NDW Week 18 - You Want A War...

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/21/04 at 21:19:36

I'll be damned if things aren't coming together very nicely for my WarGames card in 2 weeks. I've got some great feuds going into it, and as you'll see, things are continuing to get interesting storyline wise. Good stuff.

*****

Funaki vs. Prince Nana

Chris Sabin hits Funaki with a Tombstone.
The crowd is cheering on Funaki.
Funaki is out cold.
Numerous fans are using Prince Nana for target practice.
Brian Hebner is back on the job: four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
The arena is exploding in a chorus of boos.

The winner is Prince Nana. Time of match: 0:06:29

Prince Nana defeated Funaki by countout in 0:06:29.
Rating: * 1/4
[Jerry Lawler and Chris Sabin interfered against Funaki.]

The Royal Court made a statement at the start of the evening's card. Nana overpowered Funaki, who fought back bravely. The numbers game caught up with him, however, and he eventually fell victim to a Tombstone from Chris Sabin on the outside and was counted out.

Edge pinned Chris Sabin after a spear in 0:02:12.
Rating: ***

Edge picked up a quick victory over his former partner Chris Sabin with a Spear out of nowhere. Had this match gone longer, it surely would have been a classic. With the pinfall gained, Edge laid into Sabin with a flurry of right hands and had to be forcibly restrained by NDW Referees.

Special Announcement:

Due to the escalating violence between Edge and The Royal Court, New Deal
Wrestling feels that they must step in to end this feud once and for all before
someone is permanantly injured. Therefore, 5 men representing each side will
meet inside a steel cage in two weeks time. The match is WarGames. The stakes
are high. One way or another, there WILL be a winner.

Therefore, it would be wise for each group to choose their team as soon as
possible so as to ensure that the strongest teams possible can be formed.

The Briscoe Brothers vs. Chris Hero & Marcos

Marcos nails Mark Briscoe with a facerake.
Marcos nails Mark Briscoe with an elbowsmash.
Marcos runs into the ropes.
Mark Briscoe hits Marcos with an elbow.
Mark Briscoe nails Marcos with a backdrop driver.
Mike Sparks counts: One, two, three.
Quite a few boos are audible.

The winners are The Briscoe Bros.. Time of match: 0:11:16

The Briscoe Bros. (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) defeated Chris Hero and Marcos
when M. Briscoe pinned Marcos after a backdrop driver in 0:11:16.
Rating: ***

The Briscoe Brothers pick up a victory here over Chris Hero and Marcos when Mark took out Marcos with a brutal backdrop driver. The Briscoes are a fantastic young team, and their teamwork allowed them to come back from an early burst of offense by Hero & Marcos.

(The Royal Court's entrance music hits and Sabin, Nana, and Lawler come out to
the ring. Sabin grabs a microphone.)

Chris Sabin: The Royal Court is here tonight to make an announcement, so pay
your respects, plebeians! Give it up for Prince Nana, bow down before the
allmighty Jerry "The King" Lawler, and... oh yeah... HAIL SABIN!

(The crowd boos loudly)

Chris Sabin: I'm gonna make this short and sweet. Team Royal Court is already
three fifths complete. And you're looking at the core of the team right now.
You've got Prince Nana, the powerhouse of the group. Jerry Lawler, a seasoned
veteran and unmatched ring general. And myself, Chris "HAIL" Sabin, the most
innovative and exciting talent out there. All we need are a couple other guys,
and there's no way Edge can stop us. So Edge... good luck finding a team, bro.
You're gonna need it if Funaki is the best you can come up with.

Wasted Youth vs. The Future

They lock up.
Chance Beckett enters the ring to make it two-on-one.
Chance Beckett executes an Asai moonsault on Insane Dragon.
The crowd is behind Chance Beckett all the way.
Xavier executes a 450 splash on Insane Dragon.
Tim White counts: One, two, three.
Xavier acknowledges the portion of the crowd which is cheering him.

The winners are Chance Beckett and Xavier. Time of match: 0:00:14

Chance Beckett and Xavier defeated Wasted Youth (Deranged and Insane Dragon)
when Xavier pinned I. Dragon after a 450 splash in 0:00:15.
Rating: *

Squash. Both literally and figuratively. Insane Dragon is flattened in less than 15 seconds by an Asai Moonsault and then a 450 Splash as Deranged looks on.

(Edge's music hits, and he makes his own way out to the ring.)

Edge: So, this is how things have got to be, is it? Fair enough. You've
earned the ass-kicking I'm going to give you, each and every one of you Royal
Court bastards. But I know I can't do this alone. I need a team to back me
up. That's why I've taken the liberty of inviting the most dominant team in NDW to
join me, and in doing so, to form the backbone of Team Edge. So Sabin... say
hello to America's Most Wanted!

(AMW's music hits, and Harris & Storm make their way to the ring and pose with
Edge as the crowd cheers this wise decision.)

"Big Sexy" Kevin Nash vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. "The Amazing" Red

Jerry Lawler takes Kevin Nash down with a series of jabs.
The crowd is wildly cheering Jerry Lawler with only a few scattered boos
audible.
Jerry Lawler executes a roundhouse right on Kevin Nash.
Jerry Lawler goes for a series of jabs, but Kevin Nash counters it with
a series of punches.

