NDW Week 31 - Storming The Future

Critic of the DawnPosted on 05/04/04 at 17:24:18

This is it.  The final card before Caged Fury (name gratuitously yoinked from TNMWA because it's appropriate given the main event).  While this isn't the strongest card I've put on, it does build well to tomorrow's event.  And really, what more can you ask for?

Well, aside from ***** matches like the main event last week.  Sadly, there's nothing to that calibre this week.  But no bother.

This is also the last card I've gotten done, so things might slow down for a few days while I juggle final exams, etc.  Not a major problem.  Should build anticipation for the big card, if nothing else.

The decibel level in the building is unbelievable.

The winners are The Dark Princes. Time of match: 0:12:03

The Dark Princes (The Undertaker and Prince Nana) defeated Edge and Chris Sabin
when Nana pinned Sabin with the Elevated DDT in 0:12:03.
Rating: *** 3/4

Elevated DDT to Chris Sabin!  The Dark Princes go over Edge and Sabin once again with authority.  Considering Edge's problems with Matt Hardy and The Royal Court's internal difficulties, it seems quite likely that this victory will spell the end of their rivalry with Edge for the moment.  Edge has bigger fish to fry, and The Undertaker can claim victory and concentrate on consolidating his power over Prince Nana.

Julio Dinero vs. Funaki

Julio Dinero charges in with an avalanche.
Julio Dinero runs into the ropes.
Funaki hits Julio Dinero with a clothesline.

Julio Dinero goes over Funaki strong here, taking out the Japanese superstar with a series of submission holds before finally putting him away with a brutal STO.

A-Train executes the Derailer on Chris Sabin.
A-Train is going for the cover.

The winner is A-Train. Time of match: 0:02:16

A-Train pinned Chris Sabin after the Derailer in 0:02:16.
Rating: ** 1/2

Derailer to Chris Sabin after only 2 minutes!  And A-Train gets the victory!  Julio Dinero joins his partner to celebrate as the crowd boos loudly.  It's clear that Dinero and A-Train have come here to make an impact, and with their victories this evening they have plainly done so.  Who can stop this powerful duo?

Slash vs. Deranged

Deranged falls out of the ring.

The crowd is on its feet cheering for Deranged.

The winner is Deranged. Time of match: 0:04:52

Deranged defeated Slash by countout in 0:04:52.
Rating: ** 1/2

Slash controlled this match from the start, but a relatively serious mistake on his part enabled Red to get the Victory.  Slash went for a baseball slide out of the ring, but in doing so he smacked his head into the ringstairs, knocked himself out cold, and was counted out.  Oops.  Slash has got to be embarassed about that one.

"The Amazing" Red vs. Sean O'Haire

The crowd erupts.

The winner is Red. Time of match: 0:11:30

Red pinned Sean O'Haire with the InfraRed in 0:11:30.
Rating: ***
[Nidia interfered against Red.]

The Amazing Red shows just how amazing he is by going over the much larger Sean O'Haire.  It took quite a while to put O'Haire away, however, and if Red hadn't been on his game, this match might have ended quite differently.

(Xavier and Chance Beckett can be seen backstage in their dressing room.)

Xavier: So what do you think, Chance?

Chance Beckett: America's Most Wanted really have it in for us.  James Storm
is coming after you this evening, and rumor has it that they'll be granted
another rematch next week!  These are two really tough bastards.

Xavier: Relax.  We didn't win the Tag Team Titles by being weak and frightened,
and I didn't become NDW's first ever Double Champion by worrying whether
my opponents were tough.  The fact is, I'm just tougher.  You and I, we're the
Future of this business.  AMW are good and all, but they've already had a run.
They're in decline.  And you and I... we're going to put the final nails in
their coffins!

"Mr. Ass" Billy Gunn vs. Insane Dragon vs. New Jack vs. "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright

Alex Wright tags out to Insane Dragon.

The bell rings. The time limit has expired.

