier: We're not a priority anymore, Derek, and that's a damn crime.  With a
record like ours, we should be getting a title shot next week, not Edge and
Sabin!

Derek Nadel: Look, guys, one of the reasons I'm here is to tell you that you
haven't gotten lost in the shuffle.  Next week you're being granted a Top
Contenders match against Dementia for the Tag Team Titles.  If you win that,
you'll be getting a shot at earning back your gold.

Chance Beckett: That...

Xavier: ...will do nicely.

[Ron Simmons interfered against Danny Basham.]

Danny Basham, the brawler of the Basham Brothers, came out here expecting a competitive match against the huge brawler Balls Mahoney.  What he got was a chair to the back and a DQ victory seconds before being laid out with the Nutcracker Suite.  Mahoney had him hoisted up for a second one when Doug ran out for the save with a chair of his own, prompting Simmons to bail and leaving Mahoney to take a chair to the head.  Looks like we may be seeing a Basham Brothers vs. Ron Simmons & Balls Mahoney match sometime in the near future...

Rating: * 3/4
[Nunzio interfered against Shane Douglas.]

Chuck Palumbo's partner is... none other than Slash!  Slash has returned to New Deal Wrestling!  We thought he was gone for good after New Jack turned on him, but here he is!

This match proved to be a non-start, as Palumbo's manager Nunzio pulled down the top rope, spilling Overpower's Shane Dougals to the outside and earning Chuck Palumbo a DQ.  Dusty and Douglas head down the aisle laughing as Slash asks Palumbo what exactly just happened.  Palumbo defends the actions of his manager and turns his back on Slash... only to spin back around and send him staggering into the ropes with a Discus Punch!  Slash bounces off the rope and staggers forward, right into a Jungle Kick by Palumbo!  What the hell just happened here?

First Blood No-Countout-No-DQ-Match:
Legend defeated Doug Basham in 0:01:56.
Rating: **

Legend was looking for a quick victory when he challenged Doug Basham, the grappler of the Basham Brothers, to a First Blood Match this week, and that's exactly what he got.  After tossing Basham out of the ring, Legend hit a quick Tope Con Hilo, knocking Doug Basham into the barricade and cutting his forehead open on the hard metal.  Basham, for his part, appeared distracted by the recent issue with Simmons and Mahoney, so clearly he was his own worst enemy here tonight.

(The Amazing Red's music hits, and the small but talented high-flyer makes his
way to the ring.)

Red: I've been here in NDW since the beginning, tagging with Funaki and
stealing the show night after night.  I've racked up more wins than almost
anyone, but somehow I've never been given a shot at the titles.  I was in the
Crowning Tournament a year ago, but I was seen as a dark horse at best.  And,
after all this time, I think my record speaks for itself.  I am *the* top
high-flyer in NDW, and quite possibly the best in the world.  And I've managed
to prove that week after week while entertaining you, the great NDW fans!

(The crowd pops)

Red: Now, finally, I have another chance at the big time.  I've never held
gold here in NDW, and it's about time I do.  Therefore, tonight in the main
event, I'll be facing former WCW World Champion Ron Simmons in a qualifying
match.  And Simmons... believe me, I've never been more serious about earning
a victory than I am tonight.  So everyone... wish me luck.  I'm going for the
gold!

in 0:13:29.
Rating: *** 1/4

This was an exciting brawl which gave the fans a preview of next week's Best of the Best vs. Ultimate Alliance tag team title match.  From the start Edge's team worked hard to isolate Matt Hardy, scoring with the Brutalizer early on for a nearfall.  Hardy tried to battle back on the outside, putting Sabin through a table and nearly hitting the Twist of Fate, but Sabin was able to escape it and take Hardy down with the Future Shock.  Rolling Hardy back into the ring, Sabin locked in a Canadian Backbreaker and the referee, seeing Hardy was out cold, awarded Sabin the match.  The Undertaker stormed in for the save as Nana and Dragon battled on the outside, but a Spear by Edge took the big man down!

Sabin and Edge are triumphant, and as they stand above their fallen foes, they hold the tag team titles high before dropping them on their chests.  If things go the same way next week, we will have new Global Tag Team Champions!