The crowd is wildly cheering Kevin Nash with only a few scattered boos audible.

The winner is Kevin Nash. Time of match: 0:13:37

Triangle Match:
Kevin Nash defeated Jerry Lawler and Red when Nash pinned Lawler with the
Jackknife Power Bomb in 0:13:37.
Rating: ** 1/2

Lawler and Nash beat the hell out of Red in this match, but Lawler made the mistake of breaking up an attempt by Nash to gain a pinfall victory. Big mistake. The big man effortlessly overpowered Lawler and sent him to dreamland with a stiff Jackknife Power Bomb.

The Victors vs. America's Most Wanted for the Global Tag Team Titles

Jamie Noble nails James Storm with a clothesline.
Sean O'Haire locks James Storm in a sleeperhold.

Sean O'Haire executes the Widowmaker on James Storm.
Sean O'Haire goes for the pin.
Sean O'Haire pulls the tights.
Earl Hebner counts: One, two, Chris Harris doesn't make it in time... three.
The decibel level in the building is unbelievable.

The Victors (Jamie Noble and Sean O'Haire) defeated
America's Most Wanted (James Storm and Chris Harris) when O'Haire pinned
James Storm with the Widowmaker in 0:10:49.
Rating: *** 1/4
(The Victors won the Global Tag Team Titles.)

Here are your winners... and NEW GLOBAL TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS... Jamie Noble, Sean O'Haire... THE VICTORS!

Noble and O'Haire were finally able to put an end to AMW's lengthy run with the titles, recapturing them after a brutal ten minute match. Though O'Haire picked up the victory with his Widowmaker, Noble was the clear MVP of the team, using his superior technical abilities to wear down both Harris and Storm until his more powerful partner could bring his strength to bear.

As we go off the air, we see Noble and O'Haire celebrating in the ring with Nidia. For the moment, at least, everything is right with this team.

Card rating: ** 1/2

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: The Victors vs. America's Most Wanted

Next week is going to be huge. Not only will both teams for the WarGames Match be announced, but it will feature not one but two title matches!

Edge will once again take on Chris "HAIL" Sabin, this time in a no count out match. With no count outs to keep the action within the ring, will both men come out of this match without injury?

Kevin Nash will meet the Undertaker once again as their feud begins to heat up. These two big men are truly dominating forces, and you've got to think that both Edge and Sabin are looking to recruit them to their teams at WarGames.

Due to their lengthy reign, America's Most Wanted have been granted an immediate rematch for the Global Tag Team Titles next week against The Victors. This special event will carry a 1 hour time limit to ensure that there is a decisive winner.

Finally, Matt Hardy returns to action next week, facing none other than Chris Hero. Hero holds several victories over Hardy, and has more than earned his shot at the Global Heavyweight Title. Matt Hardy agreed to the match on the condition that he be allowed to choose his own referee, and his choice, Prince Nana, does not bode well for Chris Hero.

Tune in next week for The Final Countdown to WarGames!

Sabin hitting the tombstone on the floor... that's gonna leave a mark.  ;)

Woo!  WarGames is coming to NDW!

so it's Nana, Sabin and Capt. Lawler vs Edge.. and AMW... so far!  This is gonna be the match that defines the future of NDW!

Poor Lawler shouldn'ta done that to Big Kev.

NEW CHAMPS!?!?  WOW! and return match next week!

Hardy choosing a member of the Royal Court as his ref?  oh boy!

TecmoNickPosted on 04/22/04 at 02:42:28

I like Noble and O' Haire, so I'm happy the won the titles.  I'm also glad Nidia stayed out of trouble for once.

I'm thinking Edge should ask Nash about joining him in War Games, since they both don't seem to care for Lawler...

What is going to come of the Royal Court talking with one of the Briscoe's last week?  I was assuming we'd see some answers tonight...
rgarrardPosted on 04/22/04 at 03:13:22

nothing teasing an angle one week, and then waiting a full week before following up on it.  :)  So old school!
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/22/04 at 03:43:58

Heh.  I thought this'd be a popular card.

Lawler was clearly distracted by the prospects of such a major matchup in the future.  He's enough of a veteran to know better than to make the mistake of ticking off a guy a full foot taller and nearly 100 pounds heavier than him normally.  To Nash, Lawler got in his face, then got what he deserved.  The real issue is still 'Taker, who was out recovering from Nash's assault this week.

As for Noble and O'Haire, yeah, they're pretty much my favorite tag team.  They sort of came out of nowhere to begin with, but they just work so well together that they've been fairly dominant.  AMW is probably the only team in NDW that has consistently outperformed them, and The Victors proved that they have what it takes to top AMW tonight.

As for Mark Briscoe and Nana...  I'm not in a rush to explain that.  WarGames is a much higher priority.  Still, don't forget about it.  You never know when it'll pop up again...

Briscoe/Nana sounds like my second half of year one angle, that I have called "the many loves of Dawn Marie".  Or Bundy and his ham sandwiches.  It's not on every card, but the undertones for it are always there.