Four Corners Match:
Insane Dragon drew Billy Gunn, New Jack and Alex Wright in 0:20:00.
Rating: *

These four wrestlers battled to a draw, with none able to gain a clear advantage over the others.  We can only speculate who might have won if the match hadn't ended, but all involved put forth one hell of an effort.

"Mr. Showtime" Chance Beckett vs. "Wildcat" Chris Harris

Chance Beckett runs into the ropes.
Chris Harris hits Chance Beckett with a backdrop.
Chris Harris is going for the cover.

There are lots of chants for Chris Harris.

The winner is Chris Harris. Time of match: 0:10:38

Chris Harris defeated Chance Beckett when Chance Beckett passed out in
a front facelock in 0:10:38.
Rating: ** 1/2

Chris Harris got a measure of revenge for Beckett's actions at Time's Up by choking out Chance Beckett with a front facelock.  If this victory is any indication, any rematch between AMW and The Future will not be easily settled, but it will be hotly contested.

Jay Briscoe vs. Marcos

Marcos misses with an elbow.
Marcos hits Jay Briscoe with a clothesline.
Marcos executes a kick to the midsection on Jay Briscoe.

The winner is Jay Briscoe. Time of match: 0:09:28

Jay Briscoe pinned Marcos with the J-Driller in 0:09:28.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Alex Wright interfered against Marcos.]

Jay Briscoe and Marcos have great chemistry together in the ring, and they were putting on a hell of a match until Alex Wright interfered.  For whatever reason, Wright chose to pass brass knuckles to Briscoe, allowing him to pick up the easy victory.  Then he rolled into the ring, and the two men celebrated together.  Is this the beginning of some kind of alliance between Jay Briscoe and Alex Wright?

(Matt Hardy is making his way toward the ring, when Edge steps into his path.)

Edge: I just wanted you to know.  I'm still watching you, Hardy.  And I'm very
much looking forward to beating you bloody next week in the cage!

Matt Hardy: A steel cage match requires a lot of things, Edge.  And, quite
frankly, I don't think you've got the Mattributes needed to come out on top.
Think about it.  Two men enter.  They battle.  And finally, when one of them
is hurt badly enough, the other manages to escape, leaving his opponent to
rot!

Edge: I'm very much looking forward to seeing you being carted off on a
stretcher, Hardy.

Matt Hardy: Is that so, Edge?  I rather suspect that it will be *you* who
suffers such an unfortunate Twist of Fate, not me.  Now get out of my way.
I've got a match.  Come on, Lita.

Lita: Okay Matt.

(Matt Hardy and Edge stare at each other for several seconds before Edge steps
aside.)

Edge: Good luck, Matt.  You're going to need it!

James Beard is back on the job: two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
ten.
The crowd is on its feet cheering for Doug Basham.

The winner is Doug Basham. Time of match: 0:03:09

Doug Basham defeated Matt Hardy by countout in 0:03:09.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Lita interfered against Doug Basham.]
[Edge interfered against Matt Hardy.]

Edge gives Matt Hardy a little taste of what awaits him at Caged Fury!  Hardy and Edge brawl to the back as a puzzled looking Doug Basham looks on.  The referee counts Hardy out, shrugs as Lita protests, and raises Basham's hand, giving Doug Basham one hell of a high profile victory.

An announcement:

Ladies and Gentlemen, just over a month ago, America's Most Wanted faced off
against The Future in a Steel Cage.  The Future was victorious, but AMW has
remained their top competition since then.  Therefore, in the interest of
putting on the best match possible, a rematch from Time's Up has been signed.

Chris Harris and James Storm - America's Most Wanted - will return to the steel
cage against Chance Beckett and Xavier - The Future - for a chance to regain
the titles they lost.  This time, however, there will be no escapes.  The only
way to win will be via pinfall or submission.  Anything and everything else
is 100% legal!

Xavier defeated James Storm by disqualification in 0:02:34.
Rating: **
(Xavier retained the Global Heavyweight Title.)
[Chris Harris interfered against Xavier.]

