NDW Week 15 - Big Changes

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/18/04 at 18:53:48

As if things weren't exciting enough, this card really shakes up the Edge vs. Royal Court feud to a great deal.  Plus the mystery wrestler that comes in at the beginning of this card was totally unexpected to me.  At first, I was annoyed, but then I realized the storyline potential.  Should be interesting to see how it pans out...

Xavier pinned Lita after the Running Forearm Smash in 0:08:51.
Rating: **

It's Lita!  One of the most dominant woman wrestlers in the world today has come to NDW, eager to prove that she's every bit as capable as every one of our male stars by winning the Global Heavyweight Title!  Additionally, rumor has it that she has been involved with NDW Champion Matt Hardy romantically in the past, which could present some interesting complications because of her goals.

Xavier was unimpressed, however, and proceeded to give Lita a hell of a beating.  Lita started a surprising comeback with a clothesline, but Xavier pulled the referee in the way of her strike, then knocked her down with the Running Forearm Smash and pinned her for a fast 3!

"Mr. Showtime" Chance Beckett vs. Chris Hero

The winner is Chance Beckett. Time of match: 0:15:50

Chance Beckett pinned Chris Hero with the Chance Encounter in 0:15:50.
Rating: *** 1/4

Very solid match between Mr. Showtime and Chris Hero.  Hero had a lot of momentum this week coming off of his victory over NDW champ Matt Hardy, but Chance Beckett is always dangerous.  With a bit of help from crooked referee Danny Davis and a stiff-as-hell Double Arm DDT, Beckett was able to stun Hero long enough to hit his Chance Encounter for the win.

(Jamie Noble looks annoyed as the Camera moves into the locker room he shares
with his larger partner Sean O'Haire)

Jamie Noble: God dammit, Sean!  Where the hell were you last week?  Didn't you
see Edge hit me with the Edgecution, boy?  That's a hell of a move!  I needed
you, and you weren't there for me!

Sean O'Haire: Look, just relax.  Last week was a fluke.  I was caught by
surprise as much as you were.  Edge is a dangerous, dangerous man, but you and
I, we're a team.  The Victors.  And the rightful tag team champions.  We're
going to win our titles back.  It's just a matter of time.

(Jamie Noble nods thoughtfully)

Jamie Noble: I guess you're right, boy...

(O'Haire grins)

Sean O'Haire: Hey, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.

Red pinned Mark Briscoe after a backslide in 0:07:50.
Rating: **

Excellent fast paced strong style bout between high flier The Amazing Red and Mark Briscoe.  Red dominated this match, and eventually was able to get the pinfall with a backslide.

(AMW's music hits and they make their way to the ring)

Chris Harris: I'm going to make this quick so we can get back to what you came
here to see - damned good wrestling...

James Storm: For the past few weeks, the team of Chris Sabin and Edge has been
on one hell of a winning streak.  And we respect that.

Chris Harris: That's why we're here.  We want to find out which team in NDW is
the best.  That's why we've taken the liberty of requesting a match next week.

James Storm: That's right, Chris.  Next week it's going to be America's Most
Wanted against Chris Sabin and Edge, and the Global Tag Team Titles will be
on the line.

Chris Harris: So good luck guys.  We'll see you in the ring.

The Undertaker pinned Kevin Nash after a powerslam in 0:14:38.
Rating: 1/2*

Kevin Nash took on The Undertaker in a brutal brawl which saw each big man try to wear the other down with a variety of strikes and slame.  The Undertaker had the advantage in this exchange, much to the delight of the fans, but Nash put up a hell of a fight.  At one point, Big Sexy even kicked out of the Tombstone!  It's clear that this issue between Nash and the 'Taker is far from resolved!

(Insane Dragon walks up to Deranged, who is in his street clothes)

Insane Dragon: Well well well.  You didn't believe me, did you?  You had to
go out on your own, and you got your ass kicked just like I said.  Deranged,
you're nothing without me carrying you.  If we work together, we'll be fine.
But you're just not good enough to take on guys like Xavier!

