ECW One Night Stand
Date: June 11, 2006
Location: New York City, NY

Al Snow pinned Mikey Whipwreck with the Snow Plow in 0:12:42.
Rating: *** 1/4

These two definitely had a lot of pressure opening up the anticipated ECW One
Night Stand II pay per view tonight. The pressure didn't seem to phase either
competitor as both had much success in ECW previously and were used to the
atmosphere of the promotion. Al Snow and Mikey Whipwreck put on an exciting and
fast paced opener to start the show. Al Snow, who was wrestling his first match
in a few years, shook off any rust he had from being away from the squared
circle and got the victory after hitting his finisher, the Snow Plow.

Danny Doring and Roadkill defeated C.W. Anderson and Johnny Swinger when
Roadkill pinned Anderson with the Amish Bomb in 0:03:37.
Johnny Swinger tore his left meniscus. He will be out for approximately 6 cards.
Rating: ** 3/4

Of note, the team of Danny Doring and The Amish Roadkill were the last ECW
World Tag Team Champions before the promotion folded in early 2001. If this
match was any indication, Danny Doring and Roadkill are ready to reclaim their
world tag team championship belts because they controlled this match from the
beginning. It appeared that Johnny Swinger injured his left meniscus during the
match and it limited his effectiveness as a tag team partner to C.W. Anderson.
This match basically turned into a 2 on 1 handicap match because of Swinger's
injury. Danny Doring and Roadkill didn't let this match go on too long and they
got the victory after Roadkill hit the Amish Bomb and got the pin on C.W.
Anderson.

4 Way Dance:
Super Crazy won a 4 Way Dance:
x Crazy defeated Kash after the Moonsault in 0:13:06
x Tajiri defeated L. Guido after the Kick Of Death in 0:14:21
x Crazy defeated Tajiri after a springboard moonsault in 0:16:15
Rating: **** 1/4

This match was billed as an International Showcase of four of the best
cruiserweight style wrestlers in the world. In addition, the ECW fans had the
chance to see a Four Way Dance style of match that ECW made famous back in the
1990's. It was fitting that this match came down to Super Crazy and Tajiri, as
these two were intense rivals during their ECW stints. These two took the match
to the outside of the ring and through the crowd for the first time on
tonight's show. One memorable spot happened when Tajiri, who had balanced
himself on the barricade, set Super Crazy up for the Kick of Death. When Tajiri
went for the move, Super Crazy hit an enzuigui and knocked Tajiri out cold!
Super Crazy rolled Tajiri back into the ring and hit a springboard moonsault
for the victory.

Masato Tanaka pinned Sabu with the Roaring Elbow in 0:11:50.
Rating: *** 1/2

Last year, Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka put on a match that many thought was
the match of the night at the first ECW One Night Stand. This year, Masato
Tanaka was announced to wrestle another match at this ECW pay per view,
however, his opponent was unannounced and many thought it would be Mike Awesome
who would be his opponent. Instead, the ECW fans were surprised and delighted
when the lights turned off and turned back on to reveal that it was Sabu that
was the mystery opponent for Masato Tanaka.

This match involved more weapons than the previous matches tonight on the pay
per view. This was a back and forth match that had a momentum shift in the
favor of Masato Tanaka when Sabu attempted a Triple Jump Moonsault onto a table
on the outside of the ring where Masato Tanaka was laying on. When Sabu
attempted the move, Tanaka managed to move out of the way at the last second
and Sabu went through the table. Masato Tanaka brought Sabu back into the ring
and executed the Roaring Elbow to get the three count. The ECW fans gave Sabu
and Masato Tanaka a standing ovation for their effort tonight in what was truly
the first throwback to the hardcore, ECW style match of the night.

