NDW Week 30 - The Rematch

Critic of the DawnPosted on 05/03/04 at 18:53:01

Nothing like your main event malfunctioning to put you in a tough spot as to how to proceed.  I must've restarted that match 5 or 10 times in hopes of getting a legitimate result, but nothing was forthcoming.  Strange, because the random wrestler random submission booked finish has worked for me before.  The title didn't change hands or anything, so it was fairly easy to interpret the results creatively without getting too far from reality.  Anyway, this week features America's Most Wanted getting their rematch against the future in what turned out to be one of the best matches in NDW history...

(Prince Nana and The Undertaker are backstage)

Prince Nana: You stole the spotlight out there, sir.  You put us in danger of
losing because you wouldn't tag out to me.

The Undertaker: I fail to see your concern, Nana.  Our team was victorious, was
it not?  I knew I had things in hand, and I didn't know whether you could do
the same.  Why was my judgement flawed?

Prince Nana: Because The Royal Court is supposed to be a team, not a big guy
stomping on the will of his partners!

The Undertaker: I deliver you a victory where Lawler delivered deafeat after
defeat.  Why do you find my leadership objectionable?

Prince Nana: Because The King at least cared about his friends and partners!
You only care about yourself, and-

The Undertaker: Enough.  You don't know my motives or my plans.  Thus I find it
amusing that you pretend that you do.  Now leave me.  I must ponder our
strategy...

two are going to be my (CENSORED)!

Red: You don't know what you're talking about, or who you're talking to!  Just
last week I pinned Matt Hardy!  Compared to him, you're slow, fat...

Funaki: And you smell very very bad!

(A-Train glowers and advances on Funaki, but Julio Dineros holds him back.)

Julio Dinero: Easy there, big man!  There's plenty of time to squash these two

(Matt Hardy comes out to the ring for his match, but then Edge's music hits!
Edge makes his way to the ring and stares down Matt Hardy.)

Edge: I hear you've been looking for me, old friend.

Matt Hardy: Well well, if it isn't Edge!  Have you come here to try to
intimidate the Sensai of Mattitude, Edge?  Because it won't work!  I have the
kind of Mattributes you can only dream about!

Edge: Mattributes?  Is that what they're calling cowardice these days?

Matt Hardy: Cowardice!  Look who's talking!  I may have attacked a few people,
but at least I didn't run from confrontation!  Especially after you were the
one that started this whole mess.

Edge: With good reason.  You're a disgrace to the business, Hardy.

Matt Hardy: Is that so?  If you really believe that, then I suggest we solve
our differences.  Inside a steel cage, no less!  Unless, that is... you don't
have the Mattributes!

Edge: It'd be a pleasure to bust you open and make you eat your words, Hardy.
You're on!  In 2 weeks, I'll see you inside the cage!

James Storm via pinfall in 0:35:47.
Rating: *****
(The Future retained the Global Tag Team Titles.)

Outstanding match!  Quite possibly the match of the year, and easily the best Tag Team Match in NDW history.  America's Most Wanted took The Future to their limits, taking them down time after time and maintaining an advantage throughout the match.  As the match drew to a close, however, James Storm make a few mistakes on the outside that allowed Chance Beckett to use the terrain against him.  By the time Storm had been rolled back into the ring, he was too bruised and battered to kick out.

As we go off the air, we can see Chance Beckett and Xavier standing over their fallen adversaries and holding the belts high.  Who can defeat these two?  Who can stop Xavier?

Card rating: *** 1/2

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: America's Most Wanted vs. The Future

We are two weeks removed from Caged Fury, and the card is already beginning to take form.  However, be sure to tune in next week to see what other developments will take place as we build toward that show.

Speaking of next week, Chris Sabin will be facing the formidable A-Train in singles competition!  Funaki learned this week that upsetting the big, hairy (and probably smelly) giant is not a wise idea - will Chris Sabin take that to heart?  Or will the big man claim another victim?

Also next week, Julio Dinero will take on Funaki in a rematch from 2 weeks ago.  This time, Julio will be fresh and ready for a fight, and if this week's 6-Man Tag Team Match was any indication, this should be a pretty heated contest.

After picking up the victory and defending their tag team titles this week, Chance Beckett has challenged Chris Harris to a singles match.  This should be an extremely intense battle, as there is clearly no love lost between The Future and AMW.

Speaking of The Future and AMW, James Storm has challenged Xavier for the Global Heavyweight Title!  After fighting to a draw with Harris 2 weeks ago and barely pulling out the victory this week, Xavier feels he has something to prove, for he accepted the match without any hesitation at all.  Don't miss it!

Damn that Hardy... two weeks in a row on Mr Ass.

Xavier vs Storm next week!  Yes...

And Hardy vs Edge in the cage at Caged Fury!  nothing like a good buildup card!