(Deranged is clearly a bit annoyed)

Deranged: Dude, shut up!  You lost to Xavier too!  We're a great team, Dragon,
but your ego is getting out of control.

Insane Dragon: Excuse me, but if you didn't notice, I beat almost the entire
roster in one night.  What have you accomplished, exactly?  You haven't made an
impact, and now you're jealous of my success.

(Shaking his head in frustration, Deranged stalks off)

disqualification in 0:13:25.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Nidia interfered against James Storm.]

The Victors try to steal a victory from America's Most Wanted, but the referee saw Nidia with a chair and correctly guessed what was happening.  America's Most Wanted pick up yet another win.

The Royal Court (Jerry Lawler and Prince Nana) defeated Edge and Chris Sabin
when Nana pinned Edge with the Elevated DDT in 0:22:16.
Rating: *** 3/4

What a battle!  The Royal Court fought furiously against Edge and Sabin, using excellent teamwork to isolate Edge.  Following a Piledriver from Jerry Lawler and the Elevated DDT by Prince Nana, Edge was unable to kick out any longer.  Lawler and Nana stomped away at Edge until Sabin ran them off and helped his partner back to his feet.

Then, the unthinkable.

Chris Sabin takes the battered Edge down with the Future Shock!  Lawler and Nana rolled back into the ring and joined in as Sabin continued the savage beat down.  Finally, after nearly a minute, two men stood up for Edge, dashing down the the ring with steel chairs.  As The Royal Court bailed once more, Funaki and Deranged helped Edge to his feet.  Looks like Insane Dragon can't say Deranged hasn't made an impact yet any longer...

Marcos vs. Matt Hardy for the Global Heavyweight Title

Numerous fans are using Matt Hardy for target practice.
Matt Hardy goes for the pin.

Numerous fans are using Matt Hardy for target practice.

The winner is Matt Hardy. Time of match: 0:13:34

As was expected, Matt Hardy was easily able to come out on top in his match against Marcos.  Marcos fought bravely, but was just not a match for the champ.  With the match won, Hardy retrieved his title, then brained Marcos with the belt, leaving him bleeding on the mat.  As the show went off the air, he pointed to his blooded title, shouting that it was his, and that nobody could defeat him!

Card rating: ** 3/4

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: The Royal Court vs. Edge & Chris Sabin

Another shocking betrayal!  Chris Sabin turned on Edge, allying himself with The Royal Court!  Why would he do such a thing?  We're not sure, but there's a good chance we might find out next week when all three members of The Royal Court takes on Edge, Funaki, and Deranged.

Speaking of Edge and Sabin, a Tag Team Title match has already been signed pitting them against America's Most Wanted!  How can this work?

Additionally, Lita will once again be in action against an opponent to be named.  There's only one place to see it, and that's New Deal Wrestling.  Tune in next week and see what happens!

Since Sydal is gone, the Royal Court needed someone else to fill his spot....but Chris Sabin?  Nice twist.  How are Edge and Sabin going to co-exist next week?

As for the mystery wrestler, I was going to guess Jeff Hardy, but Lita will do.  Should be interesting to see what you do with her and Matt.

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/18/04 at 19:23:08

Long story short, it'll be interesting to say the least.

I'd have preferred Jeff Hardy as well, but Lita is almost as good.  She's got a lot of history with him as well, and since the rules stipulate a title shot, she's obviously going to be involved with his storyline to some degree.  So... yeah.  Like I said, Lita wouldn't have been my first choice, but there's a lot I can do with her, so I'll run with it.

Lita!  What a shock... I was thinking either Shane Helms or Shannon Moore or Jeff Hardy... but NOT Lita!

And Sabin turning on Edge to join the Royal Court... that's huge.  And Rearranged and Insane Dragon... what a feud they have... and now Deranged makes the SAVE with Funaki to help Edge...

And that champ Hardy just can't be stopped!  No way, no how!  :)
