WWE Smackdown!
Date: April 14, 2006
Location: Green Bay, WI

Interview:
Randy Orton opens Smackdown! by bragging about last week's victory over Rey
Mysterio in a number one contender's match to the World Heavyweight Title.
Randy Orton says that now since he has proven he is the undisputed number one
contender and future World Heavyweight Champion, he wants to take advantage of
the opportunity by requesting a title match tonight! Smackdown! General Manager
Teddy Long walks out and says that indeed Randy Orton is the number one
contender, but that he cannot just demand a title match. Randy Orton will get
his title match, but at MAYhem. But don't get disappointed Green Bay because
Kurt Angle will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship tonight. That
challenger is someone that despite losing last week still deserves a straight
up, one on one match against Kurt Angle. This challenger is none other than Rey
Mysterio!

Randy Orton is beside himself in anger in the ring and says that the match
should've gone to him. However, Randy Orton calms himself down and rationalizes
that since he defeated Rey Mysterio last week and since he is getting a
guaranteed title shot at MAYhem, maybe he'll be rooting for the underdog Rey
Mysterio. Teddy Long warns Randy Orton to not interfere in the main event
because if he does against either Kurt Angle or Rey Mysterio, he will be
suspended and his guaranteed title shot will be taken away from him.

Pretty Cool (Carlito and Chris Masters) defeated Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki when
Carlito pinned Funaki with the Modified Swinging Neckbreaker in 0:05:04.
Rating: ** 1/2

To solidify their standing as a tag team, Carlito and Chris Masters have
decided to name their partnership as Pretty Cool. Their first match on
Smackdown! as a tag team was indeed pretty cool, if not damn good. Funaki and
Scotty 2 Hotty were clearly overmatched from the start. The team of Funaki and
Scotty 2 Hotty did manage to get one instance of offense in against Pretty Cool
as Scotty 2 Hotty was about to hit his trademarked Worm. However, as Scotty was
about to hit the Worm, Carlito showed everyone he was playing possum and
punched Scotty 2 Hotty directly in the face. From there, Pretty Cool would
control the match and Carlito would get the pinfall victory after hitting
Funaki with a Modified Swinging Neckbreaker.

Interview:
After the match, Carlito and Chris Masters put themselves over as champions and
that Smackdown! should be thankful for their prescence. While they have no
problem with MNM, it is only a matter of time before Pretty Cool are the World
Tag Team Champions at some point. As far as they are concerned, MNM are the
only tag team on Smackdown! that could provide them some competition. As
Carlito and Chris Masters keep putting themselves over, Brian Kendrick and Paul
London jump over the barricade and into the ring. They surprise Pretty Cool
with Double Dropkicks that knock them out of the ring! Paul London gets on the
microphone and says that The Hooliganz want Pretty Cool in the ring now that
they are face to face. Carlito and Chris Masters discuss the challenge, but
wave The Hooliganz off and start walking to the back. Pretty Cool shouldn't
have turned their backs again to The Hooliganz because as soon as they did
Brian Kendrick springboarded off Paul London and hit a plancha to them on the
outside of the ring! Brian Kendrick and Paul London celebrate but quickly run
off and over the barricade again before Carlito and Chris Masters can give
chase.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned Chris Benoit with the Clothesline From Hell in
0:27:44.
Rating: *** 1/2
(John Bradshaw Layfield won the United States Heavyweight Title.)

Last week, Jillian was very close to being fired by JBL for her inadvertent
interference that cost JBL his match against Chris Benoit at WrestleMania XXII.
Thanks to some negotiating by Jillian, she was able to secure one more match
against Chris Benoit for the United States Heavyweight Title. The catch was
that if JBL could not defeat Chris Benoit, he would be have to leave Smackdown!
Jillian promised JBL she would come up with a plan to basically guarantee a
victory tonight. Apparently, her guarantees can be believed. Her insurance
policy would come into play near the end of the match. The match itself was a
very solid, back and forth contest that had a lot on the line for both
wrestlers. This match had its moments of being a brawl, JBL's strength, to a
solid, technical match, Chris Benoit's speciality. Credit JBL for being to
adapt to either style of wrestling as well. JBL, however, did make one mistake.
He went for the Clothesline for Hell, but probably went for it too early. Chris
Benoit ducked out of the attempted clothesline and locked in the Crippler
Crossface. Amazingly, JBL was able to get to the ropes in over a minute to
break the hold. Benoit waited for JBL to stagger back up and he was met with a
trio of German Suplexes. After the last one, Benoit signalled for the Flying
Headbutt. A worried Jillian Hall waved to the back, an apparent signal to
whoever she was waving to.

