NDW Week 13 - Lucky Thirteen

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/17/04 at 04:11:08

Things are really starting to heat up in the feud between Edge and The Royal Court.  Matt Sydal has left NDW, but the Court sent a message to Edge by taking out Sabin in a handicap match.  This storyline is practically writing itself, and I get the impression it's definately going to be a candidate for Feud of the Year.

Nash got a shot at AMW's Titles without 'Taker.  The tension between these two guys is building nicely, and AMW are continuing to dominate the Tag Team division.

As for Matt Hardy... his arrogance is being noticed by NDW management, and in this card they attempted to teach him a lesson by giving him a match against one of the winningest guys on the roster...

Edge and Chris Sabin defeated The Royal Court (Jerry Lawler and Prince Nana)
when Sabin defeated Nana by countout in 0:15:45.
Rating: ** 3/4

Edge and Chris Sabin looked like they were going to come out on top against The Royal Court, and after an extended beatdown, Lawler and Nana bailed from the ring shouting that Edge and Sabin would be sorry.  The two members of the Royal Court stalked back to the locker room and were counted out, leaving Edge and Chris Sabin to bask in the cheers of the crowd.

(Kevin Nash is backstage hanging out when The Undertaker walks by.  Nash gets
up and greets his partner.)

Kevin Nash: Hey, Undertaker.  Sorry about how things turned out last week.  It
was beyond my control.  You don't blame me for going for the titles without ya,
do you?

The Undertaker: It matters little, Kevin.

Kevin Nash: Good.  In that case, we need to qualify again if we...

The Undertaker: I have unfinished business to attend to first, Nash.  Jamie
Noble must be dealt with.  When I have finished my own affairs, we will
continue our association.

Kevin Nash: Yeah, your own business like getting shots at the Heavyweight Title
while I wait for you...

The Undertaker: You would have taken the chance if it was offered as well.
Just because it has not yet does not mean it never will.  Now... I must
prepare.  Jamie Noble will Rest... In... Peace...

(The Undertaker stalks off)

Kevin Nash: Damn... does he always have to have the last word?

Xavier pinned Deranged after a 450 splash in 0:04:55.
Rating: ** 3/4

A short match as Xavier demonstrated that, at least tonight, Deranged truly couldn't hang with him in the ring.  A 450 Splash put away Deranged and gave the duke to Xavier in under 5 minutes.  As Insane Dragon helped his partner to the back, he berated him and claimed that he had done him a favor by throwing in the towel the week before.

Red pinned M. Briscoe after the Red Star Press in 0:11:01.
Rating: ** 3/4

Red and Funaki defeat The Briscoe Brothers in a decent match.  The Briscoes will have to step up their game a great deal if they wish to earn the right to compete for the Tag Team Titles again.  Red and Funaki, on the other hand, may be on the road to a shot if they can pick up another few high profile victories.

Chris Hero pinned Insane Dragon with the Hero's Welcome in 0:11:06.
Rating: ***

Insane Dragon came up short against Chris Hero, then threw a temper tantrum of sorts, cursing out the referee, Chris Hero, and even his partner Deranged when he attempted to calm him down.  Apparently a man with Insane Dragon's ego doesn't take kindly to being shown up.

Rating: ** 1/4
[Chris Hero interfered against Sean O'Haire.]
[Jamie Noble interfered against Marcos.]

Jamie Noble tried to help his regular partner Sean O'Haire in this match, but Marcos caught the frying pan intended for his own skull and brained O'Haire with it, knocking him out cold and picking up the win, much to Noble's dismay.

Jamie Noble vs. "The Dead Man" The Undertaker

The Undertaker knocks Jamie Noble into the ringpost.
The crowd is on its feet cheering for The Undertaker.
The Undertaker throws Jamie Noble into the ringsteps.
Charles Robinson counts: 10.
The verdict: A DOUBLE COUNTOUT !

The Undertaker and Jamie Noble battled to a double countout in 0:06:45.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Sean O'Haire interfered against The Undertaker.]

Sean O'Haire recovered enough to return to the ring area and ambush The Undertaker on the outside of the ring.  The formidable team beat down The Undertaker on the outside, abandoning the match in the process.  Shortly after both competitors were counted out, Kevin Nash hit the ring with a chair and ran off The Victors.

(With all the other matches on the card out of the way, it is time for the main
event.  Matt Hardy will defend his title against a contender selected by NDW
management as worthy.  Now the time has come to reveal that contender.)

Introducing first...

From Nashville, TN
Weighing in at 225 pounds...
"The Tennessee Cowboy" James Storm

It's James Storm, one half of the Global Tag Team Champions and definately
one of the toughest wrestlers in NDW today!  Matt Hardy is going to have a hell
of a challenge tonight, especially since he had no time to prepare for this
match!

Matt Hardy pinned James Storm with the Twist Of Fate in 0:10:21.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Matt Hardy retained the Global Heavyweight Title.)

Bang!  Another victim of the Twist of Fate, and a new challenger defeated by Matt Hardy.  Matt Hardy has been extremely dominant as champion thus far, and brought a great deal of credibility to the Global Heavyweight Title.  While the match itself isn't likely to win any awards, it was solid enough.  However, James Storm showed that he lacked the experience of Matt Hardy in singles competition, and as such it may be some time before he gets another shot at the title.

Card rating: ** 1/2

Match observations:

Match of the evening: Chris Hero vs. Insane Dragon

Edge and Chris Sabin have shown themselves to be an extremely potent team thus far against The Royal Court, thus they have levelled a challenge against The Victors, who were the first Global Tag Team Champions in NDW's short history.  If they can defeat this team, they may be in line for a title shot.

Insane Dragon is incensed at his defeat, and has thus challenged Xavier, who defeated his partner last week in an attempt to prove that he's as good as he says he is.  This should be an interesting match, to say the least!

Finally, in our Main Event, America's Most Wanted will finally defend their Tag Team Titles against The Collosal Connection of Kevin Nash and The Undertaker.  The fans are rabid with desire to see this matchup, and hopefully this match will live up to expectations.

Tune in next week to see all of this and more!

I love it when things write themselves in TNM.  :)

This Lawler vs Edge thing is really keeping my interest as well as the whole.. Matt Hardy as your heelish champ.
