NDW Week 6 - Ladder to Glory

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/09/04 at 23:27:21

Probably the biggest problem I noted after setting up the tournament qualifiers was that it scheduled Jamie Noble to defend his Tag Team Titles with O'Haire as well as take on The Undertaker in a Qualifying Match for the Torunament in a single evening.  I explained this away as best I could by having O'Haire accept the Tag Team Title challenge, which should sew some potential seeds for dissent among The Victors if/when I decide to break them up.

It occurs to me that I seem to do that a lot without following through much.  At the same time, though, I realize that Tag Teams are made up of two people who ultimately want what's best for their careers and can make mistakes.  Since most of these teams are fairly new creations, they don't have the experience to act as a well oiled machine just yet.  Dunno.  All I know is that I'll never be short of potential feuds the way things are working.

Anyway, here's Week 6.

Rating: *** 1/4

Red wins!  In an upset victory, The Amazing Red managed to pin the much larger Prince Nana of the Royal Court with a high speed sunset flip.  Red had dominated much of the match with his superior speed, and eventually Nana was too worn down to kick out of the numerous pinfall attempts.  You can bet that Red will be training up for the tournament in two weeks, as he'll need every bit of skill he can get as the smallest man in the tournament.

The Victors (Jamie Noble and Sean O'Haire) when C. Harris pinned Noble
after the Death Sentence in 0:16:34.
Rating: **
(America's Most Wanted won the Global Tag Team Titles.)

AMW wins!  AMW wins!  New Deal Wrestling has new Tag Team Champions.  Noble and O'Haire were able to dominate the early part of the match, but Chris Harris and James Storm came back and isolated Noble from his larger partner until they could hit the Death Sentence for the three count.

Noble is reportedly pretty badly battered and bruised, and considering his Contendership match is against The Undertaker, his chances don't look good.  Sean O'Haire looked a little annoyed at Noble for taking the defeat, but helped him to the back nonetheless.

Another upset victory over The Royal Court!  Marcos proves once again that he has all the potential in the world by putting away seasoned veteran Jerry "The King" Lawler after a fairly long bout.  While it took quite some time for him to do it, the fact remains that Lawler fell after the third Tilt-a-Whirl Inverted DDT.

[Nidia interfered against The Undertaker.]

Nidia did her damndest to help her battered man to win a spot in the tournament, but it was simply not to be.  The Undertaker was simply too big and too powerful.  Even a chair to the head by Nidia wasn't enough, and Noble fell to the Tombstone in the middle of the ring.  Following the beating he had taken this evening, Noble had to be helped to the back by trainers and EMTs.

Rating: *** 1/4

Fan favorite Chris Sabin was forced to Kiss His X Goodbye by the technically skilled ringwork of Xavier, who picked up the victory after a very close and competitive match.  As he stood over his fallen opponent, Xavier made an X with his arms and shouted to the crowd that he was going to win the Battle Royal next week, and that there was nothing any of them could do about it!

No-Countout-No-DQ-Ladder Match:
Edge defeated Matt Sydal in 0:08:26.
Rating: ***
[Prince Nana and Daizee Haze interfered against Edge.]

Despite the heavy interference of The Royal Court, Edge was able to pull out the victory by retrieving the trophy that was suspended above the ring.  Matt Sydal hit him with every move in his arsenal, including two Dragon Ranas, but Edge just wouldn't stay down for long enough for Sydal to recover the trophy.

After Edge's victory, The Royal Court hit the ring and began to beat on him.  Chris Sabin dashed out for the save, only to be similarly overcome.  The Amazing Red then emerged to even the sides, only to fall victim to a Twist of Fate as Matt Hardy ran in.  The Undertaker followed, and the rest of the locker room gradually began to spill out to the ring area as a brawl broke out and the show went off the air.

Card rating: ** 3/4

There should be a few opportunities for you to follow through on your potential tag team splits later in the rules :)

And I really REALLY hope that Sean O'Haire wins the final spot in the battle royal as that would really make Noble mad since he was on the receiving end of not one but two beatings on this card.

Critic_of_the_DawnPosted on 04/10/04 at 04:12:11

Excellent.  I've got a line of teams about a mile long waiting in the line for divorce papers.

One of these days, I'm going to have to try making tag team partners get along.  What a novel concept!

As for O'Haire winning the Battle Royal... That would be interesting, yes.  But I'm not telling what happens.  You'll have to wait for Week 7 - to see what happens.  ;D

Got any picks for the ultimate winner of the tournament yet?

I really think an Edge/Lawler final is possible...
