NDW Week 14 - At Long Last

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/17/04 at 20:23:49

I was really looking forward to tonight's card. After months of build, The Collosal Connection are finally getting a shot at the Tag Team Titles. This is make or break for Nash and 'Taker, and I was very satisfied by how it turned out.

On the downside, this was, wrestling-wise, the weakest card I've had yet. Not a good thing, considering this is supposed to be a major card. Oh well. The show must go on.

*****

Edge & Chris "HAIL" Sabin vs. The Victors

They lock up.
Edge hits a reverse neckbreaker on Jamie Noble.
Edge executes a flying dropkick on Jamie Noble.

The crowd is on its feet cheering for Edge.
Edge goes for the pin.
Tim White counts: One, two, three.
The crowd is going into a frenzy.

The winners are Edge and Chris Sabin. Time of match: 0:00:31

Wow. That was fast. Edge makes short work of Noble, taking him down with the Edgecution in just over 30 seconds for the convincing victory. Edge and Chris Sabin make a hell of a team, and it's now looking quite likely that they'll get a shot at the Tag Team Titles sometime in the near future.

Edge and Chris Sabin defeated The Victors (Jamie Noble and Sean O'Haire) when
Edge pinned Noble with the Edgecution in 0:00:31.
Rating: *

(As Edge and Chris Sabin make their way to the back after a short match against
the former Tag Team champs, they walk right into a pair of chairshots! Nana
stands over them as they try to get to their feet again.)

Prince Nana: You think that this is over! You think that because you take away
our Knight and defeat us in a Tag Team match that you have won, do you? Well
my friends, the war has just begun. The Royal Court is far from dead and
buried - we have simply suffered a minor setback. Soon you will see what
happens when you defy nobility!

(Prince Nana spits on Sabin, then tosses the chair on the ground and stalks
off)

Prince Nana vs. "The Amazing" Red

Prince Nana goes for a forearm smash, but Red blocks it.

The crowd is behind Red all the way.

Andrew Thomas counts: One, two, three.
The crowd is behind Red all the way.

The winner is Red. Time of match: 0:02:48

Red pinned Prince Nana with the InfraRed in 0:02:48.
Rating: *** 1/4

After his arrogant display just moments before, Prince Nana clearly wasn't taking The Amazing Red seriously. Big mistake. Red is one of the most talented high fliers in the world today, and after a roundhouse kick he took out Nana with a quick InfraRed.

(Meanwhile, back in the lockerroom we see Matt Hardy shining his Global
Heavyweight Title belt. The door opens, and once again Chris Hero enters.)

Chris Hero: Ah. Just the man I was looking for. The man, if I'm not mistaken,
that I beat a couple weeks back via disqualification.

Matt Hardy: Who the hell do you think you are barging into my lockerroom? Do
you know who I am, Hero? I'm Matt Hardy, Version 1, the Sensei of Mattitude!
Now granted, you got lucky against me a couple weeks back... but if I recall
correctly, you met with an unfortunate Twist of Fate shortly thereafter.
Advantage? V-1!

Chris Hero: You know what? You're really starting to piss a lot of people off,
Hardy. More important, you're pissing me off! Now... if you think my winning
was really just a fluke... you'll meet me in the ring again tonight!

Matt Hardy: You're on, Hero! But don't come crying to me when you learn that
you just don't have the Mattributes you need to defeat me!

Chris Hero: I look forward to beating your Mattitude out of you...

The crowd is cheering on Funaki.

The winner is Funaki. Time of match: 0:01:01

Triangle Match:
Funaki defeated Chance Beckett and Jay Briscoe when Funaki defeated Beckett by
disqualification in 0:01:01.
Rating: **
[Mark Briscoe interfered against Funaki.]

Mark Briscoe came out to the ring in support of his brother, and before the match had even gotten underway, he laid out Funaki with a steel chair. While this gave Funaki the win, it allowed Mark, Jay, and Chance Beckett to kick the snot out of him until Red ran them off and helped his good friend to the back.

Xavier vs. Insane Dragon

Xavier throws Insane Dragon out of the ring.
Earl Hebner counts: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
The cheers for Xavier are drowning out the boos.

The winner is Xavier. Time of match: 0:08:32

Xavier defeated Insane Dragon by countout in 0:08:32.
Rating: * 1/4

Xavier laughed in the face of Insane Dragon's arrogance, coming back from an early rush of offense by the Dragon to quickly wear him down. After a beautiful 450 Splash, Xavier casually dumped Dragon to the outside. Insane Dragon was unable to return to the ring, so Xavier picked up yet another victory.

Matt Hardy vs. Chris Hero

They lock up.
Matt Hardy goes for a forearm to the back, but Chris Hero side-steps and
Matt Hardy only hits air.
Chris Hero nails Matt Hardy with a double underhook suplex.

The crowd is behind Chris Hero all the way.

The winner is Chris Hero. Time of match: 0:01:15

Chris Hero made Matt Hardy submit to the STF in 0:01:15.
Rating: **

Another quick victory by Chris Hero, this one decisive! Matt Hardy is trapped in an STF, and after a short interval he taps! Following the match, Hardy rolled out of the ring and headed toward the back, but Hero called out after him demanding a Title Shot. Hardy shook his head, claiming that because he was wrestling with a cold, he wasn't at his best, and thus Hero had no claim to a Title shot. The crowd booed wildly, and Hardy responded by saying that he is a fighting champion, and therefore he is willing to face any other challenger, so long as they have not yet had a shot at the title.

