NDW Week 37 - The End of the Road

Critic of the DawnPosted on 05/24/04 at 19:32:47

As the last card before the Rumble in the Bronx, this is quite obviously a big one.  The stakes are high in the main event, and even though it broke my long run of ****+ Main Events, it still lived up to expectations in a big way.  The Rumble in the Bronx is going to be huge, and I for one can't wait to see who comes out on top.

(We move backstage, where Red and Funaki await the camera.)

Red: A-Train, Julio Dinero, I just wanted to let you know that Funaki and I
hereby accept your challenge!  Prepare yourselves, because Funaki and I are
going to-

Funaki: Wait!  We cannot fight them with those stakes!

Red: Why not, Funaki?

Funaki: Because A-Train smells-

Red: Very very bad, yes.  We've been through this.

Funaki: Yes!  But that is not all!  Because of this, the only way we can fight
is if this is an... antipersperant on a pole match!

This match was exactly what was advertised.  A train wreck.  Ahmed Johnson came out on top of the powerful A-Train, much to the surprise and delight of the fans.

(Chance Beckett's music hits and the Global Heavyweight Champion makes his
way down to the ring.)

Chance Beckett: I'm not here to waste your time with a long and boring speech
about how much better I am than Edge and all your other favorites - I let my
ringwork speak for itself.  Instead, I'm here to announce that I apparently
have to defend my title at the Rumble in the Bronx.  Therefore, I was looking
for a worthy contender.  In other words, anyone who isn't Deranged.  After some
thought, I realized that there was someone in NDW who has been asking for a
Title Shot for some time now.  And I think you know who he is!  So at the
Rumble in the Bronx, it's be Chance Beckett vs. Chris Sabin for the Global
Heavyweight Title!

This battle was short but brutal.  A-Train interfered heavily against Danny Basham, but in the end it backfired as Basham grabbed a foreign object and waffled Julio Dinero with it, knocking him out cold and picking up the victory.

(A video package plays, claiming that "The truth is out there" in an X-Files
style montage, which was suddenly interrupted as a heavy rap beat began to play
interspersed with shots of Ron "The Truth" Killings in action.  Finally, the
video closed on a single sentence.  "The Truth arrives at the Rumble in the
Bronx!")

The Dynamic Dudes do it again!  This time, Johnny Ace pins The Undertaker with an assist from Insane Dragon of all people!  Johnny Ace began to celebrate... only to walk right into a Franchiser by Shane Douglas, who grabbed a microphone and demanded to know whether he had gotten the attention of NDW yet!  The Franchise has come to NDW, and he's not going to be happy if he isn't on top!

That was... unexpected.  Apparently Red and Funaki were looking for a bit more action, so they waylaid Alex Wright outside of the ring during his match with Chris Sabin, causing him to win an easy countout victory.  Still, the fact that his victory came only with help doesn't bode well for next week's title match against Chance Beckett.

With this victory, Edge has secured for himself the coveted #30 spot in the Rumble in the Bronx, while Matt Hardy will face one hell of an uphill battle when he starts at #1!  Hardy looks furious at Lita, the Referee, and even himself for this major defeat, while Edge celebrates his great win!

But wait, Hardy has rolled back into the ring, and... Twist of Fate on the unsuspecting Edge!  Lita tosses him a microphone, and... he challenges Edge to a Falls Count Anywhere match at the Rumble in the Bronx!  He wants to soften up Edge before the match, even if it hurts his own chances of victory!  This is huge!  And we are out of time!

Card rating: ** 1/4

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: Edge vs. Matt Hardy

And here we are!  Next week is the much anticipated Rumble in the Bronx!

America's Most Wanted will team up together for the first time since James Storm's injury to defend their tag team titles against the duo of Slash and New Jack.  Will James Storm be up to the challenge, or will these hard hitting brawlers steal away the titles?

Edge will meet Matt Hardy in what promises to be an especially brutal Falls Count Anywhere match.  These men have plenty of reason to hate each other, but they also have every reason to be careful in this match!  Will hatred or caution win out?  Only one way to find out!

Overpower will take on Ahmed Johnson and Danny Basham in a match to end the lengthy rivalry between these two teams.  This should be a brutal one, so be sure to catch it!

Chris Sabin will finally get the Title Shot he's been asking for for months now as Chance Beckett defends the Global Heavyweight Title against him.  Both of these men are accomplished grapplers, so this should be a hell of a match!

Finally, we have the Rumble in the Bronx.  The participants announced thus far include Jimmy Snuka, New Jack, Julio Dinero, Ahmed Johnson, Danny Basham, A-Train, Matt Hardy, Edge, Chris Harris, Xavier, Chance Beckett, Billy Gunn, Chuck Palumbo, Alex Wright, Chris Sabin, The Undertaker, Slash, Legend, Insane Dragon, Deranged, James Storm, Marcos, Sean O'Haire, Funaki and the debuting Ron Killings.  There are still a few open spots, and rumor has it that a few former NDW stars may make an appearance!

There's only one way to find out!  See you next week!

poor Chuck-a-Billy.  They can't seem to win.

Nice cover up for his loss by OHaire.

Chance Beckett with the outside interference thanks to The SuperFly!  GREAT!  The battle continues!

AMW is back next week!  And a 4 way dance here that has everyone wanting more.

Antiperspirant on a pole!?!?  This is getting silly.  :)  I like it.

Sabin vs Beckett.. should be good.

ATrain screwed up the interference.. and helped the wrong guy win.  Poor smelly ATrain.

The TRUTH is headed to NDW!  I like him in TNA.

The Dynamic Dudes win!  unfreakinbelieveable!  These guys are kicking butt and taking names of the top stars.

hehe.. Red and Funaki stopped Alex Wright on the floor.  Hail Sabin wins en route to his title match next week.

Edge wins!  #30!  Edge Wins!  Poor Matt Hardy from best in the fed to pulling #1 at Rumble in the Bronx.  At least he's still got Lita.

Former NDW stars in the Rumble... hmm... wonder which ones will appear?  I can't wait to see this one.
