ECW Hardcore TV
Date: June 27, 2006
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Interview:
[Paul Heyman is in the ring holding a sashel in one hand and a microphone in the other.]

Paul Heyman: It is my honor to introduce to you the new ECW World Champion, Kurt Angle!

[Kurt Angle makes his way down to the ring and receives mostly cheers from the audience.]

Paul Heyman: I am so proud to say that ECW is being represented by the greatest wrestler our generation has ever seen in Kurt Angle. As you can see, I am holding a sashel that contains the newly designed ECW World Championship belt.  I want to award this to you Mr. Angle as you deserve nothing but the best as World Champion.

[Paul Heyman takes the new championship belt out of the sashel to reveal a belt similar to the one Shane Douglas wore in his last title reign. Paul Heyman hands it over to Kurt Angle, who shakes his hand.]

Paul Heyman: There you go, champ. Now, there is another reason I wanted you out here and that is because Rob Van Dam, who put in just as good of an effort as you did, wanted to congratulate you on your victory last night.

[Rob Van Dam walks down to the ring. Paul Heyman hands him the microphone. The crowd chants "RVD" repeatedly before Rob Van Dam speaks.]

Rob Van Dam: Congratulations, Kurt. If I told you that I wasn't a bit jealous, I'd be lying. But you earned that title and that was the whole premise of that match last week. In ECW, we compete for titles, we aren't given them. Last week, we almost tore the roof off this arena, Kurt. We showed everyone that ECW is what professional wrestling is all about. We proved to everyone that unfunny skits, long, drawn out interviews and matches between untalented bodybuilders isn't going to be what the new ECW is all about.

[The crowd cheers.]

Rob Van Dam: However, don't confuse my respect for you as showing that I am content with not being the ECW World Champion. Now that you're the champion, you are going to have a lot of people coming after you looking for a title shot. The way I see it, the only person who deserves the first crack at your title is "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam.

[Kurt Angle motions for another microphone and receives it.]

Kurt Angle: Thank you for the kind words, RVD. It truly was a privilege to be in the same ring as you last week. It was a hard fought match but in the end, I beat you in your element, the Ladder Match to become the ECW World Champion. Clearly, the better man won last week.

[Those comments receive a mixed reaction from the ECW crowd.]

Rob Van Dam: I say that the luckier man won that night, not necessarily the better man.

[Kurt Angle shrugs his shoulders.]

Kurt Angle: Whatever you say, RVD. Just know that the result of our match can be seen right here on my shoulder with me wearing the ECW World Title there. As far as your challenge, I accept it. I'm looking forward to defeating you again.

Rob Van Dam: I can respect that, Kurt. Thanks for being a man and accepting my challenge. Before I leave, I want to shake your hand to congratulate you once again on becoming the ECW World Champion.

[Rob Van Dam extends his hand to Kurt Angle. The handshake is accepted by Kurt Angle and he raises Rob Van Dam's arm. What a show of sportsmanship by these two. This sincerity lasted only a few moments before Kurt Angle surprised Rob Van Dam with a short arm lariat. The crowd immediately booed Kurt Angle for turning his back on Rob Van Dam and the fans. Kurt Angle followed up the surprise lariat by hitting the Angle Slam. Kurt Angle left the ring and grabbed a chair and folded it before re-entering the ring. As Rob Van Dam staggered back up, he was met with a chairshot to the face. Kurt Angle then picked Rob Van Dam up and hit the Angle Slam onto the chair. The segment ended with Kurt Angle standing over Rob Van Dam, holding the ECW World Title in the air.]

Sabu and Teddy Hart battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: **** 1/4

This match ended in a double countout because of Teddy Hart deciding to take a big risk on the outside of the ring. In the ring, Teddy Hart had just hit the Hart Attack on Sabu. Instead of going for the pin, Teddy Hart threw Sabu over the top rope to the floor. Teddy Hart set a table up and put Sabu on it. Teddy Hart went back into the ring and attempted a Skytwister Press on Sabu but he moved out of the way and Teddy Hart went through the table! While Sabu struggled to get back into the ring, the referee had already been counting and ruled the match a double countout. The ECW fans were disappointed that there was no true winner but Teddy Hart continues to make a good impression in his short time with the promotion so far.

Interview:
"The Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore has another hype video for his debut. This time, Shannon Moore tells the audience to simply "fight the power." Shannon Moore is coming to ECW very soon.

[In a dark room, we see a light bulb, flickering on and off, swinging back and forth. When the light flickers on, we see glimpses of Vampiro sitting against a wall. Vampiro looks very sullen.]

Vampiro: So this is what they call Extreme Championship Wrestling?