(Dusty Rhodes and America's Most Wanted, all wearing TCW shirts, can be seen
backstage.)

Chris Harris: That was brilliant.  Add one more star to TCW's lineup!

James Storm: It's a shame, too.  NDW has held Palumbo back.  In TCW, he's going
to get a fair shot at the top... of course, he'll have to get through us to get
there, but it's good business.  The fans want to see strong matches like that,
and they aren't getting them here.

Dusty Rhodes: It'th a shame that ah have to uthe mah money an' mah influenth to
cauth thingth like what just happened, but ya' don't get to the top without
doin' a bit o'Clubberin'.  Chuck Palumbo ith gonna live the'merican Dream, just
as Duthty Rhodes has, and just as America'th Most Wan-ed are today!

Chris Harris: What you said, Dusty.  There can only be one top company on the
indies, and with guys like Palumbo and us joining the TCW team... it won't be
NDW for much longer.

(Just as Harris is speaking, Overpower walks past.)

Shane Douglas: Excuse me?  What the (CENSORED) did you just (CENSORED) say?

A-Train: If you didn't notice, Palumbo just demonstrated his intentions to join
Overpower again.

James Storm: Bull!  You guys don't even have a leader, much less a reason for
a blue chipper like Palumbo to join you.

A-Train: I swear it's true!  If it isn't, then I'm not a steam-powered death
machine!

(Team TCW blinks)

Dusty Rhodes: Pardon my curiothity, thon, but ah was wonderin' what exactly is
wrong with your head?  Maybe your brain is clogged up with that back hair'o
yours?

Ahmed Johnson: HAGH!  YAUGH CAUGH SAGH TAK!

Dusty Rhodes: Ah beg your pardon?  Ah'm jutht a common man, an' ah don't
underthand your manner ah speakin', sir.

Shane Douglas: Oh, Jesus (CENSORED) Christ, not you too...

Johnny Ace: What!  It's sometimes hard to understand Ahmed!  It's not because
he's black, he just needs to enunciate!

A-Train: Racism hurts my feelings, Johnny.  I'd expect that sort of thing from
a washed up wannabe cowboy like Dusty, but you should know better.

Duthty... er... Dusty Rhodes: A wannabe cowboy?  You're cruisin' fer a
Clubberin', boy!  And maybe Ah'll have mah new employee Chuck Palumbo do it for
me!

Ahmed Johnson: DAUGH CAGH HEE BAH!

Chris Harris: ...Don't call him boy?

Shane Douglas: He's Jewish, you racist (CENSORED)!  If there's one thing we
can't stand it's (CENSORED) bigots!  Except Johnny.  He's okay.

Johnny Ace: I'm not a racist!  I like all of you guys!  And I'm sure that when
you... (pointing to Dusty) ...talk to Palumbo, he'll set you straight.

James Storm: Whatever.  You leaderless morons move along, and we'll see who has
Palumbo in their pocket next week.

[Dusty Rhodes interfered against Psicosis.]

Ron Killings and Psicosis took it to AMW with a fury, showing why they are two of the top talents in NDW today.  Unfortunately for them, they didn't have a plan in place for the interference of Dusty Rhodes, and a well placed Bionic Elbow on the outside was all it took for a countout victory to be awarded to AMW.  Can anyone stop America's Most Wanted and Team TCW?

A huge win for Jay Briscoe here!  Briscoe has historically struggled against many of NDW's top tier players, but he was focused on his task here, and after a strong bout he managed to take New Jack down with a series of stiff maneuvers before knocking him out cold with the deadly J-Driller.

Following the match, New Jack's former partner Slash rolled into the ring with a Singapore Cane.  As New Jack staggered to his feet, a shot to the forehead laid him out once again.  Slash hammers away at his downed former partner until referees rush the ring to seperate them.

This was a hell of a match which shows just how important the Global Heavyweight Title is.  There were those who didn't expect much from Simmons, as his best days are truthfully behind him.  But for this night, at least, he fought with all of his passion for a mere chance at winning the richest prize in indepent wrestling: The Global Heavyweight Title.  The Amazing Red was no less determined, and with the blazing speed that is his trademark he set about wearing down his opponent.  It took 45 full minutes, but in the end, Simmons went down - not to a high flying maneuver, for he had kicked out of nearly every one in Red's arsenal - but to a Cristo submission hold.  With no chance of escape, the exhausted Simmons tapped out, giving Red entry into The Crowning alongside Edge.

