NDW Week 26 - Time's Up

Critic of the DawnPosted on 04/29/04 at 20:36:10

Big card.  Not only that, but an extremely good card.  Everything went quite well, with one or two notable exceptions which you'll learn about in time.  Until then, enjoy the show.  The Edge vs. Royal Court feud is boiling over, and there are quite a few other exciting matches on the card, including the debut of two new NDW stars.  And of course, we can't forget the main event inside the big cage.  This is good stuff.  Trust me.

Huge victory by Team Royal COurt!  This was a very even back and forth battle until the last few minutes, when The Royal Court eliminated both Global Heavyweight Champion Chris Hero and the thorn in their side Edge in quick succession.

What's this?  The Undertaker has returned to the ring!  The Royal Court bail to the outside as he helps Edge to his feet.  Low blow to Edge!?!  Underrtaker scoops him up for the Tombstone as Prince Nana passes a chair into the ring!  He's setting him up for a Tombstone onto the chair!  No!  Somebody has to stop this!

Wait...  It's Sabin!  Flying Cross Body Press from the top turnbuckle knocks down The Undertaker before he can do the deed!  Edge and Sabin run for it before they are overcome by a very angry Royal Court!  This is huge!  Chris Sabin has betrayed both sides in this war!  Where do his real loyalties lie?

(Edge heads through the halls towards the parking area, knowing that The Royal
Court has it in for him and that he's in no condition to fight them all off.
As he approaches his car, however... it's Mark Briscoe with a chair!  No!
Briscoe swings at Edge and misses, shattering the window of Edge's car!  Kick
to the gut... and Edgecution to Mark Briscoe on the concrete!  But what's this?
Edge seems to have landed badly on the very chair that Briscoe tried to use
on him - to say nothing of the broken glass.  Both of these men appear to be
hurt pretty badly, and within a few minutes paramedics have arrived to rush
them to the nearest hospital.)

Marcos and Jay Briscoe really stepped up in their match against each other tonight, delivering one of their best performances ever.  Marcos showed his heart in the match by battling back against the much larger Briscoe's strength, even managing to kick out of the devestating J-Driller.  Victory followed quickly with the Tilt-A-Whirl Inverted DDT.

(Jerry Lawler, Prince Nana, and The Undertaker are together backstage.)

Prince Nana: King, I hear that there are going to be contract evaluations soon.
Could this possibly hurt our plans at all?

Jerry Lawler: I don't know... I hope not.  Hopefully the guys in the back
aren't stupid enough to fire anyone from the most dominant stable in wrestling
today!

The Undertaker: Management is well aware of the talents we possess, Jerry.
They will take no action against us.  Therefore, we should see this not as a
danger to our alliance, but as an opportunity.  Others may not be as lucky as
we are.  This will leave many in need of protection.

Jerry Lawler: The kind of protection only a King can provide!  Ha!  I love it!

Leg Lariat by Doug Basham!  1-2-3!  Doug Basham and Insane Dragon are the top contenders for the Tag Team Titles!  What an upset by this newly formed pairing over the 2-time Tag Team Champions!  It looks like things may be about to get very interesting in the Tag Team division!

(Matt Hardy's music hits and he makes his way to the ring along with Lita.)

Matt Hardy: Some of you may not have noticed, but I still haven't gotten my
rematch against Chris Hero for the Global Heavyweight Title yet!  Now, while I
may suspect that this is because the bookers of this promotion are intimidated
by my massive Mattitude, I am prepared to display just how much I deserve a
shot at the title!  So... right here, right now, I will face down any tag team
in the back - and win!  Because I know I have the Mattributes required to be

[Lita interfered against Funaki.]

This was defiantely a foolish challenge by Matt Hardy, but to his credit he very nearly pulled out a victory.  Unfortunately for the Sensai of Mattitude, his best efforts just weren't quite enough, and after a lengthy match Funaki scored with a rana for a quick victory.

Jimmy Rave and Slash have been tearing up the independent circuit with their excellent feud, so when they offered to put on a match at NDW, management quickly took them up on it, granting them an Unsanctioned Match.  The two delivered big, putting on a classic in all respects, and therefore NDW is strongly considering giving each of them an extended contract.

(The Future won the Global Tag Team Titles.)

Here are your winners... AND NEW GLOBAL TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS... Xavier... Chance Beckett... THE FUTURE!

The Future took it to AMW in a short but bloody steel cage match.  Not a single man wasn't wearing the crimson mask by the end of this brutal brawl.  Eventually Chance Beckett was able to pick up a quick victory after choking out James Storm until he lost consciousness.  Worried for his partner's safety, Chris Harris checked on him rather than stopping Beckett, and thus AMW's second title reign ended.

Card rating: *** 1/2

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: Jimmy Rave vs. Slash

AMW are already demanding a rematch against The Future, claiming that Beckett used an illegal choke on Storm to gain the victory.  Unfortunately, NDW already has Number One Contenders for the Tag Team Titles.  However, in a gesture of respect for the veteran team, Doug Basham and Insane Dragon have agreed to put the top contendership on the line in a match next week.  James Storm will not be able to compete, so Chris Harris will have to find another partner somewhere.

Slash and Jimmy Rave have both impressed NDW officials a great deal, so next week they will meet each other again in a rematch from their classic tonight.

Additionally, we'll be seeing The Future in non-title competition next week, and Chris Hero will be defending his title once again.

Don't miss it.  Things are going to get very interesting.

Wow.. Lawler out first!!!  The Royal Court without their leader!  Alex pinning Taker is HUGE!  Nana on EDGE!  WOW!  Shocking win for the Court!

Taker has gone EVIL!  And can ANYONE trust Sabin?

Edge and Briscoe in the ambulance!

Bashams win!

Poor Matt.. letting his Mattitude get in the way of good sense.

RAVE AND SLASH!  what a debut match !!

and we have NEW NDW tag champs as the Future is NOW!  :)

putting the #1 contender spot up for grabs next week! wow that's big!  And interesting indeed!
Critic of the DawnPosted on 04/30/04 at 04:16:33

I was surprised and a little dissappointed to not see much Lawler/Edge interaction, but what with 'Taker's turn, you have to wonder how much of that was planned.  As for his logic in joining the Court... well, he is the Lord of Darkness, no?  ;D

Hard to say about Sabin.  Did he have an attack of conscience, or did he see a chance to position himself higher up the card?  It's difficult to say how noble his motives are.

I was surprised to see Insane Dragon and Doug Basham win the Number One Contenders match.  Dragon has jobbed to most of the locker room, and Basham is still very new in NDW.  But they managed to beat one of the most dominant and experienced teams on the roster.  Interesting...

You can see Matt Hardy becoming more frustrated.  He wants his rematch.  He can taste it.  But instead of getting it, he's had to watch Hero defend against Mark Briscoe and Alex Wright, two guys that Hardy feels like are way below his league.  And that frustration isn't doing good things for him thus far.

I was pleasantly surprised by Rave and Slash's appearance.  Both of them will fit in very well with NDW's style and roster - and that was a hell of a debut match.  I'm very impressed.

I'm pleased with The Future as Tag Team champs at long last.  They really deserve the belts.  The only problem is the fact that the titles have been hotshotted around quite a few times (AMW to Victors to Royal Court to AMW to The Future), so I'm hoping The Future has a nice and long reign to build back some of the titles' lost credibility.  If Xavier and Beckett keep dominating like they have, it shouldn't be hard for them.

Interesting tag teams and results.  Nice to see that you are using Chris Hero.  He's cute and a nice guy.  I met him a couple times at a few indie shows.  Hopefully he keeps the Global Title :)