This was a set up!  Chris Harris and James Storm double team Xavier, comfortable in the knowledge that Chance Beckett can't help him.  The crowd is going wild as they lift him up... and... Death Sentence to Xavier!  Xavier is down and out!  Harris and Storm pick up his tag team title and point to it as the crowd roars their approval!  And we are out of time!  We'll see you next week at Caged Fury!

Card rating: ** 1/4

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: Edge & Chris Sabin vs. The Dark Princes

Caged Fury.  Two steel cage matches await next week as two brutal rivalries reach the boiling point.  When all else has been tried, only steel can solve problems this serious.  And that isn't all.

Xavier will team up with the unstoppable A-Train to take on the team of Doug Basham and Insane Dragon.  Fresh off of a major victory over Matt Hardy, can Doug Basham pick up another high profile win next week?

Speaking of A-Train, the big man will once again be teaming up with Julio Dinero to face a team hand picked by NDW management.  Management has been impressed by how well this duo has done, and now they are seeking to repeat this success with another team powerful enough to stop them.

Chris Sabin continues his quest for the Title at Caged Fury, where he will meet an opponent who has yet to be announced.  Who will it be?  And will Sabin be victorious?

And, of course, we have our steel cage matches.  Matt Hardy will take on Edge inside the infernal structure, and who can tell who will emerge victorious?  One thing is for certain - whoever it is will be in a great position to qualify for a title shot.

Last but certainly not least, America's Most Wanted will face The Future inside the cage for the Global Tag Team Titles.  And there will be no escapes.  Just brutality until one team can no longer continue.  Xavier is so confident that The Future will emerge victorious that he has volunteered to wrestle another match, while AMW seem to be far more focused.  Who will walk out of Caged Fury with the Tag Team Titles?

Tune in to find out!

I don't think I have been looking foward to a match as much as Hardy/Edge inside a cage.  I really was excited about Hero/Wright, but this one has even more hype.  Hardy and Edge are two of the most dominant wrestlers in the NDW and this has the makings of a classic.  Hopefully, TNM won't let us down!

I think I would like to see Billy and Chuck in some more tag action together.  However, Billy does have the ability to make for some interesting singles angles.

The Dark Princes seem to be the team to beat.  Will they add another member to the "Court", or will the whole group be falling apart shortly?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 05/05/04 at 03:17:11

I'm looking forward to it as well.  Hardy and Edge are my #1 heel and #1 face respectively, and at long last they're not only going to meet in a serious match with storyline behind it, it's going to be in a cage.  These two guys have got a hell of a lot of history together, even before NDW, so I think it's safe to say that they both know each other extremely well.  I'm predicting very good things for that match.

Billy and Chuck will be getting some more tag team action in time.  The rules have been full of directives for the tag team division lately, and this has ensured that they fell through the cracks more than I'd have liked.  I haven't forgotten that they're there, though.  At the moment I have a hell of a lot of depth to the Tag Team division.  Something like 9 active teams?  Let me think...  Edge & Sabin, AMW, Basham & Dragon, Billy & Chuck, Red & Funaki, The Future, The Dark Princes, A-Train and Dinero, Slash & New Jack... plus the new tandem of Alex Wright and Jay Briscoe and the team that's going to debut next week... That's a hell of a division right there.

With regards to The Dark Princes, they're presently ranked #3 in my tag team rankings.  So if The Future loses the titles to AMW, The Dark Princes are in a very good spot to qualify for a shot at them.  The future of The Dark Princes and of The Royal Court as a whole very much depends on the outcome of the Future/AMW match.  If AMW have the titles, 'Taker will want to go after them.  If they don't, 'Taker will be more interested in rebuilding The Court in his image.  Whatever happens, there's a good chance that Nana won't be too pleased with it.  But he's more than a little terrified by 'Taker, so...  We'll have to see.

so do the Dark Princes use the Spin Doctors song as their theme?  ;)

Poor Slash headfirst into the steps

Edge v Hardy !!! HUGE feud coming!

nice ending beatdown on Xavier!  AMW are truly AMW for THAT attack.

I second what Nick said.  Some good upcoming feud matches!