Card rating: ** 3/4

Match of the Evening: Ron Simmons vs. Red

Wow.  From the return of Slash to the turn of Chuck Palumbo and his uncertain status, this was an eventful night to say the least.  Next week just might be even bigger, though.

To start things off, Red will face off against Ron Simmons in a rematch of their exciting match tonight.  Will they be able to go as long without such high stakes?  Will Ron Simmons get his win back?  Or will Red continue to cement his status as a top-tier player?

Word has it that The Basham Brothers are lobbying for a shot at Ron Simmons and Balls Mahoney, however, with Ron Simmons busy they will obviously not be getting that shot next week.  Still, we'll be having a word with them to get their reaction to the beatdown.

As promised, The Future will face off against Dementia.  This time, the match will be a Top Contender's Match for the Global Tag Team Titles.  Can O'Haire and Damian 666 pull out a victory here, or will The Future come through in the end as they have so many times in the past?

There will be two more qualifying matches for The Crowning next week.  First, "The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm will face "The Original Gangsta" New Jack.  Will New Jack be at 100% after Slash's return this week?  And will Slash have anything to say about New Jack?  Additionally, Sean O'Haire will face off against Xavier.  These two will actually end up facing each other twice next week, once in singles competition and once in tag teams.  In both cases, a shot at the gold is at stake!

There are rumors going around that Overpower has selected a new leader.  However, we aren't certain of just who it might be.  Perhaps next week we'll be able to find out.

Word has it that Dusty Rhodes and Shane Douglas will team up again next week, this time facing off against Nana & Trent Acid.  Considering what was said this week, can they work together?  And will Chuck Palumbo play a role?

Chris "HAIL" Sabin got an impressive victory this week over the always formidable Matt Hardy.  Hardy was reportedly furious, and has demanded a singles match next week before the main event against the man who knocked him out with the Future Shock!

Killings and Psicosis were reportedly disgusted by their failure to defeat AMW this week, thanks mainly to Dusty's interference.  Therefore, they have requested a match against any TCW tag team who is willing to stand up for the man who signs their checks.  NDW won't sanction this match although we will allow it to happen in a NDW ring, and we are slightly uncomfortable about the actions of Dusty Rhodes, but so long as he doesn't actually take any talent away from us, we won't interfere.

Finally, in our main event, The Ultimate Alliance of Matt Hardy and The Undertaker will defend the Global Tag Team Titles against Best of the Best.  Which dream pairing will control the tag team gold at the end of the night?

Tune in to find out!

;D Racist Johnny Ace. Overpower remains the most enjoyable aspect of your circuit. And may I make a prediction - new tag team champions on the next show. I feel Edge has the making of Hardy this time out.

Let me start by saying how glad I am that Red won. I like Ron Simmons, about 5 years ago.  The right man went over there.

Raciest Johnny Ace rules so much.  Almost as good as real life releasing half the WWE roster Johnny Ace!

The main event for card 57 shall rule.  I think it may be Sabin and Edge time to hold the gold.  Woot comma woot.

HAHA! Too funny.

Still, I often find myself defining a circuit by its getting someone really over with me who's never been a big star in any other fed. Overpower and Johnny Ace have really done it for me.

Next week's main event looks extremely strong, yes.  I have to go with 'Taker and Hardy to retain, though.  Both of them have been consistant top level performers in NDW, while Chris Sabin has been a level below.  Still, as said, Edge has defeated Hardy in most of their confrontations, so it should be interesting to say the least.

I'm definately pleased that Red went over.  After using him as a special attraction for so long, I think he's finally ready to move up the card, and he showed it with his victory here.  Simmons is definately well past his prime, but then, he's hardly the only one in NDW.

Overpower as a whole has been gold for me ever since it began.  It created Julio Dinero as a credible (if cheat-happy) main event player, and has turned Johnny Ace and the crew into a very funny grouping.  I've got an interesting direction planned for them, so... stay tuned.
