WWE Smackdown!
Date: May 19, 2006
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Booker T and Ken Kennedy defeated Bobby Lashley and Chris Benoit when
Mr. Kennedy made Benoit submit to a cravate in 0:08:52.
Rating: ** 3/4

This match featured the wrestling return of Mr. Kennedy to Smackdown! It was
quite the return as well. This match featured the opponents in WWE MAYhem
matches wrestling in a preview of what we might see at the pay per view. This
match could've gone either way but it was Mr. Kennedy who surprised everyone by
putting Chris Benoit in a submission hold known as the cravate. With Bobby
Lashley too concerned with fighting against Booker T on the outside of the
ring, and Chris Benoit in the middle of the ring, he surprisingly submitted to
the hold.

After the match, Mr. Kennedy did his ring announcing but failed to realize that
Chris Benoit had gotten back up to his feet and was behind him. Chris Benoit
surprised Mr. Kennedy by putting him in the Crippler Crossface! Mr. Kennedy
immediately began tapping out and had it not been for the WWE officials that
ran down to the ring to separate the two wrestlers, Mr. Kennedy could've been
injured again. These two will have another opportunity to wrestle each other at
WWE MAYhem.

The Great Khali pinned Scotty 2 Hotty with the Giant Choke Slam in 0:01:16.
Rating: *

The Great Khali, a week after making an impact against the World Heavyweight
Champion Kurt Angle, continued to win. This time it was against Scotty 2 Hotty,
and despite being a veteran, couldn't provide much of a challenge to The Great
Khali.

Interview:
Smackdown! General Manager Teddy Long brings in The Mexicools and Jamie Noble
and Kid Kash into his office. He tells them that WWE MAYhem, each team will be
able to show their national pride in a Flag Match. In one corner will fly the
United States flag while in the other the Mexican flag will also fly. The team
that can capture their country's flag will be declared the winners! Jamie Noble
says he wants to add a stipulation to the match. If The Mexicools should lose,
he and Kid Kash want them deported from Smackdown! Teddy Long is surprisingly
fine with that and The Mexicools start saying something in spanish to Teddy
Long. He interupts them by saying that the stipulation won't only apply to The
Mexicools. If Jamie Noble and Kid Kash fail to get their flag, they will be
"deported" from Smackdown!

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Tatanka with the Clothesline From Hell in 0:08:44.
Rating: * 1/4
(John Bradshaw Layfield retained the United States Heavyweight Title.)
[Jillian Hall interfered against Tatanka.]

JBL retained his United States Heavyweight Championship against a worthy
contender in Tatanka. Tatanka had been on a winning streak entering this match,
but to his credit, JBL wasn't phased by it and simply ended the winning streak
by hitting the Clothesline from Hell and getting the pin. JBL enters WWE MAYhem
without an opponent to challenge him, but more importantly, he still has the
United States Heavyweight Championship.

The Hooliganz (Paul London and Brian Kendrick), Kurt Angle, Chavo Guerrero and
Rey Mysterio defeated Pretty Cool (Carlito and Chris Masters), MNM (Joey Mercury
and Johnny Nitro) and Randy Orton when Mysterio pinned Carlito with the
West Coast Pop in 0:23:18.
Rating: ***
[Melina interfered against Rey Mysterio.]

Another preview of WWE MAYhem here but in a 10 man tag team match. Rey Mysterio
finally was able to get a pinfall victory after weeks of losing since
WrestleMania XXII.

As the tag teams continued to fight each other, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton were
fighting through the crowd. They brawled back through the crowd and back over
the barricade on the outside of the ring. Randy Orton went for the RKO but Kurt
Angle pushed out of it and Randy Orton hit the ringpost. From there, Kurt Angle
applied the Ankle Lock to Randy Orton! Once again, Kurt Angle let go of the
hold much sooner than he probably will at WWE MAYhem.

Card rating: **

I think you're missing a prime opportunity for Tatanka to weight in on JBL's anti-illegal immigrant position. ;)

But seeing how you'll lose either the Mexicools or Noble/Kash, maybe you're winding down the feud. Unless, of course, the Mexicools lose, then sneak back into Smackdown.   ;D

Kennedy makes Benoit submit.. a big win for Kennedy!

Nice stipulation for the Flag Match, a match we don't see a lot of these days.

I think you're building up Khali in a good way, though I look forward to who you'll have him feud with.

No JBL at MAYhem?

He's too busy trying to get into the Lakota Tribe I think. :-(

And thanks about The Great Khali comment. I kind of wish now that I had not brought him in, but I was trying to be realistic and carry over some of the current Smackdown! plans. It's just that what do you do with the big guy once he's had his run through the undercard? There is no Undertaker as he's been traded to RAW. As for who he will be feuding with, watch (or read) WWE MAYhem.

And does anyone know what a cravate is?

LoL...Then the export of Mr. Kennedy I have has a unique submission hold for him. He used a cravate submission against Chris Benoit in this week's card in a tag team match. Not sure if its a bad export or a submission hold that has another more recognized name.

Snabbit888Posted on 05/09/06 at 21:01:12

It is a legit submission hold.  I know Chris Hero uses forms of it as well.
rey619Posted on 05/09/06 at 22:31:02

Chris Hero is the master of cravate. He even has a cravate suplex. The name derives from the technique of how to tie a necktie. I'm really lousy at explaning moves though.
Psymin1Posted on 05/10/06 at 06:23:04

lol, sorry...I didn't relize what you were asking.  But where did my post go?
