RoH Chicago Spectacular (Night 1)

SporadicoPosted on 11/29/06 at 06:32:40

HEY! This is Biz 2.0 reporting on this weekend's Ring of Honor:
shows in Chicago and my gawd... were they something. First
off we had Chicago Spectacular Night 1 in Chicago Ridge IL.
----------------------------
Jerry Lynn made Chavo Guerrero Jr. submit to a Gory Special in
(0:08:22 ; ** 1/2)

Match Notes- Jerry Lynn is getting back into the ring and made
an impact tonight. Chavo got a good pop from the crowd, but
started to get hated later on in the match. Not because he was
playing to the crowd... but because the match sucked.
----------------------------

Masahiro Chono made Davey Richards submit to Teioh Lock:
(0:13:56 ; **** 1/2)

Match Notes- DEFINATLY my choice of Match of the Night. Davey Richards
is proving, month after month, that he deserves respect from wrestling
fans around the world. Very, VERY stiff match which resulted in
Chono getting a broken nose after a roundhouse kick from Davey. Clean
finish with no cheating, and the crowd was really behind this one.
Chono is making an impression here in RoH. Personally... I hope he
doesn't leave anytime soon.
----------------------------

The Briscoe Bros. defeated The Kings of Wrestling :
when M. Briscoe pinned Hero with the Cutthroat Suplex
(The Briscoe Brothers retained the RoH Tag Team Titles.)
(0:16:33 ; **** 1/4)

Match Notes- The Kings of Wrestling were booed into the building,
as well as out of the building. Eventhough there is no more CZW,
RoH fans still hate the s*** out of the KoW. They came down to
"We Will Rock You"... I'm guessing because they aren't the champions.
It was very convincing that KoW were actually going to take the titles
home with them tonight... but Mark Briscoe caught Hero by surprise
while Jay and Claudio were brawling on the outside of the ring.
Very entertaining match... mainly because they are both heels and
they both got heat from the crowd. If it wasn't for the Richards/Chono
match, this would definatly have been the MOTN. Make sure to catch this
one on DVD.
----------------------------

Nigel McGuinness defeated Chris Jericho and Doug Williams::
x Jericho beat D. Williams via the Walls Of Jericho in 0:09:28
x N. McGuinness beat Jericho via the Thames Barrier in 0:22:27
(Nigel McGuinness retained the RoH Pure Title.)
(0:22:27 ; *** 3/4)

Match Notes- I expected to see Jericho/McGuinness face off again, but
seeing Doug Williams in this one was a treat. Eventhough he was
eliminated first, he delivered some stiff suplexes and slams to
Jericho to remind him that he wasn't in WWE anymore. Those suplexes
took their toll on Jericho for the rest of the match, as he was holding
onto his neck during the remainder of the match. Once again...
very entertaining ending to the match. I hope to see these two
face off one more time.
----------------------------

After the 3-Way Dance... Bryan Danielson came down to the ring and:
asked for a microphone. I didn't write down what he said
because I packed my notes up, but I did manage to find a video
on a forum.

Bryan Danielson- I was stripped of my title belt. The greatest
RoH Champion to ever live, to ever wrestle, and to ever grace
all of your presence was never propperly beaten for his title belt.
You see, at "Night of the Champions 2006" I wasn't ready.
I had no warning of the match. I had to go against 3 of the world's
best wrestlers with no training? Try and tell me that that is fair.
So I'm out here tonight to call out one person, and one person only.
HOMICIDE. Get your ass out here and come face to face with me and
accept my challenge. (Danielson waits for a bit, and Samoa Joe's
music hits and Joe comes down to the ring.) Whoa whoa whoa. Joe,
you go to the back. I want nothing from you, because you don't have
what I want.

Samoa Joe- Oh, but I have a good reason to be out here. I had a scheduled
cage match with you on before this whole roster shake up happened.

Danielson- Yeah, but I don't have the title anymore. I'll deal with you
as soon as I get my title back. For now, shut your mouth.

Samoa Joe- You think I wanted the title this whole time? I just wanted
to kick your ass! (Joe spears Danielson and starts leashing out a fury
of stiff punches. It takes a bit for officials to come down to the ring
and spilit them up, but they finally did after about... a minute. This
is all the video on the forums shows. So sorry if I missed anything.
(From what I read I didn't.)
=======================
OVERALL SHOW THOUGHTS- This was okay for a "Night 1" show. I expected
to see a lot more matches... but the four that they put out were
really good. The Joe/Danielson confrentation really added onto the
show too. I'd give the show *** 1/2 out of *****. I hope tomorrow's
show will be better.

I dig the write up style. Glad to see both the Briscoe's and McGuiness retain.

I'm stoked on Chono...I'm pushing for him to take the gold off of Homicide now, Chono for RoH World Champion!

Also, what's with the Teioh Lock? I wouldn't have expected it out of Chono...
SporadicoPosted on 11/29/06 at 06:44:56

The Teioh Lock is just a modified standing butterfly lock.
And yeah, Im kinda diggin' the new style myself. :-)

----------EDIT------------
ah. you said "whats with the"... i read it as "whats the teioh lock". oh well.