The bWo (The Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards) defeated The Impact Players
(Justin Credible and Lance Storm) when Meanie pinned L. Storm with the
Meaniesault in 0:14:20.
Rating: *** 1/4

Lance Storm and Justin Credible reunited last year at the first ECW One Night
Stand pay per view when Justin Credible surprised Chris Jericho with a
singapore cane shot and later, when they attacked Tommy Dreamer in the main
event. Much to the fan's delight, the BWO were back this year and they promised
to take over the pay per view and spoil the wrestling return of one of ECW's
best tag teams. Of note, instead of Dawn Marie leading The Impact Players to
the ring, it was Francine who has taken over their managerial duties it
appeared. The ECW crowd was surprised when The Eliminators, Perry Saturn and
John Kronus
, made their return by entering the ring and attacking the Impact
Players. Kronus superkicked Justin Credible out of the ring and then The
Eliminators hit the Total Elimination on Lance Storm! The Blue Meanie followed
by going up to the top rope and hitting Lance Storm with the Meaniesault to get
the three count!

Dean Malenko pinned Chris Benoit after a sunset flip in 0:17:33.
Rating: ***

Dean Malenko had been retired for a few years, but decided to come out of
retirement to wrestle his good friend Chris Benoit in a tribute match to
their friend Eddie Guerrero. These two were well deserving in paying tribute
to their friend Eddie Guerrero, as both had some classic matches with him
during their careers. While Dean Malenko may have been retired for a few
years, he didn't look as if he had been gone from the wrestling ring for
long. This match was definitely different from the rest of the matches
tonight as it was purely a technical wrestling style that was employed by
both wrestlers. Dean Malenko managed to get the surprise victory over Chris
Benoit after countering a powerbomb attempt with a sunset flip for the three
count.

After the match, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko shook hands and hugged each
other to "EDDIE" chants from the fans. The wrestlers from backstage all
came out to the ring and paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero by observing a
moment of silence for him.

The Sandman pinned John Bradshaw Layfield with the DDT in 0:06:13.
Rating: * 3/4

This match was a year in the making it seemed. Leading up to last year's ECW
One Night Stand pay per view, JBL was one of the most outspoken opponents of
Extreme Championship Wrestling. Paul Heyman let his opinion of JBL be known
in his memorable shoot promo against the WWE invaders last year. During the
brawl between ECW and RAW and Smackdown! last year, JBL roughed The Blue
Meanie which caught the attention of The Sandman, who vowed that if JBL ever
were to speak out against ECW again, he would take him to the extreme.

Much of the events leading up to this pay per view happened on the RAW brand.
JBL was an invited guest of Vince McMahon on an episode of Monday Night RAW,
who encouraged JBL to speak his opinion of ECW. From out of the crowd, The
Sandman entered the ring and hit not only JBL with a singapore cane shot, but
also the chairman of the WWE, Vince McMahon! Vince McMahon ordered this match
for this pay per view and it was not exactly what JBL wanted but Vince McMahon
said he would fire him if he didn't accept the match and get revenge against
The Sandman.

The Sandman, much like last year, made his familiar entrance and also once
again had "Enter Sandman" by Metallica as his theme music. While JBL didn't
seem intimidated by The Sandman, you have to believe that the home field
advantage worried him as he was not comfortable in the ECW hostile
environment. While JBL is a good brawler, he was completely out of this match
from the start it seemed. The Sandman hit JBL with all the weapons he could
find by the ring and even some from the fans that attended the show at ringside.
The Sandman put JBL away after he hit a DDT on JBL onto a sideways trash can
for the three count.

After the match, The Sandman took JBL's United States Heavyweight Title, which
was not on the line and laid it on top of JBL, who was out cold from that DDT.
The Sandman proceeded to pour beer on JBL and the United States Heavyweight
Title. You have to believe Vince McMahon will not be happy with the result of
this match. However, considering he is selling the Smackdown! brand, it probably
won't be a concern for him.

Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk defeated Edge and Mick Foley when T. Funk made Edge
submit to the Spinning Toe Hold in 0:29:42.
Rating: ****

A few weeks ago, on an episode of Monday Night RAW, Mick Foley shocked everyone
when he turned his back on Tommy Dreamer and aligned himself with Edge. Even
more shocking was that he helped Edge beatdown Terry Funk, someone he supposedly
looked up to as a mentor in the sport of professional wrestling. While Edge
likes to think of himself as the new Hardcore Icon in professional wrestling, he
got a dose of reality when he stepped into an ECW ring. These four wrestlers went
all over the arena in this match and it made for one intense, fun brawl to watch.
The match also featured a surprise ending that showed that Terry Funk still had
one good match left in him in his career. With Mick Foley brawling with Tommy
Dreamer on the outside of the ring, he didn't notice that Terry Funk had applied
the Spinning Toe Hold on Edge! Lita tried to break the hold up, but Beulah
entered the ring and the two proceeded to get into a brawl of their own, and
basically rolled around in the ring. With Edge away from the ropes in the center
of the ring, he had to submit! Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk are victorious!

After the match, Terry Funk thanked Tommy Dreamer, Paul Heyman, and all the fans
for the support they gave to them during the match. Terry Funk promises that this
was indeed his last match but it might not be the last time you see him at an
ECW event.

Match for the vacant ECW World Heavyweight Title:
Rob Van Dam pinned John Cena with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:26:41.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Rob Van Dam won the ECW World Heavyweight Title.)
(Rob Van Dam won the WWE Title.)

Before the match, John Cena gave an intense anti-ECW promo that had the crowd
near ready to riot. Leading up to this match, which was a result of Rob Van
Dam using his Money in the Bank that he won at WrestleMania XXII, John Cena
showed no respect for Rob Van Dam, ECW or its fans. John Cena said the only
thing worse than a WWE fan was an ECW fan. John Cena even said that Rob Van
Dam didn't have it in him to become the WWE Champion because everytime he
had an opportunity to wrestle for the championship he lost. While John Cena
is a three time WWE Champion (John Cena won the title back from Triple H at
WWE Backlash), Rob Van Dam has no WWE Championships, so John Cena does have
that bragging right over him. But what John Cena failed to recognize was that
this match was not being defended at an WWE event. This was being held at an
ECW event with the home field advantage going to Rob Van Dam.

While John Cena may be one of the most unpopular wrestlers in the sport today,
he is definitely a big match wrestler. If Rob Van Dam was to become the WWE
Champion, he would have to earn it tonight against John Cena. These two put
on one of the best matches of 2006 and even the jaded ECW fans had to give
credit where credit was due to John Cena for the effort he put into the match
tonight. There was just too much momentum and support for John Cena to overcome
tonight at the pay per view. John Cena went for the F-U, but Rob Van Dam was
able to slide out of the move and hit a Samoan Drop on him. Rob Van Dam followed
with a Rolling Thunder. Rob Van Dam went for the top turnbuckle and executed the
Five Star Frog Splash and was able to get the three count! Rob Van Dam is the
new WWE Champion!

After the match, the referee awards Rob Van Dam the WWE Championship. Rob Van
Dam looks at the championship with a smile on his face and asks for the
microphone. Rob Van Dam says that many wrestlers strive to become the WWE
Champion. However, Rob Van Dam says that winning a gimmicky championship belt
was not what he imagined when he challenged for the belt. Rob Van Dam throws
the belt down and says that he refuses to recognize the WWE Championship or to
wrestle for the WWE again. Paul Heyman walks down to the ring and he is carrying
the Money in the Bank briefcase that Rob Van Dam had been carrying to matches
since winning it at WrestleMania XXII. Paul Heyman gets into the ring and talks
about how the pay per view is called One Night Stand. They said last year it
would be ECW's last stand, but then again, here is ECW again, having another
one night stand. Paul Heyman makes it known that ECW is back and its first world
champion is none other than Rob Van Dam! Paul Heyman opens the briefcase to
reveal the ECW World Heavyweight Championship belt and awards it to Rob Van Dam!