[Vampiro laughs menacingly.]

Vampiro: I don't believe that they've seen what extreme can be. Your fears are about to become your reality. Get ready to see what extreme is all about.

[Vampiro smashes the light bulb against the wall, breaking it into many pieces as the room goes dark.]

Tajiri pinned Al Snow after a German suplex in 0:00:31.
Rating: *

Before the match began, Kelly Kelly made her ECW debut in this match by jumping on the ring apron pointing towards Al Snow. She gets on the ring apron and starts dancing provocatively. To be expected, Al Snow is distracted by the sight but is also confused as to what she is doing here. Considering that Al Snow is a veteran, he shouldn't have been so easily distracted, especially when the bell had already been rung. Tajiri took advantage of the distraction by surprising Al Snow with a spinning heel kick. Tajiri followed with a German Suplex to get the three count under thirty seconds. Kelly Kelly jumped off the ring apron looking disappointed about costing Al Snow the match. Could Al Snow be the unlikely wrestler that Kelly Kelly has a crush on?

Interview:
[Paul Heyman is standing by backstage.]

Paul Heyman: Ladies and gentlemen, earlier tonight you all saw what our new ECW World Champion, Kurt Angle, did to Rob Van Dam. Apparently, not only is Kurt Angle "The Wrestling Machine" but he is also a coward. While I respect what Kurt Angle brings to ECW with his wrestling ability, I will not tolerate him disrespecting Rob Van Dam the way he did earlier. As you all know, next Tuesday is July 4th, the anniversary of the birth of our nation. ECW will be celebrating Independence Day with a two hour special broadcast that will be headlined with a rematch from last week. The ECW World Champion Kurt Angle will defend his title against "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam!

[The scene switches to a Pulp Fiction like montage starting with The Impact Players.]

Lance Storm: Tonight, the ECW World Tag Team Titles are being decided in a Tag Team Battle Royal featuring the best tag teams ECW can bring together. It seems with The Eliminators reforming two weeks ago, all of the attention from the critics and fans has been given to them. That's too bad because while it is admirable that Perry Saturn has been able to return from his neck injury, it means little to the big picture of the tag team division. Justin Credible and myself are still the flag bearers of what tag team wrestling is all about. We aren't called The Impact Players because the name sells merchandise. We are the best tag team, not just in ECW, but the best in all of professional wrestling.

Justin Credible: Now that's not just the coolest, that's not just the best...

Lance Storm: That's Calgary, Alberta, Canada...

Justin Credible: And that's Justin Credible!

[The scene switches to Melina, Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury.]

Melina: You know what? How dare two has beens like Perry Saturn and John Kronus ruin our world premiere on ECW Hardcore TV two weeks ago! We are the present and future of ECW.

Johnny Nitro: You're right babe. We are the A-Listers and we are where it is happening in professional wrestling. We're too good for ECW. The Eliminators are pretty tough when your backs are turned to them. How about they try fighting us face to face?

Joey Mercury: Have you seen their faces, Johnny. Ick.

[They all laugh.]

Melina: They are pretty icky, aren't they?

Joey Mercury: They are the ugliest tag team in ECW. MNM, on the other hand, are not only the most attractive tag team in ECW, but we are the best. Two weeks ago, Eliminators, you beat us when we weren't expecting you. Tonight, in the tag team battle royal, we are going to be looking for you and when we find you, we're going to "eliminate" the Eliminators and become the ECW World Tag Team Champions!

[The scene switches to The Eliminators.]

Perry Saturn: It seems like everybody just can't stop talking about The Eliminators. We beat another next best thing in tag team wrestling in MNM a few weeks ago. If ECW puts another next best thing in tag team wrestling in front of us, we'll beat them too. Why? It's because The Eliminators are the best, period. John Kronus and myself, we may not have been a tag team in many years but it's as if we never stopped being one. We're looking forward to the tag team battle royal and eliminating each and every one of you supposedly great tag teams in ECW.

[John Kronus starts laughing for no reason.]

Perry Saturn: And he still has a few screws loose.

[The scene switches to Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman. The Sandman is drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette. When The Sandman notices the camera, he spits beer at the camera and laughs.]

The Sandman: The more things change, the more they stay the same, huh Dreamer?

Tommy Dreamer: And you know what? I'd have it no other way. I don't know if there is any other wrestlers like The Sandman and myself. We live, eat, and breathe ECW. You say ECW, and what comes to mind? I'll tell you. Barbed wire, baseball bats, chairs, singapore canes, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman. Tonight, there would be no bigger honor than to win the ECW World Tag Team Titles with my good friend The Sandman. Looking at how much he's been smoking and drinking, I'd have to say I wouldn't want to be facing him in tonight's battle royal.