Mark Briscoe vs. Deranged

Mark Briscoe whips Deranged into the turnbuckle.
Mark Briscoe charges in with the Shining Wizard, but Deranged lifts his leg.
Deranged hits a hiptoss on Mark Briscoe.
Deranged hits a dropkick on Mark Briscoe.
Deranged acts like a lunatic.
The crowd is going into a frenzy.
Deranged executes the Blueprint on Mark Briscoe.
Nick Patrick counts: One, two, three.
The crowd is giving Deranged a standing ovation.

The winner is Deranged. Time of match: 0:14:26

Deranged pinned Mark Briscoe with the Blueprint in 0:14:26.
Rating: **
[Prince Nana interfered against Deranged.]

For some reason, Prince Nana took it upon himself to come to the ring and observe the match between Mark Briscoe and Deranged. Nana even involved himself in the match, trying to pass Briscoe a fire extinguisher and pulling down the top rope to dump Deranged to the outside. Deranged fought on bravely, however, surviving the brutal Cutthroat Suplex and picking up the victory with a quick Blueprint. Insane Dragon was nowhere to be seen, however, so Deranged soon found himself a victim of an Elevated DDT by Prince Nana on the concrete as Mark Briscoe looked on.

(As Matt Hardy heads to the back, he finds himself confronted by none other
than... Marcos, the former member of the Ring Crew.)

Marcos: Hey, Hardy, I heard what you said, and I just wanted to let you know
that you're a hell of a coward. My friend Chris Hero beat you fair and square
in the middle of the ring, and you won't give him the title shot he deserves!
Everyone here knows it's because you're afraid to lose!

(The audience breaks out in a "Coward! Coward!" chant.)

Matt Hardy: Now look here kiddo, I know you want to be a professional wrestler
one day, but unless you show guys like me the respect we deserve... you could
end up the victim of a very unfortunate Twist of Fate.

Marcos: You? Deserving respect? Respect is earned. You're a coward, and
quite frankly an arrogant bastard!

Matt Hardy: Oh really? You think you've got the Mattributes you need to take
me on, kiddo? I think I'm going to consider that a formal challenge, then!
You're on, ring boy! After you set up the ring next week, you've got a shot
at the big time, at the Global Heavyweight Title! I'll see you in the ring,
kiddo...

The Collosal Connection vs. America's Most Wanted for the Global Tag Team Titles

They lock up.

Kevin Nash complains about a fast count.
The crowd is going crazy.

The winners are America's Most Wanted. Time of match: 0:00:39

America's Most Wanted (James Storm and Chris Harris) defeated
The Collosal Connection (Kevin Nash and The Undertaker) when C. Harris pinned
Nash after a spear in 0:00:39.
Rating: *
(America's Most Wanted retained the Global Tag Team Titles.)

Nash chokes after finally getting a shot at the Tag Team Titles! Two quick spears by Chris Harris and he was unable to kick out in time, although he complained that Earl Hebner fast counted him. The Undertaker, for his part, looked totally disgusted. Nash continued pleading with the referee to restart the match, then turned... and walked right into The Undertaker! The Undertaker stared Nash down, and the two began a heated exchange of words. After a few moments, Nash turns to go... then wheels back around and takes down The Undertaker with a lariat! The Undertaker sits up... only to be met with a boot to the gut! Jackknife Power Bomb! Kevin Nash has left his partner lying on the canvas, and we are out of time!

Card rating: * 3/4

Match observations:

Match of the Evening: Red vs. Prince Nana

What a shock! After a quick defeat at the hands of AMW, Kevin Nash snapped and turned on his partner The Undertaker, knocking him out cold with the brutal Jackknife Power Bomb. You can bet that there's going to be some fallout from this heinous action next week!

Edge and Chris Sabin are on a roll against The Royal Court, and they will meet them again next week in a rematch of last week's excellent Tag Team encounter. Prince Nana has promised that The Royal Court will gain the ultimate victory in this war, so you have to think that they have something up their sleeves. Could Mark Briscoe be involved in any way?

Finally, Matt Hardy will defend his Global Heavyweight Title against former ring crew member Marcos. Though Marcos has little experience, the fans are solidly behind him, as his good friend Chris Hero has proven that Matt Hardy can be beaten fair and square in the middle of the ring!

Tune in next week for all this, plus the best wrestling action you'll find anywhere!

they finally split... at long last!

Nice to see you running Hardy too.  :)

I beginning to think I've hit upon something with the posting style I use for BCW.  I'm seeing a LOT of people using this format now.
Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/17/04 at 21:41:45

Heh.  I actually wasn't originally planning on pulling the trigger on their breakup so soon, but the enthusiasm for the angle on the boards here combined with AMW's squashing of Nash made it an easy choice.

I like to think that I've gotten into a pretty good groove with Hardy.  Suffice it to say that things stay interesting with him for a good while, yet.  You'll die when you see who the mystery opponent turned out to be.  Just too perfect.

As for the posting style, it's great, yes.  I've definately modeled my style on your own because it makes for an interesting read.  Not too much play by play, but enough to get a good grip of the matches, then a brief writeup of the match's impact.  I think the main difference between your style and my own is that you hype your cards after the first match kicks things off, while I hype my next card at the end to try to hook people into reading it, and I throw in a bit more UBB to try to make things easier to read, etc.

the mystery opponent is perfect for Hardy?

This oughta be good...  And just like your splitting of the Connection, I've taken advice from some of the posts here and used them in a couple of angles in the past as well.  As for the hype thing... it's the small nuances like that give us each our own distinguishable styles.  :)

I can't wait to see what you do for card #20!  :)  Should be a real crackerjack!
TecmoNickPosted on 04/18/04 at 18:19:15

It's too bad the matches couldn't last a little longer, but the card still had some good moments.  I'm interested to see who the mystery opponent is for Hardy, and the way you're building it up, I think I may know...