The ECW crowd was in for a surprise even bigger than just went down with the
WWE Championship being thrown down as Rhino made his return to the promotion!
As Rob Van Dam was celebrating the official return of ECW and being given the
ECW World Heavyweight Title, Rhino ran into the ring and surprised Rob Van Dam
with the Gore! Paul Heyman left the ring and cursed Rhino for ruining the
moment! Rhino looked down at Rob Van Dam and at the ECW World Heavyweight Title
on the mat beside him. Rhino picked the title belt off the mat and held it high
in the air while shouting about being the true ECW World Heavyweight Champion.

I'm excited to see you try your hand at the new ECW "brand".

Al Snow has actually wrestled a bit on the independent circuit, most notably in the British promotion 1PW where he teamed up with the Blue Meanie in a feud with Southern Comfort (Chris Hamrick & Tracey Smothers).

Left meniscus? Did you edit that, or has there been an update on the various injuries available?

I think it was a well-built card, with a conclusion that I hope is repeated by the real One Night Stand (though I doubt Rhino will show up). If you are to continue the ECW brand, I hope you will try and make some new stars as well. Let's face it, the ECW brand isn't going to survive for long with only the old wrestlers, they need to be there in the beginning to get younger wrestlers over.

I'll be paying attention.

Snabbit888Posted on 05/19/06 at 10:03:01

I don't know if that one is a new one, but I know there were several new injuries added with the last build.  Ones I know for sure that were added are concussion and torn ACL.

Yeah I realize Al Snow has been involved in the independents. I was likely acting like he had been out of wrestling because I figured marks would have no idea about that.

As for Rhino, that was basically me predicting that he'll either be let go out of his contract before July or that the WWE will just buy out his contract. The way Rhino has been used recently by TNA isn't exactly a desirable way to want a contract extension. Mostly wishful thinking, but it allows for some continuity from when Rhino was the last ECW World and TV Champion.

As for new stars in ECW? That's definitely the purpose of adding the ECW brand to what I am doing with Smackdown! Wrestling. If I just continue with the older ECW stars, what's the point. I'm sure C.M. Punk will be making his debut soon in ECW. However, I think the first few months of the ECW relaunch will focus on wrestlers like Sabu, Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, which will allow the new ECW stars to get over eventually.

I wonder since I added ECW to what I am already doing with Smackdown! Wrestling, if I should also add in the RAW brand?

Also, I have no idea what a meniscus is, so I assume that was added in the last build. All I know is if you tear it, it probably hurts!
Snabbit888Posted on 05/19/06 at 10:16:34

The meniscus is a ligament in the knee.

Be careful to not put too much workload on yourself, running two brands is stressful enough, not to speak of three brands. I ran both Raw and Smackdown for a year, but I was only able to do so because I was unemployed and was part-time studying. Once work or proper school takes over, one circuit is more than enough for me.

You could, alternatively, try to find someone willing to do the RAW brand, then you could work together at cards such as Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble.

Actually, since Vince McMahon is selling the Smackdown! brand, there won't be any more joint pay per views. So if someone did want to run the RAW brand, they wouldn't need my input for the Smackdown! brand.

If anyone wants to run the RAW brand based off my circuit's history, they can. The best thing to do, though, is to read my WrestleMania XXII results and notice some differences from the real WWE storylines. Otherwise, it might seem strange if they are pushing a face John Cena when in my WWE/Smackdown! Wrestling he is a major heel.

So it might be easier if I just run that brand. It'd be easier if the TNM-UV plugin was completed so I could just have that plugin run the RAW brand.
Rick GarrardPosted on 05/20/06 at 07:26:36

How can it technically be "one night stand 2", when it would be more properly called "booty call: the return visit"?
JustinPosted on 05/20/06 at 12:22:16

I think "Sloppy Seconds" sounds better