[The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer laugh as they walk away.]

18-Man Tag Team Battle Royal for the vacant ECW World Tag Team Titles:
Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin won a 9-team Battle Royal:
x S. Benjamin threw out A. Rotten (partner: Balls Mahoney) in 0:02:28
x S. Richards threw out Swinger (partner: Simon Diamond) after
a vertical suplex in 0:11:06
x Kronus threw out Mercury (partner: Johnny Nitro) after a savate kick
in 0:11:23
x Saturn threw out Credible (partner: Lance Storm) in 0:14:20
x Dreamer threw out Mamaluke (partner: Little Guido) in 0:14:29
x S. Benjamin threw out Dreamer (partner: The Sandman) after
a kick to the face in 0:19:44
x S. Benjamin threw out Meanie (partner: Stevie Richards) in 0:24:00
x S. Benjamin threw out Kronus (partner: Perry Saturn) after
a clothesline in 0:25:32
Rating: ** 3/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team won the ECW World Tag Team Titles.)
[Melina interfered against Perry Saturn.]

This battle royal featured the best tag teams ECW could bring together with all having one goal: to win and become the ECW World Tag Team Champions. This was a very competitive battle royal as all the teams were focused to try to outlast the other teams to be the last team standing in the ring when the battle royal was all said and done. As the battle royal went on, it became apparent that The World's Greatest Tag Team and The Eliminators were the teams to beat. That's exactly how the battle royal would play out as these were the last two teams standing. The ECW crowd were clearly supporting The Eliminators comeback and what a way to cap it all off with winning the ECW World Tag Team Titles? Unfortunately, that would not happen tonight and the reason why could be blamed solely none other than the ECW World Champion Kurt Angle. As The Eliminators were about to hit Shelton Benjamin with Total Elimination, Kurt Angle hit the ring and clocked Perry Saturn with the championship belt. John Kronus walked right into another belt shot to the face. Shelton Benjamin picked John Kronus up and clotheslined him out of the ring to get the last elimination of the battle royal. The World's Greatest Tag Team has become the ECW World Tag Team Champions thanks to their former protege Kurt Angle!

After the match, Kurt Angle picked Perry Saturn up and hit the Angle Slam before throwing him out of the ring. Kurt Angle got on the microphone and told the ECW crowd that it is no coincidence that ECW Originals like Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, and The Eliminators are not the ones wearing ECW gold. It is former WWE superstars like The World's Greatest Tag Team and himself that control all the titles. Kurt Angle reminds the crowd that Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and himself formed one of the most dominant groups in all of professional wrestling known as Team Angle. History shall repeat itself, Kurt Angle vows, as Team Angle is officially back! But this time, it won't be limited to just three people. Next week, Team Angle gets extreme and there is nothing that Rob Van Dam or any other original can do to stop it!

Nice card.  If ECW was brought back in this light and Angle/WGTT had the tag titles and World titles the ECW faithful would be mighty pissed off.  Great heat and I like the way the fed is heading.
The TNM Members ChampPosted on 07/09/07 at 07:24:10

I have a feeling, though, that in hindsight, the ECW faithful would've much preferred a World title reign by Kurt Angle as opposed to The Big Show and Bobby Lashley. :-)

As for Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas being the tag team champions, I don't think the ECW fans would've minded that either. I doubt the crowd would be chanting "change the channel towards them as opposed to Big Show and Batista.  ;D
suicidalbynaturePosted on 07/09/07 at 21:35:07

Yeah, as long as the wrestlers in question could actually, you know, wrestle a good match then the ECW fans would give props when due. While the ECW faithful cheered the hell out of the workrate machines~! known as 911, The Sha, and countless other stiffs because they could get hardcore they also gave mad props to the actual wrestlers such as Benoit (who?), Malenko, Psicosis and the like.

I don't know why but Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin remind of Doug Furnas and Phil Laffon in terms of tag team goodness. I'll stop rambling now.

Great card. Sabu v. Teddy Hart would surely be one for the ages in terms of craziness. I can cpiture Hart doing random shooting star presses and Sabu putting himself through tables in an attempt to one up one another. Keep up the good work, this really captures the old ECW vibe.
rebelins313Posted on 07/09/07 at 22:17:46

I agree that the ECW faithful loved the wrestling goodness but there would be a big portion I think who would not like Angle in that role because of the thought of WWE wrestlers being more prolific than ECW.  That's what heels are for though, but I think in the end the ECW originals would garner the most face heat.

Nonetheless the card was very good and I enjoyed it.  :)