As Chris Benoit climbed to the top turnbuckle, the Smackdown! fans heard the
familiar "Miiiiiiiiiiiister Kennedy...Kennedy" and the man himself, Mr. Kennedy
walked down the aisle and pointing to Chris Benoit. Chris Benoit got down from
the turnbuckle and confronted Mr. Kennedy on the ring apron. Mr. Kennedy
received a hard slap to the face that knocked him off the ring apron to the
mat. Meanwhile, JBL had gotten back to his feet and bounced off the ropes. When
Chris Benoit turned around he was surprised with a Clothesline from Hell. JBL
made the cover and got the three count and became the new United States
Heavyweight Champion! Mr. Kennedy was Jillian's insurance policy tonight and he
paid off bigtime in his role. Mr. Kennedy walked off smiling as JBL and Jillian
celebrated JBL's United States Heavyweight Championship victory over Chris
Benoit.

Interview:
Backstage, The Mexicools go to their Juan Deeres and find out that they have
been vandalized! Various graffiti has been sprayed onto the Juan Deeres and one
statement reads: "Go back to Mexico", another reads: "Illegals not wanted!"
Psicosis and Super Crazy survey the damage when they are surprised by a sneak
attack from Jamie Noble and Kid Kash! Jamie Noble slams Psicosis into one of
the Juan Deeres while Kid Kash finished the surprise beatdown with a DDT onto
the concrete floor! WWE officials immediately separate Kid Kash and Jamie Noble
from The Mexicools.

Interview:
In the ring, Daivari introduces the man that destroyed The Undertaker last week
as The Great Khali! Daivari claims that a trade didn't send The Undertaker away
from Smackdown! It was The Great Khali's sheer size and power advantage over
The Undertaker that did. The Undertaker was afraid of The Great Khali because
when he looked into the eyes of The Great Khali he knew his time as the Phenom
were coming to a close. The Great Khali is THE new Phenom and soon the entire
Smackdown! roster will come to realize that no one can stop The Great Khali.

[King of the Ring Opening Round Match]:
Paul Burchill pinned William Regal after a standing moonsault in 0:06:56.
Rating: ** 3/4

William Regal has had a hard time finding any success against his former
protege Paul Burchill. Ever since Paul Burchill broke away from William Regal's
tutelage and embraced his Pirate roots, he has been undefeated. That undefeated
streak continued tonight and it was a very important victory as this was an
opening round match in the prestigeous King of the Ring tournament. Paul
Burchill defeated William Regal with another innovative move, this time it was
a standing moonsault.

Interview:
Rey Mysterio is being interviewed by Josh Matthews about the opportunity to
wrestle for the World Heavyweight Championship against Kurt Angle tonight when
Chavo Guerrero walks up to the interview area. Rey Mysterio looks pleasantly
surprised and asks Chavo what he is doing here on Smackdown! Chavo replies that
he is here tonight not only to cheer on the next World Heavyweight Champion,
Rey Mysterio, but that he was apart of the trade that sent The Undertaker to
RAW! Rey Mysterio hugs Chavo and says that is great news. Chavo tells Rey to
win tonight's match and the World Heavyweight Championship for Eddie Guerrero.
Chavo walks away and Rey Mysterio tells Josh Matthews that it won't be easy,
but tonight he will win the championship in honor of Eddie Guerrero.

Kurt Angle made Rey Mysterio submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:18:39.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Kurt Angle retained the World Heavyweight Title.)

Surprise, surprise. Yet another great wrestling match involving either Rey
Mysterio, Kurt Angle, and Randy Orton, all participants from the WrestleMania
classic Triple Threat Match. This match, though, was a one on one contest
between Rey Mysterio and the World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle. Randy
Orton watched this match from the announcers table and provided color
commentary, much like Kurt Angle did last week. However, he was unable to
interfere, even if he wanted to because of Teddy Long's warning about
suspending him and taking away his guaranteed title shot at MAYhem. Again, like
last week, Rey Mysterio provided great competition and had many near falls
where he was perhaps a second away from becoming the new World Heavyweight
Champion. Kurt Angle proved once again that he is one of the greatest wrestling
champions in quite some time. It seemed like for every series of offensive
moves Rey Mysterio had, Kurt Angle was able to come right back and take the
momentum back and slow the match down with his submission holds.

It looked like Rey Mysterio was very close to winning the title for the first
time near the end of this match. Rey Mysterio hit flying headscissors on Kurt
Angle. But instead of dropkicking him into the ropes to attempt the 619, he
decided to try a bulldog attempt. This move backfired as Kurt Angle countered
the move with a back suplex. Immediately, Kurt Angle took advantage and applied
the Ankle Lock to Rey Mysterio. With the hold applied in the center of the ring,
Rey Mysterio had no choice but to submit after ten seconds.

After the match, Kurt Angle spotted Randy Orton at the announcers table and
pointed at him and yelled that he's next. Randy Orton, arrogant as he is, made
a motion around his waist that the World Heavyweight Title is going to be
around his waist in the not so distant future.

Hmm.. Undertaker traded to RAW... wonder who the Great Khali will feud with now.

Pretty Cool will be a great boon to the tag-team division. It's pretty much killed off anyway on Raw. I wonder if Masters and Carlito will have as much communication problems now as they used to.

Burchill is on his way to become a... PIRATE king!

Mr Kennedy returns on a Green Bay show, how appropriate  ;D  A Benoit/Kennedy program should be sweet.

Keep it up!
